The predominant deformation mode during material failure is shear. In this paper, a crystal plasticity scheme for explicit time integration codes is developed based on a forward Euler algorithm. The numerical model is incorporated in the UMAT subroutine for implementing rate-dependent crystal plasticity model in LS-DYNA/Explicit. The sheet is modeled as a face centered cubic (FCC) polycrystalline aggregate, and a finite element analysis based on rate-dependent crystal plasticity is implemented to analyze the effects of three different strain paths consisting predominantly of shear. Finite element meshes containing texture data are created with solid elements. The material model can incorporate information obtained from electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) and apply crystal orientation to each element as well as account for texture evolution. Single elements or multiple elements are used to represent each grain within a microstructure. The three dimensional (3D) polycrystalline microstructure of the aluminum alloy AA5754 is modeled and subjected to three different strain rates for each strain path. The effects of strain paths, strain rates and thermal softening on the formation of localized deformation are investigated. Simulations show that strain path is the most dominant factor in localized deformation and texture evolution.  相似文献

This paper presents the first application of peridynamics theory for crystal plasticity simulations. A state-based theory of peridynamics is used (Silling et al., 2007) where the forces in the bonds between particles are computed from stress tensors obtained from crystal plasticity. The stress tensor at a particle, in turn, is computed from strains calculated by tracking the motion of surrounding particles. We have developed a quasi-static implementation of the peridynamics theory. The code employs an implicit iterative solution procedure similar to a non-linear finite element implementation. Peridynamics results are compared with crystal plasticity finite element (CPFE) analysis for the problem of plane strain compression of a planar polycrystal. The stress, strain field distribution and the texture formation predicted by CPFE and peridynamics were found to compare well. One particular feature of peridynamics is its ability to model fine shear bands that occur naturally in deforming polycrystalline aggregates. Peridynamics simulations are used to study the origin and evolution of these shear bands as a function of strain and slip geometry.  相似文献

Different modeling strategies are tested for the prediction of texture development and microscopic strain heterogeneity in cold-rolled ULC steel and in multiphase steel under uniaxial tension. The polycrystalline aggregate is represented by a finite element mesh that is loaded under periodic boundary conditions. Grains are shaped as cubes or as truncated octahedrons, defining three levels of mesh refinement. Simulations rely on a simplified implementation of crystal plasticity, in which elastic strains are considered infinitesimal. The constitutive law is integrated fully implicitly in a reference frame bounded to the crystal lattice. Accuracy of the time-integration procedure is assessed by referring to some predictions of the crystal plasticity algorithm developed by Kalidindi et al. [Crystallographic texture evolution in bulk deformation processing of FCC metals. J. Mech. Phys. Solid 40 (1992) 537–569]. Then, results of the micro–macro modeling are compared to experimental data. It is found that the simulations with truncated octahedral grains yield improved predictions compared to those with cuboidal grains.  相似文献

Plastic flow localization into a narrow band is investigated for a rate-independent polycrystalline sheet. Strain localization is considered to initiate at a point of bifurcation from the homogeneous deformation state or to result from the growth of a preexisting imperfection. Bifurcation analysis based on the rate-independent crystal plasticity model is found to give limit strains at a realistic strain level in the biaxial-stretching range. Limit strains predicted by the imperfection analysis are lower than those for bifurcation analysis and tend to approach those strain levels with decreasing amount of initial imperfection. Then, the bifurcation analysis is applied to the simulation of the forming limit for strongly textured sheets. The bifurcation analysis reveals the same trend of a texture dependence of limit strains as that for the imperfection analysis employing a rate-dependent model reported in the literature.  相似文献

The mechanical response of polycrystalline metals is significantly affected by the behaviour of grain boundaries, in particular when these interfaces constitute a relatively large fraction of the material volume. One of the current challenges in the modelling of grain boundaries at a continuum (polycrystalline) scale is the incorporation of the many different interaction mechanisms between dislocations and grain boundaries, as identified from fine-scale experiments and simulations. In this paper, the objective is to develop a model that accounts for the redistribution of the defects along the grain boundary in the context of gradient crystal plasticity. The proposed model incorporates the nonlocal relaxation of the grain boundary net defect density. A numerical study on a bicrystal specimen in simple shear is carried out, showing that the spreading of the defect content has a clear influence on the macroscopic response, as well as on the microscopic fields. This work provides a basis that enables a more thorough analysis of the plasticity of polycrystalline metals at the continuum level, where the plasticity at grain boundaries matters.  相似文献

We propose a set of models for the post-irradiation deformation response of polycrystalline FCC metals. First, a defect- and dislocation-density based evolution model is developed to capture the features of irradiation-induced hardening as well as intra-granular softening. The proposed hardening model is incorporated within a rate-independent single crystal plasticity model. The result is a non-homogeneous deformation model that accounts for defect absorption on the active slip planes during plastic loading. The macroscopic non-linear constitutive response of the polycrystalline aggregate of the single crystal grains is then obtained using a micro–macro transition scheme, which is realized within a Jacobian-free multiscale method (JFMM). The Jacobian-free approach circumvents explicit computation of the tangent matrix at the macroscale by using a Newton–Krylov process. This has a major advantage in terms of storage requirements and computational cost over existing approaches based on homogenized material coefficients in which explicit Jacobian computation is required at every Newton step. The mechanical response of neutron-irradiated single and polycrystalline OFHC copper is studied and it is shown to capture experimentally observed grain-level phenomena.  相似文献

A large strain elastic-viscoplastic self-consistent (EVPSC) model for polycrystalline materials is developed. At single crystal level, both the rate sensitive slip and twinning are included as the plastic deformation mechanisms, while elastic anisotropy is accounted for in the elastic moduli. The transition from single crystal plasticity to polycrystal plasticity is based on a completely self-consistent approach. It is shown that the differences in the predicted stress-strain curves and texture evolutions based on the EVPSC and the viscoplastic self-consistent (VPSC) model proposed by Lebensohn and Tomé (1993) are negligible at large strains for monotonic loadings. For the deformations involving unloading and strain path changes, the EVPSC predicts a smooth elasto-plastic transition, while the VPSC model gives a discontinuous response due to lack of elastic deformation. It is also demonstrated that the EVPSC model can capture some important experimental features which cannot be simulated by using the VPSC model.  相似文献

The effect of initial texture on the stored energy is investigated. Uniaxially loaded polycrystalline materials with initial textures based on the Goss component and the Brass component are analyzed. For reference purposes a single crystal and an initial isotropic crystal orientation distribution are also analyzed. Special attention is directed at the thermomechanical behavior of polycrystalline material during cyclic loading, the temperature evolution and change in stored energy are studied. Cyclic loading of Cook’s membrane is also considered. The simulations are done using a rate-dependent crystal plasticity model for large deformations formulated within a thermodynamic framework. It is shown that incorporation of the latent-hardening into the Helmholtz free energy function and use of evolution laws of appropriate form allows a thermodynamically consistent heat generation due to plastic work.  相似文献

This paper describes the application of a coupled crystal plasticity based microstructural model with an anisotropic yield criterion to compute a 3D yield surface of a textured aluminum sheet (continuous cast AA5754 aluminum sheet). Both the in-plane and out-of-plane deformation characteristics of the sheet material have been generated from the measured initial texture and the uniaxial tensile curve along the rolling direction of the sheet by employing a rate-dependent crystal plasticity model. It is shown that the stress–strain curves and R-value distribution in all orientations of the sheet surface can be modeled accurately by crystal plasticity if a “finite element per grain” unit cell model is used that accounts for non-uniform deformation as well as grain interactions. In particular, the polycrystal calculation using the Bassani and Wu (1991) single crystal hardening law and experimental electron backscatter data as input has been shown to be accurate enough to substitute experimental data by crystal plasticity data for calibration of macroscopic yield functions. The macroscopic anisotropic yield criterion CPB06ex2 (Plunkett et al., 2008) has been calibrated using the results of the polycrystal calculations and the experimental data from mechanical tests. The coupled model is validated by comparing its predictions with the anisotropy in the experimental yield stress ratio and strain ratios at 15% tensile deformation. The biaxial section of the 3D yield surface calculated directly by crystal plasticity model and that predicted by the phenomenological model calibrated with experimental and crystal plasticity data are also compared. The good agreement shows the strength of the approach. Although in this paper, the Plunkett et al. (2008) yield function is used, the proposed methodology is general and can be applied to any yield function. The results presented here represent a robust demonstration of implementing microscale crystal plasticity simulation with measured texture data and hardening laws in macroscale yield criterion simulations in an accurate manner.  相似文献

The plastic anisotropy of sheet metal is usually caused by preferred orientation of grains, developed by mechanical deformation and thermal treatment. In the present study, a Taylor-like polycrystal model suggested by Asaro and Needleman is applied to investigate the evolution of the anisotropic behavior of a face centered cubic (FCC) polycrystalline metal, which is considered having {111} (110) slip systems, by stretching it along an arbitrary direction after it has undergonea plane-strata compression that rationally simulates the cold rolling process of FCC polycrystalline pure aluminium. By using the Taylor-like polycrystal model, pole figures are obtained to describe the texture development of polycrystalline aggregate after plane-strain compression, and then the plastic anisotropy of polycrystalline aggregate is evaluated by stretching the polycrystalline aggregate in different direction in term of yield stress. According to the results, the contours of longitudinal flow stress in three-dimensional orientation space are given and analyzed. Experiment results similar to the prediction of planar anisotropy can be found inthe literature written by Takahashi et al. that in directly show the correctness of the prediction of non-planar plastic anisotropy by this analysis.

A hierarchical model of a polycrystalline aggregate of rigid viscoplastic grains is formulated, and a robust and efficient computational algorithm for its solution is proposed. The polycrystalline aggregate is modeled as a binary tree. The leaves of the binary tree represent grains, and higher tree nodes represent increasingly larger sub-aggregates of grains. The root of the tree represents the entire polycrystalline aggregate. Velocity and traction continuity are enforced across the interface between the children of each non-leaf node in the binary tree. The hierarchical model explicitly models intergranular interactions but is nevertheless comparable in computational effort to the mean field models of polycrystal plasticity. Simulations of tensile, compressive, torsional, and plane strain deformation of copper lead to predictions in good agreement with experiments, and highlight the interconnection between grain deformations and intergranular constraints. It is inferred from the results that a hybrid mean field/hierarchical model represents a computationally efficient methodology to simulate polycrystal deformation while accounting for intergranular interactions.  相似文献

The phenomenon of earing is investigated in the present study based on the theory of crystal plasticity with the dynamic explicit finite element program developed. Firstly texture analysis is carried out of rolled aluminium alloy Al5052 by means of X-ray technique. Then from the texture coefficients an analytical expression for the orientation distribution function (ODF) is derived making use of the computer algebraic language Mathematica4.0, which makes it easier to discretize the ODF into a series of Eulerian angles representing the distribution of lattices and further the preferred orientation (texture) of crystals of the original sheets. For the polycrystal model, the material is described using crystal plasticity where each material point in grains with each grain modelled as an FCC crystal with 12 distinct slip systems. The modified Taylor theory of crystal plasticity is used and only the initial texture is taken into consideration during large plastic deformation. Numerical simulation of earing has been performed for an aluminium sheet with texture and one with crystals exhibiting random distribution to demonstrate the effect of texture of materials on their plastic anisotropy and formability. An anisotropic yield criterion for polycrystalline metals which uses texture data and takes advantage of crystal symmetries is presented. A linear transformation is developed to map an anisotropic yield surface for a polycrystal to an appropriate isotropic yield surface. The transformation developed reflects the symmetry of the material being modeled. First, the transformation is determined. Then, information regarding the orientation distribution (texture) of the crystals in a polycrystalline aggregate is used to determine, via averaging, the transformation for the polycrystal. The transformation, along with appropriate isotropic yield surface, provides a phenomenological approach to modeling yield, yet accounts for microstructural texture. The approach reduces to the Hill (1950) anisotropic plasticity theory under certain conditions. The yield surfaces and R-values for various face-centered-cubic ( fcc) polycrystalline textures are computed by this method. Results compare favorably with those given by other theories, and with experiment. The method proves to have the computational efficiency of phenomenological approaches to modeling yield, while effectively incorporating the physics of more complex crystallographic approaches.  相似文献

Accurate and reliable predictions of yield surfaces and their evolution with deformation require a better physical representation of the important sources of anisotropy in the material. Until recently, the most physical approach employed in the current literature has been the use of polycrystalline deformation models, where it is assumed that crystallographic texture is the main contributor to the overall anisotropy. However, recent studies have revealed that the grain-scale mesostructural features (e.g. cell-block boundaries) may have a large impact on the anisotropic stress-strain behaviour, as evidenced during strain-path change tests (e.g. cross effect, Bauschinger effect). In previous papers, the authors formulated an extension of the Taylor-type crystal plasticity model by incorporating some details of the grain-scale mesostructural features. The main purpose of this paper is to study the evolution of yield surfaces in single-phase b.c.c. polycrystals during deformation and strain-path changes using this extended crystal plasticity model. It is demonstrated that the contribution of the grain-scale substructure in these metals on yield loci is comparable in magnitude to the effects caused by the differences in texture. Furthermore, it is shown that the shape of yield loci cannot be predicted accurately by the traditional polycrystalline deformation model with equal slip hardening. The trends predicted by the extended crystal plasticity model are in much better agreement with the experimental evidence reported in the literature than those represented in classical treatments by isotropic and kinematic hardening.  相似文献

The objective of this contribution is to develop an elastic-plastic-damage constitutive model for crystal grain and to incorporate it with two-scale finite element analyses based on mathematical homogenization method, in order to characterize the macroscopic tensile strength of polycrystalline metals. More specifically, the constitutive model for single crystal is obtained by combining hyperelasticity, a rate-independent single crystal plasticity and a continuum damage model. The evolution equations, stress update algorithm and consistent tangent are derived within the framework of standard elastoplasticity at finite strain. By employing two-scale finite element analysis, the ductile behaviour of polycrystalline metals and corresponding tensile strength are evaluated. The importance of finite element formulation is examined by comparing performance of several finite elements and their convergence behaviour is assessed with mesh refinement. Finally, the grain size effect on yield and tensile strength is analysed in order to illustrate the versatility of the proposed two-scale model.  相似文献

Nano- and micro-indentation of Cu single crystals is performed in directions not aligned with crystallographic axes. Such tests correspond to mechanical characterization of incidentally oriented grains in a polycrystalline or composite material. Orientation and size dependence of complex patterns of surface piling-up and sinking-in around the imprint are investigated. Experimental observations are compared with finite element simulations based on the large deformation crystal plasticity theory.  相似文献
