This article deals with a boundary value problem for Laplace equation with a non‐linear and non‐local boundary condition. This problem comes from petroleum engineering and is used to obtain an estimation of well productivity. The non‐linear and non‐local boundary condition is written on the well boundary. On the outer reservoir boundaries, we have both Dirichlet and Neumann conditions. In this paper, we prove the existence and uniqueness of a solution to this problem. The existence is proved by Schauder theorem and the uniqueness is obtained under more restricted conditions, when the involved operator is a contraction. In this paper we consider a boundary problem for a parameter-elliptic, multi-order system of differential equations defined over a bounded region in ${\mathbb{R}^n}$ and under Dirichlet boundary conditions. In addition, the problem is considered under limited smoothness assumptions. Information is then derived concerning the asymptotic behaviour of the eigenvalues of the Hilbert space operator, in general non-selfadjoint, induced by the boundary problem under null boundary conditions.  相似文献

In this study, we investigate a Sturm–Liouville type problem with eigenparameter‐dependent boundary conditions and eigenparameter‐dependent transmission conditions. By establishing a new self‐adjoint operator A associated with the problem, we construct fundamental solutions and obtain asymptotic formulae for its eigenvalues and fundamental solutions. Also we investigate some properties of its spectrum. Copyright © 2013 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Two stationary plane free boundary value problems for the Navier‐Stokes equations are studied. The first problem models the viscous two‐fluid flow down a perturbed or slightly distorted inclined plane. The second one describes the viscous two‐fluid flow in a perturbed or slightly distorted channel. For sufficiently small data and under certain conditions on parameters the solvability and uniqueness results are proved for both problems. The asymptotic behaviour of the solutions is investigated. For the second problem an example of nonuniqueness is constructed. Computational results of flow problems that are very close to the above problems are presented. (© 2005 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. In this paper, we are concerned with the inverse Sturm–Liouville problem with polynomially dependent eigenparameter in discontinuity and boundary conditions. By using a self‐adjoint operator‐theoretic interpretation for this sort of problem, Ambarzumyan theorem is provided for the mentioned Sturm–Liouville operator. The main object under consideration in the paper is the second derivative operator on a finite interval with zero boundary conditions perturbed by a self‐adjoint integral operator with the degenerate kernel (non‐local potential). The inverse problem, i.e., the reconstruction of the perturbation from the spectral data, is solved by means of the step‐by‐step procedure based on the n‐interlacing property of the spectrum.  相似文献

The goal of this work is to study the static behaviour of a three‐dimensional elastic beam when is subjected to a three‐point bending test. In the first part, under suitable compatibility conditions on the applied forces and on the geometry of the beam, we will prove the existence of a unique solution for the associated contact elastic problem; these conditions of compatibility on the data come from the absence of a Dirichlet condition on the beam boundary. In the second part, we will study the asymptotic behaviour of this problem; in particular, we will deduce the one‐dimensional models associated with the displacement components, and we will give the existence and uniqueness of solution for them. Moreover, we will give an expression for the normal axial stress in the beam which is related to the modulus of rupture of brittle materials. In the final part of the work, we will deal with the regularity of the solution for the bending problem and we will prove some properties of the coincidence set. We consider a class of non‐selfadjoint operators generated by the equation and the boundary conditions, which govern small vibrations of an ideal filament with non‐conservative boundary conditions at one end and a heavy load at the other end. The filament has a non‐constant density and is subject to a viscous damping with a non‐constant damping coefficient. The boundary conditions contain two arbitrary complex parameters. In our previous paper (Mathematical Methods in the Applied Sciences 2001; 24 (15) : 1139–1169), we have derived the asymptotic approximations for the eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of the aforementioned non‐selfadjoint operators when the boundary parameters were arbitrary complex numbers except for one specific value of one of the parameters. We call this value the critical value of the boundary parameter. It has been shown (in Mathematical Methods in the Applied Sciences 2001; 24 (15) : 1139–1169) that the entire set of the eigenvalues is located in a strip parallel to the real axis. The latter property is crucial for the proof of the fact that the set of the root vectors of the operator forms a Riesz basis in the state space of the system. In the present paper, we derive the asymptotics of the spectrum exactly in the case of the critical value of the boundary parameter. We show that in this case, the asymptotics of the eigenvalues is totally different, i.e. both the imaginary and real parts of eigenvalues tend to ∞as the number of an eigenvalue increases. We will show in our next paper, that as an indirect consequence of such a behaviour of the eigenvalues, the set of the root vectors of the corresponding operator is not uniformly minimal (let alone the Riesz basis property). This paper is the third in a series of several works devoted to the asymptotic and spectral analysis of a model of an aircraft wing in a subsonic air flow. This model has been developed in the Flight Systems Research Center of UCLA and is presented in the works by Balakrishnan. The model is governed by a system of two coupled integro‐differential equations and a two‐parameter family of boundary conditions modeling the action of the self‐straining actuators. The differential parts of the above equations form a coupled linear hyperbolic system; the integral parts are of the convolution type. The system of equations of motion is equivalent to a single operator evolution–convolution equation in the energy space. The Laplace transform of the solution of this equation can be represented in terms of the so‐called generalized resolvent operator, which is an operator‐valued function of the spectral parameter. This generalized resolvent operator is a finite‐meromorphic function on the complex plane having the branch cut along the negative real semi‐axis. Its poles are precisely the aeroelastic modes and the residues at these poles are the projectors on the generalized eigenspaces. In the first two papers (see [33, 34]) and in the present one, our main object of interest is the dynamics generator of the differential parts of the system. This generator is a non‐self‐adjoint operator in the energy space with a purely discrete spectrum. In the first paper, we have shown that the spectrum consists of two branches, and have derived their precise spectral asymptotics with respect to the eigenvalue number. In the second paper, we have derived the asymptotical approximations for the mode shapes. Based on the asymptotical results of the first two papers, in the present paper, we (a) prove that the set of the generalized eigenvectors of the aforementioned differential operator is complete in the energy space; (b) construct the set of vectors which is biorthogonal to the set of the generalized eigenvectors in the case when there might be not only eigenvectors but associate vectors as well; and (c) prove that the set of the generalized eigenvectors forms a Riesz basis in the energy space. To prove the main result of the paper, we made use of the Nagy–Foias functional model for non‐self‐adjoint operators. The results of all three papers will be important for the reconstruction of the solution of the original initial‐boundary‐value problem from its Laplace transform in the forthcoming papers. We consider problems of statics of thin elastic shells with hyperbolic middle surface subjected to boundary conditions ensuring the geometric rigidity of the surface. The asymptotic behaviour of the solutions when the relative thickness tends to zero is then given by the membrane approximation. It is a hyperbolic problem propagating singularities along the characteristics. We address here the reflection phenomena when the propagated singularities arrive to a boundary. As the boundary conditions are not the classical ones for a hyperbolic system, there are various cases of reflection. Roughly speaking, singularities provoked elsewhere are not reflected at all at a free boundary, whereas at a fixed (or clamped) boundary the reflected singularity is less singular than the incident one. Reflection of singularities provoked along a non‐characteristic curve C are also considered. Copyright © 2003 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

We consider a boundary‐transmission problem for the Helmholtz equation, in a Bessel potential space setting, which arises within the context of wave diffraction theory. The boundary under consideration consists of a strip, and certain conditions are assumed on it in the form of oblique derivatives. Operator theoretical methods are used to deal with the problem and, as a consequence, several convolution type operators are constructed and associated to the problem. At the end, the well‐posedness of the problem is shown for a range of non‐critical regularity orders of the Bessel potential spaces, which include the finite energy norm space. In addition, an operator normalization method is applied to the critical orders case. Copyright © 2004 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In this work we analyse the asymptotic behaviour of eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of the linearized elasticity eigenvalue problem of curved rod‐like bodies with respect to the small thickness ? of the rod. We show that the eigenfunctions and scaled eigenvalues converge, as ? tends to zero, toward eigenpairs of the eigenvalue problem associated to the one‐dimensional curved rod model which is posed on the middle curve of the rod. Because of the auxiliary function appearing in the model, describing the rotation angle of the cross‐sections, the limit eigenvalue problem is non‐classical. This problem is transformed into a classical eigenvalue problem with eigenfunctions being inextensible displacements, but the corresponding linear operator is not a differential operator. In this paper we study the spatial behaviour of solutions of some problems for the dual‐phase‐lag heat equation on a semi‐infinite cylinder. The theory of dual‐phase‐lag heat conduction leads to a hyperbolic partial differential equation with a third derivative with respect to time. First, we investigate the spatial evolution of solutions of an initial boundary‐value problem with zero boundary conditions on the lateral surface of the cylinder. Under a boundedness restriction on the initial data, an energy estimate is obtained. An upper bound for the amplitude term in this estimate in terms of the initial and boundary data is also established. For the case of zero initial conditions, a more explicit estimate is obtained which shows that solutions decay exponentially along certain spatial‐time lines. A class of non‐standard problems is also considered for which the temperature and its first two time derivatives at a fixed time T are assumed proportional to their initial values. The behaviour of the solution of the boundary value problem for a pseudodifferential equation (PDE), Green's function of this problem, and also some of their local and global characteristics, during variation of the domain is investigated. Formulas are proposed that enable the solution of a broad class of PDE in a domain to be expressed in terms of the solution in the near domain. Local characteristics of the solution are expressed in terms of the local characteristics of the solution in the near domain. A double asymptotic form of Green's function for both arguments tending to the domain boundary occurs in the variation formula. The variation of this double asymptotic form as the domain varies is expressed in terms of this same asymptotic form. The system of variation formulas obtained is closed. It enables the PDE solution in the domain to be reduced to the solution of an ordinary differential equation in functional space. The local characteristics of the solution can also be found by this method without calculating the solution itself. If there is sufficient symmetry in the initial operator, then conservation laws in the Noether sense are obtained for its Green's function and its asymptotic form. The behaviour of the quantities under investigation is studied under inversion.

The investigation of variations of the solutions of problems for the variation of the domain occurs in the paper by Hadamard /1/, who studied the variation in conformal mapping and obtained a formula similar to (1.4). The formula for the variation of the solution of the boundary value problem for an elliptic differential equation is obtained in /2/. Variation formulas for the case of the operator of the problem about a crack and a circular domain are obtained in /3, 4/. The Irwin formula /5/ is obtained from formulas (1.4) and (1.21) by substitution.  相似文献

The rotating flow in the presence of a magnetic field is a problem belonging to hydromagnetics and deserves to be more widely studied than it has been to date. In the non‐linear regime the literature is scarce. We develop the governing equations for the unsteady hydromagnetic rotating flow of a fourth‐order fluid past a porous plate. The steady flow is governed by a boundary value problem in which the order of differential equations is more than the number of available boundary conditions. It is shown that by augmenting the boundary conditions based on asymptotic structures at infinity it is possible to obtain numerical solutions of the nonlinear hydromagnetic equations. Effects of uniform suction or blowing past the porous plate, exerted magnetic field and rotation on the flow phenomena, especially on the boundary layer structure near the plate, are numerically analysed and discussed. The flow behaviours of the Newtonian fluid and second‐, third‐ and fourth‐order non‐Newtonian fluids are compared for the special flow problem, respectively. The quenching problem is examined for a one‐dimensional heat equation with a non‐linear boundary condition that is of either local or non‐local type. Sufficient conditions are derived that establish both quenching and non‐quenching behaviour. The growth rate of the solution near quenching is also given for a power‐law non‐linearity. The analysis is conducted in the context of a nonlinear Volterra integral equation that is equivalent to the initial–boundary value problem. Copyright © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The article considers a three‐dimensional crack problem in linear elasticity with Dirichlet boundary conditions. The crack in this model problem is assumed to be a smooth open surface with smooth boundary curve. The hp‐version of the boundary element method with weakly singular operator is applied to approximate the unknown jump of the traction which is not L2‐regular due to strong edge singularities. Assuming quasi‐uniform meshes and uniform distributions of polynomial degrees, we prove an a priori error estimate in the energy norm. The estimate gives an upper bound for the error in terms of the mesh size h and the polynomial degree p. It is optimal in h for any given data and quasi‐optimal in p for sufficiently smooth data. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq, 2008  相似文献

We study a linear model of McKendrick‐von Foerster‐Keyfitz type for the temporal development of the age structure of a two‐sex human population. For the underlying system of partial integro‐differential equations, we exploit the semigroup theory to show the classical well‐posedness and asymptotic stability in a Hilbert space framework under appropriate conditions on the age‐specific mortality and fertility moduli. Finally, we propose an implicit finite difference scheme to numerically solve this problem and prove its convergence under minimal regularity assumptions. A real data application is also given. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Numer Methods Partial Differential Eq 32: 706–736, 2016  相似文献
