Let C be an algebraic curve defined over a number field K, of positive genus and without K-rational points. We conjecture that there exists some extension field L over which C has points everywhere locally but not globally. We show that our conjecture holds for all but finitely many Shimura curves of the form X 0 D (N)/ℚ or X 1 D (N)/ℚ, where D > 1 and N are coprime squarefree positive integers. The proof uses a variation on a theorem of Frey, a gonality bound of Abramovich, and an analysis of local points of small degree.  相似文献

Conditionally on the ABC conjecture, we apply work of Granville to show that a hyperelliptic curve C/Q of genus at least three has infinitely many quadratic twists that violate the Hasse Principle iff it has no Q-rational hyperelliptic branch points.  相似文献

We introduce the notion of a Brauer-Manin obstruction for sections of the fundamental group extension and establish Grothendieck’s section conjecture for an open subset of the Reichardt-Lind curve.  相似文献

Gauss’s hypergeometric function gives periods of elliptic curves in Legendre normal form. Certain truncations of this hypergeometric function give the Hasse invariants for these curves. Here we study another form, which we call the Clausen form, and we prove that certain truncations of and in $\mathbb {F}_{p}[x]$ are related to the characteristic p Hasse invariants.  相似文献

In (Letter to J.-P. Serre, 12 June 1991) Colliot-Thélène conjectures the following: Let F be a function field in one variable over a number field, with field of constants k and G be a semisimple simply connected linear algebraic group defined over F. Then the map has trivial kernel, denoting the set of places of k.The conjecture is true if G is of type 1A∗, i.e., isomorphic to SL1(A) for a central simple algebra A over F of square free index, as pointed out by Colliot-Thélène, being an immediate consequence of the theorems of Merkurjev-Suslin [S1] and Kato [K]. Gille [G] proves the conjecture if G is defined over k and F=k(t), the rational function field in one variable over k. We prove that the conjecture is true for groups G defined over k of the types 2A∗, Bn, Cn, Dn (D4 nontrialitarian), G2 or F4; a group is said to be of type 2A∗, if it is isomorphic to SU(B,τ) for a central simple algebra B of square free index over a quadratic extension k′ of k with a unitary k′|k involution τ.  相似文献

Let F be a field of characteristic ≠ 2 such that is of cohomological 2- and 3-dimension ≤ 2. For G a simply connected group of type 3 D 4 or 6 D 4 over F, we show that the natural map
where Ω F is the set of orderings of F and F v denotes the completion of F at v, restricts to be injective on the image of H 1(F, Z(G)) in H 1(F, G). For F not formally real, this implies that Serre's “Conjecture II” [Ser.94,III.3.1] holds for such groups if and only if trialitarian groups are classified by their Tits algebras over F. We construct an Enriques surface X over Q with empty étale-Brauer set (and hence no rational points) for which there is no algebraic Brauer–Manin obstruction to the Hasse principle. In addition, if there is a transcendental obstruction on X, then we obtain a K3 surface that has a transcendental obstruction to the Hasse principle.  相似文献

In 1985 Kazuya Kato formulated a fascinating framework of conjectures which generalizes the Hasse principle for the Brauer group of a global field to the so-called cohomological Hasse principle for an arithmetic scheme X. In this paper we prove the prime-to-characteristic part of the cohomological Hasse principle. We also explain its implications on finiteness of motivic cohomology and special values of zeta functions.  相似文献

LetA be an abelian variety defined over a number fieldK. Assume that the Tate-Shafarevich group is finite. We prove that the condition that the topological closure ofA (K) in is open is equivalent to the condition that the Brauer-Manin obstruction is the only obstruction to weak approximation.  相似文献

Let C be an elliptic curve defined over Q. Let p be a prime where C has good reduction. By definition, p is anomalous for C if the Hasse invariant at p is congruent to 1 modulo p. The phenomenon of anomalous primes has been shown by Mazur to be of great interest in the study of rational points in towers of number fields. This paper is devoted to discussing the Hasse invariants and the anomalous primes of elliptic curves admitting complex multiplication. The two special cases Y2 = X3 + a4X and Y2 = X3 + a6 are studied at considerable length. As corollaries, some results in elementary number theory concerning the residue classes of the binomial coefficients (n2n) (Resp. (n3n)) modulo a prime p = 4n + 1 (resp. p = 6n + 1) are obtained. It is shown that certain classes of elliptic curves admitting complex multiplication do not have any anomalous primes and that others admit only very few anomalous primes.  相似文献

In Behravesh (J Lond Math Soc 55(2):251–260, 1997), c(G), q(G) and p(G) are defined for a finite group G. In this paper, we will calculate c(G), q(G) and p(G) for some 2-groups G satisfying the Hasse principle in Fuma and Ninomiya (Math J Okayama Univ 46:31–38, 2004). We will consider
$G=\langle x, y, z: x^{2^{m-2}}=y^{2}=z^2=1, [x, y]=[y, z]=1, x^{z}=xy \rangle$
where m ≥ 4. By comparing the character tables and Galois conjugacy classes of Irr(G) and Irr(Z(G)), we will show that
$c(G)=q(G)=p(G)= 2c(Z(G))=2^{m-2}+4.$
