We propose a scheme to implement quantum state transfer in a hybrid circuit quantum electrodynarnics (QED) system which consists of a superconducting charge qubit, a flux qubit, and a transmission line resonator (TLR). It is shown that quantum state transfer between the charge qubit and the flux qubit can be realized by using the TLR as the data bus.

We propose a simple scheme to generate χ-type four-charge entangled states by using SQUID-based charge qubits capacitively coupled to a transmission line resonator (TLR). The coupling between the superconducting qubit and the TLR can be effectively controlled by properly adjusting the control parameters of the charge qubit. The experimental feasibility of our scheme is also shown.

We propose a spectroscopic approach to probe tiny vibrations of a nanomechanical resonator (NAMR), which may reveal classical or quantum behavior depending on the decoherence-inducing environment. Our proposal is based on the detection of the voltage-fluctuation spectrum in a superconducting transmission line resonator (TLR), which is indirectly coupled to the NAMR via a controllable Josephson qubit acting as a quantum transducer. The classical (quantum mechanical) vibrations of the NAMR induce symmetric (asymmetric) Stark shifts of the qubit levels, which can be measured by the voltage fluctuations in the TLR. Thus, the motion of the NAMR, including if it is quantum mechanical or not, could be probed by detecting the voltage-fluctuation spectrum of the TLR.

The spin qubit in quantum dots is one of the leading platforms for quantum computation.A crucial requirement for scalable quantum information processing is the high efficient measurement. Here we analyze the measurement process of a quantum-dot spin qubit coupled to a superconducting transmission line resonator.Especially, the phase shift of the resonator is sensitive to the spin states and the gate operations. The response of the resonator can be used to measure the spin qubit efficiently, which can be extend to read out the multiple spin qubits in a scalable solid-state quantum processor.

We propose a theoretical scheme to generate a controllable and switchable coupling between two double-quantum-dot (DQD) spin qubits by using a transmission line resonator (TLR) as a bus system. We study dynamical behaviors of quantum correlations described by entanglement correlation (EC) and discord correlation (DC) between two DQD spin qubits when the two spin qubits and the TLR are initially prepared in X-type quantum states and a coherent state, respectively. We demonstrate that in the EC death regions there exist DC stationary states in which the stable DC amplification or degradation can be generated during the dynamical evolution. It is shown that these DC stationary states can be controlled by initial-state parameters, the coupling, and detuning between qubits and the TLR. We reveal the full synchronization and anti-synchronization phenomena in the EC and DC time evolution, and show that the EC and DC synchronization and anti-synchronization depends on the initial-state parameters of the two DQD spin qubits. It is shown that the initial quantum correlation may be suppressed completely when the evolution time approaches to the infinity in the presence of dissipation. These results shed new light on dynamics of quantum correlations.

We propose a method to achieve coherent coupling between nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers in diamond and superconducting (SC) flux qubits. The resulting coupling can be used to create a coherent interaction between the spin states of distant NV centers mediated by the flux qubit. Furthermore, the magnetic coupling can be used to achieve a coherent transfer of quantum information between the flux qubit and an ensemble of NV centers. This enables a long-term memory for a SC quantum processor and possibly an interface between SC qubits and light.

We investigate theoretically the dynamical behavior of a qubit obtained with the two ground eigenstates of an ultrastrong coupling circuit-QED system consisting of a finite number of Josephson fluxonium atoms inductively coupled to a transmission line resonator. We show a universal set of quantum gates by using multiple transmission line resonators (each resonator represents a single qubit). We discuss the intrinsic "anisotropic" nature of noise sources for fluxonium artificial atoms. Through a master equation treatment with colored noise and many-level dynamics, we prove that, for a general class of anisotropic noise sources, the coherence time of the qubit and the fidelity of the quantum operations can be dramatically improved in an optimal regime of ultrastrong coupling, where the ground state is an entangled photonic "cat" state.

We report the experimental realization of a hybrid quantum circuit combining a superconducting qubit and an ensemble of electronic spins. The qubit, of the transmon type, is coherently coupled to the spin ensemble consisting of nitrogen-vacancy centers in a diamond crystal via a frequency-tunable superconducting resonator acting as a quantum bus. Using this circuit, we prepare a superposition of the qubit states that we store into collective excitations of the spin ensemble and retrieve back into the qubit later on. These results constitute a proof of concept of spin-ensemble based quantum memory for superconducting qubits.

We study numerically the behavior of a qubit coupled to a quantum dissipative driven oscillator (resonator). Above a critical coupling strength the qubit rotations become synchronized with the oscillator phase. In the synchronized regime, at certain parameters, the qubit exhibits tunneling between two orientations with a macroscopic change of the number of photons in the resonator. The lifetimes in these metastable states can be enormously large. The synchronization leads to a drastic change of qubit radiation spectrum with the appearance of narrow lines corresponding to recently observed single artificial-atom lasing [O. Astafiev, Nature (London) 449, 588 (2007)].

We report coherent operation of a singlet-triplet qubit controlled by the spatial arrangement of two confined electrons in an adjacent double quantum dot that is electrostatically coupled to the qubit. This four-dot system is the specific device geometry needed for two-qubit operations of a two-electron spin qubit. We extract the strength of the capacitive coupling between qubit and adjacent double quantum dot and show that the present geometry allows fast conditional gate operation, opening pathways toward implementation of a universal set of gates for singlet-triplet spin qubits.

We theoretically study the quantum nondemolition measurements of a flux qubit coupled to a noisy superconduct-ing quantum interference device (SQUID).The obtained analytical results indicate that the measurement probability is frequency-dependent in a short time scale and has a close relationship with the measurement-induced dephasing.Furthermore, when the detuning between the driven and bare resonator equals the coupling strength,we can obtain the maximum measurement rate that is determined by the character of the noise in the SQUID.Finally,we analysed the mixed effect caused by coupling between the non-diagonal term and the external variable. It is found that the initial information of the qubit is destroyed due to quantum tunneling between the qubit states.

We study the low energy states of finite spin chains with isotropic (Heisenberg) and anisotropic (XY and Ising-like) antiferromagnetic exchange interaction with uniform and nonuniform coupling constants. We show that for an odd number of sites a spin cluster qubit can be defined in terms of the ground state doublet. This qubit is remarkably insensitive to the placement and coupling anisotropy of spins within the cluster. One- and two-qubit quantum gates can be generated by magnetic fields and intercluster exchange, and leakage during quantum gate operation is small. Spin cluster qubits inherit the long decoherence times and short gate operation times of single spins. Control of single spins is hence not necessary for the realization of universal quantum gates.

We investigate a hybrid quantum circuit where ensembles of cold polar molecules serve as long-lived quantum memories and optical interfaces for solid state quantum processors. The quantum memory realized by collective spin states (ensemble qubit) is coupled to a high-Q stripline cavity via microwave Raman processes. We show that, for convenient trap-surface distances of a few microm, strong coupling between the cavity and ensemble qubit can be achieved. We discuss basic quantum information protocols, including a swap from the cavity photon bus to the molecular quantum memory, and a deterministic two qubit gate. Finally, we investigate coherence properties of molecular ensemble quantum bits.

We propose a scheme to achieve switchable coupling between nitrogen-vacancy (N-V) center in diamond and superconducting charge qubit by a quantized nanomechanical resonator (NAMR) as a data bus. This procotol can be used to transfer the quantum state from charge qubit to N-V center. Owing to the N-V center has relatively long decoherence time, the information can be stable stored in it. Finally, we discuss the experimental feasibility of our scheme.

We model an isolated quantum computer as a two-dimensional lattice of qubits (spin halves) with fluctuations in individual qubit energies and residual short-range inter-qubit couplings. In the limit when fluctuations and couplings are small compared to the one-qubit energy spacing, the spectrum has a band structure and we study the quantum computer core (central band) with the highest density of states. Above a critical inter-qubit coupling strength, quantum chaos sets in, leading to quantum ergodicity of eigenstates in an isolated quantum computer. The onset of chaos results in the interaction induced dynamical thermalization and the occupation numbers well described by the Fermi-Dirac distribution. This thermalization destroys the noninteracting qubit structure and sets serious requirements for the quantum computer operability. We present a scheme for implementing robust quantum gates in decoherence-free subspaces (DFSs) with double-dot spin qubits. Through the resonator-assisted interaction, the controllable interqubit couplings can be achieved only by adjusting the qubit transition frequencies. We construct a set of logic gates on the DFS-encoded qubits to eliminate the collective noise effects, and thus the gate fidelities can be enhanced remarkably. This proposal may offer a potential approach to realize the robust quantum computing with spin qubits.

We suggest a scheme to probe critical phenomena at a quantum phase transition (QPT) using the quantum correlation of two photonic modes simultaneously coupled to a critical system. As an experimentally accessible physical implementation, a circuit QED system is formed by a capacitively coupled Josephson junction qubit array interacting with one superconducting transmission line resonator (TLR). It realizes an Ising chain in the transverse field (ICTF) which interacts with the two magnetic modes propagating in the TLR. We demonstrate that in the vicinity of criticality the originally independent fields tend to display photon bunching effects due to their interaction with the ICTF. Thus, the occurrence of the QPT is reflected by the quantum characteristics of the photonic fields.
