A circular distribution is a Galois equivariant map ψ from the roots of unity μ to an algebraic closure of such that ψ satisfies product conditions, for ϵμ and , and congruence conditions for each prime number l and with (l, s) = 1, modulo primes over l for all , where μ l and μ s denote respectively the sets of lth and sth roots of unity. For such ψ, let be the group generated over by and let be , where U s denotes the global units of . We give formulas for the indices and of and inside the circular numbers P s and units C s of Sinnott over . We consider the following problem. A set of vectors is given. We want to find the convex combination such that the statistical median of z is maximum. In the application that we have in mind, are the historical return arrays of asset j and are the portfolio weights. Maximizing the median on a convex set of arrays is a continuous non-differentiable, non-concave optimization problem and it can be shown that the problem belongs to the APX-hard difficulty class. As a consequence, we are sure that no polynomial time algorithm can ever solve the model, unless P = NP. We propose an implicit enumeration algorithm, in which bounds on the objective function are calculated using continuous geometric properties of the median. Computational results are reported.  相似文献

The main result of this work is a Dancer-type bifurcation result for the quasilinear elliptic problem
((P))
Here, Ω is a bounded domain in denotes the Dirichlet p-Laplacian on , and is a spectral parameter. Let μ1 denote the first (smallest) eigenvalue of −Δ p . Under some natural hypotheses on the perturbation function , we show that the trivial solution is a bifurcation point for problem (P) and, moreover, there are two distinct continua, and , consisting of nontrivial solutions to problem (P) which bifurcate from the set of trivial solutions at the bifurcation point (0, μ1). The continua and are either both unbounded in E, or else their intersection contains also a point other than (0, μ1). For the semilinear problem (P) (i.e., for p = 2) this is a classical result due to E. N. Dancer from 1974. We also provide an example of how the union looks like (for p > 2) in an interesting particular case. Our proofs are based on very precise, local asymptotic analysis for λ near μ1 (for any 1 < p < ∞) which is combined with standard topological degree arguments from global bifurcation theory used in Dancer’s original work. We consider the computation of stable approximations to the exact solution of nonlinear ill-posed inverse problems F(x) = y with nonlinear operators F : XY between two Hilbert spaces X and Y by the Newton type methods
in the case that only available data is a noise of y satisfying with a given small noise level . We terminate the iteration by the discrepancy principle in which the stopping index is determined as the first integer such that
with a given number τ > 1. Under certain conditions on {α k }, {g α } and F, we prove that converges to as and establish various order optimal convergence rate results. It is remarkable that we even can show the order optimality under merely the Lipschitz condition on the Fréchet derivative F′ of F if is smooth enough.  相似文献

Let k be a finite field of characteristic p, l a prime number different from p, a nontrivial additive character, and a character on . Then ψ defines an Artin-Schreier sheaf on the affine line , and χ defines a Kummer sheaf on the n-dimensional torus . Let be a Laurent polynomial. It defines a k-morphism . In this paper, we calculate the weights of under some non-degeneracy conditions on f. Our results can be used to estimate sums of the form

We consider the maximization for a given symmetric . It was shown recently, using properties of zonotopes and hyperplane arrangements, that in the special case that A has a small rank, so that A = VV T where with m < n, then there exists a polynomial time algorithm (polynomial in n for a given m) to solve the problem . In this paper, we use this result, as well as a spectral decomposition of A to obtain a sequence of non-increasing upper bounds on γ with no constraints on the rank of A. We also give easily computable necessary and sufficient conditions for the absence of a gap between the solution and its upper bound. Finally, we incorporate the semidefinite relaxation upper bound into our scheme and give an illustrative example.  相似文献

We consider one-dimensional difference Schr?dinger equations with real analytic function V(x). Suppose V(x) is a small perturbation of a trigonometric polynomial V 0(x) of degree k 0, and assume positive Lyapunov exponents and Diophantine ω. We prove that the integrated density of states is H?lder continuous for any k > 0. Moreover, we show that is absolutely continuous for a.e. ω. Our approach is via finite volume bounds. I.e., we study the eigenvalues of the problem on a finite interval [1, N] with Dirichlet boundary conditions. Then the averaged number of these Dirichlet eigenvalues which fall into an interval , does not exceed , k > 0. Moreover, for , this averaged number does not exceed exp , for any . For the integrated density of states of the problem this implies that for any . To investigate the distribution of the Dirichlet eigenvalues of on a finite interval [1, N] we study the distribution of the zeros of the characteristic determinants with complexified phase x, and frozen ω, E. We prove equidistribution of these zeros in some annulus and show also that no more than 2k 0 of them fall into any disk of radius exp. In addition, we obtain the lower bound (with δ > 0 arbitrary) for the separation of the eigenvalues of the Dirichlet eigenvalues over the interval [0, N]. This necessarily requires the removal of a small set of energies. Received: February 2006, Accepted: December 2007  相似文献

Let be the generalized integers n j associated with a set of generalized primes p i in Beurling’s sense. On the basis of the general mean-value theorems, established in our previous work, for multiplicative function f(n j ) defined on , we prove extensions, in functional form and in mean-value form, of the Elliott–Daboussi theorem to high order mean-values. For the main result, let α,ρ, and τ be positive real constants such that α > 1,ρ≥1 and . Then a multiplicative function f satisfies the following conditions, with some constant , (1) All four series
converge and (2)
if and only if the order τρ mean-value

exists with . The proof is deduced from an intrinsic connection between m f and . An erratum to this article can be found at  相似文献

We consider the problem
where Ω is a bounded smooth domain in , 1  <  p< + ∞ if N = 2, if N ≥ 3 and ε is a parameter. We show that if the mean curvature of ∂Ω is not constant then, for ε small enough, such a problem has always a nodal solution u ε with one positive peak and one negative peak on the boundary. Moreover, and converge to and , respectively, as ε goes to zero. Here, H denotes the mean curvature of ∂Ω. Moreover, if Ω is a ball and , we prove that for ε small enough the problem has nodal solutions with two positive peaks on the boundary and arbitrarily many negative peaks on the boundary. Pseudomonotone maps are a generalization of paramonotone maps which is very closely related to the cutting plane property in variational inequality problems (VIP). In this paper, we first generalize the so-called minimum principle sufficiency and the maximum principle sufficiency for VIP with multivalued maps. Then we show that pseudomonotonicity of the map implies the “maximum principle sufficiency” and, in fact, is equivalent to it in a sense. We then present two applications of pseudomonotone maps. First we show that pseudomonotone maps can be used instead of the much more restricted class of pseudomonotone+ maps in a cutting plane method. Finally, an application to a proximal point method is given.   相似文献

An extension of the auxiliary problem principle to variational inequalities with non-symmetric multi-valued operators in Hilbert spaces is studied. This extension concerns the case that the operator is split into the sum of a single-valued operator , possessing a kind of pseudo Dunn property, and a maximal monotone operator . The current auxiliary problem is k constructed by fixing at the previous iterate, whereas (or its single-valued approximation k) k is considered at a variable point. Using auxiliary operators of the form k+ , with k>0, the standard for the auxiliary problem principle assumption of the strong convexity of the function h can be weakened exploiting mutual properties of and h. Convergence of the general scheme is analyzed and some applications are sketched briefly.  相似文献

Solutions of elliptic problems with nonlinearities of linear growth   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
In this paper, we study existence of nontrivial solutions to the elliptic equation
and to the elliptic system
where Ω is a bounded domain in with smooth boundary ∂Ω, , f (x, 0) = 0, with m ≥ 2 and . Nontrivial solutions are obtained in the case in which the nonlinearities have linear growth. That is, for some c > 0, for and , and for and , where I m is the m × m identity matrix. In sharp contrast to the existing results in the literature, we do not make any assumptions at infinity on the asymptotic behaviors of the nonlinearity f and . Z. Let H olenote a complex separable Hilbert space and L(H) denote the collection of bounded linear operators on H. An operator T ∈ L(H) is said to be strongly irreducible if T does not commute with any nontrivial idempotent. Herrero and Jiang showed that the norm-closure of the class of all strongly irreducible operators is the class of all operators with connected spectrum. This result can be considered as an approximate inverse of the Riesz decomposition theorem. In the paper, we give a more precise charact...  相似文献

Let A be an elliptic operator on a compact manifold with boundary , and let be a covering map, where Y is a closed manifold. Let A C be a realization of A subject to a coupling condition C that is elliptic with parameter in the sector Λ. By a coupling condition we mean a nonlocal boundary condition that respects the covering structure of the boundary. We prove that the resolvent trace for N sufficiently large has a complete asymptotic expansion as . In particular, the heat trace has a complete asymptotic expansion as , and the -function has a meromorphic extension to .   相似文献

Another hybrid conjugate gradient algorithm is subject to analysis. The parameter β k is computed as a convex combination of (Hestenes-Stiefel) and (Dai-Yuan) algorithms, i.e. . The parameter θ k in the convex combination is computed in such a way so that the direction corresponding to the conjugate gradient algorithm to be the Newton direction and the pair (s k , y k ) to satisfy the quasi-Newton equation , where and . The algorithm uses the standard Wolfe line search conditions. Numerical comparisons with conjugate gradient algorithms show that this hybrid computational scheme outperforms the Hestenes-Stiefel and the Dai-Yuan conjugate gradient algorithms as well as the hybrid conjugate gradient algorithms of Dai and Yuan. A set of 750 unconstrained optimization problems are used, some of them from the CUTE library.   相似文献

We consider the 2m-th order elliptic boundary value problem Lu = f (x, u) on a bounded smooth domain with Dirichlet boundary conditions on ∂Ω. The operator L is a uniformly elliptic operator of order 2m given by . For the nonlinearity we assume that , where are positive functions and q > 1 if N ≤ 2m, if N > 2m. We prove a priori bounds, i.e, we show that for every solution u, where C > 0 is a constant. The solutions are allowed to be sign-changing. The proof is done by a blow-up argument which relies on the following new Liouville-type theorem on a half-space: if u is a classical, bounded, non-negative solution of ( − Δ) m u  =  u q in with Dirichlet boundary conditions on and q > 1 if N ≤ 2m, if N > 2m then .   相似文献
