A correlation between the second critical field Hc2 of the helix to paramagnetic transition and the magnetic specific heat C-peak was found in ZnCr2−xAlxSe4 spinel single crystals with x=0.15, 0.23. The specific heat peak is anomalously sharp for all finite magnetic fields used here and this points to a first order magneto-structural transition (from cubic to tetragonal symmetry). The C(T)-peak is increasingly suppressed as the external field increases. Approaching the Neel temperature TN, a broad ac-magnetic susceptibility peak is observed for zero dc-magnetic field. That peak does not show an energy loss and thus points towards a return to a second order type of transition. The magnetic contribution to the specific heat displays a sharp peak at TN and is maximal at the spin fluctuation temperature Tsf=34 K. Tsf is related to the maximum of the magnetic susceptibility at Tm=40 K (at 50 kOe) in the spin fluctuation region, as evidenced by the entropy exceeding 90% of the entropy calculated classically for the complete alignment of the Cr spins, (2−x)R ln(2S+1). The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) data indicate that Al-substitution does not affect Cr3+ 3d3 electronic configuration.  相似文献

Magnetic and heat capacity measurements have been carried out on the polycrystalline Gd1−xScxNi2 solid solutions (0≤x≤1), which crystallize in the cubic C15 Laves phases superstructure (space group F4?3m). These solid solutions are ferromagnetic with a Curie temperature below 76 K. Their Curie temperature decreases from 75.4 K for GdNi2 to 13.6 K for Gd0.2Sc0.8Ni2. At high temperatures, all solid solutions, except ScNi2, are Curie-Weiss paramagnets. The Debye temperature as well as phonon, conduction electron and magnetic contributions to the heat capacity have been determined from heat capacity measurements. The magnetocaloric effect has been estimated both in terms of isothermal magnetic entropy change and adiabatic temperature change for selected solid solutions in magnetic fields up to 3 T.  相似文献

Magnetic properties of amorphous Ge1−xMnx thin films were investigated. The thin films were grown at 373 K on (100) Si wafers by using a thermal evaporator. Growth rate was ∼35 nm/min and average film thickness was around 500 nm. The electrical resistivities of Ge1−xMnx thin films are 5.0×10−4∼100 Ω cm at room temperature and decrease with increasing Mn concentration. Low temperature magnetization characteristics and magnetic hysteresis loops measured at various temperatures show that the amorphous Ge1−xMnx thin films are ferromagnetic but the ferromagnetic magnetizations are changing gradually into paramagnetic as increasing temperature. Curie temperature and saturation magnetization vary with Mn concentration. Curie temperature of the deposited films is 80-160 K, and saturation magnetization is 35-100 emu/cc at 5 K. Hall effect measurement at room temperature shows the amorphous Ge1−xMnx thin films have p-type carrier and hole densities are in the range from 7×1017 to 2×1022 cm−3.  相似文献

Upon substitution of non-magnetic Al3+ for diamagnetic, low-spin, Co3+ in ferromagnetic La2MnCoO6, the ferromagnetic moment, measured at 82 K and 15 kOe, is found to increase initially with Al content and then decreases, though the magnetic transition temperature decreases continuously on increasing x in La2MnCo1−xAlxO6.  相似文献

We have studied the effect of Fe substitution on magnetic and magnetocaloric properties in La0.7Sr0.3Mn1−xFexO3 (x=0.05, 0.07, 0.10, 0.15, and 0.20) over a wide temperature range (T=10-400 K). It is shown that substitution by Fe gradually decreases the ferromagnetic Curie temperature (TC) and saturation magnetization up to x=0.15 but a dramatic change occurs for x=0.2. The x=0.2 sample can be considered as a phase separated compound in which both short-range ordered ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic phases coexist. The magnetic entropy change (−ΔSm) was estimated from isothermal magnetization curves and it decreases with increase of Fe content from 4.4 J kg−1 K−1 at 343 K (x=0.05) to 1.3 J kg−1 K−1 at 105 K (x=0.2), under ΔH=5 T. The La0.7Sr0.3Mn0.93Fe0.07O3 sample shows negligible hysteresis loss, operating temperature range over 60 K around room temperature with refrigerant capacity of 225 J kg−1, and magnetic entropy of 4 J kg−1 K−1 which will be an interesting compound for application in room temperature refrigeration.  相似文献

A systematic investigation of the structural, magnetic and electrical properties of a series of nanocrystalline La0.7SrxCa0.3−xMnO3 materials, prepared by high energy ball milling method and then annealed at 900 °C has been undertaken. The analysis of the XRD data using the Win-metric software shows an increase in the unit cell volume with increasing Sr ion concentration. The La0.7SrxCa0.3−xMnO3 compounds undergo a structural orthorhombic-to-monoclinic transition at x=0.15. Electric and magnetic measurements show that both the Curie temperature and the insulator-to-metal transition temperature increase from 259 K and 253 K correspondingly for La0.7Ca0.3MnO3 (x=0) to 353 K and 282 K, respectively, for La0.7Sr0.3MnO3 (x=0.3). It is argued that the larger radius of Sr2+ ion than that of Ca2+ is the reason to strengthen the double-exchange interaction and to give rise to the observed increase of transition temperatures. Using the phenomenological equation for conductivity under a percolation approach, which depends on the phase segregation of ferromagnetic metallic clusters and paramagnetic insulating regions, we fitted the resistivity versus temperature data measured in the range of 50-320 K and found that the activation barrier decreased with the raising Sr2+ ion concentration.  相似文献

The effect of Si/Ge ratio on resistivity and thermopower behavior has been investigated in the magnetocaloric ferromagnetic Gd5SixGe4−x compounds with x=1.7-2.3. Microstructural studies reveal the presence of Gd5(Si,Ge)4-matrix phase (5:4-type) along with traces of secondary phases (5:5 or 5:3-type). The x=1.7 and 2.0 samples display the presence of a first order structural transition from orthorhombic to monoclinic phase followed by a magnetic transition of the monoclinic phase. The alloys with x=2.2 and 2.3 display only magnetic transitions of the orthorhombic phase. A low temperature feature apparent in the AC susceptibility and resistivity data below 100 K reflects an antiferromagnetic transition of secondary phase(s) present in these compounds. The resistivity behavior study correlates with microstructural studies. A large change in thermopower of −8 μV/K was obtained at the magneto-structural transition for the x=2 compound.  相似文献

The characterization and magnetic properties of YFe12−xMox (x=2.0, 2.5 and 3.0) with the ThMn12-type structure, and the magnetocaloric effect of YFe9.5Mo2.5 were investigated. A directional growth was observed in YFe10Mo2 alloy. A broad peak in the zero-field-cooling (ZFC) magnetization curve of the YFe12−xMox compounds is ascribed to the existence of ferromagnetic clusters with different site moments and scattered orientations of the moments. The broad range of the peak is reduced with increasing Mo content. A weak peak is observed near 190 K in the ZFC curve of YFe9Mo3, which is associated with the 8i sites being mostly occupied by Mo atoms. YFe9.5Mo2.5 has a magnetic entropy change of −1.09 J/kg K for a field change of 5 T at 277 K.  相似文献

Heat capacity of two rare-earth orthoferrites HoFeO3 and LuFeO3 were measured between 1.8 and 200 K. A distinctly large and two small heat capacity anomalies were detected for HoFeO3 under zero magnetic field around 3.3, 53 and 58 K, respectively. The low-temperature anomaly with a peak at 3.3 K is due to the ordering of Ho3+ ions and the estimated magnetic entropy for this transition was favorably compared with the expected (R ln 2). Application of magnetic field significantly affects the positions and the magnitudes of the anomaly at 3.3 K. Energies of low-lying levels of the lowest J-term of Ho3+ ion were roughly estimated through analysis of the Schottky heat capacity.  相似文献

A normal thiospinel CuIr2S4 exhibits a temperature-induced metal-insulator (M-I) transition around 230 K with structural transformation, showing hysteresis on heating and cooling. On the other hand, CuCr2S4 has the same normal spinel structure without the structural transformation. CuCr2S4 has been found to be metallic and ferromagnetic with the Curie temperature Tc~377 K. In order to see the effect of substituting Cr for Ir on the M-I transition, we have carried out a systematic experimental study of electrical and magnetic properties of Cu(Ir1−xCrx)2S4. The M-I transition temperature shifts to lower temperature with increasing Cr-concentration x and this transition is not detected above x~0.05. The ferromagnetic transition temperature decreases as x is decreased and the transition does not occur below x~0.20.  相似文献

The structure, Raman spectroscopy, magnetization, and dielectric properties of delafossite-type oxide CuCr1−xAlxO2 have been characterized. It was found that Al substitution generates an anisotropic effect on the structure, besides magnetic dilution. The temperature dependence of all samples exhibits paramagnetic behavior at high temperature. Above x=0.2 the ferromagnetic transition at 120 K disappears. It is argued that Al substitution destabilizes the antiferromagnetic order of Cr3+ ions and modulates the spin configuration, leading to a weak ferromagnetism. The coupling between the magnetic order and ferroelectric order is also characterized.  相似文献

(In1−xFex)2O3 (x = 0.02, 0.05, 0.2) powders were prepared by a solid state reaction method and a vacuum annealing process. A systematic study was done on the structural and magnetic properties of (In1−xFex)2O3 powders as a function of Fe concentration and annealing temperature. The X-ray diffraction and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy results confirmed that there were not any Fe or Fe oxide secondary phases in vacuum-annealed (In1−xFex)2O3 samples and the Fe element was incorporated into the indium oxide lattice by substituting the position of indium atoms. The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy revealed that both Fe2+ and Fe3+ ions existed in the samples. Magnetic measurements indicated that all samples were ferromagnetic with the magnetic moment of 0.49-1.73 μB/Fe and the Curie temperature around 783 K. The appearance of ferromagnetism was attributed to the ferromagnetic coupling of Fe2+ and Fe3+ ions via an electron trapped in a bridging oxygen vacancy.  相似文献

We report on the analysis of optical transmittance spectra and the resulting ferromagnetic characteristics of sputtered Zn1−xCoxO films. Zn1−xCoxO films were prepared on (0001)-oriented Al2O3 substrates by the radio-frequency (rf) magnetron co-sputtering method. The XRD results showed that the crystallinity of films was properly maintained up to x=0.30 and no second phase peaks were detected up to x=0.40. The transmittance spectra showed both the increase of the absorption band intensity and the red shift of the absorption peak as well as the band edge with increasing x. We have proved experimentally that these changes depend on Co concentration. These optical properties suggest that sp-d exchange interactions and typical d-d transitions become activated with increasing x, which leads to the enhancement of ferromagnetic properties in Zn1−xCoxO films as shown in the AGM results. Therefore, it is concluded that the ferromagnetism derives from the substitution of Co2+ for Zn2+ without changing the wurtzite structure.  相似文献

The magnetocaloric properties of three samples of LaFe13−xyCoxSiy have been measured and compared to measurements of commercial grade Gd. The samples have (x=0.86, y=1.08), (x=0.94, y=1.01) and (x=0.97, y=1.07) yielding Curie temperatures in the range 276-288 K. The magnetization, specific heat capacity and adiabatic temperature change have been measured over a broad temperature interval. Importantly, all measurements were corrected for demagnetization, allowing the data to be directly compared. In an internal field of 1 T the maximum specific entropy changes were 6.2, 5.1 and 5.0 J/kg K, the specific heat capacities were 910, 840 and 835 J/kg K and the adiabatic temperature changes were 2.3, 2.1 and 2.1 K for the three LaFeCoSi samples respectively. For Gd in an internal field of 1 T the maximum specific entropy change was 3.1 J/kg K, the specific heat capacity was 340 J/kg K and the adiabatic temperature change was 3.3 K. The adiabatic temperature change was also calculated from the measured values of the specific heat capacity and specific magnetization and compared to the directly measured values. In general an excellent agreement was seen.  相似文献

The Shubnikov-de Haas (S-dH) results at 1.5 K for AlxGa1−xN/AlN/GaN heterostructures and the fast Fourier transformation data for the S-dH data indicated the occupation by a two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG) of one subband in the GaN active layer. Photoluminescence (PL) spectra showed a broad PL emission about 30 meV below the GaN exciton emission peak at 3.474 eV that could be attributed to recombination between the 2DEG occupying in the AlN/GaN heterointerface and photoexcited holes. A possible subband structure was calculated by a self-consistent method taking into account the spontaneous and piezoelectric polarizations, and one subband was occupied by 2DEG below the Fermi level, which was in reasonable agreement with the S-dH results. These results can help improve understanding of magnetotransport, optical, and electronic subband properties in AlxGa1−xAs/AlN/GaN heterostructures.  相似文献

Microstructure, phase transformation behavior and dielectric properties of BaTi1−x(Al1/2Nb1/2)xO3 (0.01≤x≤0.40) ceramics were investigated. A high level of (Al1/2Nb1/2)4+ substitution for Ti4+ ions was not conducive to the stability of the perovskite structure and resulted in the formation of BaAl2O4. As x was increased, lattice constants and unit cell volume decreased, reached a minimum at x=0.10 and then increased. The BaTi1−x(Al1/2Nb1/2)xO3 ceramics at room temperature experienced a transformation from ferroelectric to paraelectric phase with increasing (Al1/2Nb1/2)4+ concentration. Meanwhile, permittivity of the BaTi1−x(Al1/2Nb1/2)xO3 ceramics was markedly reduced, while Q value was slightly increased. Frequency dispersion of dielectric peak was obviously increased as x was increased from 0.01 to 0.10. It is of great interest that a dielectric abnormity represented by a broad dielectric peak at 200-400 K was observed for the composition with x=0.40.  相似文献

We present a detail study of the effect of excess metal atoms on the magnetic properties of Cu1+xCr2+yTe4 at 2-400 K. With the increase in x=0-1 and y<0.3, these compounds retain metallic behavior, while ferromagnetic ordering temperature reduces from 325 to 160 K. Our low field susceptibility χac measurements reveal a second transition on cooling below the ferromagnetic ordering; the transition at around 160-180 K intensifies with the excess amount of copper and chromium atoms. The value of spontaneous magnetization at 2 K remains between 2.6 and 2.9μB across all the compositions and it reduces with temperature as M(T)∼A0T3/2+A1T5/2, as expected for the excitation of Bloch's spin waves in a model of the Heisenberg ferromagnet. Our terminal composition Cu1.9Cr2.25Te4 showed only second transition at 160 K with short range magnetic order much above the transition temperature and in the absence of the specific heat jump at this temperature. The magnetic properties are explained as a result of random magnetic anisotropy in the excess-metal compositions induced by the interstitial atomic defects in their parent spinel structure. The large stuffing of cations has been made possible in the telluride compounds because of the large size of tellurium and also by the covalent bonding that stabilizes the defect structure.  相似文献

A series of phosphors with the composition Y3MnxAl5−2xSixO12 (x=0, 0.05, 0.1, 0.15, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5, 0.6) was prepared through solid state reactions. X-ray powder diffraction analysis of samples shows that when co-doping content does not exceed 16% of Al3+, equimolar co-doping of Mn2+ and Si4+ does not change the garnet structure of phosphors, but makes the interplanar distance to decrease a certain extent. However, if the co-doping content exceeds 16%, new phases will form in the samples. The excitation and emission spectra of samples show that Mn2+ in Y3MnxAl5−2xSixO12 emits broadband orange light (peak wavelength varies from 586 to 593 nm). With an increment in co-doping content, the emission intensity of the phosphors increases when the value of x is lower than 0.1 while it decreases when it is higher than 0.1 and the emission peak moves to a longer wavelength.  相似文献

Si1−xMnx diluted magnetic semiconductor (DMS) bulks were formed by using an implantation and annealing method. Energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and double-crystal rocking X-ray diffraction (DCRXD) measurements showed that the grown materials were Si1−xMnx crystalline bulks. Hall effect measurements showed that annealed Si1−xMnx bulks were p-type semiconductors. The magnetization curve as a function of the magnetic field clearly showed that the ferromagnetism in the annealed Si1−xMnx bulks originated from the interaction between interstitial and substitutional Mn+ ions, which was confirmed by the DCRXD measurements. The magnetization curve as a function of the temperature showed that the ferromagnetic transition temperature was approximately 75 K. The present results can help to improve understanding of the formation mechanism of ferromagnetism in Si1−xMnx DMS bulks.  相似文献

It is found that the c- Zr1−xErxW2O8−x/2 solid solutions which are well known to have isotropic NTE properties clearly exhibit oxygen-ionic conductance and their ionic conductivities are measured to be about 10−4 S cm−1 at 673 K, which is comparable to that of ceria-based solid electrolytes.  相似文献
