The cross sections for π±, K±, p, and p production in pp collisions have been measured at transverse momenta from 0.48 up to 2.21 GeV/c at 70 GeV. The data are compared with results obtained at lower and higher proton energies and also with the quantum chromodynamics parton model (QPM) calculations. Common behaviour of the cross sections of the form g(p)?(x) in the energy range above 200 GeV does not take place at lower energies. Qualitatively QPM fits the data and the best agreement is for π+/π? and K+/π+ ratios.  相似文献

The production of noncoplanar hadron pairs in proton-nucleus interactions is studied experimentally for the case where the transverse momenta of product particles are in excess of 1 GeV/c. The values obtained for the exponent in the A dependence of the cross section for the production of noncoplanar hadron pairs are substantially greater than those for coplanar pairs. This nuclear-mass-number dependence for the production of hadron pairs can be explained by the contribution of multiparton interactions in proton-nucleus collisions.  相似文献

A search for dimuons produced in a spark chamber experiment in neutrino and antineutrino beams of the Serpukhov accelerator is reported. The clear dimuon signal has been observed in vN interactions. Rv = N(2ω)/N(1ω)? (6.2 ± 1.7) × 10?3 in the energy interval 7.5 ÷ 30 GeV. From antineutrino data we conclude that in the same energy range Rv? 1.1. × 10?2 (90% C.L.).  相似文献

A calculation of sources of inclusive photons in ultrarelativistic O-W and Pb-Pb collisions at 200 GeV/u is presented. The production of thermal photons in a quark-gluon plasma, a deconfined state of nuclear matter at high energy density, is addressed. In events with a large amount of energy deposited in the target the thermal contribution to the inclusive spectrum is found to be ~5%, quadratically increasing with particle multiplicity, but only weakly dependent on the size of the projectile nucleus. These photons are predominantly produced in a coexistence phase of plasma and hadronic matter. Hadronic bremsstrahlung is investigated including the spatial and temporal coherence due to the large space-time extension of heavy-ion systems. For small photon momenta there is a coherent signal in the fragmentation regions proportional to the squared number of participant protons.  相似文献

Corrections to the lowest order cross-section for e+e?μ+μ? are calculated. These corrections arise from higher order quantum electrodynamics, where attention is paid to include the effects of hard photons, exponentiation and hadronic terms, and from the lowest order weak interactions. It is found, that for the qed-corrections the deviation from the so-called soft photon approximation may be important for the charge symmetric part, while it is less important for the antisymmetric part. As an example, the corrected charge asymmetry is given in two different weak interaction models.  相似文献

Multiplicities and spectra of strange particles ( andK produced in central32S+S,32S+Ag and32S+Au collisions at 200 GeV per nucleon are presented and compared with data on strange particle production in protonnucleus and nucleon-nucleon interactions. It is shown that strangeness production in32S+Ag collisions is enhanced by a factor of two, similar to that found previously in central32S+S collisions.  相似文献

Production of Lambda and Antilambda hyperons was measured in central Pb-Pb collisions at 40, 80, and 158A GeV beam energy on a fixed target. Transverse mass spectra and rapidity distributions are given for all three energies. The Lambda/pi ratio at midrapidity and in full phase space shows a pronounced maximum between the highest BNL Alternating Gradient Synchrotron and 40A GeV CERN Super Proton Synchrotron energies, whereas the Lambda/pi ratio exhibits a monotonic increase.  相似文献

We calculate the inclusive momentum distribution of particles produced in a hadron-nucleus (hA) collision. The exchange of colour between the projectile and target nucleons leads to the formation of colour strings which are assumed to fragment like strings formed in deep inelastic lepton-nucleon scattering. Making a few basic hypotheses we consistently and parameterfree describe the projectile fragmentation region in collisions of the typehAh′X withh=p, π+ andh′=p, π+, π? at 100 GeV incident energy.  相似文献

The CERES/NA45 experiment at the CERN SPS has previously measurede + e - pair production in 160 A.GeV Pb-Au collisions. In the mass regionm > 02 GeV/c2, an enhancement of 2.7±04(stat.)±0.5(syst.) compared to the expectation from known hadronic decay sources was observed. In the 40 A.GeV data taken in 1999, an enhancement is again found; a preliminary analysis gives an even larger value of 50 ±13(stat.). The results are compared to theoretical model calculations based on π+π- annihilation with a modified ρ-propagator; they may be related to chiral symmetry restoration.  相似文献

In a joint experiment the TAPS and CERES collaborations have studied the production of the neutral mesons and in 450 GeV p-Be and p-Au collisions at the CERN SPS. The mesons were identified by their , , and decay modes. The cross sections were measured down to very low ( 20 MeV/c) near mid-rapidity (). The and cross sections are smaller than expected from extrapolations of earlier data to low . Integrated over all , the ratios and / are lower by about 25% compared to previously published values. The reduction may be attributed to the large number of low pions from decays of heavier mesons. In addition, we have studied the dependence of neutral meson production on the mass of the nuclear target and find it in good agreement with previous measurements of charged mesons. The NA60 experiment studies muon pair production at the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron. In this Letter we report on a precision measurement of J/psi in In-In collisions. We have studied the J/psi centrality distribution, and we have compared it with the one expected if absorption in cold nuclear matter were the only active suppression mechanism. For collisions involving more than approximately 80 participant nucleons, we find that an extra suppression is present. This result is in qualitative agreement with previous Pb-Pb measurements by the NA50 experiment, but no theoretical explanation is presently able to coherently describe both results.  相似文献
