This article summarizes recent efforts for synthesis and reaction chemistry with (imido)vanadium(V)‐alkyl, ‐alkylidene complexes. These (arylimido)vanadium(V) dichloride complexes especially containing aryloxo ligands exhibited notable activities for ethylene polymerization affording ultra high molecular weight polymers with unimodal molecular weight distribution, and the reacition pathways for the polymerization/dimerization using (imido)vanadium(V) dichloride complexes containing (2‐anilido‐methyl)pyridine ligands can be tuned by modification of the steric bulk in the imido substituents; the adamantylimido analogues exhibited exceptionally high both activity and selectivity in the dimerization. The use of DMC chemistry for the synthesis of 5‐membered N‐ and O‐heterocycles is reported. In these one‐pot reactions DMC act as a sacrificial molecule providing the selected substrates with an halogen‐free leaving group which is then expelled to form the 5‐membered cyclic by intramolecular cyclisation. AFM topographical image (40 × 40 μm2) of a hepatocellular carcinoma cell with illustrations depicting the location and profile of force/adhesion measurements made on the cell surface and on the substrate. Repeated reaction between chiral quaternary ammonium halide dimer and disodium disulfonate gave the ionic polymer, which contains chiral quaternary ammonium sulfonate structure as a repeating unit. This chiral ionic polymer showed an excellent catalytic activity in asymmetric benzylation reaction. Donor‐ or acceptor‐substituted azobenzenethiol monolayers were used to modify the Au electrode surface. Photo‐switching of the azobenzene moiety resulted in changes in the work function of the metal, as well as the packing order of the monolayer at the surface, both of which modulate the electron transfer between the electrode and the redox couple in a contacting solution. This figure was contributed by Prof. Yu‐Tai Tao, now the Distinguished Research Fellow of the Institute of Chemistry, Academia Sinica, Taiwan. The luminescence process using density functional method is studied. Based on the basic research, the commercial red phosphor has been improved and a series of new red emitting VUV phosphors with high efficiency have been explored. The computational study of gold(I)‐catalyzed ring expansion reactions of unactivated alkynylcyclopropanes is reported. The main finding of this work is that when unactivated alkynylcyclopropane with a smaller singlet‐triplet splitting (ΔEST) is utilized, the gold(I)‐catalyzed ring expansion step has a smaller activation energy and a larger exothermicity. Perflurooctanesulfonates (fluorous sulfonates) have been developed as triflates and nonaflates alternatives for Pd‐catalyzed coupling reactions to form C‐C, C‐N, C‐S, C‐H, and C‐CN bonds. They also serve as a phase‐tag for fluorous solid‐phase extraction (F‐SPE) to facilitate the product purification. The utility of fluorous sulfonate linkers in the synthesis of biologically interested library scaffolds is summarized in this short review article. In this paper, a simple in situ preparation of aluminum iodide (AlI3) from cheap, abundant aluminum metal (Al(s)) and elemental iodine (I2) served as an efficient catalyst for the dehydrative thioglycosylation of 1‐hydroxyl sugars with various alkyl and aryl mercaptans. Due to the anchimeric assistant mechanism, the anomerically pure β‐thioglycosides were obtained in high yields with exclusive diastereoselectivity. In this paper , adsorption of lactic acid (LA) on the outer surface, inside and in the edge of Si‐doped Single Walled Carbon Nanotubes (SWCNTs) with different chirality has been investigated. The results showed that the adsorption of lactic acid onto the outer surface of Si‐doped carbon nanotubes is thermodynamically favored. More details will be discussed by Dr. A. N. Chermahini and his group on page 250–260 in this issue.

The half‐occupied iron 3d orbitals interact with a specific porphyrin molecular orbital and affect the NMR chemical shifts. This review describes the importance of revealing the relationship between the orbital interactions and chemical shifts to determin the fine electronic structures of iron porphyrins as well as naturally occurring heme proteins.
