Ion selective electrodes (ISE) are used extensively for the potentiometric determination of ion concentrations in electrolytes. However, the inherent drift in these measurements and the requirement of a stable reference electrode restrict the feasibility of this method for long-term in-situ applications. This work presents a chronopotentiometric approach to minimize drift and avoid the use of a conventional reference electrode for measuring chloride ion concentration. An anodic current pulse is applied to a Ag/AgCl working electrode which initiates a faradaic reaction that depletes the chloride ions near the electrode surface. The rate of change in potential at the Ag/AgCl electrode, due to chloride ion depletion, reaches an inflection point once the chloride ions deplete completely near the electrode surface. The moment of the inflection point, also known as the transition time, is a function of the chloride ion concentration and is described by the Sand equation. It is shown that the square root of the transition time is linearly proportional to the chloride ion concentration. Drift in the response over two weeks is negligible: 59 μM/day when measuring 1 mM of Cl ions using a 10 A m−2 current pulse. The transition time at a specific ion concentration can be tuned by the applied current pulse, e.g., in a solution containing 5 mM chloride ions, the transition times with current pulses of 10 and 20 A m−2 are 1.56 and 0.25 s, respectively. The moment of inflection determines the response, and thus is independent of the absolute potential of reference electrode. Therefore, any metal wire can act as a pseudo-reference electrode, enabling this approach for long-term and integrated-sensor applications such as measurement inside concrete structures.  相似文献

Existing designs of reference electrodes for potentiometric measurements in fluoride melts do not meet basic requirements of the long exposure corrosion tests to be performed. A new diaphragm-free three-electrode meter with a nonstationary (dynamic) beryllium reference electrode for the redox potential measurements was developed. Optimum conditions of forming dynamic beryllium reference electrode were determined in the laboratory tests in isothermal cell. The device for redox potential measurement was designed and it was shown that it is highly sensitive to changes redox potential within ±5 mV. Reliability and efficiency of diaphragm-free device with dynamic reference electrode was confirmed in the thermal convection corrosion loop operating more than 1200 h with molten 15LiF-58NaF-27BeF2 mixture (mol%) at a maximum temperature of about 700 °C.  相似文献

This work offers construction and comparative evaluation the performance characteristics of conventional polymer (I), carbon paste (II) and carbon nanotubes chemically modified carbon paste ion selective electrodes (III) for meclofenoxate hydrochloride are described. These electrodes depend mainly on the incorporation of the ion pair of meclofenoxate hydrochloride with phosphomolybdic acid (PMA) or phosphotungestic acid (PTA). They showed near Nernestian responses over usable concentration range 1.0 × 10−5 to 1.0 × 10−2 M with slopes in the range 55.15–59.74 mV (concentration decade)−1. These developed electrodes were fully characterized in terms of their composition, response time, working concentration range, life span, usable pH and temperature range. The electrodes showed a very good selectivity for Meclo with respect to a large number of inorganic cations, sugars and in the presence of the degradation product of the drug (p-chloro phenoxy acetic acid). The standard additions method was applied to the determination of MecloCl in pure solution, pharmaceutical preparations and biological samples. Dissolution testing was also applied using the proposed sensors.  相似文献

A new solid-state reference electrode using a polymeric membrane of polyvinyl butyral (PVB), Ag/AgCl and NaCl to be used in decentralized chemical measurements is presented. The electrode is made by drop-casting the membrane cocktail onto a glassy carbon (GC) substrate. A stable potential (less than 1 mV dec−1) over a wide range of concentrations for the several chemical species tested is obtained. No significant influence to changes in redox potential, light and pH are observed. The response of this novel electrode shows good correlation when compared with a conventional double-junction reference electrode. Also good long-term stability (90 ± 33 μV/h) and a lifetime of approximately 4 months are obtained. Aspects related to the working mechanisms are discussed. Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) studies reveal the presence of nanopores and channels on the surface, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) of optimized electrodes show low bulk resistances, usually in the kΩ range, suggesting that a nanoporous polymeric structure is formed in the interface with the solution. Future applications of this electrode as a disposable device for decentralized measurements are discussed. Examples of the utilization on wearable substrates (tattoos, fabrics, etc) are provided.  相似文献

An all-solid photoelectrochemical cell has been tested in the photooxidation of methanol vapours as a proof-of-concept for the application of electrochemically enhanced photocatalysis in air treatment. The cell was based on a Nafion®-impregnated microporous membrane that served as the solid polymer electrolyte. The working and reference electrodes (a TiO2/WO3-coated stainless steel mesh and AgCl-coated Ag wire, respectively) were adhered with the addition of a Nafion® solution onto one face of the membrane, while the counter electrode (a plain stainless steel mesh) was attached to its opposite face. The use of an electrosynthesized TiO2/WO3 photoelectrode allowed the utilization of both UV and visible light. The device was tested by constant potential photoamperometry in air streams saturated with water or water–methanol vapours and the obtained photocurrent increased with increasing methanol levels, confirming the photoelectrochemical oxidation of methanol vapours under UV and visible light illumination.  相似文献

The potentiometric behavior of coated wire electrodes based on dodecylbenzenesulfonate-doped polypyrrole (PPy-DBS) and hyamine as ion exchanger was investigated. The PPy-DBS was prepared electrochemically by anodic polymerization of pyrrole in the presence of DBS ions in aqueous solution and used as ionophore for construction of the sensor. Two types of coated wire electrodes made of PVC-PPy-DBS and PVC-Hyamine-DBS, plasticized with ortho-nitrophenyloctylether (o-NPOE) showed the Nernstian behavior (with respective calibration slopes of about 58 and 60 mV per decade) over the DBS concentration range of 3.0×10−6 to 1.1×10−3 M and 5.0×10−6 to 1.3×10−3 M, respectively. The influence of membrane composition, type of plasticizer, and pH of test solution on the potentiometric responses of the two electrodes was investigated. The potentiometric response was independent of the pH of test solution in the range 3-10. The response time of electrodes was fast (10 s for both types of electrode), and they can be used for at least 3 months without any significant change in potential. The proposed electrodes revealed very good selectivity for DBS ion over diverse inorganic and organic anions. The potentiometric selectivity coefficients for the PPy-DBS based electrode revealed a significant improvement as compared to the electrode made by conventional Hyamine-DBS (Hya-DBS) anion exchanger. The proposed electrode was used for determination of DBS ion in some commercial detergents. The results of the potentiometric determinations were in satisfactory agreement with those obtained by a standard method (two-phase titration).  相似文献

A specific recognition material for bisphenol A (BPA) was prepared by using a covalent imprinting technique. A chloroform solution containing bisphenol A dimethacrylate as a template, ethylene glycol dimethacrylate as a cross-linking agent and 2,2′-azobis(isobutyronitrile) as an initiator was polymerized by UV initiation. When BPA was removed from the resulting polymer by hydrolysis of the ester bonds with aqueous sodium hydroxide, carboxylic acid residues were generated in the polymer. After the polymer was packed into a stainless steel column, retention factors of BPA and related compounds were measured. The imprinted polymer adsorbed BPA and structurally related compounds such as 4,4′-dihydroxybenzophenone, bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)sulfone and 4,4′-dihydroxybiphenyl. A typical association constant (Ka) was calculated to be 1.72×105 M−1 by Scatchard analysis. Interestingly, 17α- and 17β-estradiol were also bound to the imprinted polymer (Ka=1.68×105 M−1), indicating that the polymer could be used as artificial receptors for screening the compounds having estrogenic action.  相似文献

A molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) with metolachlor as template was firstly coated on stainless steel fiber through chemical bonding strategy to solve the fragility problem of silica fiber substrate for solid-phase microextraction. The surface pretreatment of stainless steel fiber and the polymerization conditions were investigated systematically to enhance the preparation feasibility and MIP coating performance, and then a porous and highly cross-linked MIP coating with 14.8-μm thickness was obtained with over 200 times re-usability which was supported by non-fragile stainless steel fiber adoption. The MIP coating possessed specific selectivities to metolachlor, its metabolites and other chloroacetanilide herbicides with the factors of 1.1–4.6. Good extraction capacities of metolachlor, propisochlor and butachlor were found with MIP coating under quick adsorption and desorption kinetics, and the detection limits of 3.0, 9.6 and 38 μg L−1 were achieved, respectively. Moreover, the MIP-coated stainless steel fiber was evaluated for trace metolachlor, propisochlor and butachlor extraction in the spiked soybean and corn samples, and the enrichment factors of 54–60, 27–31 and 15–20 were obtained, respectively.  相似文献

Silver amalgamated electrodes are a good substrate to determine lead (Pb) and cadmium (Cd) in seawater because they have properties similar to mercury but without the free mercury (Hg). Here a silver amalgamated microwire (SAM) electrode is optimised for the determination of Pb and Cd in coastal waters and uncontaminated ocean waters. The SAM was vibrated during the deposition step to increase the sensitivity, and electroanalytical parameters were optimised. The Hg coating required plating from a relatively concentrated (millimolar) solution, much greater (500×) than used for instance to coat glassy carbon electrodes. However, the coating on the ex situ amalgamated electrode was found to be stable and could be used for up to a week to determine trace levels of Pb in seawater of natural pH. The limit of detection square-wave ASV (50 Hz) using the pre-plated SAM electrode was 8 pM Pb using a 1-min plating time at pH 4.5. The limit of detection in pH 2 seawater was 4 pM using a 5-min plating time, and it was 12 pM using a 10-min plating time at natural pH in the presence of air, using a square-wave frequency of 700 Hz. The vibrating SAM electrode was tested on the determination of Pb in reference seawater samples from the open Atlantic (at the 20 pM level), Pacific, and used for a study of Pb in samples collected over 24 h in Liverpool Bay (Irish Sea).  相似文献

A flow cell with a radial distribution of four all-solid-state ion selective electrodes (ISEs), or alternatively three ISEs and one reference electrode, was designed and optimized for mass production. The radial distribution of the electrodes reduces the cell volume and is expected to minimize cross-contamination between different electrodes. Two different cell prototypes were developed and tested for all-solid-state K+-ISEs based on a solvent polymeric ion-selective membrane (ISM) and a conducting polymer, poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene), as solid internal contact. In the first prototype, PEDOT was electropolymerized from an aqueous solution of the monomer and the doping ion salt, sodium polystyrenesulfonate (NaPSS). The second prototype employed an aqueous dispersion of PEDOT(PSS) that is commercially available (Baytron P, Bayer AG). Compared to electrochemical synthesis, solution casting of the polymer dispersion was found to be a more advantageous method to deposit the conducting polymer layer aiming at mass production. The resulting prototypes of the flow cell had a small volume (ca. 17-37 μl), which makes them suitable for application in clinical analysis.  相似文献

Novel polymeric membrane (PME) and coated graphite (CGE) silver-selective electrodes based on two recently synthesized mixed azathioether crowns containing a 1,10-phenanthroline sub-unit were prepared. The electrodes reveal a Nernstian behavior over quite wide Ag+ ion concentration ranges with a very low limits of detection (LOD) (i.e. down to 1.0×10−8 M for CGEs and 8.0×10−7 M for PMEs). The potentiometric responses are independent of the pH of the test solution in the pH range 3.0-7.0. The electrodes possess advantages of low resistance, very fast response time, relatively long lifetimes and, especially, good selectivities relative to a wide variety of other cations. The electrodes were used, as indicator electrodes, in the potentiometric titration of silver ion and in the determination of Ag+ in waste water, photographic emulsion and radiographic and photographic films.  相似文献

A sequential injection analysis system was developed to quantify pH, chloride and nickel in electrolytic baths, in the ranges 1-5 pH units, and 0.1-1.0 and 0.1-1.6 mol l−1, respectively. To enable pH and chloride determination, potentiometric detection with two ion-selective electrodes in a tubular configuration was used. Nickel concentrations were assessed using colorimetric detection at 660 nm. pH was determined prior to nickel determination and just after sample injection (500 μl) into a 0.025 mol l−1 phosphate buffer carrier stream at pH 6.3 and a 9.10 ml min−1 flow rate. For chloride determination, on-line dialysis through a cellulose membrane was used to enable sample dilution and matrix separation. A 25−1 fractional factorial design based on the carrier solution composition and the levels of the hydrodynamic parameters was used for system optimization. At the optimized settings a sampling rate of 40 samples h−1 was attained, with precision and accuracy statistically indistinguishable from those achieved with conventional procedures.  相似文献

A fluorescence immunoassay for human IgG (Ag) was developed using a pH-sensitive polymer prepared by thermal initiation or redox initiation polymerization as a carrier. In the competitive immunoassay, appropriate quantity of Ag was immobilized on the polymer and the standard Ag (or sample) solution, and a constant amount of fluorescein isothiocyanate labeled goat anti-human IgG antibody (Ab-FITC) was added. Immobilized Ag and the standard (or sample) Ag competed for binding to the Ab-FITC in 37 °C in homogeneous format. After changing the pH to separate the polymer-immune complex precipitate, it was re-dissolved and determined by fluorescence method. The results showed that the immobilization efficiency, immunological reaction activities of immobilized Ag and phase transition pH range were improved as Ag was immobilized by thermal initiation instead of redox initiation polymerization. Under optimum conditions, the calibration graphs for the Ag in both methods, thermal initiation and redox initiation, were linear over the concentration range of 0.0-1000 ng mL−1, with detection limits 8 (thermal initiation) and 12 ng mL−1 (redox initiation), respectively. Moreover, some pH-sensitive polymer prepared only in organic solvent or under high temperature could also be used as an immunoreaction carrier by thermal initiation polymerization. Thermal initiation polymerization was a better immobilization mode.  相似文献

A novel high-throughput device based on 96-micro-solid phase extraction (96-μ-SPE) system was constructed for multiresidue determination of nine pesticides in aquatic samples. The extraction procedure was performed on a commercially available 96-well plate system. The extraction module consisted of 96 pieces of 1 cm × 3 cm of cylindrically shaped stainless steel meshes. The prepared meshes were fixed in a home-made polytetrafluoroethylene-based constructed ninety-six holes block for possible simultaneous immersion of meshes into the center of individual wells. Dodecyl methacrylate and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate was copolymerized as a monolithic polymer and placed in the cylindrically shaped stainless steel meshes as extracting medium. A volume of 1 mL of the aquatic sample was transferred into the 96-well plate and the 96-μ-SPE device was applied for the extraction of the selected pesticides. Subsequently, the extracted analytes were analyzed by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry. Influential parameters such as polymer synthesis conditions, sorbent-to-sorbent reproducibility, ionic strength and extraction time were optimized. Intra and inter-sorbent reproducibility on 96-μ-SPE device were evaluated and results revealed that extraction yields are rather similar. Limits of detection were below 4 μg L−1 and the coefficient of determination was satisfactory (r2 > 0.99) for all the studied analytes. The developed method was successfully applied to the extraction and determination of the selected pesticides in surface water samples.  相似文献

New polymeric membrane (PME) and coated graphite (CGE) samarium(III)-selective electrodes were prepared based on isopropyl 2-[(isopropoxycarbothioyl) disulfanyl]ethanethioate as a suitable neutral ionophore. The electrodes exhibit Nernstian slopes for Sm3+ ions over wide concentration ranges (1.0×10−5 to 1.0×10−1 M for PME and 1.0×10−6 to 1.0×10−1 M for CGE). The PME and CGE have limits of detection of 3.1×10−6 and 5.0×10−7 M, respectively, and response times of about 20 s. The potentiometric responses are independent of the pH of the test solution in the pH range 4.0-7.0. The proposed electrodes revealed good selectivities over a wide variety of other cations including alkali, alkaline earth, transition and heavy metal ions. The electrodes were successfully applied to the recovery of Sm3+ ion from tap water samples and also, as an indicator electrode, in potentiometric titration of samarium(III) ions.  相似文献

Simple and sensitive method was developed for the spectrophotometric determination of tungsten. The method was based on the formation of the colour associate of molybdotungsten isopolyanion (IPA) with organic dye malachite green and solubilization in the solution of non-ionic surface-active substance (SAS). Recommended procedure permits tungsten determination in the linear range 10−6 to 10−5 mol l−1 with ε=7.1×104 mol−1 l cm−1. More than 100-fold excess of molybdenum do not interfere. The proposed method was applied to the determination of tungsten in cobalt-molybdenum catalyst and in stainless steel with satisfactory results.  相似文献

Spermine-graft-dextran (Spe-g-Dex) copolymer was synthesized and used as a non-covalent coating for the separation of proteins and neurotransmitters by capillary electrophoresis. The coating was obtained via flushing the capillary with 1.0% Spe-g-Dex copolymer solution for 2 min. Electroosmotic flow (EOF) was strongly suppressed, ranging from −1.60 × 10−9 to 3.65 × 10−9 m2 V−1 s−1. Effect of experimental conditions, such as the copolymer concentration, the concentration and pH of the background electrolyte (BGE), on the Spe-g-Dex coating was investigated. Separation of lysozyme, cytochrome c, ribonuclease A and α-chymotrypsinogen yielded high separation efficiencies ranging from 141 000 to 303 000 plates/m and recoveries from 85.4% to 98.3% at pH 4.0 (284.0 mM sodium acetate–acetic acid buffer, I = 50 mM). Run-to-run repeatabilities and day-to-day, and capillary-to-capillary reproducibilities were all below 1.7%. In addition, Spe-g-Dex coating allowed the successful separation of five neurotransmitters, 5-hydroxytryptamine, dopamine, epinephrine, isoprenaline, dobuamine at pH 4.0 with high separation efficiencies of 290 000–449 000 plates/m.  相似文献

We report for the first time the use of polyhistidine (Polyhis) to efficiently disperse multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). The optimum dispersion MWCNT–Polyhis was obtained by sonicating for 30 min 1.0 mg mL−1 MWCNTs in 0.25 mg mL−1 Polyhis solution prepared in 75:25 (v/v) ethanol/0.200 M acetate buffer solution pH 5.00. The dispersion was characterized by scanning electron microscopy, and by cyclic voltammetry and amperometry using ascorbic acid as redox marker. The modification of glassy carbon electrodes with MWCNT–Polyhis produces a drastic decrease in the overvoltage for the oxidation of ascorbic acid (580 mV) at variance with the response observed at glassy carbon electrodes modified just with Polyhis, where the charge transfer is more difficult due to the blocking effect of the polymer. The reproducibility for the sensitivities obtained after 10 successive calibration plots using the same surface was 6.3%. The MWCNT-modified glassy carbon electrode demonstrated to be highly stable since after 45 days storage at room temperature the response was 94.0% of the original. The glassy carbon electrode modified with MWCNT–Polyhis dispersion was successfully used to quantify dopamine or uric acid at nanomolar levels, even in the presence of large excess of ascorbic acid. Determinations of uric acid in human blood serum samples demonstrated a very good correlation with the value reported by Wienner laboratory.  相似文献

Copolymer, poly(acrylonitrile-co-methyl methacrylate) (P(AN-co-MMA)), was synthesized by solution polymerization with different mole ratios of monomers, acrylonitrile (AN) and methyl methacrylate (MMA). Polyethylene (PE) supported copolymer and gel polymer electrolyte (GPE) were prepared with this copolymer and their performances were characterized with FTIR, TGA, SEM, and electrochemical methods. It is found that the GPE using the PE-supported copolymer with AN to MMA = 4:1 (mole) exhibits an ionic conductivity of 2.06 × 10−3 S cm−1 at room temperature. The copolymer is stable up to 270 °C. The PE-supported copolymer shows a cross-linked porous structure and has 150 wt% of electrolyte uptake. The GPE is compatible with anode and cathode of lithium ion battery at high voltage and its electrochemical window is 5.5 V (vs. Li/Li+). With the application of the PE-supported GPE in lithium ion battery, the battery shows its good rate and initial discharge capacity and cyclic stability.  相似文献

A reference electrode for potentiometric measurements based on conducting polymers (CP) doped with pH buffering ligands is described. Both the CPs and doping ligands are selected and adjusted in such a way that possible ionic and redox sensitivity is hampered, while the pH buffering property of the CP film is exposed. In this way, the electric potential drop at the conducting polymer|solution interface is stabilized and close to constant over a certain pH range. The electrode behaves as a pseudo-reference electrode in amphiprotic solvents or their mixtures, e.g. water-alcohol mixtures. For the first time titration of sulfates with lead(ii) in water-methanol solution using two "plastic" electrodes, CP-based Pb(2+)-sensitive indicator and CP-based reference electrode, is shown. Because the electrode is junction-less it may easily be miniaturized and maintained and thus may serve in frontier applications of sensors.  相似文献
