We measured the elastic scattering of αα ats = 126 GeV and of αp at s = 89 GeV. For αα, the differential cross section dσ/dt has a diffractive pattern minima at |t| = 0.10 and 0.38 GeV2. At small |t| = 0.05?0.07 GeV2, this cross section behaves like exp[(100 ± 10) t]. Extrapolating a fit to the data to the optical point, we obtained for the total cross section αtot(αα) = 250 ± 50 mb and an integrated elastic cross section σe1(αα) = 45 ± mb. Another method of estimating σtot(αα), based on measuring the interaction rate, yielded 295 ± 40 mb. For αp, dσ/dt has aminimum at |t| = 0.20 GeV2, and for 0.05 < |t| < 0.18 GeV2 behaves like exp[(41 ± 2) t]. Extrapolating this slope to |t| = 0, we found σtot(αp) = 130 ± 20 and σe1(αp) = 20 ± 4mb. Results on pp elastic scattering at s = 63 GeV agree with previous ISR experiments.  相似文献

The πNN vertex function is determined from dσdt for pn → np and pp → nn at 8 GeV/c in the interval 0 < ? t < 0.1 GeV2. A “regularor mass” of 3.5mπ=488 MeV is found, corresponding to an “extension” of 0.40 fm of the πNN vertex. The resulting OPE potential is discussed.  相似文献

New experimental results are presented on proton-proton elastic scattering at centre-of-mass energies s=23 GeV and s=62 GeV. The data are obtained using the Split Field Magnet detector at the CERN Intersecting Storage Rings. The absolute differential cross-sections show an energy-dependent behaviour. The position of the diffraction minimum changes from t=(?1.44±0.02)GeV2 at 23 GeV to (?1.26±0.03)GeV2 at 62 GeV. The cross-section at the second maximum is increasing with s. The connection of these observations with the hypothesis of “geometrical scaling” is discussed.  相似文献

Results are reported of measurements of the momentum spectra of protons emitted at small angles in inelastic reactions at the CERN ISR. The data are for total energies s12 of 23 GeV and 31 GeV. The structure of the peak at low values of the missing mass M (of the system recoiling against the observed proton) is studied. The missing mass distributions have the form (M2)?B(t) where t is the four-momentum transfer squared. B(t) drops from 0.98±0.06 at t=?0.15 GeV2 to 0.20±0.15 at t=?1.65 GeV2. The results are compared with a simple triple-Regge formula.  相似文献

The single diffraction dissociation process pp → (pπ+π?)p has been studied at the CERN ISR at √s = 45 GeV and 0.1 < ?t < 0.6 GeV2. The reaction is dominated by nucleon resonance production: pp → pN (1520) and pp → pN(1688) with cross-sections (0.25 ± 0.08) mb and (0.56 ± 0.19) mb respectively.  相似文献

The differential cross section dσdt′ for the charge-exchange process π+p → π0 (π+p) at 8, 16 and 23 GeV/c is presented for several regions of the π+p effective mass. It is found that the dip at t′ ≈ 0.6 (GeV/c)2 which is observed in the Δ(1236) mass band becomes a less pronounced structure in the higher mass regions. However, while the slope of the dσdt′ distributions in the near-forward direction decreases strongly with increasing π+p mass, there is no evidence that the observed structure moves to higher values of t′ as the π+p mass increases. These results are consistent with a Regge-exchange picture where the position of the dip is determined by the exchanged trajectory, but are inconsistent with a simple geometrical picture.  相似文献

The differential cross-sections for pp → π?π+ in the momentum range 0.8 to 2.4 GeV/c (centre-of-mass energy 2.02 to 2.57 GeV) are analysed in terms of the possible existence of s-channel resonances. The systematics of the dip structures and the s-dependence of dσ/dt are presented.  相似文献

Measurements have been performed on production of particles with mass 1.5 GeV/c2 and charge ? 23 for θlab = 62.5° and s = 53 GeV. At pT = 0.7 GeV/c the relative rate of production of antideuterons to π? is (5 ± 1) × 10?5. The deuteron to antideuteron ratio is 3.7 ± 1.2. No new stable particle has been amongst 0.7 × 108 charged particles entering our detector.  相似文献

Four low-mass “diffractive like” reactions π±p → π±(pπ0) and π±p → π±(nπ+) have been studied at 3.9 GeV/c incident pion momentum. These channels have been studied in the framework of a two-component model and we have proposed a definition of the diffraction dissociation amplitude. The following three features of the data are discussed: (1) an apparent violation of the predictions of isospin invariance for the cross section ratios, (2) the marked anisotropy of the s-channel helicity distributions and (3) the absence of the cross-over effect in the differential cross sections. The predictions of a two-component model previously used to explain the low mass I = 12(Nπ) enhancement [1] and s- and t-channel helicity non-conservation [2] are seen to be in agreement with these observations. Predictions are also made for higher energy incident pions and incident K, p, and p projectiles. These predictions are compared with available data including recent results at Fermilab and ISR energies.  相似文献

The reaction π?p → (pn)ps, where ps is a slow proton, was measured at 12 GeV/c incident momentum with the CERN-OMEGA spectrometer. Both antiproton and proton were identified uniquely by electronics information. We obtained 1844 events with four-momentum Transfer squared in the range 0.13 ? |t| ? 0.33 GeV2 and with invariant masses M(pn) up to 2.5 GeV. The corresponding cross section in this t range is determined to be σ = 4 ± 0.4 μb. Extrapolating the differential cross section over the whole t range assuming dσ/dt ≈ exp(5.3t) we estimate a cross section of σ = 9.3 ± 2.0 μb. Comparison with data on π?p → (pp)ns (where ns is a slow neutron) in the same t range shows that the (pn)psand (pp)ns cross sections have approximately the same magnitude.  相似文献

The differential cross section of the reaction (γp → pφ) has been measured in the t range 0 ? t ? 0.4 GeV2 and for photon energies from 3.0 to 6.7 GeV. In particular for the small t region the measurement accuracy was better than 10%. We obtained for the slope parameter B in an exponential parametrization of the differential cross section dσ/dt = Ae?Bt values of B ? 6 ± 0.5 GeV?2 which are significantly larger than the slopes obtained by most other experiments at higher t values. This indicates a t dependence of B particularly in the small t region.An energy dependence of the optical point (dσ/dt)t=0, observed in our measurements, has been explained as a kinematic effect due to the VDM relation. A fit of our measurements is in excellent agreement with all other published values of (dσ/dt)t=0(γp → φp), this implies that σtot(φp) must be essentially energy independent in this energy range.Spin density matrix elements of the φ have been evaluated and an analysis of the helicity amplitudes has been carried out. This analysis confirmed s-channel helicity conservation. Moments of spherical harmonics of the KK angular decay distribution have been computed for 10 MeV KK mass-bins from threshold to 1.3 GeV. The mass dependence of the normalized moments is generally smooth. Contributing amplitudes have essentially only even moments. The moment 〈Y20〉/〈Y00〉 changes sign above the φ mass.Differential cross sections for the inelastic φ production γp → φX have been evaluated for the first time both with respect to t?tmin and MK. The integrated inelastic cross sections are comparable in size with the elastic ones. The slopes of the differential cross sections dσ/dt appear to become flatter with increasing MX.  相似文献

Inclusive π0 production has been measured at the CERN pp? collider, s=540 GeV, for 90° production angle and in a range of transverse momenta between 1.5 and 4.5 GeV/c. The invariant production cross section is larger than that measured at s= 53 GeV for p-p collisions. The production of μ mesons aand of direct photons is also investigated.  相似文献

We present results on photoproduction of ?0 and ω in the reactions γp→π+π?p and γp→π+π?π0p by tagged photons in the energy ranges 20 to 70 GeV and 20 to 45 GeV, respectively. The production of the ?0 shows dominantly the characteristics of a diffractive process with respect to the Eγ and t dependence of the cross section and the spin density matrix. The ?0 photoproduction yields on average over the photon energy range a total cross section of σ(γp→?0p) = 9.4±0.1 μb with an additional systematic error of ±1 μb, and average slope parameters of the t distribution dσ/dt≈exp(?b|t| + ct2), of b=9.1±0.1 GeV?2 and c = 3.1 ±±0.2 GeV?4. The shape of the ?0 peak in the π+π? invariant spectra shows a skewing similar to that observed at lower energies. The photoproduction of ω is also consistent with a diffractive process and has a cross section of σ(γp→ωp) = 1.2± 0.1 μb with an additional systematic error of ±0.2 μb. The average slope parameters of the t distribution are b=8.3 ± 1.3 GeV?2 and c = 3.4±2.6 GeV?4.  相似文献

The reaction γp →ωp(ω → π+π?π0 and π0 → γ γ) has been studied in ep interactions using the ZEUS detector at photon-proton centre-of-mass energies between 70 and 90GeV and ∣t∣ < 0.6GeV2, where t is the squared four momentum transferred at the proton vertex. The elastic ω photoproduction cross section has been measured to be σγp → ωp = 1.21 ±0.12 ±0.23 μb. The differential cross section dσγp→ωp/d¦t¦ has an exponential shape e?b∣t∣ with a slope b =10.0 ± 1.2 ± 1.3 GeV?2. The angular distributions of the decay pions are consistent with s-channel helicity conservation. When compared to low energy data, the features of ω photoproduction as measured at HERA energies are in agreement with those of a soft diffractive process. Previous measurements of the ρ0 and ? photoproduction cross sections at HERA show a similar behaviour.  相似文献

Results are presented for p → (ΛK+) dissociation in the reactions K?p → ΛK+K? and and π±p → ΛK+π±at 10 and 16 GeV/c. The cross sections for the low-mass ΛK+ enhancement are compatible with the energy dependence σplab?0.3. The t′ spectra or the (ΛK+) threshold enhancement are exponential in shape. Its decay angular distribution reveals neither s-channel nor t-channel helicity conservation. The relative probabilities of the processes pp, p → (Nπ)I=12and p → (ΛK+) dissociation are in the ratios 100 : 10 : 0.2, independent of the nature of the incident particle.  相似文献

We measured the differential cross section for p?p and pp elastic scattering in the momentum-transfer range 0.01 <|t| < 1.0 GeV2 at the CERN Intersecting Storage Rings with center-of-mass energy s = 52.8 GeV. Fitting the differential cross section with an exponential [Aexp (bt)], we found bpp = 13.92 ± 0.59 GeV?2 for |t| < 0.05 GeV2, whilst for |t| > 0.09 GeV2, bpp = 10.68 ± 0.26 GeV?2. Using the optical theorem, we obtained for the total cross section σtot(pp)= 44.86 ± 0.78 mb and, by integrating the differential cross section, we obtained for the total elastic cross section σel(pp) = 7.89 ± 0.28 mb. Calculations of σtot combining elastic-rate and total-rate measurements are also given. All of these measurements were also performed for pp scattering at the same energy, and the results for both reactions are compared.  相似文献

The inclusive production of π± mesons in e+e? annihilation has been measured at c.m. energies of 14, 22 and 34 GeV for pion momenta between 0.3 ans 10 GeV/c. The fraction of pions among the charged hadrons is above 90% at 0.4 GeV/c and decreases to about 50% at high momenta. The scaled cross sections (sβ) dσdx at 14, 22 and 34 GeV as well as the 5.2 GeV data from DASP have a rather similar x dependence. After integration over the x range from 0.2 to 0.6 the cross sections indicate a monotonic decrease with increasing centre-of-mass energy.  相似文献

The results of a wire chamber spectrometer experiment studying K1 (890) production in the reaction K?p→ K?π+n at 13 GeV are presented. Strong forward structure is observed for |t|< m2π in the s-channel density matrix elements and differential cross section. These features are similar to those observed in π?p→?0n data and are characteristics of π exchange. In contrast in the intermediate, |t| ~ 0.2 GeV2, and large momentum transfer regions K1 (890) production is demonstrated by the natural parity ??A2 exchange contribution.  相似文献

New results on a high statistics measurement of pion-nucleon charge exchange scattering at 40 GeV/c, extending in momentum transfer up to ?t = 1.8 (GeV/c)2, are reported and compared with an optical impact parameter model, together with previous data for the reaction π?p → ηn at the same energy. The imaginary part of the pole trajectory b0(s) is determined from the slope of the tangent to the maxima of (?t)12dσdt. The linear increase of Im b0(s) with log s, which has been observed at low energies, continues up to 40 GeV/c.  相似文献
