For a topological group G, we denote by G a the arc component of the neutral element and by the character group of G, i.e. the group of all continuous homomorphisms from G into T. We prove the following theorem: Let G be a connected locally compact abelian group and let be the embedding. Then is a topological isomorphism. In particular, the character group of the arc component of a compact abelian group is discrete. Some conclusions will be drawn.  相似文献

In this note, we construct an example of a locally compact abelian group G = C × D (where C is a compact group and D is a discrete group) and a closed pure subgroup of G having nonpure annihilator in the Pontrjagin dual $\hat{G}$, answering a question raised by Hartman and Hulanicki. A simple proof of the following result is given: Suppose ${\frak K}$ is a class of locally compact abelian groups such that $G \in {\frak K}$ implies that $\hat{G} \in {\frak K}$ and nG is closed in G for each positive integer n. If H is a closed subgroup of a group $G \in {\frak K}$, then H is topologically pure in G exactly if the annihilator of H is topologically pure in $\hat{G}$. This result extends a theorem of Hartman and Hulanicki.Received: 4 April 2002  相似文献

In this paper we continue to study the spectral norms and their completions ([4]) in the case of the algebraic closure $ \overline {\mathbb Q} $ of ? in ?. Let $ \widetilde{\overline{\mathbb{Q}}} $ be the completion of $ \overline {\mathbb Q} $ relative to the spectral norm. We prove that $ \widetilde{\overline{\mathbb{Q}}} $ can be identified with the R‐subalgebra of all symmetric functions of C(G), where C(G) denotes the ?‐Banach algebra of all continuous functions defined on the absolute Galois group G = Gal$ {\overline {\mathbb Q}} / {\mathbb Q} $. We prove that any compact, closed to conjugation subset of ? is the pseudo‐orbit of a suitable element of $ \widetilde{\overline{\mathbb{Q}}} $. We also prove that the topological closure of any algebraic number field in $ \widetilde{\overline{\mathbb{Q}}} $ is of the form $\widetilde{\mathbb{Q}[x]}$ with x in $ \widetilde{\overline{\mathbb{Q}}} $.  相似文献

Summary. Let $\widehat{\widehat T}_n$ and $\overline U_n$ denote the modified Chebyshev polynomials defined by $\widehat{\widehat T}_n (x) = {T_{2n + 1} \left(\sqrt{x + 3 \over 4} \right) \over \sqrt{x + 3 \over 4}}, \quad \overline U_{n}(x) = U_{n} \left({x + 1 \over 2}\right) \qquad (n \in \mathbb{N}_{0},\ x \in \mathbb{R}).$ For all $n \in \mathbb{N}_{0}$ define $\widehat{\widehat T}_{-(n + 1)} = \widehat{\widehat T}_n$ and $\overline U_{-(n + 2)} = - \overline U_n$, furthermore $\overline U_{-1} = 0$. In this paper, summation formulae for sums of type $\sum\limits^{+\infty}_{k = -\infty} \mathbf a_{\mathbf k}(\nu; x)$ are given, where $\bigl(\mathbf a_{\mathbf k}(\nu; x)\bigr)^{-1} = (-1)^k \cdot \Bigl( x \cdot \widehat{\widehat T}_{\left[k + 1 \over 2\right] - 1} (\nu) +\widehat{\widehat T}_{\left[k + 1 \over 2\right]}(\nu)\Bigr) \cdot \Bigl(x \cdot \overline U_{\left[k \over 2\right] - 1} (\nu) + \overline U_{\left[k \over 2\right]} (\nu)\Bigr)$ with real constants $ x, \nu $. The above sums will turn out to be telescope sums. They appear in connection with projective geometry. The directed euclidean measures of the line segments of a projective scale form a sequence of type $(\mathbf a_{\mathbf k} (\nu;x))_{k \in \mathbb{Z}}$ where $ \nu $ is the cross-ratio of the scale, and x is the ratio of two consecutive line segments once chosen. In case of hyperbolic $(\nu \in \mathbb{R} \setminus] - 3,1[)$ and parabolic $\nu = -3$ scales, the formula $\sum\limits^{+\infty}_{k = -\infty} \mathbf a_{\mathbf k} (\nu; x) = {\frac{1}{x - q_{{+}\atop(-)}}} - {\frac{1}{x - q_{{-}\atop(+)}}} \eqno (1)$ holds for $\nu > 1$ (resp. $\nu \leq - 3$), unless the scale is geometric, that is unless $x = q_+$ or $x = q_-$. By $q_{\pm} = {-(\nu + 1) \pm \sqrt{(\nu - 1)(\nu + 3)} \over 2}$ we denote the quotient of the associated geometric sequence.

The Dual Group of a Dense Subgroup   总被引:1,自引:1,他引:0
Throughout this abstract, G is a topological Abelian group and $\hat G$ is the space of continuous homomorphisms from G into the circle group ${\mathbb{T}}$ in the compact-open topology. A dense subgroup D of G is said to determine G if the (necessarily continuous) surjective isomorphism $\hat G \to \hat D$ given by $h \mapsto h\left| D \right.$ is a homeomorphism, and G is determined if each dense subgroup of G determines G. The principal result in this area, obtained independently by L. Außenhofer and M. J. Chasco, is the following: Every metrizable group is determined. The authors offer several related results, including these. 1. There are (many) nonmetrizable, noncompact, determined groups. 2. If the dense subgroup D i determines G i with G i compact, then $ \oplus _i D_i $ determines Πi G i. In particular, if each G i is compact then $ \oplus _i G_i $ determines Πi G i. 3. Let G be a locally bounded group and let G + denote G with its Bohr topology. Then G is determined if and only if G + is determined. 4. Let non $\left( {\mathcal{N}} \right)$ be the least cardinal κ such that some $X \subseteq {\mathbb{T}}$ of cardinality κ has positive outer measure. No compact G with $w\left( G \right) \geqslant non\left( {\mathcal{N}} \right)$ is determined; thus if $\left( {\mathcal{N}} \right) = {\mathfrak{N}}_1 $ (in particular if CH holds), an infinite compact group G is determined if and only if w(G) = ω. Question. Is there in ZFC a cardinal κ such that a compact group G is determined if and only if w(G) < κ? Is $\kappa = non\left( {\mathcal{N}} \right)?\kappa = {\mathfrak{N}}_1 ?$   相似文献

In this paper, we describe a relationship between the simplest examples of arithmetic theta series. The first of these are the weight 1 theta series ${\widehat{\phi}_{\mathcal C}(\tau)}$ defined using arithmetic 0-cycles on the moduli space ${\mathcal C}$ of elliptic curves with CM by the ring of integers ${O_{\kappa}}$ of an imaginary quadratic field. The second such series ${\widehat{\phi}_{\mathcal M}(\tau)}$ has weight 3/2 and takes values in the arithmetic Chow group ${\widehat{{\rm CH}}^1(\mathcal{M})}$ of the arithmetic surface associated to an indefinite quaternion algebra ${B/\mathbb{Q}}$ . For an embedding ${O_\kappa \rightarrow O_B}$ , a maximal order in B, and a two sided O B -ideal Λ, there is a morphism ${j_\Lambda:{\mathcal C} \rightarrow {\mathcal M}}$ and a pullback ${j_\Lambda^*: \widehat{{\rm CH}}^1(\mathcal{M}) \rightarrow \widehat{{\rm CH}}^1(\mathcal C)}$ . Our main result is an expression for the pullback ${j^*_\Lambda \widehat{\phi}_{\mathcal M}(\tau)}$ as a linear combination of products of ${\widehat{\phi}_{\mathcal C}(\tau)}$ ’s and classical weight ${\frac{1}{2}}$ theta series.  相似文献

ALE spaces are the simply connected hyperkähler manifolds which at infinity look like ${\mathbb{C}^{2}/G}ALE spaces are the simply connected hyperk?hler manifolds which at infinity look like \mathbbC2/G{\mathbb{C}^{2}/G}, for any finite subgroup G ì SL2(\mathbbC){G \subset SL_2(\mathbb{C})}. We prove that all exact Lagrangians inside ALE spaces must be spheres. The proof relies on showing the vanishing of a twisted version of symplectic cohomology.  相似文献

In this paper, we give some characterizations of almost completely regular spaces and c-semistratifiable spaces(CSS) by semi-continuous functions. We mainly show that:(1)Let X be a space. Then the following statements are equivalent:(i) X is almost completely regular.(ii) Every two disjoint subsets of X, one of which is compact and the other is regular closed, are completely separated.(iii) If g, h : X → I, g is compact-like, h is normal lower semicontinuous, and g ≤ h, then there exists a continuous function f : X → I such that g ≤ f ≤ h;and(2) Let X be a space. Then the following statements are equivalent:(a) X is CSS;(b) There is an operator U assigning to a decreasing sequence of compact sets(Fj)j∈N,a decreasing sequence of open sets(U(n,(Fj)))n∈N such that(b1) Fn■U(n,(Fj)) for each n ∈ N;(b2)∩n∈NU(n,(Fj)) =∩n∈NFn;(b3) Given two decreasing sequences of compact sets(Fj)j∈N and(Ej)j∈N such that Fn■Enfor each n ∈ N, then U(n,(Fj))■U(n,(Ej)) for each n ∈ N;(c) There is an operator Φ : LCL(X, I) → USC(X, I) such that, for any h ∈ LCL(X, I),0 Φ(h) h, and 0 Φ(h)(x) h(x) whenever h(x) 0.  相似文献

We consider proper holomorphic maps ${\pi : D\rightarrow G}$ , where D and G are domains in ${\mathbb{C}^{n}}$ . Let ${\alpha\in \mathcal{C}(G,\mathbb{R}_{ > 0})}$ . We show that every π induces some subspace H of ${\mathbb{A}^{2}_{\alpha\circ\pi}(D)}$ such that ${\mathbb{A}^{2}_{\alpha}(G)}$ is isometrically isomorphic to H via some unitary operator Γ. Using this isomorphism we construct the orthogonal projection onto H, and we derive Bell’s transformation formula for the weighted Bergman kernel function under proper holomorphic mappings. As a consequence of the formula, we get that the tetrablock is not a Lu Qi-Keng domain.

To each irreducible infinite dimensional representation $(\pi ,\mathcal {H})$ of a C*‐algebra $\mathcal {A}$, we associate a collection of irreducible norm‐continuous unitary representations $\pi _{\lambda }^\mathcal {A}$ of its unitary group ${\rm U}(\mathcal {A})$, whose equivalence classes are parameterized by highest weights in the same way as the irreducible bounded unitary representations of the group ${\rm U}_\infty (\mathcal {H}) = {\rm U}(\mathcal {H}) \cap (\mathbf {1} + K(\mathcal {H}))$ are. These are precisely the representations arising in the decomposition of the tensor products $\mathcal {H}^{\otimes n} \otimes (\mathcal {H}^*)^{\otimes m}$ under ${\rm U}(\mathcal {A})$. We show that these representations can be realized by sections of holomorphic line bundles over homogeneous Kähler manifolds on which ${\rm U}(\mathcal {A})$ acts transitively and that the corresponding norm‐closed momentum sets $I_{\pi _\lambda ^\mathcal {A}}^{\bf n} \subseteq {\mathfrak u}(\mathcal {A})^{\prime }$ distinguish inequivalent representations of this type.  相似文献

We extend the concept of and basic results on statistical convergence from ordinary (single) sequences to multiple sequences of (real or complex) numbers. As an application to Fourier analysis, we obtain the following Theorem 3: (i) If $f \in L(\textrm{log}^{+} L)^{d-1}(\mathbb{T}^d)$, where $\mathbb{T}^d := [-\pi, \pi)^{d}$ is the d-dimensional torus, then the Fourier series of f is statistically convergent to $f({\bf t})$ at almost every ${\bf t} \in \mathbb{T}^d$; (ii) If $f \in C(\mathbb{T}^d)$, then the Fourier series of f is statistically convergent to $f ({\bf t})$ uniformly on $\mathbb{T}^d$. We completely determine, up to homeomorphism, which simply connected compact oriented 4-manifolds admit scalar-flat, anti-self-dual Riemannian metrics. The key new ingredient is a proof that the connected sum of five reverse-oriented complex projective planes admits such metrics. Supported in part by NSF grant DMS-0604735.  相似文献

We show that, given any connected, compact space ${Z \subset \mathbb{R}^n}$ , there exists a group G acting geometrically on two CAT(0) spaces X and Y, a G-equivariant quasi-isometry ${f\colon X\rightarrow Y}$ , and a geodesic ray c in X such that the closure of f (c), intersected with ${\partial Y}$ , is homeomorphic to Z. This characterizes all homeomorphism types of ??geodesic boundary images?? that arise in this manner.  相似文献

Let G =  (V, E) be a finite loopless graph and let (A, +) be an abelian group with identity 0. Then an A-magic labeling of G is a function ${\phi}$ from E into A ? {0} such that for some ${a \in A, \sum_{e \in E(v)} \phi(e) = a}$ for every ${v \in V}$ , where E(v) is the set of edges incident to v. If ${\phi}$ exists such that a =  0, then G is zero-sum A-magic. Let zim(G) denote the subset of ${\mathbb{N}}$ (the positive integers) such that ${1 \in zim(G)}$ if and only if G is zero-sum ${\mathbb{Z}}$ -magic and ${k \geq 2 \in zim(G)}$ if and only if G is zero-sum ${\mathbb{Z}_k}$ -magic. We establish that if G is 3-regular, then ${zim(G) = \mathbb{N} - \{2\}}$ or ${\mathbb{N} - \{2,4\}.}$   相似文献
