The multiplier ideals of a sum of ideals

We prove that if , are nonzero sheaves of ideals on a complex smooth variety , then for every we have the following relation between the multiplier ideals of , and :

A similar formula holds for the asymptotic multiplier ideals of the sum of two graded systems of ideals.

We use this result to approximate at a given point arbitrary multiplier ideals by multiplier ideals associated to zero dimensional ideals. This is applied to compare the multiplier ideals associated to a scheme in different embeddings.

Given a set X, $\mathsf {AC}^{\mathrm{fin}(X)}$ denotes the statement: “$[X]^{<\omega }\backslash \lbrace \varnothing \rbrace$ has a choice set” and $\mathcal {C}_\mathrm{R}\big (\mathbf {2}^{X}\big )$ denotes the family of all closed subsets of the topological space $\mathbf {2}^{X}$ whose definition depends on a finite subset of X. We study the interrelations between the statements $\mathsf {AC}^{\mathrm{fin}(X)},$ $\mathsf {AC}^{\mathrm{fin}([X]^{<\omega })},$ $\mathsf {AC}^{\mathrm{fin} (F_{n}(X,2))},$ $\mathsf {AC}^{\mathrm{fin}(\mathcal {\wp }(X))}$ and “$\mathcal {C}_\mathrm{R}\big (\mathbf {2}^{X}\big )\backslash \lbrace \varnothing \rbrace$has a choice set”. We show:

• (i) $\mathsf {AC}^{\mathrm{fin}(X)}$ iff $\mathsf {AC}^{\mathrm{fin}([X]^{<\omega } )}$ iff $\mathcal {C}_\mathrm{R}\big (\mathbf {2}^{X}\big )\backslash \lbrace \varnothing \rbrace$ has a choice set iff $\mathsf {AC}^{\mathrm{fin}(F_{n}(X,2))}$.
• (ii) $\mathsf {AC}_{\mathrm{fin}}$ ($\mathsf {AC}$ restricted to families of finite sets) iff for every set X, $\mathcal {C}_\mathrm{R}\big (\mathbf {2}^{X}\big )\backslash \lbrace \varnothing \rbrace$ has a choice set.
• (iii) $\mathsf {AC}_{\mathrm{fin}}$ does not imply “$\mathcal {K}\big (\mathbf {2}^{X}\big )\backslash \lbrace \varnothing \rbrace$ has a choice set($\mathcal {K}(\mathbf {X})$ is the family of all closed subsets of the space $\mathbf {X}$)
• (iv) $\mathcal {K}(\mathbf {2}^{X})\backslash \lbrace \varnothing \rbrace$ implies $\mathsf {AC}^{\mathrm{fin}(\mathcal {\wp }(X))}$ but $\mathsf {AC}^{\mathrm{fin}(X)}$ does not imply $\mathsf {AC}^{\mathrm{fin}(\mathcal {\wp }(X))}$.

We also show that “For every setX, “$\mathcal {K}\big (\mathbf {2}^{X}\big )\backslash \lbrace \varnothing \rbrace$has a choice set” iff “for every setX, $\mathcal {K}\big (\mathbf {[0,1]}^{X}\big )\backslash \lbrace \varnothing \rbrace$has a choice set” iff “for every product$\mathbf {X}$of finite discrete spaces,$\mathcal {K}(\mathbf {X})\backslash \lbrace \varnothing \rbrace$ has a choice set”.     

A Relation Between Closure Operators on a Small Category and Its Category of Presheaves

In this paper we show that each factorization structure on a small category , satisfying certain conditions, yields a presheaf on and a morphism of presheaves . We then give connections, and set up one to one correspondences, between subclasses of the following classes: (a) closure operators on (b) subobjects of (c) morphisms from to (d) weak Lawvere–Tierney topologies (e) weak Grothendieck topologies (f) closure operators on .     

Computing the multiplicative group of residue class rings

Let be a global field with maximal order and let be an ideal of . We present algorithms for the computation of the multiplicative group of the residue class ring and the discrete logarithm therein based on the explicit representation of the group of principal units. We show how these algorithms can be combined with other methods in order to obtain more efficient algorithms. They are applied to the computation of the ray class group modulo , where denotes a formal product of real infinite places, and also to the computation of conductors of ideal class groups and of discriminants and genera of class fields.

Biliaison classes of curves in

We characterize the curves in that are minimal in their biliaison class. Such curves are exactly the curves that do not admit an elementary descending biliaison. As a consequence we have that every curve in can be obtained from a minimal one by means of a finite sequence of ascending elementary biliaisons.

Geometry of chain complexes and outer automorphisms under derived equivalence

The two main theorems proved here are as follows: If is a finite dimensional algebra over an algebraically closed field, the identity component of the algebraic group of outer automorphisms of is invariant under derived equivalence. Some consequences of Rado’s selection lemma

We prove in set theory without the Axiom of Choice, that Rado’s selection lemma ( ${\mathbf{RL}}$ ) implies the Hahn-Banach axiom. We also prove that ${\mathbf{RL}}$ is equivalent to several consequences of the Tychonov theorem for compact Hausdorff spaces: in particular, ${\mathbf{RL}}$ implies that every filter on a well orderable set is included in a ultrafilter. On the semisimplicity conjecture and Galois representations

The semisimplicity conjecture says that for any smooth projective scheme over a finite field , the Frobenius correspondence acts semisimply on , where is an algebraic closure of . Based on the works of Deligne and Laumon, we reduce this conjecture to a problem about the Galois representations of function fields. Quiver varieties and finite dimensional representations of quantum affine algebras

We study finite dimensional representations of the quantum affine algebra using geometry of quiver varieties introduced by the author.

As an application, we obtain character formulas expressed in terms of intersection cohomologies of quiver varieties.
