In this article, we show that all quadrangulations of the sphere with minimum degree at least 3 can be constructed from the pseudo‐double wheels, preserving the minimum degree at least 3, by a sequence of two kinds of transformations called “vertex‐splitting” and “4‐cycle addition.” We also consider such generating theorems for other closed surfaces. A graph is s‐regular if its automorphism group acts freely and transitively on the set of s‐arcs. An infinite family of cubic 1‐regular graphs was constructed in [10], as cyclic coverings of the three‐dimensional Hypercube. In this paper, we classify the s‐regular cyclic coverings of the complete bipartite graph K3,3 for each ≥ 1 whose fibre‐preserving automorphism subgroups act arc‐transitively. In this paper, we consider regular automorphism groups of graphs in the RT2 family and the Davis‐Xiang family and amorphic abelian Cayley schemes from these graphs. We derive general results on the existence of non‐abelian regular automorphism groups from abelian regular automorphism groups and apply them to the RT2 family and Davis‐Xiang family and their amorphic abelian Cayley schemes to produce amorphic non‐abelian Cayley schemes.  相似文献

A graph is walk‐regular if the number of closed walks of length ? rooted at a given vertex is a constant through all the vertices for all ?. For a walk‐regular graph G with d+1 different eigenvalues and spectrally maximum diameter D=d, we study the geometry of its d‐spreads, that is, the sets of vertices which are mutually at distance d. When these vertices are projected onto an eigenspace of its adjacency matrix, we show that they form a simplex (or tetrahedron in a three‐dimensional case) and we compute its parameters. Moreover, the results are generalized to the case of k‐walk‐regular graphs, a family which includes both walk‐regular and distance‐regular graphs, and their t‐spreads or vertices at distance t from each other. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Triangle‐free quasi‐symmetric 2‐ (v, k, λ) designs with intersection numbers x, y; 0<x<y<kand λ>1, are investigated. It is proved that λ?2y ? x ? 3. In this paper, it will be shown that the isomorphism classes of regular orientable embeddings of the complete bipartite graph Kn,n are in one‐to‐one correspondence with the permutations on n elements satisfying a given criterion, and the isomorphism classes of them are completely classified when n is a product of any two (not necessarily distinct) prime numbers. For other n, a lower bound of the number of those isomorphism classes of Kn,n is obtained. As a result, many new regular orientable embeddings of the complete bipartite graph are constructed giving an answer of Nedela‐?koviera's question raised in 12 . © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We give a very short proof of an Erd?s conjecture that the number of edges in a non‐2‐colorable n‐uniform hypergraph is at least f(n)2n, where f(n) goes to infinity. Originally it was solved by József Beck in 1977, showing that f(n) at least clog n. With an ingenious recoloring idea he later proved that f(n) ≥ cn1/3+o(1). Here we prove a weaker bound on f(n), namely f(n) ≥ cn1/4. Instead of recoloring a random coloring, we take the ground set in random order and use a greedy algorithm to color. The same technique works for getting bounds on k‐colorability. It is also possible to combine this idea with the Lovász Local Lemma, reproving some known results for sparse hypergraphs (e.g., the n‐uniform, n‐regular hypergraphs are 2‐colorable if n ≥ 8). © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A Menon design of order h2 is a symmetric (4h2,2h2h,h2h)‐design. Quasi‐residual and quasi‐derived designs of a Menon design have parameters 2‐(2h2 + h,h2,h2h) and 2‐(2h2h,h2h,h2h‐1), respectively. In this article, regular Hadamard matrices are used to construct non‐embeddable quasi‐residual and quasi‐derived Menon designs. This paper concerns nonlinear dissipative initial boundary value problems for the Benjamin–Bona–Mahony equation posed on a half‐line and on bounded intervals. We prove the existence and uniqueness of global solutions and decay of the energy as time tends to infinity as well as convergence of solutions on bounded intervals to a solution on a half‐line. The point‐line geometry known as a partial quadrangle (introduced by Cameron in 1975) has the property that for every point/line non‐incident pair (P, ?), there is at most one line through P concurrent with ?. So in particular, the well‐studied objects known as generalized quadrangles are each partial quadrangles. An intriguing set of a generalized quadrangle is a set of points which induces an equitable partition of size two of the underlying strongly regular graph. We extend the theory of intriguing sets of generalized quadrangles by Bamberg, Law and Penttila to partial quadrangles, which gives insight into the structure of hemisystems and other intriguing sets of generalized quadrangles. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. It was only recently shown by Shi and Wormald, using the differential equation method to analyze an appropriate algorithm, that a random 5‐regular graph asymptotically almost surely has chromatic number at most 4. Here, we show that the chromatic number of a random 5‐regular graph is asymptotically almost surely equal to 3, provided a certain four‐variable function has a unique maximum at a given point in a bounded domain. We also describe extensive numerical evidence that strongly suggests that the latter condition holds. The proof applies the small subgraph conditioning method to the number of locally rainbow balanced 3‐colorings, where a coloring is balanced if the number of vertices of each color is equal, and locally rainbow if every vertex is adjacent to at least one vertex of each of the other colors. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The regular extension axiom, REA, was first considered by Peter Aczel in the context of Constructive Zermelo‐Fraenkel Set Theory as an axiom that ensures the existence of many inductively defined sets. In 1960, Dirac posed the conjecture that r‐connected 4‐critical graphs exist for every r ≥ 3. In 1989, Erd?s conjectured that for every r ≥ 3 there exist r‐regular 4‐critical graphs. In this paper, a technique of constructing r‐regular r‐connected vertex‐transitive 4‐critical graphs for even r ≥ 4 is presented.   • (2) Let D be a quasi‐symmetric design with intersection numbers x, y and y ? x = 1. Then D is a design with parameters v = (1 + m) (2 + m)/2, b = (2 + m) (3 + m)/2, r = m + 3, k = m + 1, λ = 2, x = 1, y = 2 and m = 2,3,… or complement of one of these design or D is a design with parameters v = 5, b = 10, r = 6, k = 3, λ = 3, and x = 1, y = 2.

The construction of complete lists of regular graphs up to isomorphism is one of the oldest problems in constructive combinatorics. In this article an efficient algorithm to generate regular graphs with a given number of vertices and vertex degree is introduced. The method is based on orderly generation refined by criteria to avoid isomorphism checking and combined with a fast test for canonicity. The implementation allows computing even large classes of graphs, like construction of the 4‐regular graphs on 18 vertices and, for the first time, the 5‐regular graphs on 16 vertices. Also in cases with given girth, some remarkable results are obtained. For instance, the 5‐regular graphs with girth 5 and minimal number of vertices were generated in less than 1 h.
