We develop the theory of conductance of a quantum dot which carries a spin and is coupled via RKKY interaction to another spin-carrying quantum dot. The found dependence of the differential conductance on the bias and magnetic field at a fixed RKKY interaction strength may allow one to distinguish between the possible ground states of the system. Transitions between the ground states are achieved by tuning the RKKY interaction, and the nature of these transitions can be extracted from the temperature dependence of the linear conductance. The feasibility of the corresponding measurements is evidenced by recent experiments by Craig et al.  相似文献

Quantum spin tunneling and Kondo effect are two very different quantum phenomena that produce the same effect on quantized spins, namely, the quenching of their magnetization. However, the nature of this quenching is very different so that quantum spin tunneling and Kondo effect compete with each other. Importantly, both quantum spin tunneling and Kondo effect produce very characteristic features in the spectral function that can be measured by means of single spin scanning tunneling spectroscopy and allows to probe the crossover from one regime to the other. We model this crossover, and the resulting changes in transport, using a non-perturbative treatment of a generalized Anderson model including magnetic anisotropy that leads to quantum spin tunneling. We predict that, at zero magnetic field, integer spins can feature a split-Kondo peak driven by quantum spin tunneling.  相似文献

We study the interplay between magnetic correlations of two Kondo impurities and superconducting singlet pairing. Performing a Schrieffer-Wolff transformation in the zero-bandwidth limit of the two-impurity Anderson model we obtain the Hamiltonian of two magnetic impurities and we add a superconducting term to the conduction electrons. The model allows us to study the effect of the magnetic correlation between the impurities on the superconducting ground state. At zero temperature, different superconducting ground states can be obtained depending on the magnitude of magnetic coupling between S1 and S2. For increasing coupling, the superconducting region is enlarged showing an interesting result: in the strong coupling limit, where the impurities are in a very strong ferromagnetic correlation state, half of the conduction electrons are decoupled from the local moments of the impurities and take advantage of the superconducting pairing lowering the ground state energy. On the contrary, when the coupling between S1and S2 decreases, the scenario of the two independent Kondo impurities in presence of superconductivity emerges and all the conduction electrons are involved in the pair breaking physics. At finite temperature, we obtain the phase diagram and we observe a region of parameters where the re-entrance phenomenon occurs.  相似文献

We study the effects of Kondo correlations on the transmission phase shift of a quantum dot coupled to two leads in comparison with the experimental determinations made by Aharonov-Bohm (AB) quantum interferometry. We propose here a theoretical interpretation of these results based on scattering theory combined with Bethe ansatz calculations. We show that there is a factor of 2 difference between the phase of the S-matrix responsible for the shift in the AB oscillations and the one controlling the conductance. Quantitative agreement is obtained with experimental results for two different values of the coupling to the leads.  相似文献

Strong correlations are known to severely reduce the mobility of charge carriers near half filling and thus have an important influence on the current carrying properties of grain boundaries in the high-T(c) cuprates. In this Letter we present an extension of the Gutzwiller projection approach to treat electronic correlations below as well as above half filling consistently. We apply this method to investigate the critical current through grain boundaries with a wide range of misalignment angles for electron- and hole-doped systems. For the latter excellent agreement with experimental data is found. We further provide a detailed comparison to an analogous weak-coupling evaluation.  相似文献

Competition of strong and decoupling is studied systematically for odd-odd mass nuclei as a function of the position of the Fermi surfacesε F (π) andε F (υ) and the deformationsβ andγ. As an example we use80Br. For a prolate deformation the odd proton likes to decouple while the odd neutron couples strongly. This favours a ground state angular momentum of 5 to 6. The strong coupling is described by the admixture of ad 5/2 nucleon. Only for the neutrons the admixture is so appreciably that it affects the spectrum and improves the agreement between theory and experiment for80Br.  相似文献

We investigate the role of magnetic fluctuations in the spectral properties of paramagnetic γ-Mn. Two methods are employed. The Local Density Approximation plus Dynamical Mean-Field Theory together with the numerically exact quantum Monte-Carlo solver is used as a reference for the spectral properties. Then the same scheme is used with the computationally less demanding perturbative spin-polarized fluctuation-exchange solver in combination with the Disordered Local Moment approach, and photoemission spectra are calculated within the one-step model. It is shown that the formation of local magnetic moments in γ-Mn is very sensitive to the value of Hund’s exchange parameter. Comparison with the experimental photoemission spectra demonstrates that γ-Mn is a strongly correlated system, with the Hubbard band formation, which cannot be described by the perturbative approach. However, minor change of parameters would transform it into a weakly correlated system.  相似文献

We study the Fano-Kondo effect in a closed Aharonov-Bohm (AB) interferometer which contains a single-level quantum dot and predict a frequency doubling of the AB oscillations as a signature of Kondo-correlated states. Using the Keldysh formalism, the Friedel sum rule, and the numerical renormalization group, we calculate the exact zero-temperature linear conductance G as a function of the AB phase phi and level position epsilon. In the unitary limit, G(phi) reaches its maximum 2e(2)/h at phi = pi/2. We find a Fano-suppressed Kondo plateau for G(epsilon) similar to recent experiments.  相似文献

We measure transport through gold grain quantum dots fabricated using electromigration, with magnetic impurities in the leads. A Kondo interaction is observed between dot and leads, but the presence of magnetic impurities results in a gate-dependent zero-bias conductance peak that is split due to a RKKY interaction between the spin of the dot and the static spins of the impurities. A magnetic field restores the single Kondo peak in the case of an antiferromagnetic RKKY interaction. This system provides a new platform to study Kondo and RKKY interactions in metals at the level of a single spin.  相似文献

The evolution of the Kondo effect and antiferromagnetic (AF) correlations with size reduction in CePt2 nanoparticles (3.1-26 nm) is studied by analysis of the temperature-dependent specific heat and magnetic susceptibility. The AF correlations diminish with size reduction. The Kondo effect predominates at small particle size with trivalent, small Kondo temperature (TK) magnetic regions coexisting with strongly mixed-valent, large TK nonmagnetic regions. We discuss the role of structural disorder, background density of states and the electronic quantum size effect on the results.  相似文献

The Kondo lattice model enlarged by an antiferromagnetic coupling J AF between the localized spins is here investigated using computational techniques. Our results suggest the existence of a d-wave superconducting phase close to half-filling mediated by antiferromagnetic fluctuations. This establishes a closer connection between theory and heavy fermion experiments than currently provided by the standard Kondo lattice model with J AF=0.  相似文献

We investigate the competition between magnetic order and local Kondo effect in a Kondo lattice model (i.e. the Coqblin-Schrieffer Hamiltonian extended to a lattice) in a mean-field approximation, taking account of the spin-orbit degeneracy of each localized f level. This leads to the definition of a dependent Kondo temperature. We study the Kondo phase and compare its energy with the energies of magnetic phases, when the number of the conduction band electron per site is near one. We present a phase diagram which shows the occurrence of three phases: Kondo, antiferromagnetic and paramagnetic phases. Our model in the mean-field approximation also shows a somewhat flat Kondo temperature, for large values of , as a function of the exchange coupling J between conduction and localized f electrons. Finally we show some scaling effects between and J and we define a corresponding Kondo temperature. Received 21 September 1998 and Received in final form 8 February 1999  相似文献

Low spin states (J < j) for transitional nuclei with a typical decoupling spectrum built on a single particle level j show systematic discrepancies between theory and experiment. To account for the discrepancies the decoupling scheme is extended to include also strong coupling. Excellent agreement including that for the low spin states is found in 187Ir to which this theory is applied.  相似文献

We study the role of spin correlations in nonlinear absorption due to transitions from a deep impurity level to states above a Fermi sea. We demonstrate that the Hubbard repulsion between two electrons at the impurity leads to a logarithmic divergence in chi(3) at the absorption threshold. This divergence is a manifestation of the Kondo physics in the nonlinear optical response of Fermi sea systems. We also show that, for off-resonant pump excitation, the pump-probe spectrum exhibits a narrow peak below the linear absorption onset. Remarkably, the light-induced Kondo temperature, which governs the shape of the Kondo-absorption spectrum, can be tuned by varying the intensity and frequency of the pump.  相似文献

We have performed spin-resolved measurements on a Kondo impurity in the presence of RKKY-type exchange coupling. By placing manganese phthalocyanine (MnPc) molecules on Fe-supported Pb islands, a Kondo system is devised which is exchange coupled to a magnetic substrate via conduction electrons in Pb, inducing spin splitting of the Kondo resonance. The spin-polarized nature of the split Kondo resonance and a spin filter effect induced by spin-flip inelastic electron tunneling are revealed by spin-polarized scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy.  相似文献
