The epithermal neutron shape factor, α of the inner and outer irradiation sites of the Ghana Research Reactor-1 (GHARR-1) was determined obtaining results of 0.105 for the inner (Channel 1) Irradiation site and 0.020 for the outer (channel 6) irradiation site. The neutron temperatures for the inner and outer irradiation sites were 27 °C and 20 °C, respectively. The α values used in Westcott Formalism k0 INAA was applied to determine multi elements in 13 Ghanaian herbal medicines used by the Centre for Scientific Research into Plant Medicine (CSRPM) for the management of various diseases complemented by Atomic Absorption Spectrometry. They are namely Mist. Antiaris, Mist. Enterica, Mist. Morazia, Mist. Nibima, Mist. Modium, Mist. Ninger, Mist Sodenia, Mist. Tonica, Chardicca Powder, Fefe Powder, Olax Powder, Sirrapac powder and Lippia Tea. Concentrations of Al, As, Br, K, Cl, Cu, Mg, Mn, Na and V were determined by short and medium irradiations at a thermal neutron flux of 5×1011 ncm−2 s−1. Fe, Cr, Pb, Co, Ni, Sn, Ca, Ba, Li and Sb were determined using Atomic Absorption Spectrometry (AAS). Ba, Cu, Li and V were present at trace levels whereas Al, Cl, Na, Ca were present at major levels. K, Br, Mg, Mn, Co, Ni, Fe and Sb were also present at minor levels. Arsenic was not detected in all samples. Standard Reference material, IAEA-V-10 Hay Powder was simultaneously analysed with samples. The precision and accuracy of the method using real samples and standard reference materials were evaluated and within ±10% of the reported value. Multivariate analytical techniques, such as cluster analysis (Q-mode and R-mode CA) and principal component analysis (PCA)/factor analysis (FA), have been applied to evaluate the chemical variations in the herbal medicine dataset. All the 13 samples may be grouped into 2 statistically significant clusters (liquid based and powdered herbal medicines), reflecting the different chemical compositions. R-mode CA and PCA suggest common sources for Co, Mg, Fe, Ca, Cr, Ni, Sn, Li and Sb and Na, V, Cl, Mn, Al, Br and K. The PCA/FA identified 3 dominant factors as responsible for the data structure, explaining 84.5% of the total variance in the dataset.  相似文献

The procedures followed for the determination of standardization factors and their use in the single-comparator method for multi-element reactor neutron activation analysis are described. The method is applied to the determination of Cr, Mn, Fe, Ni and Mo in pure zirconium metal. The matrix could serve as the single comparator and as a bi-isotopic thermal-to-epithermal neutron flux ratio monitor.  相似文献

Nickel contents in different finished product alloys were determined using a k 0-based internal monostandard instrumental neutron activation analysis (IM-INAA) method. Five stainless steels (SS) and three high nickel alloys were analyzed by IM-INAA. BCS CRMs 225/1 (low alloy steel) and 466 (austenitic SS) and NIST SRM 247 (high Ni alloy) were analyzed to evaluate the accuracy of the method. The results of CRMs and SS were found to be in good agreement with certified or specified values. The Ni contents in the high nickel alloys were also determined by relative method of NAA for verification. Nickel contents in BCS CRM 466 and SS 316M were determined by UV–Visible spectrophotometry and the values were found to be in good agreement with IM-INAA results.  相似文献

An internal comparator method is proposed which offers reliable instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA) results for samples with an irregular geometry and/or measured at the closest position to the Ge detector. Because the selected internal comparator in the sample analyzed will receive exactly the same thermal neutron flux as the other components, this method can be applied to the INAA of materials suffering from thermal neutron self-shielding. To apply the internal comparator method, the k0-method must be installed and the analytes, including the internal comparator, should be homogeneously distributed in the test portion.  相似文献

Radiochemical neutron activation analysis coupled with the k0-standardization method (k0-RNAA method) was applied to silicate rock samples for the simultaneous determination of trace halogens (Cl, Br and I). Analytical results obtained by the k0-RNAA method for geological standard rocks and meteorite samples agreed with those determined by the conventional comparison method conducted in the same set of experiments, suggesting that the k0-RNAA method is as reliable as the conventional method. Our data for these samples are in good agreement with their literature values except for rare cases. Detection limits calculated under the present experimental condition are sufficiently low for Cl and Br but not for I for typical geologic and meteoritic samples. The k0-RNAA method coupled with longer neutron-irradiation is expected to yield satisfactorily low detection limits for halogens including I in these samples.  相似文献

Nuclear and commercial grade graphite samples were analysed by instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA) using high flux reactor neutrons. Eleven elements (Na, K, As, Sc, Fe, Cr, Co, Zn, La, Ce, and Sm) were determined in eight samples of graphite (two nuclear grade and six commercial grade) by irradiating at a neutron flux of 3?×?1013 cm?2 s?1 in CIRUS reactor and assaying the activity by high-resolution gamma ray spectrometry using 40% relative efficiency HPGe detector coupled to an MCA. Concentrations of elements were determined by relative method of INAA. Results of both types of graphites as well as detection limits achieved by INAA method are discussed in the paper.  相似文献

The content of trace elements in arsenic and antimony minerals from the Allchar mine, Macedonia, was determined by electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry (ETAAS) and k0-instrumental neutron activation analysis (k0-INAA) after removal of arsenic and antimony. Their direct determination by ETAAS or k0-INAA in arsenic (realgar and orpiment) and antimony (stibnite) minerals is limited by strong matrix interferences from As and Sb. Successful elimination of both elements was realized by the extraction of their iodide complexes into toluene. It was found that the optimal conditions were triple extraction of arsenic into toluene from 6mol·L–1 HCl with addition of KI. Triple extraction of antimony was most successful in the system 4.5mol·L–1 H2SO4 and KI into toluene. In both cases, trace elements (Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni, Pb and Zn) were then detected in the aqueous phase by ETAAS. The proposed procedures with ETAAS were checked by the method of standard additions and Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni, Pb and Zn determined in realgar, orpiment and stibnite. Using k0-INAA the trace elements Ba, Ce, Co, Cr, Cs, Fe, Hg, Sc, Tb, Th, U and Zn in realgar and orpiment were determined before and after As and Sb removal from the same aliquot of sample. The removal of both elements with KI into toluene was higher than 99.8% and no losses of trace elements were observed.  相似文献

Certified alloys of Ni–Cu based, Fe based and Cu–Sn based were analysed by semi-absolute, standardless k 0-instrumental neutron activation analysis (k 0-INAA) and flame atomic absorption spectrophotometry (FAAS) aiming at evaluating their comparative performances. In k 0-INAA measurements, the irradiations were performed at miniaturized neutron source reactor having thermal neutron flux of about 1 × 1012 cm?2 s?1. The experimentally optimized parameters for INAA suggested a maximum of three irradiations for the quantification of 21 elements within 5 days. The same experiments also produced quantitative results of 13 elements not reported in the certificates of the reference materials. AAS was, however, unable to determine any of those elements. Accuracy of the two techniques was assessed by comparing their average root mean squared errors. The data analysis concluded that k 0-INAA had better sensitivity and accuracy than FAAS.  相似文献

The title compound has been first synthesized by a citrate technique followed by thermal treatments under moderate oxygen pressure conditions, and characterized by X-ray and neutron powder diffraction (NPD) and magnetization measurements. The crystal structure of DyCrMnO5 has been refined from NPD data in the space group Pbam; a=7.2617(6) Å, b=8.5161(6) Å, and c=5.7126(5) Å at 295 K. This oxide is isostructural with RMn2O5 oxides (R=rare earths) and it contains infinite chains of (Cr, Mn)4+O6 octahedra-sharing edges, linked together by (Mn, Cr)3+O5 pyramids and DyO8 units. The high degree of antisite disordering exhibited by DyCrMnO5 is noteworthy. The octahedral positions are occupied by roughly 50% of Mn and Cr cations, and the pyramidal groups contain two thirds of Mn and one third of Cr cations. We assume that Mn and Cr cations at the octahedral positions exhibit a tetravalent oxidation state, whereas the metals at the pyramidal positions are trivalent, in order to preserve the electroneutrality of this oxide. The susceptibility vs temperature curve of DyCrMnO5 does not suggest the establishment of a long-range magnetic structure even at low temperatures; the NPD technique does not provide any signal of magnetic ordering, since the reflections do not show any magnetic contribution.  相似文献

In this study, five of popularly used medicinal plants as Cichorium intybus, Anethum graveolens seed, Thymus vulgaris, Fumaria officinalis and Hibiscus sabdariffa Syn: Hibiscus gossypifolius were prepared from Herbal Pharmacies in Tehran. The amounts of Al, Br, Ca, Cl, Cr, Fe, K, Mg, Mn, Na, V and Zn in samples were determined using instrumental neutron activation analysis. In this method, Tehran research reactor as a neutron source and relative INAA have been used as the analysis procedure. Highest levels of Cr (5 mg/kg), Ca (28316 mg/kg) and Mg (4134 mg/kg) were detected in Thymus vulgaris and F1umaria officinalis, respectively.  相似文献

The synthesis, structure, and physical properties of five R-type Ru ferrites with chemical formula BaMRu5O11 (M=Li and Cu) and BaM2Ru4O11 (M′=Mn, Fe and Co) are reported. All the ferrites crystallize in space group P63/mmc and consist of layers of edge sharing octahedra interconnected by pairs of face sharing octahedra and isolated trigonal bipyramids. For M=Li and Cu, the ferrites are paramagnetic metals with the M atoms found on the trigonal bipyramid sites exclusively. For M′=Mn, Fe and Co, the ferrites are soft ferromagnetic metals. For M′=Mn, the Mn atoms are mixed randomly with Ru atoms on different sites. The magnetic structure for BaMn2Ru4O11 is reported.  相似文献

The k0-based internal monostandard instrumental neutron activation analysis (IM-INAA) method was applied for quantification of trace impurities in seven high purity aluminum samples used as fuel cladding in a research reactor. Samples along with BCS CRM 182 (Si–Al alloy) were irradiated in high flux reactor neutrons for 10–15 h. In situ detection efficiency, needed in concentration calculation ratio by IM-INAA, was obtained using gamma rays of activation products produced in the samples. Elemental concentration ratios obtained with respect to Fe (used as internal monostandard) were converted to absolute concentrations by determining concentration of Fe by relative method of NAA. Concentrations of ten trace elements (Sc, Cr, Co, Zn, Ga, La, Ce, Sm, W and Hf) including major element Fe were determined in this work. The method used is non-destructive in nature and does not need multielement standards. Results of IM-INAA were compared with those obtained by relative method of INAA and inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES). Details of methodologies and results obtained by all methods are discussed and compared in the paper.  相似文献

A new method that utilizes p-dimethylaminobenzaldehyde-modified nanometer SiO2 (SiO2-p-DMABD) as a solid phase extractant has been developed for simultaneous preconcentration of trace Cr(III), Cu(II), Fe(III) and Pb(II) prior to the measurement by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES). The preconcentration conditions of analytes were investigated, including the pH value, the shaking time, the mass of sorbent, the sample flow rate and volume, the elution condition and the interfering ions. The adsorption capacity of nanometer SiO2-p-DMABD was found to be (mg g− 1) Cr(III): 6.2, Cu(II): 18.6, Fe(III): 4.7 and Pb(II): 6.0 at pH 4. The adsorbed metals were quantitatively eluted with 4 mL of 1.0 mol L− 1 HCl. According to the definition of IUPAC, the detection limits (3σ) of this method for Cr(III), Cu(II), Fe(III) and Pb(II) were 0.79, 1.27, 0.40 and 1.79 ng mL− 1, respectively. The proposed method achieved satisfied results when it was applied to the determination of trace Cr(III), Cu(II), Fe(III) and Pb(II) in biological and water samples.  相似文献

We describe an investigation of the structure and dielectric properties of MM′O4 and MTiM′O6 rutile-type oxides for M=Cr, Fe, Ga and M′=Nb, Ta and Sb. All the oxides adopt a disordered rutile structure (P42/mnm) at ambient temperature. A partial ordered trirutile-type structure is confirmed for FeTaO4 from the low temperature (17 K) neutron diffraction studies. While both the MM′O4 oxides (CrTaO4 and FeTaO4) investigated show a normal dielectric property MTiM′O6 oxides for M=Fe, Cr and M′=Nb/Ta/Sb display a distinct relaxor/relaxor-like response. Significantly the corresponding gallium analogs, GaTiNbO6 and GaTiTaO6, do not show a relaxor response at T<500 K.  相似文献

Levels of As, Ba, Br, Ca, Ce, Cl, Cr, Cs, Eu, Fe, Hg, I, K, La, Mg, Mn, Na, Ni, Rb, Sb, Sc, Sm, Sr, Th, Zn, and U have been determined in ten leaves widely used in ayurvedic medicine by instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA). The neutron irradiations were performed with a 100 kW Triga nuclear reactor and the induced activity was counted with a gamma-ray spectrometer. Based on elemental levels obtained the utility of these leaves in medicine are discussed.  相似文献

Sediment samples were collected from seven locations of the MeeHo stream in Cheongju city, strained out by a sieve, dried by an oven and pulverized by an agate mortar. Instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA) was applied for the determination of the elemental contents in the sediment samples by using the NAA #1 and #2 irradiation holes of the HANARO research reactor and HPGe gamma-ray spectrometers. Twenty-five elements were determined by a relative method with NIST SRM 2711-Montan Soil and the ranges of the elemental contents for the seven locations were identified. The contamination levels for elements such as As, Ba, Cr, Mn, Fe and Zn were compared with the guidelines of USEPA. The detection limits and combined uncertainties for the hazardous elements such as As, Ba, Cr, Mn, Sb, V and Zn were estimated under the given analytical conditions.  相似文献

Effect of substitution of Cr and Mn in the Fe and Ga sites of GaFeO3 on the structural parameters and magnetic properties has been investigated by preparing GaFe1−xCrx(Mnx)O3 and Ga1−xCrx(Mnx)FeO3 starting with appropriate oxide precursors. It is shown that, starting with Cr or Mn substituted Ga2O3, one obtains Ga1−xCrx(Mnx)FeO3, while reaction of Cr or Mn substituted α-Fe2O3 with Ga2O3 yields GaFe1−xCrx(Mnx)O3. The structural parameters and magnetic properties vary significantly with the substitution site of Cr showing a large decrease in the unit cell parameters as well as the TC and other magnetic properties when the substitution is at the octahedral Fe (1, 2) site. Substitution of Cr at the octahedral Ga2 site results in marginal changes. Substitution of Mn in the Ga and Fe sites also show differences although the changes themselves are much smaller. First-principles calculations confirm such site-specificity and show how Cr substitution affects the properties differently when substituted at the Ga2 and Fe1 sites.  相似文献

A robust microwave-assisted acid digestion procedure followed by inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) was developed to quantify rare earth elements (REEs) in fluidized-bed catalytic cracking (FCC) catalysts and atmospheric fine particulate matter (PM2.5). High temperature (200 °C), high pressure (200 psig), acid digestion (HNO3, HF and H3BO3) with 20 min dwell time effectively solubilized REEs from six fresh catalysts, a spent catalyst and PM2.5. This method was also employed to measure 27 non-REEs including Na, Mg, Al, Si, K, Sc, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Ga, As, Se, Rb, Sr, Zr, Mo, Cd, Cs, Ba, Pb and U. Complete extraction of several REEs (Y, La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Tb, Dy and Er) required HF indicating that they were closely associated with the aluminosilicate structure of the zeolite FCC catalysts. Internal standardization using 115In quantitatively corrected non-spectral interferences in the catalyst digestate matrix. Inter-laboratory comparison using ICP-optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES) and instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA) demonstrated the applicability of the newly developed analytical method for accurate analysis of REEs in FCC catalysts. The method developed for FCC catalysts was also successfully implemented to measure trace to ultra-trace concentrations of La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Gd, Eu and Dy in ambient PM2.5 in an industrial area of Houston, TX.  相似文献

La2Mo2O9 ceramics have been prepared from freeze-dried precursors and their properties compared to those of lantanum molybdate obtained by conventional solid state (SS) reaction. All materials have been characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and thermal analysis (TGA/DTA/DSC and dilatometry) to characterize the phase formation and phase transition. When the freeze-dried method was applied, the synthesis temperature required to obtain dense samples was much lower than that for powders obtained by SS reaction. The morphology and structure of the oxide particle are significantly dependent on the synthesis method. The grain size is smaller, whereas the density of sintered pellets is higher for the freeze-dried precursor powder when compared with the SS reaction method. Impedance spectroscopy was used to measure the electrical conductivity of La2Mo2O9 from 548 to 1123 K, in air, and to characterize the blocking effects of grain boundaries.  相似文献

The geometrical and electronic structures of impurity (Cr, Mn, Co, Ni)-doped β-FeSi2 were investigated using first principles pseudopotential calculations based on generalized gradient approximation (GGA) density function theory. The calculated structural parameters depend strongly on the kinds of dopants and sites. The total energy calculations for substitution of dopants at the FeI and the FeII sites revealed that Mn prefers the FeI site, whereas Cr, Co, and Ni prefer the FeII site. The electronic structure is analyzed and discussed in terms of the atomic charges, bond overlap population, and total and partial densities of states (DOS).  相似文献
