From Endomorphisms to Automorphisms and Back: Dilations and Full Corners   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
When S is a discrete subsemigroup of a discrete group G suchthat G = S–1S, it is possible to extend circle-valuedmultipliers from S to G, to dilate (projective) isometric representationsof S to (projective) unitary representations of G, and to dilate/extendactions of S by injective endomorphisms of a C*-algebra to actionsof G by automorphisms of a larger C*-algebra. These dilationsare unique provided they satisfy a minimality condition. The(twisted) semigroup crossed product corresponding to an actionof S is isomorphic to a full corner in the (twisted) crossedproduct by the dilated action of G. This shows that crossedproducts by semigroup actions are Morita equivalent to crossedproducts by group actions, making powerful tools available tostudy their ideal structure and representation theory. The dilationof the system giving the Bost–Connes Hecke C*-algebrafrom number theory is constructed explicitly as an application:it is the crossed product C0(Af)Q*+, corresponding to the multiplicativeaction of the positive rationals on the additive group Af offinite adeles.  相似文献

Let G be a unitary, symplectic or special orthogonal group over a locally compact non-archimedean local field of odd residual characteristic. We construct many new supercuspidal representations of G, and Bushnell–Kutzko types for these representations. Moreover, we prove that every irreducible supercuspidal representation of G arises from our constructions.  相似文献

Let G be a locally compact group, and let L1 (G) be the Banachalgebra which is the group algebra of G. We consider a varietyof Banach left L1 (G)-modules over L1 (G), and seek to determineconditions on G that determine when these modules are eitherprojective or injective or flat in the category. The answerstypically involve G being compact or discrete or amenable. Forexample, in the case where G is discrete and 1 < p < ,we find that the module p (G) is injective whenever G is amenable, and that, if it is amenable, then G is ‘pseudo-amenable’,a property very close to that of amenability. 2000 MathematicsSubject Classification 46H25, 43A20.  相似文献

Let R be a commutative Noetherian ring. Let P(R) (respectively,I(R)) be the category of all finite R-modules of finite projective(respectively, injective) dimension. Sharp [9] constructed acategory equivalence between I(R) and P(R) for certain Cohen–Macaulaylocal rings R. Thus many properties about finite modules offinite projective dimension can be connected with those of finiteinjective dimension through this equivalence.  相似文献

For a topological group G we define N to be the set of all normalsubgroups modulo which G is a finite-dimensional Lie group.Call G a pro-Lie group if, firstly, G is complete, secondly,N is a filter basis, and thirdly, every identity neighborhoodof G contains some member of N. It is easy to see that everypro-Lie group G is a projective limit of the projective systemof all quotients of G modulo subgroups from N. The converseimplication emerges as a difficult proposition, but it is shownhere that any projective limit of finite-dimensional Lie groupsis a pro-Lie group. It is also shown that a closed subgroupof a pro-Lie group is a pro-Lie group, and that for any closednormal subgroup N of a pro-Lie group G, for any one parametersubgroup Y : R G/N there is a one parameter subgroup X : R G such that X(t) N = Y(t) for any real number t. The categoryof all pro-Lie groups and continuous group homomorphisms betweenthem is closed under the formation of all limits in the categoryof topological groups and the Lie algebra functor on the categoryof pro-Lie groups preserves all limits and quotients. 2000 MathematicsSubject Classification 22E65, 22D05, 22E20, 22A05, 54B35.  相似文献

If G is a totally disconnected group and H is a closed subgroup then, according to the Gelfand-Kazhdan Lemma, if the double coset space H?G/H is preserved by an antiautomorphism of G of order two then (G,H) must be a Gelfand pair in the sense that HomH(π,1) has dimension at most one for each irreducible, admissible representation π of G. Under certain rather general restrictions, we show that if the symmetry property holds only for almost all double cosets, then (G,H) is a supercuspidal Gelfand pair in the sense that for all irreducible, supercuspidal representations π of G. There exist examples of supercuspidal Gelfand pairs which are not Gelfand pairs.  相似文献

Let G be a simple simply connected complex Lie group. Some criteriaare given for the nonexistence of exceptional principal G-bundlesover a complex projective surface. As an application, it isshown that there are no exceptional G-bundles over a surfacewhose arithmetic genus is zero or one. It is also shown thatthere are no stable exceptional G-bundles over an abelian surface.2000 Mathematics Subject Classification 32L20, 14J60.  相似文献

The structure of a collineation group G preserving a unitalin a projective plane of order m2 with m 1(4) is investigatedand several results are obtained about G, when G is a 2-group.These results are then used to investigate the structure ofG/O(G) in the general case and, in particular, that of F*(G/O(G)).  相似文献

Invariants of Finite Group Schemes   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Let G be a finite group scheme operating on an algebraic varietyX, both defined over an algebraically closed field k. The paperfirst investigates the properties of the quotient morphism X- X/G over the open subset of X consisting of points whose stabilizershave maximal index in G. Given a G-linearized coherent sheafon X, it describes similarly an open subset of X over whichthe invariants in the sheaf behave nicely in some way. The pointsin X with linearly reductive stabilizers are characterized inrepresentation theoretic terms. It is shown that the set ofsuch points is nonempty if and only if the field of rationalfunctions k(X) is an injective G-module. Applications of theseresults to the invariants of a restricted Lie algebra g operatingon the function ring k[X] by derivations are considered in thefinal section. Furthermore, conditions are found ensuring thatthe ring k[X]g is generated over the subring of pth powers ink[X], where p=char,k>0, by a given system of invariant functionsand is a locally complete intersection.  相似文献

Suppose that H is a finite subgroup of a linear algebraic group,G. It was proved by Donkin that there exists a finite-dimensionalrational representation of G whose restriction to H is free. This paper gives a short proof of this in characteristic 0.The author also studies more closely which representations ofH can appear as a restriction of G.  相似文献

In this article, we investigate the change of rings theorems for the Gorenstein dimensions over arbitrary rings. Namely, by the use of the notion of strongly Gorenstein modules, we extend the well-known first, second, and third change of rings theorems for the classical projective and injective dimensions to the Gorenstein projective and injective dimensions, respectively. Each of the results established in this article for the Gorenstein projective dimension is a generalization of a G-dimension of a finitely generated module M over a noetherian ring R.  相似文献

A profinite group G of finite cohomological dimension with (topologically)finitely generated closed normal subgroup N is studied. If Gis pro-p and N is either free as a pro-p group or a Poincarégroup of dimension 2 or analytic pro-p, it is shown that G/Nhas virtually finite cohomological dimension cd(G)–cd(N).Some other cases when G/N has virtually finite cohomologicaldimension are also considered. If G is profinite, the case of N projective or the profinitecompletion of the fundamental group of a compact surface isconsidered.  相似文献

This paper is a comprehensive study of the nest representationsfor the free semigroupoid algebra LG of a countable directedgraph G as well as its norm-closed counterpart, the tensor algebraT+(G). We prove that the finite-dimensional nest representations separatethe points in LG, and a fortiori, in T+(G). The irreduciblefinite-dimensional representations separate the points in LGif and only if G is transitive in components (which is equivalentto being semisimple). Also the upper triangular nest representationsseparate points if and only if for every vertex x T(G) supportinga cycle, x also supports at least one loop edge. We also study faithful nest representations. We prove that LG(or T+(G) admits a faithful irreducible representation if andonly if G is strongly transitive as a directed graph. More generally,we obtain a condition on G which is equivalent to the existenceof a faithful nest representation. We also give a conditionthat determines the existence of a faithful nest representationfor a maximal type N nest. 2000 Mathematics Subject Classification47L80, 47L55, 47L40.  相似文献

We show that an iteration of the procedure used to define theGorenstein projective modules over a commutative ring R yieldsexactly the Gorenstein projective modules. Specifically, givenan exact sequence of Gorenstein projective R-modules

such that the complexes HomR(G, H) and HomR(H,G) are exact for each Gorenstein projective R-module H, themodule Coker() is Gorensteinprojective. The proof of this result hinges upon our analysisof Gorenstein subcategories of abelian categories.  相似文献

A central pair over a field k of characteristic 0 consists of a finite Abelian group which is equipped with a central 2-cocycle with values in the multiplicative group k * of k. In this paper we use specific central pairs to construct a class of projective representations of the absolute Galois group G k of k and if k is a number field we investigate the liftings of these projective representations to linear representations of G k . In particular we relate these linear representations to automorphic representations. It turns out that some of these automorphic representations correspond to certain indefinite modular forms already constructed by E. Hecke.  相似文献

Let G be a connected reductive algebraic group with a Frobeniusmorphism F: G G defined over a finite field pr. The main resultof the paper is to prove that any rational G-module M whichis projective when restricted to the Frobenius kernel Gr = Ker(F)is also projective over the split and twisted finite Chevalleygroups. In 1987, Parshall conjectured this statement for r =1 in the split case. The authors verified this in 1999 withthe possible exclusion of primes 2 and 3 in non-simply lacedcases. The converse of the main result is also discussed forsplit groups in this paper.  相似文献

Periodicity in Group Cohomology and Complete Resolutions   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
A group G is said to have periodic cohomology with period qafter k steps, if the functors Hi(G, –) and Hi+q(G, –)are naturally equivalent for all i > k. Mislin and the authorhave conjectured that periodicity in cohomology after some stepsis the algebraic characterization of those groups G that admita finite-dimensional, free G-CW-complex, homotopy equivalentto a sphere. This conjecture was proved by Adem and Smith underthe extra hypothesis that the periodicity isomorphisms are givenby the cup product with an element in Hq(G,Z). It is expectedthat the periodicity isomorphisms will always be given by thecup product with an element in Hq(G,Z); this paper shows thatthis is the case if and only if the group G admits a completeresolution and its complete cohomology is calculated via completeresolutions. It is also shown that having the periodicity isomorphismsgiven by the cup product with an element in Hq(G,Z) is equivalentto silp G being finite, where silp G is the supremum of theinjective lengths of the projective ZG-modules. 2000 MathematicsSubject Classification 20J05, 57S25.  相似文献
