The prediction of soil metal phytoavailability using the chemical extractions is a conventional approach routinely used in soil testing. The adequacy of such soil tests for this purpose is commonly assessed through a comparison of extraction results with metal contents in relevant plants. In this work, the fractions of selected risk metals (Al, As, Cd, Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni, Pb, Zn) that can be taken up by various plants were obtained by optimized BCR (Community Bureau of Reference) three-step sequential extraction procedure (SEP) and by single 0.5 mol L(-1) HCl extraction. These procedures were validated using five soil and sediment reference materials (SRM 2710, SRM 2711, CRM 483, CRM 701, SRM RTH 912) and applied to significantly different acidified soils for the fractionation of studied metals. The new indicative values of Al, Cd, Cu, Fe, Mn, P, Pb and Zn fractional concentrations for these reference materials were obtained by the dilute HCl single extraction. The influence of various soil genesis, content of essential elements (Ca, Mg, K, P) and different anthropogenic sources of acidification on extraction yields of individual risk metal fractions was investigated. The concentrations of studied elements were determined by atomic spectrometry methods (flame, graphite furnace and hydride generation atomic absorption spectrometry and inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry). It can be concluded that the data of extraction yields from first BCR SEP acid extractable step and soil-plant transfer coefficients can be applied to the prediction of qualitative mobility of selected risk metals in different soil systems.  相似文献

The optimised BCR sequential extraction procedure and a 4 h 1 mol L−1 HCl partial extraction have been performed on the NIST 2711 reference material for a suite of 12 elements (Cd, Sb, Pb, Al, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, As) using magnetic sector ICP-MS. A pseudo-total aqua regia digest of NIST 2711 has also been undertaken for quality assurance purposes, and comparison of the sum of the four BCR fractions, which included an aqua regia digest on the residue, with the pseudo-total aqua regia digest has been used to assess the accuracy of the BCR partitioning approach. As a result of this work, discrepancies between previous studies about BCR partitioning of elements in NIST 2711 have been discussed and an increase in confidence about the use of BCR partitioning scheme on seven elements (Cd, Pb, Al, Mn, Fe, Cu, Zn) in this standard material has been obtained. On the other hand, BCR partitioning for Sb, Cr, Co, Ni and As has been provided for the first time. Partial extraction results are also reported for the same 12 elements analysed by the optimised BCR procedure, with the partial extraction results exhibiting a strong correlation with the sum of the three labile steps of the BCR procedure.  相似文献

The single extractions with 15 extractants (agents) (H2O, KCl, NH4Cl, NH4F, CaCl2, BaCl2, CuCl2, LaCl3, Na2S2O4, (NH4)2C2O4, Na4P2O7, NTA, EDTA, DTPA, HCl), the optimised BCR (Community Bureau of Reference) three-step sequential extraction procedure (SEP) and the solid phase extraction (SPE) by the chelating ion-exchanger Iontosorb Salicyl (cellulose resin containing covalently bound salicylic acid functional groups) were used for the partitioning of Al in very acid soil samples taken from an area influenced by acid mine solutions. The precision, accuracy and repeatibility for all steps of the optimised BCR SEP were checked on the various reference materials (CRM 483 sewage sludge amended soil, CRM BCR 701 freshwater sediment, SRM 2710 and SRM 2711 Montana soils). Also the new indicative values of the optimised BCR SEP fractional Al concentrations were obtained for these reference materials. The aluminium amounts obtained by the used extraction procedures were valuated and discussed from the aspect of the Al concentration in the plants (grass) growing on the same studied soils. The aluminium toxicity indexes (ATI) calculated for the studied soils, the BaCl2 and acetic acid soil extracts and the grass stems and roots were used for the assessment of the Al toxicity to the plants. The ATI value was defined as the ratio of the nutrient cations (Ca, Mg, K, Na) concentration sum to the Al concentration. The flame atomic absorption spectrometry (LOQ = 0.2 mg l−1) and the inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (LOQ = 0.03 mg l−1) were used for the aluminium quantification.  相似文献

Abstract

The lack of uniformity in leaching procedures used to measure broadly defined forms of heavy metals does not allow the results to be compared world-wide nor the methods to be validated since the results obtained are “operationally defined”. An attempt was made to certify several mineral soils CRMs for single extraction by using acetic acid, EDTA and DTPA for Cd, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb and Zn. Recently, to complete the series of soil CRMs, an organically enriched soil was prepared SO25. For sediments a CRM 601 was produced and certified for metals extractable by using the BCR three step sequential extraction. Not all the trace elements were certified and only indicative values were given for some of them due to poor reproducibility. We performed a systematic study of the effect of the variables identified as potential sources of uncertainty in the use of this scheme. With this study the sources of uncertainty were revealed and an optimised version of the protocol was proposed. With this new version it was possible to certify all the trace elements studied. New sediment material S33 is now proposed for certification and additional data are given for the sediment CRM 601. This modified procedure was also applied to a soil CRM 483 and good results were obtained. This procedure may thus be applied to polluted soils.  相似文献

The accurate study of heavy metal speciation is important in environmental monitoring. There has been much work developing various operationally defined speciation methods for soil and sediment, but there is a need to compare the different approaches by evaluating them for the same sample. In this article, a kinetic method was applied for the heavy metal speciation of the two BCR reference materials, CRM601 and BCR701, which have been specifically developed as materials to evaluate the validated BCR three-step sequential extraction method. When EDTA was used as an extractant, 81.0% of Cd, 68.0% of Cu, 21.5% of Ni, 80.3% of Pb and 71.9% of Zn was extracted from CRM601. For BCR701, the removal ratios were 92.0, 52.3, 18.7, 50.6 and 67.5% with EDTA and 95.7, 25.2, 20.0, 52.4 and 68.5% with hydroxylamine hydrochloride as an extractant, for Cd, Cu, Ni, Pb and Zn respectively. A two-component kinetic model was applied to the extraction curve and the extractable metals were readily classified into two categories, namely, labile fraction and non-labile fractions. The rate constants obtained from the regression model were found to be useful in quantifying the lability of an element. The rate constants obtained from the labile fractions in BCR701 were higher than that of obtained from CRM601, which indicated the high lability of metals in BCR701. When compared with the sequential extraction data, it seemed that the lability of an element was positively correlated to the first step extraction fraction.  相似文献

A modified three-step sequential extraction procedure for the fractionation of heavy metals, proposed by the Commission of the European Communities Bureau of Reference (BCR) has been applied to the Slovak reference materials of soils (soil orthic luvisols, soil rendzina and soil eutric cambisol), which represent pedologically different types of soils in Slovakia. Analyses were carried out by flame or electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry (FAAS or ETAAS). The fractions extracted were: exchangeable (extraction step 1), reducible-iron/manganese oxides (extraction step 2), oxidizable-organic matter and sulfides (extraction step 3). The sum of the element contents in the three fractions plus aqua-regia extractable content of the residue was compared to the aqua-regia extractable content of the elements in the origin soils. The accuracy obtained by comparing the determined contents of the elements with certified values, using BCR CRM 701, certified for the extractable contents (mass fractions) of Cd, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb and Zn in sediment following a modified BCR-three step sequential extraction procedure, was found to be satisfactory.  相似文献

The effect of oxidation of anoxic sediment upon the extraction of 13 elements (Cd, Sn, Sb, Pb, Al, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, As) using the optimised Community Bureau of Reference of the European Commission (BCR) sequential extraction procedure and a dilute acid partial extraction procedure (4 h, 1 mol L−1 HCl) was investigated. Elements commonly associated with the sulfidic phase, Cd, Cu, Pb, Zn and Fe exhibited the most significant changes under the BCR sequential extraction procedure. Cd, Cu, Zn, and to a lesser extent Pb, were redistributed into the weak acid extractable fraction upon oxidation of the anoxic sediment and Fe was redistributed into the reducible fraction as expected, but an increase was also observed in the residual Fe. For the HCl partial extraction, sediments with moderate acid volatile sulfide (AVS) levels (1-100 μmol g−1) showed no significant difference in element partitioning following oxidation, whilst sediments containing high AVS levels (>100 μmol g−1) were significantly different with elevated concentrations of Cu and Sn noted in the partial extract following oxidation of the sediment. Comparison of the labile metals released using the BCR sequential extraction procedure (ΣSteps 1-3) to labile metals extracted using the dilute HCl partial extraction showed that no method was consistently more aggressive than the other, with the HCl partial extraction extracting more Sn and Sb from the anoxic sediment than the BCR procedure, whilst the BCR procedure extracted more Cr, Co, Cu and As than the HCl extraction.  相似文献

The aim of the presented work is to evaluate the selectivity of the operationally defined procedures for the aluminium fractionation in the reference materials and the environmental samples affected by the mining activity. The combination of the sequential optimized BCR (European Commission Community Bureau of Reference) three-step, the single (H2O, CaCl2, Na2S2O4, NH4F, (NH4)2C2O4, HCl, NTA, EDTA, DTPA) and the solid phase chelating ion-exchange extraction procedures was performed for the aluminium fractionation in the samples. The amount of the reactive Al determined by the solid phase extraction on the chelating resin Iontosorb Salicyl is the most important operationally defined fraction of aluminium from the aspect of its negative effects on the environment. The available Al concentrations obtained from the different operationally defined fractionation methods were compared. The flame atomic absorption spectrometry was used for the aluminium quantification. The X-ray diffraction analyse of the samples was performed for the mineral composition determination.The precision, the repeatability and the accuracy for the all steps of the optimized BCR sequential extraction procedure were checked on six reference materials (SRM 2710, RSS SO-2, RSS SO-4, CRM SA-B, SRM RTH 912, CRM 025-050). The precision and the repeatability were very good with the R.S.D. values ≤11%. The fraction specific accuracy was excellent. The new indicative fractional Al values in the used reference materials are published.  相似文献

The heavy metal (Cu, Fe, Co, Ni, Cd, Cr, Pb, Zn, and Mn) concentrations in soils and in vegetable samples, i.e. lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.), parsley (Petroselinum crispum), dill (Anethum graveolens), and onion (Allium cepa L.), taken from three urban vegetable gardens in Kayseri, Turkey, were determined by FAAS. The modified three-step sequential extraction procedure proposed by the European Bureau of References (BCR), now the Standards, Measurements and Testing Programme, was used in order to evaluate trace elements mobility in soil samples, and heavy-metal uptake by vegetables. Three operationally defined fractions were isolated using the BCR procedure: acid extractable (i.e. bound to carbonates), reducible (bound to Fe/Mn oxides), and oxidizable (bound to organic matter and sulphides). The vegetable samples were prepared to analysis using the wet-ashing procedure. To estimate the accuracy of the method used in analysis of the vegetable samples, the standard reference material (NIST SRM 1573a, Tomato leaves) was used. The results of recovery for all the elements were relatively satisfactory (87.7–108%). For the soil samples, the recovery values were calculated by proportioning the sum of the steps of the BCR procedure to those of the pseudototal digestion (i.e. aqua regia). In soils, the mobility of heavy metals followed the order Mn>Cd>Cu>Pb>Zn>Cr>Ni>Co>Fe. The relationship between the vegetable–metal and soil–extractable metal concentrations was examined in order to evaluate the bioavailability of metals, and the positive correlation, especially for the first (i.e. water, acid-soluble and exchangeable fraction) and for the third (i.e. oxidizable fraction) extraction steps, was obtained.  相似文献

The conventional three-stage BCR sequential extraction method was employed for the fractionation of heavy metals in sewage sludge samples from an urban wastewater treatment plant and from an olive oil factory. The results obtained for Cu, Cr, Ni, Pb and Zn in these samples were compared with those attained by a simplified extraction procedure based on microwave single extractions and using the same reagents as employed in each individual BCR fraction. The microwave operating conditions in the single extractions (heating time and power) were optimized for all the metals studied in order to achieve an extraction efficiency similar to that of the conventional BCR procedure. The measurement of metals in the extracts was carried out by flame atomic absorption spectrometry. The results obtained in the first and third fractions by the proposed procedure were, for all metals, in good agreement with those obtained using the BCR sequential method. Although in the reducible fraction the extraction efficiency of the accelerated procedure was inferior to that of the conventional method, the overall metals leached by both microwave single and sequential extractions were basically the same (recoveries between 90.09 and 103.7%), except for Zn in urban sewage sludges where an extraction efficiency of 87% was achieved. Chemometric analysis showed a good correlation between the results given by the two extraction methodologies compared. The application of the proposed approach to a certified reference material (CRM-601) also provided satisfactory results in the first and third fractions, as it was observed for the sludge samples analysed.  相似文献

NIST standard reference material SRM 2783 was employed to validate a high temperature, high pressure, two-stage microwave assisted acid digestion procedure using HNO3, HF and H3BO3 developed for the analysis of trace elements (including rare earths) in atmospheric fine particulate matter (PM2.5) prior to inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). This method quantitatively solubilized Na, Mg, Al, K, Ti, V, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, As, Se, Rb, Sb, Cd, Cs, Ba, Pb, Th, U and several rare earth elements (REEs) (La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Gd, Dy, Er, Sm and Eu) from SRM 1648 and SRM 2783. A small amount of HF in the first stage was required to dissolve silicates necessitating the corresponding addition of H3BO3 in second stage to dissolve fluoride precipitates of Mg, La, Ce and Th. The optimized microwave dissolution—ICP-MS method detected Na, Mg, Al, K, Ti, V, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, As, Se, Rb, Sr, Cd, Mo, Sb, Cs, Ba, La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Gd, Pb, Th and U at trace to ultra-trace levels in ambient airborne fine particles from three sites in North Carolina. La to light lanthanide signature ratios suggested that soil and motor vehicles are the dominant REE sources in SRM 2783 and PM2.5 samples collected during this study.  相似文献

In the present study the extraction of trace and major elements (Al, B, Ba, Ca, Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mg, Mn, Ni, Pb, Sr, Ti, V and Zn) from spruce (Picea) needle samples under various experimental conditions, i.e., extractant, temperature and time of extraction, was examined. The effectiveness of conventional, ultrasound- and microwave-assisted extraction techniques was investigated. The replacement of a sample decomposition procedure by leaching prior to multielemental analysis by ICP-AES as well as the aspect of fractionation analysis is discussed. Standard Reference Material (CRM 101-Norway spruce needles) was used for validation of the applied analytical procedures.  相似文献

An optimized BCR three-step sequential extraction procedure, several single extractions and the reactive aluminium determination after chelating ion-exchange on Iontosorb Salicyl were used for the fractionation of Al in soil samples from a mining area with sulphidic deposits. The aluminium amounts released by used extraction procedures were valuated and discussed. The new indicative values of fractional Al concentrations in five Chinese certified reference materials (GBW 07103, 07304, 07401, 07405, 07407) were determined after Al fractionation by optimized BCR three-step sequential extraction procedure. The aluminium toxicity indexes calculated for two different soil extracts and plant samples were used for assessment of Al toxicity to plants. It can be concluded that the most sensitive indicator of increasing aluminium toxicity to plants is determination of reactive Al species in soil solution by chelating ion-exchange solid phase extraction.The atomic absorption spectrometry with nitrous oxide-acetylene flame was used for determination of total Al amounts and the Al concentration in different extraction fractions as well.  相似文献

Summary The element contents of As, Cd, Co, Cu, Fe, Mn, Hg, Na, Pb und Zn of a fly ash from pulverised coal are certified. The procedures and their results for the homogenisation, the contamination and homogeneity checks and the analytical campaign are reported. The certified mass fractions and indicative values for Cr, Ni, Th, V and water soluble sulphate are given. The work was carried out within the framework of the activities of the Community Bureau of Reference (BCR) of the Commission of the European Communities.

Zusammenfassung In einer Flugasche aus Pulverkohle wurden die Elementgehalte an As, Cd, Co, Cu, Fe, Mn, Hg, Na, Pb und Zn zertifiziert. Über die Homogenisierung, die Kontrolle der Kontaminierung und Homogenität und die analytischen Ringversuche wird berichtet. Die zertifizierten Gehalte sowie der Gehalt von Cr, Ni, Th, V und wasserlöslichem Sulfat werden gegeben. Die Arbeit wurde ausgeführt im Rahmen des Programms des Referenzbüros der Kommission der Europäischen Gemeinschaften (BCR).

The conventional four-step sequential extraction method and the EDTA and acetic acid single extraction procedures were applied to sewage sludge and sediment samples. The results obtained with these samples for Cu, Cr, Ni, Pb and Zn using the Tessier method were compared with those supplied by the two single extraction procedures employed. In addition, the Tessier method was also applied to a reference material, CRM 483, and these results were also compared with the certified EDTA and acetic acid values for this sample. As a result, good agreement was found between the metal contents released in the first three fractions of the Tessier method and those leached by the simpler single extraction procedures for the most of the elements studied. Subsequently, the conventional EDTA and acetic acid extraction methods were accelerated by means of microwave energy, in order to reduce the operating time. The extraction efficiency of the first three fractions of the Tessier method was compared with that obtained using the optimised microwave single extraction procedures and only in sewage sludge and CRM 483 samples were satisfactory results found for all the elements studied, except Cr and Pb. This means that the microwave single extraction procedures optimised in this work could be employed as screening methods to evaluate rapidly the easiest mobilizable heavy metals in these samples, although more samples should be analysed to determine their general applicability. The application of the accelerated single extraction procedures to a reference material, CRM 483, provided satisfactory results for all the elements studied, except for Cr in both methods and for Pb in the acetic acid extracts.  相似文献

The modified BCR three-step sequential extraction procedure has been applied to two different samples of urban particulate matters (PM). The distribution of selected trace elements As, Cd, Cr, Mn, Ni, Pb, Zn was investigated and, in a comparative study, the presence of common organic air filters in extraction procedures was evaluated. Analytes in separate fractions were determined by ICP-OES and GFAAS, respectively, depending on concentration levels. While, due to air filters, a significant increase of some analytes mobility in individual fractions has been observed in case of the jet-milled PM (tunnel Letna), but in case of the PKC sample such effect was not found. The analyte impurities built in some filters has been tested, and the impact on the reliability of analyte results has been discussed. The arsenic species occurrence and their stability in presence of air filters (size 47 mm) were investigated in both urban PM samples as well, using HPLC-ICP-MS technique. Analyses of nutritive elements are routinely performed in grass or hay for animal feed in order to improve the state of health and growth of domestic animals. To control the quality of such determinations, the Community Bureau of Reference (BCR) so far has produced two certified reference materials: Hay Powder (CRM 129) and Rye Grass (CRM 281). After a careful preparation procedure of the materials, a homogeneity study and a long-term stability study, the contents of the elements Ca, K, Mg, P, S, Zn, I, N and Kjeldahl-N were certified in CRM 129, whereas CRM 281 was certified for As, B, Cd, Cu, Hg, Mn, Mo, Ni, Pb, Sb, Se and Zn. This paper presents the certification exercise and especially concentrates on the elements I, B and Mo as examples of analytical work. Indicative values for Co, Cr, Fe, Cl and Na were also obtained.  相似文献

Sequential extraction procedure (acid extractable, reducible, oxidizable, and residual) proposed by BCR was applied for the determination of trace metals in the River Yesilirmak sediments, Tokat, Turkey. The determination of trace metals in sediment samples was performed by flame atomic absorption spectrometry. The proposed method showed satisfactory recovery, detection limits and standard deviation for trace metals determination in sediment samples. Generally, most of the elements were found in the oxidizable and residual fractions. The total concentrations of trace metals analyzed were found to be (mg/kg) Cu: 37.9, Mn: 392.2, Zn: 126.2, Fe: 3726, and Pb: 29.6, respectively. Results obtained are in agreement with data reported in the literature.  相似文献

In this paper we investigate alternatives to mechanical stirring for the extraction of the mobile fraction of metals from sediment, and analyze whether these techniques can reduce extraction time and improve reproducibility. We compare the quantities of metal extracted from BCR601 and BCR701 certified sediments using ultrasound bath, microwave-assisted extraction and the first step in the certified BCR sequential extraction procedure. Some environmentally important not-certified metals such as As, Mn, Co, Fe and Al have been included in this study. In the case of microwave-assisted extraction, we compare tests in which samples are exposed to constant, low power irradiation with tests using pulsed high power.

In the tests using the ultrasound bath, less metal was extracted than with the other extractive techniques and standard deviations were comparable to those obtained with the BCR procedure; in assays using microwaves at constant power, extraction efficiencies were different for different metals and for different reference materials and, in some cases, standard deviations were higher than those for the reference method. In contrast, tests with microwaves and constant temperature produced encouraging results: R.S.D.s lay in the 2–4% range, both for certified and not-certified metals; these values are very low compared to those for the reference method. Extraction efficiencies for certified metals were close to 100% for Cd, Zn, Cu and Ni and around 80% for Pb and Cr.  相似文献

A method for the fast sequential extraction of toxic elements in contaminated soil samples using an ultrasonic water bath, followed by determination with inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES), was developed and compared with other methods introduced in the literature. The five-step sequential extraction (Tessier scheme) was shortened using ultrasound-assisted sequential extraction (UASE). The optimization of the five-step sequential extraction was based on the analysis of SRM 2710 using Tessiers’s method as a reference. Several extracting solutions with different sonication times and temperatures were tested in the optimization procedure. Concentrations of arsenic, cadmium, copper, lead, and zinc were determined in SRM 2710, SRM 2711, and contaminated soil samples with high accuracy and precision. The certified acid-leachable concentrations of the SRM 2710 were obtained for all elements investigated by using an optimized UASE method. Tessiers’s method yielded total element concentrations that were too high. The determination of zinc in SRM 2711 yielded concentrations that were too low, whereas arsenic determination yielded concentrations that were too high by the UASE method and analysis by ICP-OES. The analysis of the SRMs showed that the UASE method is highly comparable with the other methods used for such purposes. The major advantages of the UASE method are the high treatment rate (40 samples simultaneously with a sonication time of 54 min) and a low sample and reagent usage.  相似文献
