A detailed variational formulation is provided for a simplified strain gradient elasticity theory by using the principle of minimum total potential energy. This leads to the simultaneous determination of the equilibrium equations and the complete boundary conditions of the theory for the first time. To supplement the stress-based formulation, the coordinate-invariant displacement form of the simplified strain gradient elasticity theory is also derived anew. In view of the lack of a consistent and complete formulation, derivation details are included for the tutorial purpose. It is shown that both the stress and displacement forms of the simplified strain gradient elasticity theory obtained reduce to their counterparts in classical elasticity when the strain gradient effect (a measure of the underlying material microstructure) is not considered. As a direct application of the newly obtained displacement form of the theory, the problem of a pressurized thick-walled cylinder is analytically solved. The solution contains a material length scale parameter and can account for microstructural effects, which is qualitatively different from Lamé’s solution in classical elasticity. In the absence of the strain gradient effect, this strain gradient elasticity solution reduces to Lamé’s solution. The numerical results reveal that microstructural effects can be large and Lamé’s solution may not be accurate for materials exhibiting significant microstructure dependence.  相似文献

The problem about the motion of a pressure pulse at constant velocity along the boundary of an elastic homogeneous half-plane has been examined in [1–3]. The problem was considered as stationary in [1, 2], while in [3] it was solved by using a Laplace time transformation. An analogous problem is considered in this paper for an elastic half-plane with variable Lamé parameters and density of the medium.  相似文献

The Lamé problem is solved for a body with cubic symmetry of elastic properties and the elastic anisotropy parameter is determined. In the case of plane deformation, the stresses in a ring are found to terms of the first order in the small anisotropic parameter. Stresses in a ring of KCl under internal pressure are calculated.  相似文献

We consider the in-plane bifurcations experienced by the Lamé solutions corresponding to an elastic annulus subjected to radial tension on the curved boundaries. Numerical investigations of the relevant incremental problem reveal two main bifurcation modes: a long-wave local deformation around the central hole of the domain, or a material wrinkling-type instability along the same boundary. Strictly speaking, the latter scenario is related to the violation of the Shapiro–Lopatinskij condition in an appropriate traction boundary-value problem. It is further shown that the main features of this material instability mode can be found by using a singular-perturbation strategy.  相似文献

We consider a Cauchy–Dirichlet problem for the isotropic Lamé system with variable coefficients. We find an estimate for the L2 -norm of the surface traction in terms of the initial data and the body force. Then we show that, in absence of body forces, the elastic energy can be controlled by the L2 -norm of the surface traction exerted on a suitable sub-boundary, provided that the time interval is sufficiently large. These inequalities are basic for the applicability of the so-called HUM (Hilbert Uniqueness Method) and they can also be used to solve an inverse source problem for the Lamé system.  相似文献

We integrate the Lamé equation and find new solutions in the case of three-dimensional elasticity theory, which are expressed in terms of harmonic functions. We prove that the solution obtained involves only three independent functions. In a curvilinear orthogonal coordinate system, a general solution of the Lamé equation is expressed in terms of three harmonic functions. __________ Translated from Neliniini Kolyvannya, Vol. 9, No. 1, pp. 109–116, January–March, 2006.  相似文献

The three-dimensional axisymmetric Boussinesq problem of an isotropic half-space subjected to a concentrated normal quasi-static load is studied within the framework of dipolar gradient elasticity involving linear constitutive relations and small strains. Our main concern is to determine possible deviations from the predictions of classical linear elastostatics when a more refined theory is employed to attack the problem. Of special importance is the behavior of the new solution near to the point of application of the load where pathological singularities exist in the classical solution. The use of the theory of gradient elasticity is intended here to model the response of materials with microstructure in a manner that the classical theory cannot afford. A linear version of this theory (as regards both kinematics and constitutive response) results by considering a linear isotropic expression for the strain-energy density that depends on strain gradient terms, in addition to the standard strain terms appearing in classical elasticity and by considering small strains. Through this formulation, a microstructural material constant is introduced, in addition to the standard Lamé constants. The solution method is based on integral transforms and is exact. The present results show significant departure from the predictions of classical elasticity. Indeed, continuous and bounded displacements are predicted at the points of application of the concentrated load. Such a behavior of the displacement field is, of course, more natural than the singular behavior exhibited in the classical solution.  相似文献

The purpose of this research is to investigate the effects of material inhomogeneity on the response of linearly elastic isotropic hollow circular cylinders or disks under uniform internal or external pressure. The work is motivated by the recent research activity on functionally graded materials (FGMs), i.e., materials with spatially varying properties tailored to satisfy particular engineering applications. The analog of the classic Lamé problem for a pressurized homogeneous isotropic hollow circular cylinder or disk is considered. The special case of a body with Young"s modulus depending on the radial coordinate only, and with constant Poisson"s ratio, is examined. It is shown that the stress response of the inhomogeneous cylinder (or disk) is significantly different from that of the homogeneous body. For example, the maximum hoop stress does not, in general, occur on the inner surface in contrast with the situation for the homogeneous material. The results are illustrated using a specific radially inhomogeneous material model for which explicit exact solutions are obtained. This revised version was published online in August 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

The three-dimensional Lamé equations are solved using Cartesian and curvilinear orthogonal coordinates. It is proved that the solution includes only three independent harmonic functions. The general solution of equations of elasticity for stresses is found. The stress tensor is expressed in both coordinate systems in terms of three harmonic functions. The general solution of the problem of elasticity in cylindrical coordinates is presented as an example. The three-dimensional stress–strain state of an elastic cylinder subjected, on the lateral surface, to arbitrary forces represented by a series of eigenfunctions is determined. An axisymmetric problem for a finite cylinder is solved numerically  相似文献

We perform the group foliation of the system of Lamé equations of the classical dynamical theory of elasticity for an infinite subgroup contained in a normal divisor of the main group. The resolving system of this foliation includes the following two classical systems of mathematical physics: the system of equations of vortex-free acoustics and the system of Maxwell equations, which allows one to use wider groups to obtain exact solutions of the Lamé equations. We obtain a first-order conformal-invariant system, which describes shear waves in a three-dimensional elastic medium. We also give examples of partially invariant solutions.  相似文献

The bending problem of a transverse load acting on an isotropic inhomogeneous rectangular plate using both two-dimensional (2-D) trigonometric and three-dimensional (3-D) elasticity solutions is considered. In the present 2-D solution, trigonometric terms are used for the displacements in addition to the initial terms of a power series through the thickness. The effects due to transverse shear and normal deformations are both included. The form of the assumed 2-D displacements is simplified by enforcing traction-free boundary conditions at the faces of the plate. No transverse shear correction factors are needed because a correct representation of the transverse shearing strain is given. The plate material is exponentially graded, meaning that Lamé’s coefficients vary exponentially in a given fixed direction (the thickness direction). A wide variety of results for the displacements and stresses of an exponentially graded rectangular plate are presented. The validity of the present 2-D trigonometric solution is demonstrated by comparison with the 3-D elasticity solution. The influence of aspect ratio, side-to-thickness ratio and the exponentially graded parameter on the bending response are investigated.  相似文献

This paper considers a two-dimensional linear unsteady problem of rigid-stamp indentation on an elastic layer of finite thickness lying on the surface of a compressible fluid of infinite depth. The Lamé equations holds for the elastic layer, and the wave equation for the fluid velocity potential. Using the Laplace and Fourier transforms, the problem is reduced to determining the contact stresses under the stamp from the solution of an integral equation of the first kind, whose kernel has a logarithmic singularity. An asymptotic solution of the problem is constructed for large times of interaction. __________ Translated from Prikladnaya Mekhanika i Tekhnicheskaya Fizika, Vol. 49, No. 2, pp. 131–142, March–April, 2008.  相似文献

Homogenization may change fundamentally the constitutive laws of materials. We show how a heterogeneous Cauchy continuum may lead to a non Cauchy continuum. We study the effective properties of a linear elastic medium reinforced periodically with thin parallel fibers made up of a much stronger linear elastic medium and we prove that, when the Lamé coefficients in the fibers and the radius of the fibers have appropriate order of magnitude, the effective material is a second gradient material, i.e. a material whose energy depends on the second gradient of the displacement.  相似文献

We study the homogenization of an elastic material in contact with periodic parallel elastic rectangular cross-section fibres of higher rigidity. The interactions between the matrix and the fibres are described by a local adhesion contact law with interfacial adhesive stiffness parameter depending on the period. Assuming that the Lamé constants in the fibres and the stiffness parameter have appropriate orders of magnitude, we derive a class of energy functionals involving extension, flexure and torsion terms.  相似文献

A model for predicting the strength of a cement sheath adjacent to a production wellbore without consideration of internal and temperature stresses is proposed based on solutions of the Lamé problems for one- and two-layer tubes and the Huber–Mises yield criterion using the model of a perfectly plastic isotropic body.  相似文献

The stress dependency of the porosity and permeability of porous rocks is described theoretically by representing the preferential flow paths in heterogeneous porous rocks by a bundle of tortuous cylindrical elastic tubes. A Lamé-type equation is applied to relate the radial displacement of the internal wall of the cylindrical elastic tubes and the porosity to the variation of the pore fluid pressure. The variation of the permeability of porous rocks by effective stress is determined by incorporating the radial displacement of the internal wall of the cylindrical elastic tubes into the Kozeny–Carman relationship. The fully analytical solutions of the mechanistic elastic pore-shell model developed by combining the Lamé and Kozeny–Carman equations are shown to lead to very accurate correlations of the stress dependency of both the porosity and the permeability of porous rocks.

We consider the system of elastostatics for an elastic medium consisting of an imperfection of small diameter, embedded in a homogeneous reference medium. The Lamé constants of the imperfection are different from those of the background medium. We establish a complete asymptotic formula for the displacement vector in terms of the reference Lamé constants, the location of the imperfection and its geometry. Our derivation is rigorous, and based on layer potential techniques. The asymptotic expansions in this paper are valid for an elastic imperfection with Lipschitz boundaries. In the course of derivation of the asymptotic formula, we introduce the concept of (generalized) elastic moment tensors (Pólya–Szegö tensor) and prove that the first order elastic moment tensor is symmetric and positive (negative)-definite. We also obtain estimation of its eigenvalue. We then apply these asymptotic formulas for the purpose of identifying with high precision the order of magnitude of the diameter of the elastic inclusion, its location, and its elastic moment tensors.  相似文献

External circumferential strains were measured on large thick-wall pressure vessels containing internal fatigue cracks, using bonded strain gages. When strains measured over the cracks become compressive they predict impending failure. Normalization by the Lamé strain relates them to the fraction of fatigue life consumed and provides estimates of longevity.  相似文献
