We derive a homeomorphism invariant for those tiling spaces which are made by rather general substitution rules on polygonal tiles, including those tilings, like the pinwheel, which contain tiles in infinitely many orientations. The invariant is a quotient of ech cohomology, is easily computed directly from the substitution rule, and distinguishes many examples, including most pinwheel-like tiling spaces. We also introduce a module structure on cohomology which is very convenient as well as of intuitive value. 相似文献

In this paper we show that the incompressible Euler equation on the Sobolev space $H^s(mathbb{R}^n), s › n ⁄ 2+1$, can be expressed in Lagrangian coordinates as a geodesic equation on an infinite dimensional manifold. Moreover the Christoffel map describing the geodesic equation is real analytic. The dynamics in Lagrangian coordinates is described on the group of volume preserving diffeomorphisms, which is an analytic submanifold of the whole diffeomorphism group. Furthermore it is shown that a Sobolev class vector field integrates to a curve on the diffeomorphism group. 相似文献

In this paper, we consider the local well-posedness of the 1D Green–Naghdi system. This system describes the evolution of water waves over an uneven bottom in the shallow water regime in terms of the water depth h and the horizontal velocity u. Using a Lagrangian formulation of this system on a Sobolev-type diffeomorphism group, we prove local well-posedness for (h,u)$(h,u)$ in the Sobolev space ([1−ξ]+Hs(R))×Hs+1(R),s>1/2$([1-xi ]+H^s(mathbb {R})) times H^{s+1}(mathbb {R}),; s {>} 1/2$, where ξ:R→R$xi :mathbb {R}rightarrow mathbb {R}$ is the parameterization of the bottom and where we assume that the water surface has an equilibrium at height 1. We consider the set of diffeomorphisms of the 2-torus , provided the conditions that the tangent bundle splits into the directed sum of -invariant subbundles , and there is such that and . Then we prove that the set is the union of Anosov diffeomorphisms and diffeomorphisms approximated by Anosov, and moreover every diffeomorphism approximated by Anosov in the set has no SBR measures. This is related to a result of Hu-Young.

We study the problem of tiling a polyomino P with as few squares as possible such that every square in the tiling has a non‐empty intersection with the boundary of P . Our main result is an algorithm which given a simply connected polyomino P computes such a tiling of P . We indicate how one can improve the running time of this algorithm for the more restricted row‐column‐convex polyominoes. This paper presents some results concerning the search for initial values to the so-called problem which give rise either to function iterates that attain a maximum value higher than all function iterates for all smaller initial values, or which have a stopping time higher than those of all smaller initial values. Our computational results suggest that for an initial value of , the maximum value of the function iterates is bounded from above by , with either a constant or a very slowly increasing function of . As a by-product of this (exhaustive) search, which was performed up to , the conjecture was verified up to that same number.

We give a classification of a specific family of seven-dimensional manifolds, the generalized Witten manifolds up to homeomorphism
and diffeomorphism. Using an approach suggested by J. Shaneson, we develop a modified surgery theory which fully classifies
these manifolds. In contrast to previous approaches, this surgery theory is designed to be more readily applicable to higher
dimensions. The family contains examples of manifolds which admit Einstein metrics and are homeomorphic but not diffeomorphic.
These particular manifolds occur naturally in differential geometry and are of great interest to both differential geometers

Let be a knot in a closed orientable irreducible 3-manifold . Suppose admits a genus 1 Heegaard splitting and we denote by the splitting torus. We say is a -genus -bridge splitting of if intersects transversely in two points, and divides into two pairs of a solid torus and a boundary parallel arc in it. It is known that a -genus -bridge splitting of a satellite knot admits a satellite diagram disjoint from an essential loop on the splitting torus. If and the slope of the loop is longitudinal in one of the solid tori, then is obtained by twisting a component of a -bridge link along the other component. We give a criterion for determining whether a given -genus -bridge splitting of a knot admits a satellite diagram of a given slope or not. As an application, we show there exist counter examples for a conjecture of Ait Nouh and Yasuhara.
