A reaction-diffusion system of activator-inhibitor type is studied on an N-dimensional ball with the homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions. We analyze the stability property of the spherically symmetric solutions and their symmetry-breaking bifurcations into layer solutions which are not spherically symmetric.  相似文献

We establish the existence of a continuous family of fast positive wavefronts u(t,x)=?(x+ct), ?(−)=0, ?(+)=κ, for the non-local delayed reaction-diffusion equation . Here 0 and κ>0 are fixed points of gC2(R+,R+) and the non-negative K is such that is finite for every real λ. We also prove that the fast wavefronts are non-monotone if .  相似文献

This paper is concerned with the existence, asymptotic stability and uniqueness of traveling wavefronts in a nonlocal diffusion equation with delay. By constructing proper upper and lower solutions, the existence and asymptotic behavior of traveling wavefronts are established. Then the asymptotic stability with phase shift as well as the uniqueness up to translation of traveling wavefronts are proved by applying the idea of squeezing technique.  相似文献

The problem of identifying the coefficient in a square porous medium is considered. It is shown that under certain conditions of data f,g, and for a properly specified class A of admissible coefficients, there exists at least one aA such that (a,u) is a solution of the corresponding inverse problem.  相似文献

This paper analyzes the limiting behavior of the positive solutions of a general class of sublinear elliptic weighted mixed boundary value problems as the amplitude of the positive part of the lower order terms of the differential operator blows up to infinity. The main result establishes that the positive solutions approximate zero within the support of the positive part of the potential, whereas they stabilize to the positive solution of a certain elliptic mixed boundary value problem on its complement. Further, we use this result for deriving some general principles in competing species dynamics. Precisely, we shall show that in the presence of a refuge region two competing species must coexist if their reproduction rates are sufficiently large, independently of the strength of the competition. It should be emphasized that the abstract theory developed here allows measuring how large the reproduction rates should be for being permanent, providing us, simultaneously, with the limiting behavior of each of the species separately. Basically, when the pressure from the competitor grows the tackled species concentrates within its refuge. The results of this paper are substantial extensions of some pioneer results found by one of the authors in [16, Section 4]. The main ingredients in deriving the main results of this paper are the continuous dependence of the principal eigenvalue with respect to a general class of perturbations of the domain around its Dirichlet boundary – very recent result coming from [6] – and the continuous dependence of the positive solutions of the sublinear problem – coming from [7].  相似文献

In this paper the vanishing Debye length limit of the bipolar time-dependent drift-diffusion-Poisson equations modelling insulated semiconductor devices with p-n junctions (i.e., with a fixed bipolar background charge) is studied. For sign-changing and smooth doping profile with ‘good’ boundary conditions the quasineutral limit (zero-Debye-length limit) is performed rigorously by using the multiple scaling asymptotic expansions of a singular perturbation analysis and the carefully performed classical energy methods. The key point in the proof is to introduce a ‘density’ transform and two λ-weighted Liapunov-type functionals first, and then to establish the entropy production integration inequality, which yields the uniform estimate with respect to the scaled Debye length. The basic point of the idea involved here is to control strong nonlinear oscillation by the interaction between the entropy and the entropy dissipation.  相似文献

We consider an Allen-Cahn type equation of the form utu+ε−2fε(x,t,u), where ε is a small parameter and fε(x,t,u)=f(u)−εgε(x,t,u) a bistable nonlinearity associated with a double-well potential whose well-depths can be slightly unbalanced. Given a rather general initial data u0 that is independent of ε, we perform a rigorous analysis of both the generation and the motion of interface. More precisely we show that the solution develops a steep transition layer within the time scale of order ε2|lnε|, and that the layer obeys the law of motion that coincides with the formal asymptotic limit within an error margin of order ε. This is an optimal estimate that has not been known before for solutions with general initial data, even in the case where gε≡0.Next we consider systems of reaction-diffusion equations of the form

This paper is concerned with an inhomogeneous nonlocal dispersal equation. We study the limit of the re-scaled problem of this nonlocal operator and prove that the solutions of the re-scaled equation converge to a solution of the Fokker-Planck equation uniformly. We then analyze the nonlocal dispersal equation of an inhomogeneous diffusion kernel and find that the heterogeneity in the classical diffusion term coincides with the inhomogeneous kernel when the scaling parameter goes to zero.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with the monotonicity and uniqueness of traveling waves for a reaction-diffusion model with quiescent stage. We first obtain the exponential decay rate of wave profiles, and then we show that any profile is strictly monotone by using the strong comparison principle. Furthermore, we prove the uniqueness (up to translation) of all traveling waves including even the waves with minimal speed.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the spatial dynamics of a nonlocal and time-delayed reaction-diffusion system, which is motivated by an age-structured population model with distributed maturation delay. The spreading speed c*, the existence of traveling waves with the wave speed c?c*, and the nonexistence of traveling waves with c<c* are obtained. It turns out that the spreading speed coincides with the minimal wave speed for monotone traveling waves.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with the stability/instability of a class of positive spiky steady states for a quasi-linear cross-diffusion system describing two-species competition. By detailed spectral analysis, it is proved that the spiky steady states for the related shadow system are linearly unstable and the spiky steady states for the original cross-diffusion system are non-linearly unstable.  相似文献

Several models have been proposed for describing the formation of animal coat patterns. We consider reaction-diffusion models due to Murray, which rely on a Turing instability for the pattern selection. In this paper, we describe the early stages of the pattern formation process for large domain sizes. This includes the selection mechanism and the geometry of the patterns generated by the nonlinear system on one-, two-, and three-dimensional base domains. These results are obtained by an adaptation of results explaining the occurrence of spinodal decomposition in materials science as modeled by the Cahn-Hilliard equation. We use techniques of dynamical systems, viewing solutions of the reaction-diffusion model in terms of nonlinear semiflows. Our results are applicable to any parabolic system exhibiting a Turing instability.  相似文献

In this paper the limit of vanishing Debye length in a bipolar drift-diffusion model for semiconductors with physical contact-insulating boundary conditions is studied in one-dimensional case. The quasi-neutral limit (zero-Debye-length limit) is proved by using the asymptotic expansion methods of singular perturbation theory and the classical energy methods. Our results imply that one kind of the new and interesting phenomena in semiconductor physics occurs.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the population dynamics of an invasive species in heterogeneous environment which is modeled by a diffusive logistic equation with free boundary condition. To understand the effect of the dispersal rate D and the parameter μ (the ratio of the expansion speed of the free boundary and the population gradient at the expanding front) on the dynamics of this model, we divide the heterogeneous environment into two cases: strong heterogeneous environment and weak heterogeneous environment. By choosing D and μ as variable parameters, we derive sufficient conditions for species spreading (resp. vanishing) in the strong heterogeneous environment; while in the weak heterogeneous environment, we obtain sharp criteria for the spreading and vanishing. Moreover, when spreading happens, we give an estimate for the asymptotic spreading speed of the free boundary. These theoretical results may have important implications for prediction and prevention of biological invasions.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with the traveling waves in a single species population model which is derived by considering the nonlocal dispersal and age-structure. If the birth function is monotone, then the existence of traveling wavefront is reduced to the existence of a pair of super and subsolutions without the requirement of smoothness. It is proved that the traveling wavefront is strictly increasing and unique up to a translation. The asymptotic behavior of traveling wavefronts is also obtained. If the birth function is not monotone, the existence of traveling wave solution is affirmed by introducing two auxiliary nonlocal dispersal equations with quasi-monotonicity.  相似文献

We prove the existence of a continuous family of positive and generally nonmonotone travelling fronts for delayed reaction-diffusion equations , when gC2(R+,R+) has exactly two fixed points: x1=0 and x2=K>0. Recently, nonmonotonic waves were observed in numerical simulations by various authors. Here, for a wide range of parameters, we explain why such waves appear naturally as the delay h increases. For the case of g with negative Schwarzian, our conditions are rather optimal; we observe that the well known Mackey-Glass-type equations with diffusion fall within this subclass of (∗). As an example, we consider the diffusive Nicholson's blowflies equation.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with the existence and asymptotic behavior of solutions of a nonlocal dispersal equation. By means of super-subsolution method and monotone iteration, we first study the existence and asymptotic behavior of solutions for a general nonlocal dispersal equation. Then, we apply these results to our equation and show that the nonnegative solution is unique, and the behavior of this solution depends on parameter λ in equation. For λλ1(Ω), the solution decays to zero as t; while for λ>λ1(Ω), the solution converges to the unique positive stationary solution as t. In addition, we show that the solution blows up under some conditions.  相似文献

A diffusive Lotka-Volterra type model with nonlocal delays for two competitive species is considered. The existence of a traveling wavefront analogous to a bistable wavefront for a single species is proved by transforming the system with nonlocal delays to a four-dimensional system without delay. Furthermore, in order to prove the asymptotic stability (up to translation) of bistable wavefronts of the system, the existence, regularity and comparison theorem of solutions of the corresponding Cauchy problem are first established for the systems on R by appealing to the theory of abstract functional differential equations. The asymptotic stability (up to translation) of bistable wavefronts are then proved by spectral methods. In particular, we also prove that the spreading speed is unique by upper and lower solutions technique. From the point of view of ecology, our results indicate that the nonlocal delays appeared in the interaction terms are not sensitive to the invasion of species of spatial isolation.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with the global stability of wavefronts with minimal speeds for degenerate nonlocal dispersal equations. By the method of super- and subsolutions and a squeezing technique, the wavefront with minimal speed is proved to be globally asymptotically stable with phase shift.  相似文献
