In this paper we deal with solutions of problems of the type $$\left\{\begin{array}{ll}-{\rm div} \Big(\frac{a(x)Du}{(1+|u|)^2} \Big)+u = \frac{b(x)|Du|^2}{(1+|u|)^3} +f \quad &{\rm in} \, \Omega,\\ u=0 &{\rm on} \partial \, \Omega, \end{array} \right.$$ where ${0 < \alpha \leq a(x) \leq \beta, |b(x)| \leq \gamma, \gamma > 0, f \in L^2 (\Omega)}$ and Ω is a bounded subset of ${\mathbb{R}^N}$ with N ≥ 3. We prove the existence of at least one solution for such a problem in the space ${W_{0}^{1, 1}(\Omega) \cap L^{2}(\Omega)}$ if the size of the lower order term satisfies a smallness condition when compared with the principal part of the operator. This kind of problems naturally appears when one looks for positive minima of a functional whose model is: $$J (v) = \frac{\alpha}{2} \int_{\Omega}\frac{|D v|^2}{(1 + |v|)^{2}} + \frac{12}{\int_{\Omega}|v|^2} - \int_{\Omega}f\,v , \quad f \in L^2(\Omega),$$ where in this case a(x) ≡ b(x) = α > 0.  相似文献

In this paper, we study geometry of conformal minimal two-spheres immersed in quaternionic projective spaces. We firstly use Bahy-El-Dien and Wood’s results to obtain some characterizations of the harmonic sequences generated by conformal minimal immersions from \(S^2\) to the quaternionic projective space \({ HP}^2\) . Then we give a classification theorem of linearly full totally unramified conformal minimal immersions of constant curvature from \(S^2\) to the quaternionic projective space \({ HP}^2\) .  相似文献

Let \(\Omega \subset {\mathbb {R}}^{n}\) be a domain, \(n \ge 2\) . We show that a continuous, open and discrete mapping \(f \in W_{\mathrm{loc }}^{1,n-1}(\Omega , {\mathbb {R}}^{n})\) with integrable inner distortion is differentiable almost everywhere on \(\Omega \) . As a corollary we get that the branch set of such a mapping has measure zero.  相似文献

We prove that for any open Riemann surface ${\mathcal{N}}$ , natural number N ≥ 3, non-constant harmonic map ${h:\mathcal{N} \to \mathbb{R}}$ N?2 and holomorphic 2-form ${\mathfrak{H}}$ on ${\mathcal{N}}$ , there exists a weakly complete harmonic map ${X=(X_j)_{j=1,\ldots,{\sc N}}:\mathcal{N} \to \mathbb{R}^{\sc N}}$ with Hopf differential ${\mathfrak{H}}$ and ${(X_j)_{j=3,\ldots,{\sc N}}=h.}$ In particular, there exists a complete conformal minimal immersion ${Y=(Y_j)_{j=1,\ldots,{\sc N}}:\mathcal{N} \to \mathbb{R}^{\sc N}}$ such that ${(Y_j)_{j=3,\ldots,{\sc N}}=h}$ . As some consequences of these results (1) there exist complete full non-decomposable minimal surfaces with arbitrary conformal structure and whose generalized Gauss map is non-degenerate and fails to intersect N hyperplanes of ${\mathbb{CP}^{{\sc N}-1}}$ in general position. (2) There exist complete non-proper embedded minimal surfaces in ${\mathbb{R}^{\sc N},}$ ${\forall\,{\sc N} >3 .}$   相似文献

We investigate real local isometric immersions of Kähler manifolds ${\mathbb{C}Q^2_c}$ of constant holomorphic curvature 4c into complex projective 3-space. Our main result is that the standard embedding of ${\mathbb{C}P^2}$ into ${\mathbb{C}P^3}$ has strong rigidity under the class of local isometric transformations. We also prove that there are no local isometric immersions of ${\mathbb{C}Q^2_c}$ into ${\mathbb{C}P^3}$ when they have different holomorphic curvature. An important method used is a study of the relationship between the complex structure of any locally isometric immersed ${\mathbb{C}Q^2_c}$ and the complex structure of the ambient space ${\mathbb{C}P^3}$ .  相似文献

We study a nonlinear equation with an elliptic operator having degenerate coercivity. We prove the existence of a unique ${{W^{1,1}_{0}(\Omega)}}$ distributional solution under suitable summability assumptions on the source in Lebesgue spaces. Moreover, we prove that our problem has no solution if the source is a Radon measure concentrated on a set of zero harmonic capacity.  相似文献

A class of stored energy densities that includes functions of the form with , g and h convex and smooth, and is considered. The main result shows that for each such W in this class there is a such that, if a 3 by 3 matrix satisfies , then W is -quasiconvex at on the restricted set of deformations that satisfy condition (INV) and a.e. (and hence that are one-to-one a.e.). Condition (INV) is (essentially) the requirement that be monotone in the sense of Lebesgue and that holes created in one part of the material not be filled by material from other parts. The key ingredient in the proof is an isoperimetric estimate that bounds the integral of the difference of the Jacobians of and by the -norm of the difference of their gradients. These results have application to the determination of lower bounds on critical cavitation loads in elastic solids. Received January 5, 1998 / Accepted March 13, 1998  相似文献

Summary Let r2 be an integer and let : {0, 1} r {0,1} be a function. Let T be the transformation on ={0, 1}zgiven by (T)(i)=((ri), (ri +1), ..., (ri+r–1)) for all iZ. For P in the class of strongly-mixing shiftinvariant measures on , we investigate when P is invariant with respect to T and when T nP converges. For example if r is odd and ( 0,..., r–1)=1 iff >1/2r, the invariant measures are the Bernoulli measures with means 0, 1/2 or 1 and T nP must converge to one of these three measures. Other choices of can give more complicated behaviour.Research supported in part by the National and Engineering Research Council of Canada.  相似文献

Given a simplicial complex K, we consider several notions of geometric complexity of embeddings of K in a Euclidean space \({\mathbb{R}^d}\) : thickness, distortion, and refinement complexity (the minimal number of simplices needed for a PL embedding). We show that any n-complex with N simplices which topologically embeds in \({\mathbb{R}^{2n}, n > 2}\) , can be PL embedded in \({\mathbb{R}^{2n}}\) with refinement complexity \({O(e^{N^{4+{\epsilon}}})}\) . Families of simplicial n-complexes K are constructed such that any embedding of K into \({\mathbb{R}^{2n}}\) has an exponential lower bound on thickness and refinement complexity as a function of the number of simplices of K. This contrasts embeddings in the stable range, \({K\subset \mathbb{R}^{2n+k}, k > 0}\) , where all known bounds on geometric complexity functions are polynomial. In addition, we give a geometric argument for a bound on distortion of expander graphs in Euclidean spaces. Several related open problems are discussed, including questions about the growth rate of complexity functions of embeddings, and about the crossing number and the ropelength of classical links.  相似文献

We provide two sharp sufficient conditions for immersed Willmore surfaces in $\mathbb{R }^3$ to be already minimal surfaces, i.e. to have vanishing mean curvature on their entire domains. These results turn out to be particularly suitable for applications to Willmore graphs. We can therefore show that Willmore graphs on bounded $C^4$ -domains $\overline{\varOmega }$ with vanishing mean curvature on the boundary $\partial \varOmega $ must already be minimal graphs, which in particular yields some Bernstein-type result for Willmore graphs on $\mathbb{R }^2$ . Our methods also prove the non-existence of Willmore graphs on bounded $C^4$ -domains $\overline{\varOmega }$ with mean curvature $H$ satisfying $H \ge c_0>0 \,{\text{ on }}\, \partial \varOmega $ if $\varOmega $ contains some closed disc of radius $\frac{1}{c_0} \in (0,\infty )$ , and they yield that any closed Willmore surface in $\mathbb{R }^3$ which can be represented as a smooth graph over $\mathbb{S }^2$ has to be a round sphere. Finally, we demonstrate that our results are sharp by means of an examination of some certain part of the Clifford torus in $\mathbb{R }^3$ .  相似文献

We give three formulas expressing the Smale invariant of an immersion f of a (4k−1)-sphere into (4k+1)-space. The terms of the formulas are geometric characteristics of any generic smooth map g of any oriented 4k-dimensional manifold, where g restricted to the boundary is an immersion regularly homotopic to f in (6k−1)-space.The formulas imply that if f and g are two non-regularly homotopic immersions of a (4k−1)-sphere into (4k+1)-space then they are also non-regularly homotopic as immersions into (6k−1)-space. Moreover, any generic homotopy in (6k−1)-space connecting f to g must have at least ak(2k−1)! cusps, where ak=2 if k is odd and ak=1 if k is even.  相似文献
