We consider eigenvaluesE of the HamiltonianH =–+V+W,W compactly supported, in the limit. ForW0 we find monotonic convergence ofE to the eigenvalues of a limiting operatorH (associated with an exterior Dirichlet problem), and we estimate the rate of convergence for 1-dimensional systems. In 1-dimensional systems withW0, or withW changing sign, we do not find convergence. Instead, we find a cascade phenomenon, in which, as , each eigenvalueE stays near a Dirichlet eigenvalue for a long interval (of lengthO( )) of the scaling range, quickly drops to the next lower Dirichlet eigenvalue, stays there for a long interval, drops again, and so on. As a result, for most large values of the discrete spectrum ofH is close to that ofE , but when reaches a transition region, the entire spectrum quickly shifts down by one. The local magnetic moment and hyperfine fieldB hf at Fe and V sites in hydrogenated iron and iron-vanadium were calculated using the discrete variational method. The variations in andB hf with H occupation of the octahedral (O) site were considered. It was found that when H occupies the O site neighbouring an Fe atom, both local moment and hyperfine field at this atom decrease linearly with increasing number of H atoms. The rate of decrease is larger for Fe in iron as compared to iron in vanadium. On the other hand, when H resides at an O site next neighbouring an Fe atom, whether in iron metal or in iron-vanadium, the Fe magnetic moment increases slowly, while the hyperfine field remains almost constant. The V moment in iron, which is negative (–0.83 B ), becomes less negative (–0.30 B) as H occupies the neighboring O sites, whereas slight changes occur (–0.88 B) when H is at the next neighbouring O site. The net effect of H on Fe in iron is to decrease the average magnetic moment at a rate of 1.2 B per H/Fe for low H content. On the other hand, the average Fe moment in an iron-vanadium alloy increases if H resides at O sites which are immediate neigbours of V and next neighbours of Fe. This may explain the development of a magnetic state on hydrogenation of Fe-V alloys, which is exhibited by the specific heat and susceptibility measurements. The changes in the isomer shift were found to agree with experimental trends.  相似文献

An interesting static spherically symmetric solution corresponding to Einstein-Maxwell gravity coupled to a dilaton field with negative kinetic term has been obtained. This solution is characterized by the set of two arbitrary parameters, the physical mass 0 and electric chargeQ. It has two horizons on which the metric, scalar curvature and both dilaton and electromagnetic fields are regular. Another feature of this solution is that the physical mass is bounded by the electric charge as 0Q¦ (unlike the Reisner-Nordström solution for which 0>-¦Q¦). The object of the present paper is to study the MHD effects on the laminar flow of a viscous, incompressible and conducting fluid in an annulus with arbitrary time-varying pressure gradient and arbitrary initial velocity in presence of a radial magnetic field. The second harmonic pulse train from a mode-locked NdYAG Self-Filtering Unstable Resonator has been compressed by a factor of 2.3 using Raman backscattering. Single pulses of 7.4 picoseconds at=0.68m and with 70 percent success probability have been obtained.  相似文献

A qualitative change in the topology of the joint probability densityP(,x), which occurs for strongly colored noise in multistable systems, has recently been observed first by analog simulation (F. Moss and F. Marchesoni,Phys. Lett. A 131:322 (1988)) and confirmed by matrix continued fraction methods (Th. Leiber and H. Riskin, unpublished), and by analytic theory (P. Hänggi, P. Jung, and F. Marchesoni,J. Stat. Phys., this issue). Systems studied were of the classx=–U(x)/x+(t,), whereU(x) is a multistable potential and (t, ) is a colored, Gaussian noise of intensityD, for which =0, and (t) (s)=(D/)exp(–t–s/). When the noise correlation time is smaller than some critical value 0, which depends onD, the two-dimensional densityP(,x) has the usual topology [P. Jung and H. Risken,Z. Phys. B 61:367 (1985); F. Moss and P. V. E. McClintock,Z. Phys. B 61:381 (1985)]: a pair of local maxima ofP(,x), which correspond to a pair of adjacent local minima ofU(x), are connected by a single saddle point which lies on thex axis. When >0, however,the single saddle disappears and is replaced by a pair of off-axis saddles. A depression, or hole, which is bounded by the saddles and the local maxima thus appears. The most probable trajectory connecting the two potential wells therefore does not pass through the origin for >0, but instead must detour around the local barrier. This observation implies that successful mean-first-passage-time theories of strongly colored noise driven systems must necessarily be two dimensional (Hänggiet al.). We have observed these holes for several potentialsU(x): (1)a soft, bistable potential by analog simulation (Moss and Marchesoni); (2) a periodic potential [Th. Leiber, F. Marchesoni, and H. Risken,Phys. Rev. Lett. 59:1381 (1987)] by matrix continued fractions; (3) the usual hard, bistable potential,U(x)=–ax 2/2+bx 4/4, by analog simulations only; and (4) a random potential for which the forcingf(x)=–U(x)/x is an approximate Gaussian with nonzero correlation length, i.e., colored spatiotemporal noise, by analog simulation. There is a critical curve 0(D) in the versusD plane which divides the two topological behaviors. For a fixed value ofD, this curve is shifted toward larger values of 0 for progressively weaker barriers between the wells. Therefore, strong barriers favor the observation of this topological transformation at smaller values of . Recently, an analytic expression for the critical curve, valid asymptotically in the small-D limit, has been obtained (Hänggiet al.).This paper will appear in a forthcoming issue of theJournal of Statistical Physics.  相似文献

Zusammenfassung Es wurde ein Verfahren zur Erregung von stationären Schichten, der Schichtungswelle und der laufenden Schichten in der Gleichstromentladung ausgearbeitet, das auf der Einwirkung eines Hochfrequenzfeldes auf einen kurzen Abschnitt der positiven Säule beruht. Dieses Verfahren wurde zum Studium aller drei angeführten Schichtungsarten in Neon benützt, insbesondere jedoch zum Studium des Zusammenhanges zwischen den laufenden und den stationären Schichten.Bei stationären Schichten wurden zweifache Strukturen festgestellt und es wurde deren Abhängigkeit vom Entladungsstrom und von der Größe des erregenden Hochfrequenzfeldes verfolgt.Bei der Schichtungswelle wurde die Stelle deren Entstehung ermittelt und es wurde nachgewiesen, daß das Hochfrequenzfeld diese Welle lokal an der Stelle dessen Einwirkung auf die positive Säule hervorruft.Bei den laufenden Schichten wurde deren Resonanzfrequenz in Abhängigkeit vom Entladungsstrom und die Abhängigkeit der Wellenlänge der Schichten von der Frequenz untersucht.Es wurde festgestellt, daß der extrapolierte Wert der Wellenlänge für die Nullfrequenz erheblich niedriger ist als die Länge der stationären Schichten. Weiter wurde eine Übereinstimmung der Frequenz der laufenden Schichten in der Schichtungswelle mit der Resonanzfrequenz der künstlich hervorgerufenen laufenden Schichten festgestellt.

The paper points to the possibility of describing the properties of recombination centres by means of the quantitiesc p/c n ande n/e p, in contrast to the existing method based mainly on the so-called energy position of recombination levels. The usual kinetic equations for the site occupation probabilities in an external field are solved exactly in a simple one-dimensional periodic model with two kinds of atoms using a) free boundary conditions and order of limitsN, 0 needed for a proper treatment of the dc conductivity here b) boundary conditions with metallic contacts and order of limitsN, 0 and c) the same boundary conditions but reversed order of limiting processes 0,N typical of e.g. numerical and percolation treatments. (N and are the number of sites and frequency.) It is demonstrated that though the bulk dc conductivity is the same in all three cases, local bulk properties of the material are strongly dependent on the régime used. The role of the order of all three limiting processes 0,N+ andn+ (Nn+) for local shifts of the chemical potential n in the dc limit is examined (n is the number of the relevant site calculated from a boundary of the chain). It is shown especially that the rate equation treatment (régime a) on the one hand and numerical or percolation treatments (régime c) on the other hand never yield the same bulk values of r.  相似文献

The paper gives the absorption spectrum of liquid selenium in a wave-length region of 2 to 25 and investigates the temperature dependence of the absorption bands in a temperature range up to 400C. It also gives the absorption spectrum of amorphous and liquid sulphur and investigates the temperature dependence of the absorption bands in a temperature range up to 400C in a wave-length region of 2 to 25 . Preliminary measurements were made of the infra-red emission spectrum of the heat nature of liquid sulphur and liquid selenium. The paper then investigates the similarity of the absorption spectra of amorphous and liquid sulphur and selenium in the whole wave-length range measured today up to 135 and 150 respectively, and an attempt is made at an empirical correlation between the absorption bands of these elements.In another paper we wish to deal with the interpretation proper of the vibration spectra of sulphur and selenium.  相似文献

The magnetic moment , hyperfine fieldB hf and isomer shiftIS at the Fe site in bcc Fe-Al alloys were calculated from first principle. Contrary to the belief that Al atoms reside in the iron lattice as magnetic holes, it was found that the local magnetic moment of Fe is decreased when Al is at a nearest neighbour site (NN), while it increases if Al is at a next-nearest neighbour site (NNN). Consequently, the average per Fe atom was found to be, initially, independent of Al content. Assuming a linear dependence of Fe on the number of Al atoms at NN and NNN sites, we calculated the average, which was found to agree with experimental results of cold worked alloys for disordered Fe-Al alloy. On the other hand, antiferromagnetic coupling appears in the CsCl ordered structures. The averageB hf was also calculated and compared to experimental data and the trends in theIS are considered.  相似文献

Intense picosecond light pulses of a mode-locked Nd: glass laser at L =1054 nm (fundamental wavelength) and SH =527 nm (second harmonic wavelength) are passed through a sample of D2O under self-focusing conditions. Spectrally structured superbroadened, spatially bell-shaped emission in the forward direction is obtained. Primary generation processes are pump-pulse-degenerate stimulated parametric four-photon interaction (1 + 1 3 + 4) and stimulated Raman scattering (1 R + ), which occur concurrently (1= L or SH angular pump frequency, #x03C9; R first Stokes frequency, #x03C9; signal frequency, #x03C9;3 signal frequency, #x03C9;4 idler frequency). The parametric four-photon interaction occurs under collinear non-phase-matched conditions and under longitudinally phase-matched, transversally non-phase-matched (erenkov-like) conditions. Subsequent interaction processes are pump-pulse-nondegenerate four-photon interaction of the type 1 + R 3 + 4, coherent antiStokes Raman scattering (CARS, 1 + 14 3), inverse Raman scattering ( A + 1 + ), and cascading light up-conversion of the type 1 + (i) R (i+1).  相似文献

Various intersection probabilities of independent random walks ind dimensions are calculated analytically by a direct renormalization method, adapted from polymer physics. This heuristic approach, based on Edwards' continuum model, leads to a straightforward derivation and also to refinements of Lawler's results for the simultaneous intersections of two walks in 4, or three walks in 3. These results are generalized toP walks in d *, ,P2. Ford<4, an infinite set of universal critical exponents L ,L1, are derived. They govern the asymptotic probability thatL star walks in d , with a common origin, do not intersect before timeS. The L 's are calculated up to orderO(2), whered=4–. This information is used to calculate the probability that a set of independent random walks in d or d ,d4, (respectivelyd3) form a given topological networks of multiple intersection points, in the absence of any other double point (respectively triple point). This is generalized to a network in dimension with exclusion ofP-tuple points. The method is quite general and can be used to calculate any critical intersection probability, and provides the probabilist with a large variety of exact results (yet to be proven rigorously).  相似文献

The general theory of the preceding paper is applied to a concrete case. The spin wave interaction operator, s , is derived by quantizing a phenomenological expression, which expresses the contribution to the energy of the magnetic sample, caused by fluctuations in the anisotropic and exchange interaction. The influence of thermally excited spin waves on the absorption of energy from a high-frequency field and the justification for the application of the general results of the preceding paper are discussed on the basis of the form of the operator s . The interaction operator of the magnetic sample with the h-f field is also determined, and it is used to give a definite form to the expression for the resonance curve of the imaginary part of the susceptibility '. Using the matrix elements of the operator s we calculate the quantitiy, which formally corresponds to the width of the resonance -curve. The magnitude of is estimated numerically and our results are compared with those obtained by A. M. Clogston et al. and E. Schlömann for the line width in monocrystals and the shape of the resonance curve in polycrystals respectively. The expression obtained on the basis of the theory of the preceding paper for the frequency shift diverges in our case. The way in which to avoid this divergence is indicated.

The contact process is a model of spread of an infectious disease. Combining with the result of ref. 1, we prove that the critical exponents take on the mean-field values for sufficiently high dimensional nearest-neighbor models and for sufficiently spread-out models with d>4:() c as c and ()( c)–1 as c, where () and () are the spread probability and the susceptibility of the infection respectively, and c is the critical infection rate.
