Cohomological characterisation of monads

Let X be an n‐dimensional smooth projective variety with an n‐block collection , with , of coherent sheaves on X that generate the bounded derived category . We give a cohomological characterisation of torsion‐free sheaves on X that are the cohomology of monads of the form where . We apply the result to get a cohomological characterisation when X is the projective space, the smooth hyperquadric or the Fano threefold V₅. We construct a family of monads on a Segre variety and apply our main result to this family.     

On semi‐isogenous mixed surfaces

Let C be a smooth projective curve and G be a finite subgroup of whose action is mixed, i.e. there are elements in G exchanging the two isotrivial fibrations of . Let be the index two subgroup . If G⁰ acts freely, then is smooth and we call it semi‐isogenous mixed surface. In this paper we give an algorithm to determine semi‐isogenous mixed surfaces with given geometric genus, irregularity and self‐intersection of the canonical class. As an application we classify irregular semi‐isogenous mixed surfaces with and geometric genus equal to the irregularity; the regular case is subjected to some computational restrictions. In this way we construct new examples of surfaces of general type with . We provide an example of a minimal surface of general type with and .     

The automorphism group of a rigid affine variety

An irreducible algebraic variety X is rigid if it admits no nontrivial action of the additive group of the ground field. We prove that the automorphism group of a rigid affine variety contains a unique maximal torus . If the grading on the algebra of regular functions defined by the action of  is pointed, the group  is a finite extension of . As an application, we describe the automorphism group of a rigid trinomial affine hypersurface and find all isomorphisms between such hypersurfaces.     

Nefness of adjoint bundles for ample vector bundles of corank 3

Let be an ample vector bundle of rank on a smooth complex projective variety X of dimension n. The aim of this paper is to describe the structure of pairs as above whose adjoint bundles are not nef for . Furthermore, we give some immediate consequences of this result in adjunction theory.     

Amenability of compact hypergroup algebras

We show that for a compact hypergroup K, the hypergroup algebra is amenable as a Banach algebra if the set of hyperdimensions of irreducible representations of K is bounded above. Conversely if is amenable, the set of ratios of the hyperdimension to the dimension of irreducible representations of K is bounded above. These are equivalent for compact commutative hypergroups.     

Log del Pezzo surfaces with not small fractional indices

For a log del Pezzo surface S, the fractional index is the maximum of r with which can be written as r times some Cartier divisor. We classify all the log del Pezzo surfaces S with , after the technique of Nakayama.     

Gonality of complete graphs with a small number of omitted edges

Let be the complete metric graph on d vertices. We compute the gonality of graphs obtained from by omitting edges forming a , or general configurations of at most edges. We also investigate if these graphs can be lifted to curves with the same gonality. We lift the former graphs and the ones obtained by removing up to edges not forming a K ₃ using models of plane curves with certain singularities. We also study the gonality when removing edges not forming a K ₃. We use harmonic morphism to lift these graphs to curves with the same gonality because in this case plane singular models can no longer be used due to a result of Coppens and Kato.     

Godeaux,Campedelli, and surfaces of general type with and

We construct simply connected surfaces of general type with invariants and . We use ‐Gorenstein deformations in conjunction with explicit constructions that express the canonical rings by generators and relations. The canonical rings of the surfaces are described as projections. The whole construction is simplified by the use of key varieties based on Steiner 3‐folds. As a consequence of the construction we find two families, each family in a different connected component of the moduli stack , and each linking a Campedelli surface with a Godeaux surface.     

A refinement of the Hodge stratification for connected reductive groups

For connected reductive groups G over a finite extension F of and L the maximal unramified extension of F we study the sets of elements with given Hodge points . We explain the relationship to stratifications of some moduli scheme of abelian varieties defined by Goren and Oort respectively Andreatta and Goren. We show that for sufficiently large N the Newton point is constant on the sets and compute such N for certain classes of groups.     

Elliptic subcovers of hyperelliptic curves

The main result of this paper states that if C is a hyperelliptic curve of even genus over an arbitrary field K , then there is a natural bijection between the set of equivalence classes of elliptic subcovers of and the set of elliptic subgroups of its Jacobian .     

Boundary of Anosov dynamics and evolution equations for surfaces

We show that a compact surface of genus greater than one, without focal points and a finite number of bubbles (“good” shaped regions of positive curvature) is in the closure of Anosov metrics. Compact surfaces of nonpositive curvature and genus greater than one are in the closure of Anosov metrics, by Hamilton's work about the Ricci flow. We generalize this fact to the above surfaces without focal points admitting regions of positive curvature using a “magnetic” version of the Ricci flow, the so‐called Ricci Yang‐Mills flow.     

On generically non‐reduced components of Hilbert schemes of smooth curves

A classical example of Mumford gives a generically non‐reduced component of the Hilbert scheme of smooth curves in such that a general element of the component is contained in a smooth cubic surface in . In this article we use techniques from Hodge theory to give further examples of such (generically non‐reduced) components of Hilbert schemes of smooth curves without any restriction on the degree of the surface containing it. As a byproduct we also obtain generically non‐reduced components of certain Hodge loci.     

The action of the etale fundamental group scheme on the connected component of the essentially finite one

We follow the pattern in [14, Section 4] to define an action of the etale fundamental group scheme on the local component of the essentially finite fundamental group scheme of Nori. We show that the associated representation is faithful when X is a curve of genus ⩾2.     

Gradient estimates of Dirichlet heat kernels for unimodal Lévy processes

Under some mild assumptions on the Lévy measure and the symbol we obtain gradient estimates of Dirichlet heat kernels for pure‐jump isotropic unimodal Lévy processes in .     

A Mehta–Ramanathan theorem for linear systems with basepoints

Let be a normal complex projective polarized variety and an H‐semistable sheaf on X. We prove that the restriction to a sufficiently positive general complete intersection curve passing through a prescribed finite set of points remains semistable, provided that at each , the variety X is smooth and the factors of a Jordan–Hölder filtration of are locally free. As an application, we obtain a generalization of Miyaoka's generic semipositivity theorem.     

Globally generated vector bundles on the Segre threefold with Picard number two

We classify globally generated vector bundles on with small first Chern class, i.e. , . Our main method is to investigate the associated smooth curves to globally generated vector bundles via the Hartshorne–Serre correspondence.
