Bulk single crystals of l-alanine formate of 10 mm diameter and 50 mm length have been grown with an aid of modified Sankaranarayanan-Ramasamy (SR) uniaxial crystal growth method within a period of ten days. The optical properties of the grown crystal were calculated from UV transmission spectral analysis. The second harmonic generation efficiency of the grown crystal was confirmed by Kurtz powder test. In order to determine the mechanical strength of the crystal, Vicker’s microhardness test was carried along the growth plane (0 0 1). Dielectric studies reveal that both dielectric constant and dielectric loss decreases with increase in frequency. Photoconductivity study confirms the negative photoconducting nature of the crystal.  相似文献

<0 0 1> directed good quality potassium dihydrogen phosphate (KDP) single crystal has been grown by Sankaranarayanan–Ramasamy (SR) method with the vision to improve the crystalline perfection and efficiency. A seed crystal of diameter 25 × 15 × 3 mm3 was mounted in the ampoule, where the diameter of the ampoule was much bigger than the seed. The size of the crystal grown was 30 × 20 × 60 mm3. The obtained transparency for the crystal grown by SR method is 93% and by conventional method is 85% in the entire visible region. The HRXRD analysis indicates that the crystalline perfections of the crystals are excellent without having any very internal structural grain boundaries. The obtained FWHM for conventional method grown crystal is 12 arc s and for SR method is 6 arc s. Low dielectric loss indicates that the <0 0 1> directed crystal contains minimum defects. Higher mechanical stability was observed in SR method grown KDP compared to the other. Laser damage threshold value has been determined using Nd:YAG laser operating at 1064 nm. The optical transmission study and the powder SHG measurement show the suitability of the ingot for nonlinear optical applications.  相似文献

Good quality ammonium dihydrogen phosphate single crystals have been grown by: (i) Sankaranarayanan–Ramasamy (SR) method and (ii) SR method with slotted ampoule. The grown crystals were subjected to UV–Vis spectroscopy, high-resolution X-ray diffractometer, dielectric, piezoelectric and laser damage threshold studies. Compared to the (1 0 0) plane of the conventional method grown ADP crystal and 〈1 0 0〉 directed SR method grown ADP crystal, the crystal grown by SR method with slotted ampoule has higher growth rate, higher optical transparency, high crystalline perfection, low dielectric loss, high piezoelectric charge coefficient and high laser damage threshold due to diffusion of segregated impurities away from the growing crystal in the slotted ampoule growth.  相似文献

Single crystals of l-histidine nitrate (LHN), a recently investigated nonlinear optical material, were grown by conventional solution technique. Crystal structure and vibrational modes of the grown crystals were confirmed by powder X-ray diffractometry and FT-Raman spectrometry, respectively. Crystalline perfection of the grown crystals was evaluated by employing an in-house developed high-resolution X-ray diffractometer (HRXRD) and it was found that the grown crystals were free from structural grain boundaries and the perfection was reasonably good. However, HRXRD could reveal the fact that the crystals contain predominantly the interstitial point defects. The birefringence was measured over a range of wavelength between 5480 and 5630 Å and it was found that its value is nearly constant and 10 times higher than that of KDP. The optical band gap was found to be ∼3.73 eV. The photoluminescence excitation and emission spectra for single crystals were recorded. The SHG efficiencies of LHN samples of different particle sizes were measured by the Kurtz and Perry technique and they removed the ambiguity in the values reported differently in the literature. Dielectric properties were studied as a function of temperature over a wide range of frequency. The optical and dielectric studies along with the crystalline perfection reveal that the LHN crystal could be a good candidate for nonlinear optical devices.  相似文献

Bulk semi-organic single crystals of l-lysine l-lysinium dichloride nitrate (l-LLDN) were grown by Sankaranarayanan-Ramasamy (SR) method. The experimental parameters involved in the present work are discussed in detail. The cut-off wavelength and the transmittance of the crystal were determined by UV-vis-NIR spectral analysis. Mechanical stability of the crystal was determined by Vickers microhardness tester. Refractive index of the crystal was measured using Brewster’s angle method. A simple interferometric technique was used for measuring birefringence of the crystal. The frequency dependent dielectric constant (εr) and dielectric loss (tan δ) were also measured. The results were analyzed for the l-LLDN crystals grown by both conventional and unidirectional methods.  相似文献

Nonlinear optical single crystals of picolinium maleate (PM) were grown by slow evaporation method. The grown crystal was subjected to single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis to confirm that the crystal belongs to the monoclinic crystal structure with space group P21/c. The optical transmission range of the grown crystal was measured by UV–Vis–NIR region with the lower cut-off wavelength as 330 nm. The optical bandgap is found to be 3.75 eV. Mechanical strength of the grown crystal was analyzed using Vickers microhardness tester. Dielectric constant and dielectric loss of picolinium maleate are measured in the frequency range from 50 Hz to 5 MHz at different temperatures. Further, electronic properties, such as valence electron plasma energy, Penn gap, Fermi energy and electronic polarizability of the grown crystal have been estimated.  相似文献

Pure and 0.1 mol% Xylenol orange (XO) doped Imidazolium L-tartrate (IMLT) nonlinear optical (NLO) single crystals were grown using Sankaranarayanan–Ramasamy (SR) method of uniaxial solution crystallization technique. The pure IMLT crystal is 100 mm in length and 15 mm in diameter. The doped IMLT crystal is 25 mm in length and 10 mm in diameter. UV–Vis-NIR spectrum shows that the pure and XO doped IMLT crystals' cut off wavelength is 235 nm. High-resolution X-ray diffraction (HRXRD) measurement and birefringence interferometry confirm that the SR method grown crystal has good crystalline perfection and optical homogeneity. The wavelength dependent refractive index and piezoelectric d33 coefficient were measured. The difference refractive index (Δn) of (100) plane in parallel and perpendicular directions shows a strong dependence on wavelength. The dielectric constant, hardness and SHG conversion efficiency were also increased as a result of XO dye doping in IMLT crystal.  相似文献

The bulk single crystal of l-arginine 4-nitrophenolate 4-nitrophenol dihydrate (LAPP), an efficient organic NLO material of size 74 mm in length, 18 mm in diameter, was grown successfully by Sankaranarayanan–Ramasamy (SR) method. Single crystal X-ray diffraction study reveals that LAPP crystallizes into monoclinic system with the space group P21. The unidirectional growth along the plane (1 1 0) was confirmed from the powder XRD pattern with the sharp peak having maximum intensity. Optical absorption spectrum shows that LAPP has highly transparent in the entire visible and IR region with a wide band gap of 3.9 eV for large photon absorption. Vickers micro hardness measurement was performed to know the mechanical strength of the crystal. Dielectric profile of LAPP at room temperature brings forth low value of dielectric loss and dielectric constant at higher frequencies. Photoluminescence study reveals that LAPP exhibit green emission in the wavelength region 538 nm. The SHG efficiency of the crystal is measured by Kurtz's powder test using Nd:YAG Laser.  相似文献

An efficient nonlinear optical single crystal of 2-phenylethylammonium p-hydroxybenzoate (2PPHB) was grown from aqueous solution by slow evaporation solution growth method. Single crystal X-ray diffraction studies confirmed that 2PPHB crystallizes in orthorhombic crystal system with non-centrosymmetric space group of Pna21. The presence of functional groups in the synthesized compound was identified by FTIR spectral analysis. The grown crystals were thermally stable up to 155 °C. UV–vis absorption, photoluminescence and birefringence optical properties of grown crystal were explored. The laser induced surface damage threshold and relative second harmonic generation properties of the grown crystal were studied using Q-switched Nd:YAG laser. The variation of dielectric properties of the grown crystal with frequency was investigated for different temperatures. The mechanical response of the crystal was studied by Vicker's microhardness technique.  相似文献

Single crystals of 2-aminomethylpyridinium picrate (2-AMPP) were grown by slow evaporation-solution growth technique at room temperature. The cell and structural parameters of the grown crystal were determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The characteristic functional groups in the compound were identified from Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The transmission and absorption spectra of this crystal show that the lower cut-off wavelength lies at 360 nm. Thermal analysis was performed to study the thermal stability of the grown crystal. The powder second harmonic generation efficiency of the grown crystal measured by Kurtz technique is 2 times efficient than potassium dihydrogen orthophosphate (KDP). Vicker's microhardness test showed that the hardness value increases with increasing the applied load up to 50 g. The dielectric measurements of the compound in the frequency region from 50 Hz to 5 MHz showed that the material has lesser defects and can be used for optical application.  相似文献

Pure and l-alanine (LA) doped single crystals of potassium dihydrogen orthophosphate (KDP) were grown by slow evaporation solution technique (SEST) in aqueous solution at ambient temperature. Powder X-ray diffraction study was done to confirm the crystal system and lattice parameters of KDP. No additional phases were observed at all doping concentrations (1-7.5 mol%), which was further confirmed by FT-Raman spectroscopy analysis. The influence of LA doping on the crystalline perfection was assessed by high-resolution X-ray diffractometry (HRXRD) analysis. HRXRD studies revealed that the grown crystals could accommodate LA at the interstitial positions in the crystalline matrix of KDP up to some critical concentration without any deterioration in the crystalline perfection. Above this concentration, very low angle structural grain boundaries were developed and it seems that the excess LA above the critical concentration was segregated along the grain boundaries. The SHG efficiency was measured using the Kurtz powder technique. The relative SHG efficiency of the crystals was found to be increased with doping concentration up to 5 mol% and above this it decreases. Optical transmission study also revealed the same behavior with enhancement up to 5 mol% concentration and later decreased. The hardness values were found to be increased by increasing the doping concentration.  相似文献

A nonlinear optical bimetallic thiocyanate complex crystal, cadmium manganese thiocyanate (CMTC) has been successfully synthesized. The growth of single crystals of cadmium manganese thiocyanate has been accomplished from aqueous solution using slow evaporation method. The presence of manganese and cadmium in the synthesized material was confirmed through energy dispersive spectrum (EDS) analysis. Structural analysis was carried out using powder X-ray diffractometer (PXRD) and crystalline perfection of the grown crystals was ascertained by high-resolution X-ray diffraction (HRXRD) analysis. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrum was taken to confirm the functional groups. The transmittance spectrum of the crystal in the UV–visible region has been recorded and the cutoff wavelength has been determined. The dielectric measurements for the crystals were performed for various frequencies and temperatures. The mechanical properties were evaluated by Vickers microhardness testing, which reveals hardness and stiffness constant of the crystals.  相似文献

Single crystals of tyrosine-doped glycine (TRG) were successfully grown by slow evaporation technique at room temperature. Crystals of TRG were obtained in a period of 30 days. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis reveals that the crystal belongs to monoclinic system with non-centrosymmetric space group of p21. The presence of functional groups was estimated by Fourier transform infra-red (FTIR) analysis. The optical cut-off wavelength for this crystal was observed by UV–vis absorbance spectra. Electrical measurements (dielectric, AC conductivity) were carried out at temperatures 40, 80, and 120 °C. The results indicate that the values of dielectric constant and dielectric loss are less at higher frequencies.  相似文献

Low solubility potassium pentaborate tetrahydrate (KB5), ammonium pentaborate tetrahydrate (AB5) and mixed (KAB5) single crystals have been grown by the Sankaranarayanan-Ramasamy (SR) method. The crystal structures and space groups have been confirmed by powder XRD analysis. The direction of the grown crystal was confirmed by the back reflection X-ray Laue pattern. The crystalline perfection (CP) of the crystals have been evaluated using HRXRD studies. The transmittance spectra of the grown crystals were recorded by UV–Vis-NIR transmission studies showing that all the crystals have 90% transmittance in the entire visible region and found that the crystals' cut off wavelengths were below 200 nm. The optical studies such as refractive index (RI) and birefringence interferometry (BI) were reported. The RI for five different wavelengths of KB5, AB5 and KAB5 crystals were analyzed using the prism coupling method (PCM). Electromechanical behavior of the grown crystals was observed using piezoelectric coefficient (d33) measurement. Vickers Microhardness (VMH) measurement carried out at 30 °C shows increased hardness as the load increases.  相似文献

Single crystals of pure and potassium iodide (KI)-doped zinc tris-thiourea sulphate (ZTS) were grown from aqueous solutions by the slow evaporation method. The grown crystals were transparent. The lattice parameters of the grown crystals were determined by the single-crystal X-ray diffraction technique. The grown crystals were also characterized by recording the powder X-ray diffraction pattern and by identifying the diffracting planes. The FT-IR spectrum was recorded in the range 400-4500 cm−1. Second harmonic generation (SHG) was confirmed by the Kurtz powder method. The thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential thermal analysis (DTA) studies reveal that the materials have good thermal stability. Atomic absorption studies confirm the presence of dopant in ZTS crystals. The electrical measurements were made in the frequency range 102-106 Hz and in the temperature range 40-130 °C along a-, b- and c-directions of the grown crystals. The present study shows that the electrical parameters viz. dc conductivity, dielectric constant, dielectric loss factor and ac conductivity increase with increase in temperature. Activation energy values were also determined for the ac conduction process in grown crystals. The dc conductivity, dielectric constant, dielectric loss factor and ac conductivity of KI-doped ZTS crystal were found to be more than those of pure ZTS crystals.  相似文献
