New symmetric DIRK methods specially adapted to the numerical integration of first-order stiff ODE systems with periodic solutions are obtained. Our interest is focused on the dispersion (phase errors) of the dominant components in the numerical oscillations when these methods are applied to the homogeneous linear test model. Based on this homogeneous test model we derive the dispersion conditions for symmetric DIRK methods as well as symmetric stability functions with real poles and maximal dispersion order. Two new fourth-order symmetric methods with four and five stages are obtained. One of the methods is fourth-order dispersive whereas the other method is symplectic and sixth-order dispersive. These methods have been applied to a number of test problems (linear as well as nonlinear) and some numerical results are presented to show their efficiency when they are compared with the symplectic DIRK method derived by Sanz-Serna and Abia (SIAM J. Numer. Anal. 28 (1991) 1081–1096).  相似文献

The stability of explicit ARKN methods for the numerical integration of perturbed oscillators is analyzed. Stability regions for the second-order homogeneous linear test model are obtained. These stability regions represent a generalization of the stability intervals for the classical RKN methods.  相似文献

The so-called Serre or Green and Naghdi equations are a well-known set of fully nonlinear and weakly dispersive equations that describe the propagation of long surface waves in shallow water. In order to extend its range of application to intermediate water depths, some modifications have been proposed in the literature. In this work, we analyze a new Serre model with improved linear dispersion characteristics. This new Serre system, herein denoted by Serreα, β, presents additional terms of dispersive origin, thus extending its applicability to more general depth to wavelength ratios.A careful development of the Serreα, β model allows a straightforward and efficient numerical implementation. This model is suitable for numerical integration by a splitting strategy which requires the solution of a hyperbolic problem and a dispersive problem. The hyperbolic part is discretized using a high-order finite volume method. For the dispersive part standard finite differences are used. A set of numerical experiments are conducted to validate the Serreα, β model and to test the robustness of our numerical scheme. Theoretical solutions and benchmark experimental data are used. Moreover, comparisons against the classical Serre equations and against another well established Serre model with improved dispersion characteristics are also made.  相似文献

A family of two-stepA-stable methods of maximal order for the numerical solution of ordinary differential systems is developed. If these methods are applied to the stiff, large systems which originate from linear parabolic differential equations they yield a large, sparse set of linear algebraic equations of special form. This set is considerably easier to solve than the algebraic equations which are obtained when using diagonal Obrechkoff methods, which are one-step,A-stable and of maximal order  相似文献

We discuss error propagation for general linear methods for ordinary differential equations up to terms of order p+2, where p is the order of the method. These results are then applied to the estimation of local discretization errors for methods of order p and for the adjacent order p+1. The results of numerical experiments confirm the reliability of these estimates. This research has applications in the design of robust stepsize and order changing strategies for algorithms based on general linear methods.  相似文献

A new class of resonant dispersive shock waves was recently identified as solutions of the Kawahara equation— a Korteweg–de Vries (KdV) type nonlinear wave equation with third‐ and fifth‐order spatial derivatives— in the regime of nonconvex, linear dispersion. Linear resonance resulting from the third‐ and fifth‐order terms in the Kawahara equation was identified as the key ingredient for nonclassical dispersive shock wave solutions. Here, nonlinear wave (Whitham) modulation theory is used to construct approximate nonclassical traveling dispersive shock wave (TDSW) solutions of the fifth‐ order KdV equation without the third derivative term, hence without any linear resonance. A self‐similar, simple wave modulation solution of the fifth order, weakly nonlinear KdV–Whitham equations is obtained that matches a constant to a heteroclinic traveling wave via a partial dispersive shock wave so that the TDSW is interpreted as a nonlinear resonance. The modulation solution is compared with full numerical solutions, exhibiting excellent agreement. The TDSW is shown to be modulationally stable in the presence of sufficiently small third‐order dispersion. The Kawahara–Whitham modulation equations transition from hyperbolic to elliptic type for sufficiently large third‐order dispersion, which provides a possible route for the TDSW to exhibit modulational instability.  相似文献

Stability analysis of some representative numerical methods for systems of neutral delay-differential equations (NDDEs) is considered. After the establishment of a sufficient condition of asymptotic stability for linear NDDEs, the stability regions of linear multistep, explicit Runge-Kutta and implicitA-stable Runge-Kutta methods are discussed when they are applied to asymptotically stable linear NDDEs. Some mentioning about the extension of the results for the multiple delay case is given.  相似文献

Inspired by the successful applications of the stochastic optimization with second order stochastic dominance (SSD) model in portfolio optimization, we study new numerical methods for a general SSD model where the underlying functions are not necessarily linear. Specifically, we penalize the SSD constraints to the objective under Slater’s constraint qualification and then apply the well known stochastic approximation (SA) method and the level function method to solve the penalized problem. Both methods are iterative: the former requires to calculate an approximate subgradient of the objective function of the penalized problem at each iterate while the latter requires to calculate a subgradient. Under some moderate conditions, we show that w.p.1 the sequence of approximated solutions generated by the SA method converges to an optimal solution of the true problem. As for the level function method, the convergence is deterministic and in some cases we are able to estimate the number of iterations for a given precision. Both methods are applied to portfolio optimization problem where the return functions are not necessarily linear and some numerical test results are reported.  相似文献

A new nonstandard Eulerian‐Lagrangian method is constructed for the one‐dimensional, transient convective‐dispersive transport equation with nonlinear reaction terms. An “exact” difference scheme is applied to the convection‐reaction part of the equation to produce a semi‐discrete approximation with zero local truncation errors with respect to time. The spatial derivatives involved in the remaining dispersion term are then approximated using standard numerical methods. This approach leads to significant, qualitative improvements in the behavior of the numerical solution. It suppresses the numerical instabilities that arise from the incorrect modeling of derivatives and nonlinear reaction terms. Numerical experiments demonstrate the scheme's ability to model convection‐dominated, reactive transport problems. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A boundary value appraoch to the numerical solution of initial value problems by means of linear multistep methods is presented. This theory is based on the study of linear difference equations when their general solution is computed by imposing boundary conditions. All the main stability and convergence properties of the obtained methods are investigated abd compared to those of the classical multistep methods. Then, as an example, new itegration formulas, called extended trapezoidal rules, are derived. For any order they have the same stability properties (in the sense of the definitions given in this paper) of the trapezoidal rule, which is the first method in this class. Some numerical examples are presented to confirm the theoretical expectations and to allow us to trust a future code based on boundary value methods.  相似文献

Count data with excess zeros encountered in many applications often exhibit extra variation. Therefore, zero-inflated Poisson (ZIP) model may fail to fit such data. In this paper, a zero-inflated double Poisson model (ZIDP), which is generalization of the ZIP model, is studied and the score tests for the significance of dispersion and zero-inflation in ZIDP model are developed. Meanwhile, this work also develops homogeneous tests for dispersion and/or zero-inflation parameter, and corresponding score test statistics are obtained. One numerical example is given to illustrate our methodology and the properties of score test statistics are investigated through Monte Carlo simulations.  相似文献

In this paper numerical methods involving higher order derivatives for the solution of periodic initial value problems of second order differential equations are derived. The methods depend upon a parameter p > 0 and reduce to their classical counter parts as p → 0. The methods are periodically stable when the parameter p is chosen as the square of the frequency of the linear homogeneous equation. The numerical methods involving derivatives of order up to 2q are of polynomial order 2q and trigonometric order one. Numerical results are presented for both the linear and nonlinear problems. The applicability of implicit adaptive methods to linear systems is illustrated.  相似文献

This paper deals with the delay-dependent stability of numerical methods for delay differential equations. First, a stability criterion of Runge-Kutta methods is extended to the case of general linear methods. Then, linear multistep methods are considered and a class of r(0)-stable methods are found. Later, some examples of r(0)-stable multistep multistage methods are given. Finally, numerical experiments are presented to confirm the theoretical results.  相似文献

It is proved herein that certain smooth, global solutions of a class of quasi-linear, dissipative wave equations have precisely the same leading order, long-time, asymptotic behavior as the solutions with the same initial data of the corresponding linearized equations. The solutions of the nonlinear equations are shown to be asymptotically self-similar with explicitly determined profiles. The equations considered have homogeneous nonlinearities and homogeneous dispersive and dissipative symbols. By relating these degrees of homogeneous to the leading order asymptotic behavior of the Fourier transform of the initial data near k= 0, different classes of long-time asymptotic behavior are characterized. These results cover the case where dissipation is not asymptotically negligible in comparison with dispersion, and where nonlinear effect are asymptotically negligible in comparison with linear effect, i.e., dissipation and dispersion. They always hold for solutions with "small" initial data. In most circumstances however a new a priori bound on certain negative homogeneous Sobolev norms of solutions is obtained, which implies that any solution, even one which is initially "large" will eventually satisfy the smallness condition, and hence will have the above described asymptotic behavior  相似文献

In this paper we give a new convergence analysis of a projective scaling algorithm. We consider a long-step affine scaling algorithm applied to a homogeneous linear programming problem obtained from the original linear programming problem. This algorithm takes a fixed fraction λ≤2/3 of the way towards the boundary of the nonnegative orthant at each iteration. The iteration sequence for the original problem is obtained by pulling back the homogeneous iterates onto the original feasible region with a conical projection, which generates the same search direction as the original projective scaling algorithm at each iterate. The recent convergence results for the long-step affine scaling algorithm by the authors are applied to this algorithm to obtain some convergence results on the projective scaling algorithm. Specifically, we will show (i) polynomiality of the algorithm with complexities of O(nL) and O(n 2 L) iterations for λ<2/3 and λ=2/3, respectively; (ii) global covnergence of the algorithm when the optimal face is unbounded; (iii) convergence of the primal iterates to a relative interior point of the optimal face; (iv) convergence of the dual estimates to the analytic center of the dual optimal face; and (v) convergence of the reduction rate of the objective function value to 1−λ.  相似文献

A numerical method based on quintic B-spline has been developed to solve the linear and nonlinear Fredholm and Volterra integro-differential equations up to order 4. The solution and its derivatives are collocated by quintic B-spline and then the integral equation is approximated by the 4-points Gauss–Turán quadrature formula with respect to the weight function Legendre. The error analysis of proposed numerical method is studied theoretically. Numerical results are given to illustrate the efficiency of the proposed method which shows that our method can be applied for large values of N. The results are compared with the results obtained by other methods which show that our method is accurate.  相似文献

We introduce a hybrid Gegenbauer (ultraspherical) integration method (HGIM) for solving boundary value problems (BVPs), integral and integro-differential equations. The proposed approach recasts the original problems into their integral formulations, which are then discretized into linear systems of algebraic equations using Gegenbauer integration matrices (GIMs). The resulting linear systems are well-conditioned and can be easily solved using standard linear system solvers. A study on the error bounds of the proposed method is presented, and the spectral convergence is proven for two-point BVPs (TPBVPs). Comparisons with other competitive methods in the recent literature are included. The proposed method results in an efficient algorithm, and spectral accuracy is verified using eight test examples addressing the aforementioned classes of problems. The proposed method can be applied on a broad range of mathematical problems while producing highly accurate results. The developed numerical scheme provides a viable alternative to other solution methods when high-order approximations are required using only a relatively small number of solution nodes.  相似文献

We deal with linear multi-step methods for SDEs and study when the numerical approximation shares asymptotic properties in the mean-square sense of the exact solution. As in deterministic numerical analysis we use a linear time-invariant test equation and perform a linear stability analysis. Standard approaches used either to analyse deterministic multi-step methods or stochastic one-step methods do not carry over to stochastic multi-step schemes. In order to obtain sufficient conditions for asymptotic mean-square stability of stochastic linear two-step-Maruyama methods we construct and apply Lyapunov-type functionals. In particular we study the asymptotic mean-square stability of stochastic counterparts of two-step Adams–Bashforth- and Adams–Moulton-methods, the Milne–Simpson method and the BDF method. The oldest concept of unconditional stability of numerical integration methods for ordinary differential systems is that ofA-stability. This concept is related to linear systems having constant coefficients and has been introduced by Dahlquist in 1963. More recently, since another contribution of Dahlquist in 1975, there has been much interest in unconditional stability properties of numerical integration methods when applied to non-linear dissipative systems (G-stability,BN-stability,A-contractivity). Various classes of implicit Runge-Kutta methods have already been shown to beBN-stable. However, contrary to the property ofA-stability, when implementing such a method for practical use this unconditional stability property may be lost. The present note clarifies this for a class of diagonally implicit methods and shows at the same time that Rosenbrock's method is notBN-stable.  相似文献

This paper studies the stability and convergence properties of general Runge-Kutta methods when they are applied to stiff semilinear systems y(t) = J(t)y(t) + g(t, y(t)) with the stiffness contained in the variable coefficient linear part.We consider two assumptions on the relative variation of the matrix J(t) and show that for each of them there is a family of implicit Runge-Kutta methods that is suitable for the numerical integration of the corresponding stiff semilinear systems, i.e. the methods of the family are stable, convergent and the stage equations possess a unique solution. The conditions on the coefficients of a method to belong to these families turn out to be essentially weaker than the usual algebraic stability condition which appears in connection with the B-stability and convergence for stiff nonlinear systems. Thus there are important RK methods which are not algebraically stable but, according to our theory, they are suitable for the numerical integration of semilinear problems. This paper also extends previous results of Burrage, Hundsdorfer and Verwer on the optimal convergence of implicit Runge-Kutta methods for stiff semilinear systems with a constant coefficients linear part.  相似文献
