A generalized integral representation formula for spacelike maximal surfaces in a certain 3-dimensional homogeneous spacetime is obtained. This spacetime has a solvable Lie group structure with left invariant metric. The normal Gauß map of maximal surfaces in the homogeneous spacetime is discussed and the harmonicity of the normal Gauß map is studied.  相似文献

In this paper we study surfaces in Euclidean 3-space foliated by pieces of circles that satisfy a Weingarten condition of type aH + bK = c, where a,b and c are constant, and H and K denote the mean curvature and the Gauss curvature respectively. We prove that such a surface must be a surface of revolution, one of the Riemann minimal examples, or a generalized cone. The Lorentzian space form with the positive curvature is called de Sitter space which is an important subject in the theory of relativity. In this paper we consider spacelike curves in de Sitter 3-space. We define the notion of lightlike surfaces of spacelike curves in de Sitter 3-space. We investigate the geometric meanings of the singularities of such surfaces. We study the conformal geometry of an oriented space-like surface in three-dimensional Lorentzian space forms. After introducing the conformal compactification of the Lorentzian space forms, we define the conformal Gauss map which is a conformally invariant two parameter family of oriented spheres. We use the area of the conformal Gauss map to define the Willmore functional and derive a Bernstein type theorem for parabolic Willmore surfaces. Finally, we study the stability of maximal surfaces for the Willmore functional.Dedicated to Professor T.J. In this paper, the position vectors of a spacelike general helix with respect to the standard frame in Minkowski space are studied in terms of the Frenet equations. First, a vector differential equation of third order is constructed to determine the position vectors of an arbitrary spacelike general helix. In terms of solution, we determine the parametric representation of the general helices from the intrinsic equations. Moreover, we give some examples to illustrate how to find the position vectors of spacelike general helices with a spacelike and timelike principal normal vector.  相似文献

For spacelike stationary (i.e. zero mean curvature) surfaces in 4-dimensional Lorentz space, one can naturally introduce two Gauss maps and a Weierstrass-type representation. In this paper we investigate the global geometry of such surfaces systematically. The total Gaussian curvature is related with the surface topology as well as the indices of the so-called good singular ends by a Gauss–Bonnet type formula. On the other hand, as shown by a family of counterexamples to Osserman?s theorem, finite total curvature no longer implies that Gauss maps extend to the ends. Interesting examples include the deformations of the classical catenoid, the helicoid, the Enneper surface, and Jorge–Meeks? k-noids. Each family of these generalizations includes embedded examples in the 4-dimensional Lorentz space, showing a sharp contrast with the 3-dimensional case.  相似文献

We investigate closed surfaces in Euclidean 3-space satisfying certain functional relations κ = F(λ) between the principal curvatures κ, λ. In particular we find analytic closed surfaces of genus zero where F is a quadratic polynomial or F(λ) = cλ2n+1. This generalizes results by H. Hopf on the case where F is linear and the case of ellipsoids of revolution where F(λ) = cλ3.  相似文献

This article deals with the structure of the fundamental group of compact anti de Sitter spacetimes, i.e. Lorentz manifolds with constant negative curvature. Algebraically such a manifold is the quotient of the universal cover of the homogeneous space by a discrete group acting properly and co-compactly on it. This exists if and only if is even. Indeed, as this was observed by Kulkarni, is contained in , and acts properly transitively on . It then suffices to take as a co-compact lattice in . The results of the present article give evidence to the question: in dimension , are all compact anti de Sitter spacetimes constructed in this way? We classify spacelike hypersurfaces of the de Sitter space with constant scalar curvature and with two principal curvatures. Moreover, we prove that if Mn is a complete spacelike hypersurface with constant scalar curvature n(n−1)R and with two distinct principal curvatures such that the multiplicity of one of the principal curvatures is n−1, then R<(n−2)c/n. Additionally, we prove several rigidity theorems for such hypersurfaces.  相似文献

We characterize all ruled surfaces in Minkowski 3-space with a relation between the Gauss and mean curvature (Weingarten surfaces). It turns out that, except if the rulings are in a null direction, these are given by Lorentzian screw motions of straight lines. In this paper, we study ruled Weingarten surfaces M : x (s, t) = α(s) + tβ (s) in Minkowski 3-space on which there is a nontrivial functional relation between a pair of elements of the set {K, KII, H, HII}, where K is the Gaussian curvature, KII is the second Gaussian curvature, H is the mean curvature, and HII is the second mean curvature. In this paper, Cyclic surfaces are introduced using the foliation of circles of curvature of a space curve. The conditions on a space curve such that these cyclic surfaces are of type Weingarten surfaces or HK-quadric surfaces are obtained. Finally, some examples are given and plotted.  相似文献
