Association Schemes of Quadratic Forms and Symmetric Bilinear Forms

Let X _n and Y _n be the sets of quadratic forms and symmetric bilinear forms on an n-dimensional vector space V over , respectively. The orbits of GL _n( ) on X _n × X _n define an association scheme Qua(n, q). The orbits of GL _n( ) on Y _n × Y _n also define an association scheme Sym(n, q). Our main results are: Qua(n, q) and Sym(n, q) are formally dual. When q is odd, Qua(n, q) and Sym(n, q) are isomorphic; Qua(n, q) and Sym(n, q) are primitive and self-dual. Next we assume that q is even. Qua(n, q) is imprimitive; when (n, q) (2,2), all subschemes of Qua(n, q) are trivial, i.e., of class one, and the quotient scheme is isomorphic to Alt(n, q), the association scheme of alternating forms on V. The dual statements hold for Sym(n, q).     

Survival Analysis of Latvian Population Using Tchebyshev's Polynomials

Several laws have been used in history to characterize mortality. Some of them are rather simple, like Gompertz's law, or quite complicated, like Heligman and Pollard's law. But no law fits very well for all countries and in all time intervals. A similar situation exists in Latvia too. Therefore the main idea of this paper was not to find concrete mortality law but to find its approximation by Fourier and Tchebyshev's series to use an appropriate number of terms. Experimentally, was found that good approximation can be reached using nine terms. Further behavior of constants with the aim of projecting them, was investigated in relation to the approximation of mortality law by the Fourier–Tchebyshev series for a large range of data (1973–1997).     

有理函数积分的公式解法

被积函数为有理函数的不定积分求解通常是采用待定系数法。本文提出了这类积分的非待定系数公式解法,较完美地解决了这类积分问题。在实际应用中显示了这种新型方法是简捷的和有效的。它的优点还在于不仅对一些常规方法极为困难或无法解决的问题给以简明的解,而且借助于电子计算机可解决更复杂的问题。     

A family of univalent polynomials in an angular domain

We study the properties of symmetric polynomials of a particular form and use them to find a maximal angular domain of univalence for some family of polynomials.

Matrices of Formal Power Series Associated to Binomial Posets

We introduce an operation that assigns to each binomial poset a partially ordered set for which the number of saturated chains in any interval is a function of two parameters. We develop a corresponding theory of generating functions involving noncommutative formal power series modulo the closure of a principal ideal, which may be faithfully represented by the limit of an infinite sequence of lower triangular matrix representations. The framework allows us to construct matrices of formal power series whose inverse may be easily calculated using the relation between the Möbius and zeta functions, and to find a unified model for the Tchebyshev polynomials of the first kind and for the derivative polynomials used to express the derivatives of the secant function as a polynomial of the tangent function.On leave from the Rényi Mathematical Institute of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.     

A note on the interlacing of zeros and orthogonality

Let be a sequence of monic polynomials with deg(t_n)=n such that, for each n∈N, the zeros of t_n are real and simple and t_n and t_n+1 have no common zeros. We discuss the connection between the orthogonality of the sequence, the positivity of a certain ratio, and the interlacing of the zeros of t_n and t_n+1 for n≥1, n∈N.     

三维插值对称正交小波的构造

高维小波分析是分析和处理多维数字信号的有力工具.基于任意的三维正交尺度函数及相应的正交小波,提出一种构造三维插值对称尺度函数和对称小波的方法,并建立了多维信号采样定理,这一点在信号处理中具有很好的应用价值.最后给出了数值算例.     

Finite Differences and Orthogonal Polynomials

By combining finite differences with symmetric functions, we present an elementary demonstration for the limit relation from Laguerre to Hermite polynomials, proposed by Richard Askey. Another limit relation between these two polynomials will also be established.     

M_(12)作用在396个点上的SPBIB设计的分类

研究Mathieu群M_(12)作用在396个点上所构成的对称的部分平衡不完全区组设计(即SPBIB设计)的分类情况.首先,证明了以M_(12)作为自同构群的非平凡的2-(396,k,λ)对称设计是不存在的.然后,得到了同构意义下的3个点数为396且区组长度为80的SPBIB设计.最后,给出了396个点上以M_(12)作为自同构群的SPBIB设计的完全分类.     

A note on L. Zhou's result on Finsler surfaces with K = 0 and J = 0

In this note, we show that the examples of non-Berwaldian Landsberg surfaces with vanishing flag curvature, obtained in [5], are in fact Berwaldian. Consequently, Bryant's claim is still unverified.     

偶特征有限域上对称矩阵结合方案

设S(n,q)是偶特征有限域F_q上n×n对称矩阵所成的集合.令R_i={(X,Y)|X,Y∈S(n,q),rank(Y-X)=2i-1,2i},0≤i≤[(n+1)/2]采用矩阵方法,证明了Sym(n,q)={s(n,q),{R_i}_(0≤i≤)[(n+1)/2]}是[(n+1)/2]个结合类的P—多项式对称结合方案,而Sym(n,q)的结合关系的图Γ~((1))是正则的,并且它同构于交错矩阵结合方案.此外,又给出Sym(n,q)的自同构形式.     

EXISTENCE AND ITERATION OF POSITIVE SYMMETRIC SOLUTIONS TO A MULTI-POINT BOUNDARY VALUE PROBLEM

In this paper,we consider the existence of symmetric solutions to a nonlinear second order multi-point boundary value problem,and establish corresponding iterative schemes based on the monotone iterative method.
