 Let T be a triangulated category and let X be an object of T. This paper studies the questions: Does there exist a triangulated functor G : D(ℤ)  T with G(ℤ)≌X? Does there exist a triangulated functor H : T  D(ℤ) with h0 ⊚ H ⋍ HomT (X, −)? To what extent are G and H unique? One spin off is a proof that the homotopy category of spectra is not the stable category of any Frobenius category with set indexed coproducts. Denoting byu a vector in R N defined on a bounded open set Ω ⊂ R n , we setH(u)={Dij u} and consider a basic differential operator of second ordera(H(u)) wherea(ξ) is a vector in R N , which is elliptic in the sense that it satisfies the condition (A). After a rapid comparison between this condition (A) and the classical definition of ellipticity, we shall prove that, if seu∈H 2 (Ω) is a solution of the elliptic systema(H(u))=0 in Ω thenH(u)∈H loc 2, q for someq>2. We then deduce from this the so called fundamental internal estimates for the matrixH(u) and for the vectorsDu andu. This is an addendum to the recent Cambridge Tract “Harmonic maps between Riemannian polyhedra”, by J. Eells and the present author. H?lder continuity of locally energy minimizing maps from an admissible Riemannian polyhedron X to a complete geodesic space Y is established here in two cases: (1) Y is simply connected and has curvature (in the sense of A.D. Alexandrov), or (2) Y is locally compact and has curvature , say, and is contained in a convex ball in Y satisfying bi-point uniqueness and of radius (best possible). With Y a Riemannian polyhedron, and in case (2), this was established in the book mentioned above, though with H?lder continuity taken in a weaker, pointwise sense. For X a Riemannian manifold the stated results are due to N.J. Korevaar and R.M. Schoen, resp. T. Serbinowski. We study non-linear parabolic systems with non-standard p(z)-growth conditions and establish that the gradient of weak solutions is locally H?lder continuous with H?lder exponent b ? (0,1){\beta \in (0,1)} with respect to the parabolic metric on an open set of full Lebesgue measure, provided the exponent function p(z) itself is H?lder continuous with exponent β with respect to the parabolic metric.  相似文献

We study a H?lder regularity of gradients for evolutional p-Laplacian systems with H?lder continuous coefficients and exterior force. We use the perturbation argument with the p-Laplacian systems with constant coefficients and only principal terms. The main task is to make the H?lder estimate of gradients for the systems above well-worked in the perturbation estimate. We also need to make a localization of the H?lder estimate in [2]. Let X represent either the space C[-1,1] L p (α,β) (w), 1 ≦ p < ∞ on [-1, 1]. Then Xare Banach spaces under the sup or the p norms, respectively. We prove that there exists a normalized Banach subspace X 1 αβ of Xsuch that every f ∈ X 1 αβ can be represented by a linear combination of Jacobi polynomials to any degree of accuracy. Our method to prove such an approximation problem is Fourier–Jacobi analysis based on the convergence of Fourier–Jacobi expansions. We prove the boundary Harnack principle for ratios of solutions u/v of non-divergence second order elliptic equations Lu = a ij D ij u + b i D i u = 0 in a bounded domain Ω ⊂  \mathbb R {\mathbb R} n . An a priori estimate for the H?lder constant with exponent 0 < α < 1 is obtained for smooth solutions to m-Hessian equations in a closed domain with (m − 1)-convex boundary of class C 2. We consider the stochastic differential equation dX t = a(X t )dW t + b(X t )dt, where W is a one-dimensional Brownian motion. We formulate the notion of solution and prove strong existence and pathwise uniqueness results when a is in C 1/2 and b is only a generalized function, for example,the distributional derivative of a H?lder function or of a function of bounded variation. When b = aa′, that is, when the generator of the SDE is the divergence form operator ℒ = , a result on non-existence of a strong solution and non-pathwise uniqueness is given as well as a result which characterizes when a solution is a semimartingale or not. An optimal nonlinear Galerkin method with mixed finite elements is developed for solving the two‐dimensional steady incompressible Navier‐Stokes equations. This method is based on two finite element spaces XH and Xh for the approximation of velocity, defined on a coarse grid with grid size H and a fine grid with grid size h ? H, respectively, and a finite element space Mh for the approximation of pressure. We prove that the difference in appropriate norms between the solutions of the nonlinear Galerkin method and a classical Galerkin method is of the order of H5. If we choose H = O(h2/5), these two methods have a convergence rate of the same order. We numerically demonstrate that the optimal nonlinear Galerkin method is efficient and can save a large amount of computational time. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In 1934, Whitney raised the question of how to recognize whether a function f defined on a closed subset X of ℝ n is the restriction of a function of class 𝒞 p . A necessary and sufficient criterion was given in the case n=1 by Whitney, using limits of finite differences, and in the case p=1 by Glaeser (1958), using limits of secants. We introduce a necessary geometric criterion, for general n and p, involving limits of finite differences, that we conjecture is sufficient at least if X has a “tame topology”. We prove that, if X is a compact subanalytic set, then there exists q=q X (p) such that the criterion of order q implies that f is 𝒞 p . The result gives a new approach to higher-order tangent bundles (or bundles of differential operators) on singular spaces.
