The sequential extraction procedure proposed by the Standard, Measurements and Testing program "SM&T" of the European Union has been applied to evaluate the amounts of Cr, Cu, Mn, Ni, Pb and Zn, extracted at each stage and indirectly their mobility and bioavailability in soil and sediment samples from a polluted area. Analysis of the extracts was carried out by flame atomic absorption spectrometry (FAAS). No significant matrix interferences were found except for Cr in the acetic acid and hydroxylammonium chloride extracts, which required determination by the standard additions method. Both of soils and sediments studied show similar partitioning of Mn, Ni, Cu and Cr. Mn and Ni can be considered to have significant component bound to the acido-soluble fraction, whereas, Cr and Cu occur largely in the organic and residual phases. The partitioning of Pb and Zn was different between soil and sediment. In terms of mobility and bioavailability, in soils, Ni and Mn can be regarded as moderately available followed by a lower availability of Pb while Cu, Zn and Cr have a very limited availability. In sediments, a higher availability (short-medium term) of Mn and Zn was presumed followed by a lower availability of Ni and Pb, whereas, Cu and Cr, occurring largely in the organic and residual phases, were of very limited availability.  相似文献

The effect of oxidation of anoxic sediment upon the extraction of 13 elements (Cd, Sn, Sb, Pb, Al, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, As) using the optimised Community Bureau of Reference of the European Commission (BCR) sequential extraction procedure and a dilute acid partial extraction procedure (4 h, 1 mol L−1 HCl) was investigated. Elements commonly associated with the sulfidic phase, Cd, Cu, Pb, Zn and Fe exhibited the most significant changes under the BCR sequential extraction procedure. Cd, Cu, Zn, and to a lesser extent Pb, were redistributed into the weak acid extractable fraction upon oxidation of the anoxic sediment and Fe was redistributed into the reducible fraction as expected, but an increase was also observed in the residual Fe. For the HCl partial extraction, sediments with moderate acid volatile sulfide (AVS) levels (1-100 μmol g−1) showed no significant difference in element partitioning following oxidation, whilst sediments containing high AVS levels (>100 μmol g−1) were significantly different with elevated concentrations of Cu and Sn noted in the partial extract following oxidation of the sediment. Comparison of the labile metals released using the BCR sequential extraction procedure (ΣSteps 1-3) to labile metals extracted using the dilute HCl partial extraction showed that no method was consistently more aggressive than the other, with the HCl partial extraction extracting more Sn and Sb from the anoxic sediment than the BCR procedure, whilst the BCR procedure extracted more Cr, Co, Cu and As than the HCl extraction.  相似文献

The work presents an investigation on metal availability in sediments during 13 months using the dispersive-energy X-ray fluorescence (EDXRF) and atomic emission spectrometry with induced argon plasma (ICP-OES) techniques and single extraction (0.1 mol l−1 HCl) and Tessie’s sequential speciation methods. The EDXRF technique could yield essentially the same profile as ICP-OES for the seasonal variation of metals in sediments, but in a more practical way. The sequential extraction procedure (SEP) was more efficient in metal dissolution than single extraction. The Pb, Ni, Al, Cr, and Fe elements were less efficiently extracted with single extraction in relation to sequential extraction. For Co both methodologies were equivalent, but for Cu and Mn the extraction was higher with single extraction. Single extraction does not mobilize Pb, Ni, Al, Cr, and Fe adsorbed on oxides and bound to organic matter. However for Cu and Mn, not only extracted these metals from the four fractions, but it also dissolved part of the fifth fraction (residual). Principal Component Analysis discriminated seasonal variations in the content of several metals, mainly Fe, Co, Ni, and Zn. The mobility of metallic ions in the sediments is conditioned to the seasonal flow of organic and inorganic material coming from the river or by the erosion of adjacent soils.  相似文献

The optimised BCR sequential extraction procedure and a 4 h 1 mol L−1 HCl partial extraction have been performed on the NIST 2711 reference material for a suite of 12 elements (Cd, Sb, Pb, Al, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, As) using magnetic sector ICP-MS. A pseudo-total aqua regia digest of NIST 2711 has also been undertaken for quality assurance purposes, and comparison of the sum of the four BCR fractions, which included an aqua regia digest on the residue, with the pseudo-total aqua regia digest has been used to assess the accuracy of the BCR partitioning approach. As a result of this work, discrepancies between previous studies about BCR partitioning of elements in NIST 2711 have been discussed and an increase in confidence about the use of BCR partitioning scheme on seven elements (Cd, Pb, Al, Mn, Fe, Cu, Zn) in this standard material has been obtained. On the other hand, BCR partitioning for Sb, Cr, Co, Ni and As has been provided for the first time. Partial extraction results are also reported for the same 12 elements analysed by the optimised BCR procedure, with the partial extraction results exhibiting a strong correlation with the sum of the three labile steps of the BCR procedure.  相似文献

The current BCR procedure for metal fractionation recommended by the Standard Measurement and Testing Programme requires rather time-consuming sample pretreatment. Ultrasonic energy seems to be an attractive alternative for leaching metal from solid samples into a liquid extractant phase. This study aims at optimizing ultrasonic extraction in order to replace the BCR method of leaching using acetic acid and to apply the procedure of assessing element mobility in bottom sediment rich in moderately soluble carbonate minerals. The application of ICP-MS allowed the determination of As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Pb, Ni, Tl and Zn in extracts, in a wide range of concentration without any special treatment. Finally, 40’min extraction in an ultrasonic bath was proposed for evaluation of the mobile fraction of As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Pb and Zn as an assessment of environmental risk. The recovery of the ultrasound-assisted extraction in comparison to the shake-filter method, as applied in the common BCR procedure, was slightly higher than 100% for As, Cr and Pb, reasonably high (about 70%) for Cd, Zn and Cd, but did not exceed 21% for Tl. Also, the mobility and extractability (relative mobility) of the studied elements from sediment collected over one year were compares. According to the results obtained after 40’min of ultrasound-assisted extraction it can be concluded that mobility did not change over one year for Cr, Cu, As, Cd, Ni and Tl, but noticeable differences for Zn and Pb were observed. The total content of all studied elements was almost the same in samples taken in the years 2003 and 2004, respectively.  相似文献

The chloroform extraction of 32 elements (Fe, Co, Ni, Zn, Cd, Ge, Sn, Pb, V, As, Sb, Bi, Cu, Ag, Au, Mn, Re, Ga, In, Tl, Ce, Se, Te, Cr, Mo, U, Pt, Pd, Rh, Ir, Ru and Os) from O.1-10M hydrochloric acid media in the presence of potassium ethyl xanthate has been studied. The oxidation states in which some elements react, and potential analytical separations, are discussed. Pd(II), As(III) and Se(IV) are completely extracted as ethyl xanthate complexes, Te(IV) is almost completely extracted, and Au(III) is largely extracted over the range of acid concentration investigated. Mn(II), Zn, Rh(III), Ir(IV), Ru(III), Os(IV), Cr(III), Cr(VI), Ce(III) and Ce(IV) are not extracted. Ge is partly extracted from 6-10M media as the chloro-complex. Depending on the acid concentration, the remaining elements are all partially extracted as xanthate complexes.

Two approaches have been used to investigate changes in the nature of metal binding in river sediments caused by atmospheric oxygen. Firstly, non-inert and inert sample preparation were applied, in combination with sequential extraction, to determine for which metals inert sample preparation is necessary for correct determination of metal mobility under environmental conditions. Secondly, the metal contents of sediments sampled before and after a river weir were fractionated by sequential extraction to study the effect of the oxygen impact at the weir on heavy metal mobility in the sediments. Different grain-size fractions from one sample were also extracted, to enable selection of the upper grain-size limit most suitable for answering this analytical question. The results showed the need for the inert sample preparation technique for Cd, Zn, Pb, Mn, and Fe, but not for Co, Ni, Cu, and Cr. No significant change of heavy metal mobility at the weir could be proved, although the mobilization behavior of some elements was different. The optimum upper grain-size limit was 63 microm.  相似文献

The purpose of this research was to develop an optimized pretreatment procedure for toxic metals (Pb, Cd, Zn and Cu) content in fly ash from a municipal waste incinerator. In addition, modified sequential extraction procedures were used to characterize the chemical composition of the fly ash samples. The sequential extraction resolved the fly ash elements into the following chemical forms: soluble, exchangeable, carbonate, oxide, organic, and silicate compounds. Certified reference city waste incineration ash (BCR.176) was used as target ash samples. A H2O2+HNO3+HF mixed acid digestion solution with a low temperature evaporation procedure was selected as optimal for the fly ash digestion. The digested solution was analyzed by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP‐MS), which effectively determined the concentrations of the toxic metal elements in BCR.176. Except for Cd, the recovery of Pb, Zn, and Cu under H2O2+HNO3+HF digestion and their sequential extraction procedures were higher than 95%. The relative standard deviations (RSD) for recoveries of the four elements were within 10%. Furthermore, the sequential extraction procedure's results provided information on the potential mobility of the studied elements. Most of the Cd was bound to water‐soluble and carbonate material in the fly ash samples. Most of the Pb, Zn, and Cu was released to carbonates and bound to organic matter in the fly ash samples.  相似文献

This study considers the selectivity of the extractants used in a sequential extraction scheme for metals mobility assessment by analyzing individual mineral phases previously coprecipitated or sorbed with trace metals. The scheme evaluated was a modification of the Tessier et al. [A. Tessier, P.G.C. Campbell, M. Bisson, Anal. Chem. 51 (1979) 844] sequential procedure proposed by the authors. The phases studied were calcite, amorphous iron oxide, hausmannite, humic acid, kaolinite and illite. Selective extractions were obtained for As, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb and Zn in metal-coprecipitated phases whereas NH(2)OH-HCl was not selective for the extraction of Hg and Cd coprecipitated in hausmannite and amorphous iron oxide, respectively. Otherwise, Cd, Hg, Ni and Zn sorbed on the different phases were released with MgCl(2) and NaOAc/HOAc, but stronger reagents were needed to release As, Cr, Cu and Pb.  相似文献

In environmental pollution studies on solid materials sequential extraction techniques are used for the identification of the main binding sites of trace metals. A four-step sequential extraction procedure was applied to the determination of the distribution of elements like Cd, Cu, As, Pb, Cr, Ni, Zn, Al, Fe, and Mn in sediment samples collected in the Lake Balaton. The fractions were (1) exchangeable and bound to carbonate, (2) bound to Fe/Mn oxide, (3) bound to organic matter and sulfides, and (4) acid-soluble. Elements were mainly accumulated in the stable, acid-soluble fractions. Arsenic and Cd-ions were found in low concentration (1.2–13 mg/kg and < 1 mg/kg, respectively) in the samples. Based on the results determined at 15 sampling points it can be stated that the Lake Balaton has not yet been polluted by the elements investigated.  相似文献

The samples of U deposits from Podlasie Depression (East Poland) and Peribaltic Syneclise (Northeast Poland) were studied to state the U and accompanied metal content and to estimate a potential environmental impact caused by the studied area. Sequential extraction is an effective method for assessing the heavy metal behaviour in environment in such environmental materials as soils, sediments, different wastes and ores.

The modified Bureau of Reference of the European Commission sequential extraction procedure has been used for fractionation study of nine elements (U, V, Mn, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Cd and Pb) in two kinds of U ores: dictyonema shale and sandstone. The total content and the content in each fraction of metals of interest were determined by the inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry method.

The obtained results show the high mobility of such elements as Co, Zn and Ni in shale and U, Co and Mn in sandstone. These results make it possible to assess the environmental risk associated with heavy metals occurring in tested U-bearing ores.  相似文献

Influence of heavy metals was investigated by conducting various tests on the samples collected from aquaculture shrimp in Selangor, Malaysia. The concentration of heavy metals in the sludge and potential of mobility based on its association forms was studied. Two sequential extraction methods (five stages Tessier method and three steps BCR method) were used to determine the binding forms of the metals. From the analysis, Ca, Fe and Mn were found to be highest concentrated metals compared to Zn, Cu, Cr, Cd and Pb in aquaculture shrimp sludge. From the sequential extraction, Cd, Mn and Pb were mostly found in exchangeable/carbonate form, showed its susceptibility to be leached easily. Also Cu and Zn were extracted predominantly in oxidizable form. All metal concentrations (except Cd, Zn and Cu) were extracted to be higher in residual fraction in this method. The results of BCR method are totally similar to the five stages Tessier method. By comparing the percent of recovery, the BCR method was better than Tessier method. Nevertheless for both methods the percent of their recoveries were acceptable. For Pseudototal metal digestion, although the concentration of Cd is less than other heavy metals, it is very harmful as a fertilizer because Cd is one of the heavy metals that might be in the leaf or fruit of plants. Also for investigation of Ca in the sludge, this element was measured and high amounts of that show sludge is useful for growing of plant. The results of direct digestion of heavy metals show that with the control of Cd in this sludge we can use this sludge as fertilizer in soils for agriculture but it is better if it is used for fruitless plants.  相似文献

The chloroform extraction of 30 elements (Fe, Co, Ni, Zn, Cd, Ge, Sn, V, As, Sb, Bi, Cu, Ag, Au, Mn, Re, Ga, In, Tl, Se, Te, Cr, Mo, U, Pt, Pd, Rh, Ir, Ru and Ce) from 0.1-8M sulphuric acid in the presence of potassium ethyl xanthate has been studied. Pd(II), Bi, As(III), Sb(III), Se(IV) and Te(IV) are completely extracted and Au(III) is largely extracted over the range of acid concentration investigated. Fe(II), Tl(I), Rh(III) and Cr(VI) are only slightly extracted and Se(VI), Te(VI), Ru(III), Cr(III), Mn(II), Zn, Ce(IV), Ir(IV) and Ge(IV) are not extracted at all. Depending on the acid concentration, the remaining elements are all partly extracted. Results are compared with those obtained in an earlier study of the extraction of xanthate complexes from hydrochloric acid media. The processes involved in the formation of some xanthate complexes and potential analytical separations are discussed.  相似文献

A modified three-step sequential extraction procedure for the fractionation of heavy metals, proposed by the Commission of the European Communities Bureau of Reference (BCR) has been applied to the Slovak reference materials of soils (soil orthic luvisols, soil rendzina and soil eutric cambisol), which represent pedologically different types of soils in Slovakia. Analyses were carried out by flame or electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry (FAAS or ETAAS). The fractions extracted were: exchangeable (extraction step 1), reducible-iron/manganese oxides (extraction step 2), oxidizable-organic matter and sulfides (extraction step 3). The sum of the element contents in the three fractions plus aqua-regia extractable content of the residue was compared to the aqua-regia extractable content of the elements in the origin soils. The accuracy obtained by comparing the determined contents of the elements with certified values, using BCR CRM 701, certified for the extractable contents (mass fractions) of Cd, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb and Zn in sediment following a modified BCR-three step sequential extraction procedure, was found to be satisfactory.  相似文献

A simple, rapid, and highly selective method for the separation of molybdenum from a large number of elements of analytical importance has been developed. The method is based on the extraction of a Mo(V)-ferron (7-iodo-8-hydroxyquinoline-5-sulphonic acid) complex into trioctylamine-chloroform in a sulphuric acid medium using ascorbic acid as a reductant. Many elements such as Re(VII), W(VI), U(VI), Th(IV), Cr(III), Cr(VI), V(V), Ce(IV), Ru(III), Co(II), Ni(II), Mn(II), Fe(II), Fe(III), Cd(II), Mg(II), Cu(II), Al(III), Zn(II), Pb(II), Ag(I), and As(V) are not extracted under the conditions proposed and, thus, molybdenum can be easily separated without any interference. Sulphate, chloride, nitrate, phosphate, and oxalate anions have no effect on the extraction of molybdenum. However, zirconium and palladium interfere seriously. The ratio of Mo: ferron: TOA in the extracted species is found to be 1: 1: 3 using Job’s method of continuous variations. This value has been further confirmed by the mole-ratio method. The text was submitted by the authors in English.  相似文献

The modified four-step BCR sequential extraction procedure (exchangeable and weak acid available species, reducible, oxidisable and residual fractions) was used to examine the distribution of As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Pb, and Zn with soil depth in an area (Baia Mare — Bozanta, Romania) with both high natural level of elements considered as toxic and historical pollution resulting from nonferrous metallurgy. The BCR approach proved a high metal input of anthropogenic origin down to 40 cm, while at lower depths the naturally elevated metal content must be considered. Results of the partitioning study and XRD analysis of solid matrix showed the greatest potential for chemical remobilisation of Cd, Zn, and Cu in weak acidic medium as well as their affinity for the oxidisable fraction (organic matter/sulphide). The tendency of Cr, Pb, and As to be immobilised as residual or reducible species on Fe-Mn oxides was evident. Although the partitioning of As in chemically inactive forms such as scorodite (FeAsO4 · 2H2O) soluble under reducible conditions and beudantite (PbFe3(AsO4)(SO4)(OH)2)), a residual species soluble in acid media, chemical mobilisation from soil in groundwater was confirmed. Dynamic processes of metal retention in soil under different conditions, namely acidic, reducing or oxidisable, were predicted from the Pearsonșs correlation analysis of element species with soil characteristics and components such as Fe, Mn, organic matter content, pH, and total element content, respectively. At the moment of the study, soil and groundwater in the area were found to be polluted with As, Cd, Cu, Pb and Zn. The elements Cd, Cr, Cu, Mn, Ni, Pb and Zn were determined in dust samples collected from air conditioner (AC) filters from 15 commercial sites of Lahore using flame atomic absorption spectroscopy (FAAS). The elements Cr, Mn and Zn were also determined using instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA). The results obtained showed that higher amounts of these metals were measured in these dust samples than normally found in soil. This was especially true for Cd, Cu, Pb and Zn. Generally the amounts of Cd, Cr and Mn did not vary throughout the city of Lahore but the amounts of the traffic related Cu, Pb and Zn elements had the more variable ranges of 30–140, 30–230 and 74–2810 mg/kg respectively. The concentrations obtained for Cr, Mn and Zn by INAA were found to be higher than those obtained using FAAS. Analysis of the data obtained showed the digestion procedure employed to be the possible cause for this occurrence. It was also found that Mn was being over-estimated by INAA due to the interference from the Mg peak.  相似文献

The prediction of soil metal phytoavailability using the chemical extractions is a conventional approach routinely used in soil testing. The adequacy of such soil tests for this purpose is commonly assessed through a comparison of extraction results with metal contents in relevant plants. In this work, the fractions of selected risk metals (Al, As, Cd, Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni, Pb, Zn) that can be taken up by various plants were obtained by optimized BCR (Community Bureau of Reference) three-step sequential extraction procedure (SEP) and by single 0.5 mol L(-1) HCl extraction. These procedures were validated using five soil and sediment reference materials (SRM 2710, SRM 2711, CRM 483, CRM 701, SRM RTH 912) and applied to significantly different acidified soils for the fractionation of studied metals. The new indicative values of Al, Cd, Cu, Fe, Mn, P, Pb and Zn fractional concentrations for these reference materials were obtained by the dilute HCl single extraction. The influence of various soil genesis, content of essential elements (Ca, Mg, K, P) and different anthropogenic sources of acidification on extraction yields of individual risk metal fractions was investigated. The concentrations of studied elements were determined by atomic spectrometry methods (flame, graphite furnace and hydride generation atomic absorption spectrometry and inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry). It can be concluded that the data of extraction yields from first BCR SEP acid extractable step and soil-plant transfer coefficients can be applied to the prediction of qualitative mobility of selected risk metals in different soil systems.  相似文献
