Absence of Solutions to Higher-Order Evolution Differential Inequalities   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Sufficient conditions are given for absence of global solutions to semilinear evolution differential equations and inequalities of higher order (in the time variable). These results generalize the well-known assertions for parabolic and hyperbolic equations. The proofs base on the test function method by Veron, Mitidieri, Pokhozhaev, and Tesei.  相似文献

It is shown that every non-compact hyperbolic manifold of finite volume has a finite cover admitting a geodesic ideal triangulation. Also, every hyperbolic manifold of finite volume with non-empty, totally geodesic boundary has a finite regular cover which has a geodesic partially truncated triangulation. The proofs use an extension of a result due to Long and Niblo concerning the separability of peripheral subgroups.

<正>This paper deals with absorbing boundary conditions for hyperbolic systems in one and two space dimensions.We prove the strict well-posedness of the resulting initial boundary value problem in 1D.Afterwards we establish the GKS-stability of the corresponding Lax-Wendroff-type finite difference scheme.Hereby,we have to extend the classical proofs,since the(discretized) absorbing boundary conditions do not fit the standard form of boundary conditions for hyperbolic systems.  相似文献

We study the long-time behavior of radial solutions to nonlinear Schr?dinger equations on hyperbolic space. We show that the usual distinction between short-range and long-range nonlinearity is modified: the geometry of the hyperbolic space makes every power-like nonlinearity short range. The proofs rely on weighted Strichartz estimates, which imply Strichartz estimates for a broader family of admissible pairs, and on Morawetz-type inequalities. We introduce a notion of the twist of an isometry of the hyperbolic plane. This twist function is defined on the universal covering group of orientation-preserving isometries of the hyperbolic plane, at each point in the plane. We relate this function to a function defined by Milnor and generalised by Wood. We deduce various properties of the twist function, and use it to give new proofs of several well-known results, including the Milnor–Wood inequality, using purely hyperbolic-geometric methods. Our methods express inequalities in Milnor’s function as equalities, with the deficiency from equality given by an area in the hyperbolic plane. We find that the twist of certain products found in surface group presentations is equal to the area of certain hyperbolic polygons arising as their fundamental domains.  相似文献

Every open ball within has an associated hyperbolic metric and Möbius transformations act as hyperbolic isometries from one ball to another. The Hillam–Thron Theorem is concerned with images of balls under Möbius transformation, yet existing proofs of the theorem do not make use of hyperbolic geometry. In this study,we prove the existence,uniqueness,and continuous dependence upon the data of solution to integro-differential hyperbolic equation with purely nonlocal(integral) conditions.The proofs are based on a priori estimates and Laplace transform method.Finally,we obtain the solution using a numerical technique(Stehfest algorithm) by inverting the Laplace transform.  相似文献

We prove that stable and unstable manifolds of hyperbolic periodic orbits for general scalar reaction-diffusion equations on a circle always intersect transversally. The argument also shows that for a periodic orbit there are no homoclinic connections. The main tool used in the proofs is Matano's zero number theory dealing with the Sturm nodal properties of the solutions.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the large-time behavior of solutions to the initial-boundary value problem for n × n hyperbolic system of conservation laws with artificial viscosity in the half line (0, ∞). We first show that a boundary layer exists if the corresponding hyperbolic part contains at least one characteristic field with negative propagation speed. We further show that such boundary layer is nonlinearly stable under small initial perturbation. The proofs are given by an elementary energy method.  相似文献

In this survey paper, we outline the proofs of rigidity results (Mostow type, quasi-isometric, and Diagram rigidity) for simple, thick, hyperbolic P-manifolds. These are stratified spaces, and are in some sense the simplest non-manifold locally CAT(−1) spaces one can create, having codimension one singularities along embedded totally geodesic submanifolds. All the proofs depend on the highly non-homogenous structure of the boundary at infinity of the (universal covers of the) spaces in question, and in particular, on an understanding of the local topology of the boundary at infinity. We emphasize the similarities and differences in the proofs of the various rigidity results. These results should be viewed as a first step towards understanding stratified locally CAT(−1) spaces.   相似文献

We show existence of time-periodic supersonic solutions in a finite interval, after certain start-up time depending on the length of the interval, to the one space-dimensional isentropic compressible Euler equations, subjected to periodic boundary conditions. Both classical solutions and weak entropy solutions, as well as high-frequency limiting behavior are considered. The proofs depend on the theory of Cauchy problems of genuinely nonlinear hyperbolic systems of conservation laws.  相似文献

The points homoclinic to 0 under a hyperbolic toral automorphism form the intersection of the stable and unstable manifolds of 0. This is a subgroup isomorphic to the fundamental group of the torus. Suppose that two hyperbolic toral automorphisms commute so that they determine a ℤ2-action, which we assume is irreducible. We show, by an algebraic investigation of their eigenspaces, that they either have exactly the same homoclinic points or have no homoclinic point in common except 0 itself. We prove the corresponding result for a compact connected abelian group, and compare the two proofs. In this paper we study asymptotic properties of symmetric and nondegenerate random walks on transient hyperbolic groups. We prove a central limit theorem and a law of iterated logarithm for the drift of a random walk, extending previous results by S. Sawyer and T. Steger and of F. Ledrappier for certain CAT(−1)-groups. The proofs use a result by A. Ancona on the identification of the Martin boundary of a hyperbolic group with its Gromov boundary. We also give a new interpretation, in terms of Hilbert metrics, of the Green metric, first introduced by S. Brofferio and S. Blachère.  相似文献

Summary. Systems of nonlinear hyperbolic conservation laws in two space dimensions are considered which are characterized by the fact that the coupling of the equations is only due to source terms. To solve these weakly coupled systems numerically a class of explicit and implicit upwind finite volume methods on unstructured grids is presented. Provided an unique entropy solution of the system of conservation laws exists we prove that the approximations obtained by these schemes converge for vanishing discretization parameter to this entropy solution. These results are applied to examples from combustion theory and hydrology where the existence of entropy solutions can be shown. The proofs rely on an extension of a result due to DiPerna concerning measure valued solutions to the case of weakly coupled hyperbolic systems. Received April 29, 1997  相似文献

Abstract

We define higher degree hyperbolic forms, analogous to the quadratic hyperbolic forms. We prove the following descent result. Let f be a form of degree d ≥ 3 over a field F of characteristic 0, and let K|f be a field extension. Then if f is equivalent over K to a hyperbolic form, f must already be equivalent to it over F. We also prove that in the monoid of equivalence classes of forms defined over F of a fixed degree d ≥ 3, under the tensor product, the submonoid generated by the equivalence classes of the hyperbolic forms is free. The proofs of these results involve the calculation of the centres and the Lie algebras of the higher degree hyperbolic forms. We provide an upper bound on the Cheeger constant and first eigenvalue of the Laplacian of a finite-volume hyperbolic 3-manifold M, in terms of data from any surgery diagram for M. This has several consequences. We prove that a family of hyperbolic alternating link complements is expanding if and only if they have bounded volume. We also provide examples of hyperbolic 3-manifolds which require ‘complicated’ surgery diagrams, thereby proving that a recent theorem of Constantino and Thurston is sharp. Along the way, we find a new upper bound on the bridge number of a knot that is not tangle composite, in terms of the twist number of any diagram of the knot. The proofs rely on a theorem of Lipton and Tarjan on planar graphs, and also the relationship between many different notions of width for knots and 3-manifolds.  相似文献
