The title Zintl phases are prepared by reactions of the corresponding elemental alkali metals with pre‐prepared M‐Sn alloys (M: Ni, Co) at 550—880 °C for 48 h.

Single crystals of Ce₃Pt₄Sn₆ (I) and Ce_1‐xPt₆Al_13+2x (x = 0.207, (II)) are isolated by mechanical fragmentation of specimens grown from self‐fluxes (Sn or Al, resp.) by slow cooling from the melt.

Single phase Ba₅KNb₅O₁₈ (I) is prepared by solid state reaction of Ba₅Nb₄O₁₅ and KNbO₃ (1370 K, 2 h), while Sr₆Nb₄SnO₁₈ (II) results from calcination of the coprecipitated metal hydroxycarbonates (1570 K, 2 h).
