Commutant lifting and interpolation: The time-varying case

We show how the commutant lifting theorem for nest algebras due to Paulsen and Power can be used to give a unified framework for the treatment of a variety of interpolation problems for nest algebras which have been considered recently in the literature. Hyperreflexivity of finite-dimensional subspaces

We show that each reflexive finite-dimensional subspace of operators is hyperreflexive. This gives a positive answer to a problem of Kraus and Larson. We also show that each n-dimensional subspace of Hilbert space operators is -hyperreflexive.     

Joint hyponormality of composition operators with linear fractional symbols

We study joint hyponormality and joint subnormality of ofn-tuples of commuting composition operators with linear fractional symbols, acting on the Hardy spaceH ². We also consider subnormality ofn-tuples of adjoints of composition operators.     

The Kreîn-Langer problem for Hilbert space operator valued functions on the band

We deal with the Kreîn-Langer problem for -valued functions on the band (–2a, 2a)×, where is the algebra of continuous linear operators on a Hilbert space ,a a finite positive number and a topological Abelian group. We show that every weakly continuous -indefinite function admits a strongly continuous -indefinite continuation to × with the same indefiniteness index . We give a parametrization of the extensions in terms of operator-valued Schur functions.     

Form-bounded perturbations of generators of sub-Markovian semigroups

We develop perturbation theory of generators of sub-markovian semigroups by relatively form-bounded perturbations. The L ^p-smoothing properties of semigroups and the uniqueness problem are considered. Applications to operators of mathematical physics are given.     

Two-Wavelet Localization Operators on $$ L^p(\mathbb{R}^n) $$ for the Weyl-Heisenberg Group

We give results on the boundedness and compactness of localization operators with two admissible wavelets on for the Weyl-Heisenberg group.     

Essential Norms of Composition Operators

We obtain simple estimates for the essential norm of a composition operator acting from the Hardy space H ^p to H ^q , p > q, in one or several variables. When p = and q = 2 our results give an exact formula for the essential norm.     

Bounded characteristic functions and models for noncontractive sequences of operators

The Sz.-Nagy-FoiaŞ functional model for completely non-unitary contractions is extended to completely non-coisometric sequences of bounded operatorsT = (T₁,...,T _d) (d finite or infinite) on a Hilbert space, with bounded characteristic functions. For this class of sequences, it is shown that the characteristic function θ_T is a complete unitary invariant. We obtain, as the main result, necessary and sufficient conditions for a bounded multi-analytic operator on Fock spaces to coincide with the characteristic function associated with a completely non-coisometric sequence of bounded operators on a Hilbert space. The Distance to Intertwining Operators,Contractive Liftings and a Related Optimality Result

Given the distance of a contraction A to the kernel of a intertwining relation we estimate the minimal distance of contractive liftings of A to the kernel of the lifted intertwining relation. We also present a related optimality result which involves the inequality $\|F\|\leq \|F-\lambda X\|$, where F and X are given operators and is an arbitrary complex number.     

Filling in the holes of the semi-Fredholm domain

We study the following problem: given a set of holes in the semi-Fredholm domain of an operator, is there an invariant subspace of the operator such that the spectrum of the restriction is equal to the spectrum of the operator together with the set of holes?     

Commutators on Half-Spaces

We study the boundedness and compactness of commutators on , where and are defined by and respectively. If satisfies some upper and lower estimates, then we obtain a necessary and sufficient condition for to be bounded or compact on for . The reproducing kernel of the harmonic Bergman space of can be shown to satisfy all the required estimates. Our result is the real variable analogue of the complex variable one for commutators associated with an analytic reproducing kernel.     

Projections as averages of isometries on minimal norm ideals

The C*-Algebra of a Function Algebra

We associate to each function algebra a C*-algebra and investigate its properties. We are particularly interested in those of its properties that are important for the Toeplitz operator theory on Hardy spaces of representing measures of the function algebra.     

Classes of Operator-Smooth Functions - II. Operator-Differentiable Functions

This paper studies the spaces of Gateaux and Frechet Operator Differentiable functions of a real variable and their link with the space of Operator Lipschitz functions. Apart from the standard operator norm on B(H), we consider a rich variety of spaces of Operator Differentiable and Operator Lipschitz functions with respect to symmetric operator norms. Our approach is aimed at the investigation of the interrelation and hierarchy of these spaces and of the intrinsic properties of Operator Differentiable functions. We apply the obtained results to the study of the functions acting on the domains of closed *-derivations of C*-algebras and prove that Operator Differentiable functions act on all such domains.We also obtain the following modification of this result: any continuously differentiable, Operator Lipschitz function acts on the domains of all weakly closed *-derivations of C*-algebras.     

Generalized inverses over Banach algebras

LetA be a matrix over a complex commutative unital Banach algebra. We give necessary and sufficient conditions forA to have a generalized inverse. Orthogonality in Classes

 Let denote the von Neumann–Schatten class, its norm and let be an elementary operator defined by . We shall characterize those operators which are orthogonal to the range of in the sense that for all . The main results of this paper are: If and (i) if A, C, respectively B, D are commuting normal operators with , or (ii) if A, B are contractions and , then is orthogonal to the range of if and only of S is in the kernel of . On the sequences of the Weyl semi-radii associated with matricial Carathéodory and Schur sequences in both nondegenerate and degenerate cases

In this paper we discuss Weyl matrix balls in the context of the matricial versions of the classical interpolation problems named after Carathéodory and Schur. Our particular focus will be on studying the monotonicity of suitably normalized semi-radii of the corresponding Weyl matrix balls. We, furthermore, devote a fair bit of attention to characterizing the case in which equality holds for particular matricial inequalities. Solving these problems will provide us with a new perspective on the role of the central functions for the classes of Carathéodory and Schur.     

Weyl’s Theorem for Algebraically Paranormal Operators

Let T be an algebraically paranormal operator acting on Hilbert space. We prove : (i) Weyls theorem holds for f(T) for every f $\in$ H((T)); (ii) a-Browders theorem holds for f(S) for every S $\prec$ T and f $\in$ H((S)); (iii) the spectral mapping theorem holds for the Weyl spectrum of T and for the essential approximate point spectrum of T.     

Invariant Subspaces of Positive Quasinilpotent Operators on Ordered Banach Spaces

In this paper we find invariant subspaces of certain positive quasinilpotent operators on Krein spaces and, more generally, on ordered Banach spaces with closed generating cones. In the later case, we use the method of minimal vectors. We present applications to Sobolev spaces, spaces of differentiable functions, and C*-algebras.
