Let M^n be a closed spacelike submanifold isometrically immersed in de Sitter space Sp^(n p)(c), Denote by R,H and S the normalized scalar curvature, the mean curvature and the square of the length of the second fundamental form of M^n ,respectively. Suppose R is constant and R≤c. The pinching problem on S is studied and a rigidity theorem for M^n immersed in Sp^(n p)(c) with parallel normalized mean curvature vector field is proved. When n≥3, the pinching constant is the best. Thus, the mistake of the paper “Space-like hypersurfaces in de Sitter space with constant scalar curvature”(see Manus Math, 1998,95 :499-505) is corrected. Moreover, the reduction of the codimension when M^n is a complete submanifold in Sp^(n p)(c) with parallel normalized mean curvature vector field is investigated.  相似文献

The concept of harmonic pseudo-horizontally homothetic submersion, alias harmonic PHH submersion, expresses the more geometric notion of smooth family of minimal submanifolds indexed by a K?hler parameter manifold. We give results that allow to construct harmonic PHH submersions by solving some implicit equations and we apply this method to the case of sphere bundles. We prove that MinEnt (Y) ∥Y∥ = MinEnt(X) ∥X∥, for manifolds Y whose fundamental group is a subexponential extension of the fundamental group of some negatively curved, locally symmetric manifold X. This is a particular case of a more general result holding for an arbitrary representation ρ : π1 (Y) →π1 (X), which relates the minimal entropy and the simplicial volume of X to some invariants of the couple (Y, ker (ρ)). Then, we discuss some applications to the minimal volume problem and to Einstein metrics. Received: 23 December 1998  相似文献

Riemannian symmetric spaces have the following two classes of spaces as their natural generalizations: (A) the class ofGS-spaces (generalized symmetric Riemannian spaces); (B) the class ofGPS-spaces (generalized pointwise symmetric Riemannian spaces). A result due to O. Kowalski says that the relation between the two classes is (A) (B), the inclusion being strict. In the present paper the author proves that in dimension 5 the class (A) and the class (B) must coincide. Consequently the explicit classification of five-dimensional GPS-spaces is obtained.  相似文献

In the Riemannian case, our approach to warped products illuminates curvature formulas that previously seemed formal and somewhat mysterious. Moreover, the geometric approach allows us to study warped products in a much more general class of spaces. For complete metric spaces, it is known that nonpositive curvature in the Alexandrov sense is preserved by gluing on isometric closed convex subsets and by Gromov–Hausdorff limits with strictly positive convexity radius; we show it is also preserved by warped products with convex warping functions. In this paper, we consider a complete noncompact n-submanifold M with parallel mean curvature vector h in an Euclidean space. If M has finite total curvature, we prove that M must be minimal, so that M is an affine n-plane if it is strongly stable. This is a generalization of the result on strongly stable complete hypersurfaces with constant mean curvature in Received: 30 June 2005  相似文献

In this paper, we consider complete hypersurfaces in R n+1 with constant mean curvature H and prove that M n is a hyperplane if the L 2 norm curvature of M n satisfies some growth condition and M n is stable. It is an improvement of a theorem proved by H. Alencar and M. do Carmo in 1994. In addition, we obtain that M n is a hyperplane (or a round sphere) under the condition that M n is strongly stable (or weakly stable) and has some finite L p norm curvature. We prove a “general shrinking lemma” that resembles the Schwarz–Pick–Ahlfors Lemma and its many generalizations, but differs in applying to maps of a finite disk into a disk, rather than requiring the domain of the map to be complete. The conclusion is that distances to the origin are all shrunk, and by a limiting procedure we can recover the original Ahlfors Lemma, that all distances are shrunk. The method of proof is also different in that it relates the shrinking of the Schwarz–Pick–Ahlfors-type lemmas to the comparison theorems of Riemannian geometry. On eigenvalue pinching in positive Ricci curvature   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
We shall show that for manifolds with Ric≥n−1 the radius is close to π iff the (n+1)st eigenvalue is close to n. This extends results of Cheng and Croke which show that the diameter is close to π iff the first eigenvalue is close to n. We shall also give a new proof of an important theorem of Colding to the effect that if the radius is close to π, then the volume is close to that of the sphere and the manifold is Gromov-Hausdorff close to the sphere. From work of Cheeger and Colding these conditions imply that the manifold is diffeomorphic to a sphere. Oblatum 29-V-1998 & 4-II-1999 / Published online: 21 May 1999  相似文献

Let Mn be a complete Riemannian manifold immersed isometrically in the unity Euclidean sphere In [9], B. Smyth proved that if Mn, n ≧ 3, has sectional curvature K and Ricci curvature Ric, with inf K > −∞, then sup Ric ≧ (n − 2) unless the universal covering of Mn is homeomorphic to Rn or homeomorphic to an odd-dimensional sphere. In this paper, we improve the result of Smyth. Moreover, we obtain the classification of complete hypersurfaces of with nonnegative sectional curvature.Received: 11 November 2003  相似文献

In this article we compute the pinching constants of all invariant Riemannian metrics on the Berger space B 13=SU(5)/(Sp(2)×ℤ2S1) and of all invariant U(2)-biinvariant Riemannian metrics on the Aloff–Wallach space W 7 1,1=SU(3)/S1 1,1. We prove that the optimal pinching constants are precisely in both cases. So far B 13 and W 7 1,1 were only known to admit Riemannian metrics with pinching constants .?We also investigate the optimal pinching constants for the invariant metrics on the other Aloff–Wallach spaces W 7 k,l =SU(3)/S1 k,l . Our computations cover the cone of invariant T2-biinvariant Riemannian metrics. This cone contains all invariant Riemannian metrics unless k/l=1. It turns out that the optimal pinching constants are given by a strictly increasing function in k/l∈[0,1]. Thus all the optimal pinching constants are ≤.?In order to determine the extremal values of the sectional curvature of an invariant Riemannian metric on W 7 k,l we employ a systematic technique, which can be applied to other spaces as well. The computation of the pinching constants for B 13 is reduced to the curvature computation for two proper totally geodesic submanifolds. One of them is diffeomorphic to ℂℙ3/ℤ2 and inherits an Sp(2)-invariant Riemannian metric, and the other is W 7 1,1 embedded as recently found by Taimanov. This approach explains in particular the coincidence of the optimal pinching constants for W 7 1,1 and the Berger space B 13. Let M be a connected sum of complete Riemannian manifolds satisfying the volume doubling condition and the Poincaré inequality. We prove that the space of polynomial growth harmonic functions on M is finite dimensional whenever M has finitely many ends and satisfies the finite covering condition on each end. This result directly generalizes that of Tam, and it also partially generalizes that of Colding and Minicozzi II. Received July 17, 1998; in final form December 2, 1998  相似文献

Consider a compact Riemannian manifold (M, g) with metric g and dimension n ≥ 3. The Schouten tensor A g associated with g is a symmetric (0, 2)-tensor field describing the non-conformally-invariant part of the curvature tensor of g. In this paper, we consider the elementary symmetric functions {σ k (A g ), 1 ≤ kn} of the eigenvalues of A g with respect to g; we call σ k (A g ) the k-th Schouten curvature function. We give an isometric classification for compact locally conformally flat manifolds which satisfy the conditions: A g is semi-positive definite and σ k (A g ) is a nonzero constant for some k ∈ {2, ... , n}. If k = 2, we obtain a classification result under the weaker conditions that σ2(A g ) is a non-negative constant and (M n , g) has nonnegative Ricci curvature. The corresponding result for the case k = 1 is well known. We also give an isometric classification for complete locally conformally flat manifolds with constant scalar curvature and non-negative Ricci curvature. We give an existence result for constant mean curvature graphs in hyperbolic space . Let be a compact domain of a horosphere in whose boundary is mean convex, that is, its mean curvature (as a submanifold of the horosphere) is positive with respect to the inner orientation. If H is a number such that , then there exists a graph over with constant mean curvature H and boundary . Umbilical examples, when is a sphere, show that our hypothesis on H is the best possible. The purpose of this paper is to construct a set of Riemannian metrics on a manifold X with the property that will develop a pinching singularity in finite time when evolved by Ricci flow. More specifically, let , where N n is an arbitrary closed manifold of dimension n≥ 2 which admits an Einstein metric of positive curvature. We construct a (non-empty) set of warped product metrics on the non-compact manifold X such that if , then a smooth solution , t∈[0,T) to the Ricci flow equation exists for some maximal constant T, 0<T<∞, with initial value , and

Starting from a 6-dimensional nilpotent Lie group N endowed with an invariant SU(3) structure, we construct a homogeneous conformally parallel G2-metric on an associated solvmanifold. We classify all half-flat SU(3) structures that endow the rank-one solvable extension of N with a conformally parallel G2 structure. By suitably deforming the SU(3) structures obtained, we are able to describe the corresponding non-homogeneous Ricci-flat metrics with holonomy contained in G2. In the process we also find a new metric with exceptional holonomy. Received: 20 September  相似文献

In this paper we prove that a compact oriented hypersurface of a Euclidean sphere with nonnegative Ricci curvature and infinite fundamental group is isometric to an H(r)-torus with constant mean curvature. Furthermore, we generalize, whithout any hypothesis about the mean curvature, a characterization of Clifford torus due to Hasanis and Vlachos. Received: 19 March 2002  相似文献

Abstract. Let M be a complete nondegenerate locally standard CR manifold. We show that a necessary and sufficient condition for M to be compact is that the Lie algebra of its infinitesimal CR automorphisms is semisimple. In general we realize M as a Mostow fibration over a compact CR manifoldB whose universal covering is a Cartesian product of Hermitian symmetric spaces and compact nondegenerate standard CR manifolds.
