Explicit formula is given for the lifetime distribution of a consecutive-k-out-of-n:F system. It is given as a linear combination of distributions of order statistics of the lifetimes of n components. We assume that the lifetimes are independent and identically distributed. The results should make it possible to treat the parametric estimation problems based on the observations of the lifetimes of the system. In fact, we take up, as some examples, the cases where the lifetimes of the components follow the exponential, the Weibull, and the Pareto distributions, and obtain feasible estimators by moment method. In particular, it is shown that the moment estimator is quite good for the exponential case in the sense that the asymptotic efficiency is close to one. This research was partially supported by the ISM Cooperative Research Program (94-ISM-CRP-5).  相似文献

k-out-of-n systems frequently appear in applications. They consist of n components of the same kind with independent and identically distributed life-lengths. The life-length of such a system is described by the (n–k+1)-th order statistic in a sample of size n when assuming that remaining components are not affected by failures. Sequential order statistics are introduced as a more flexible model to describe sequential k-out-of-n systems in which the failure of any component possibly influences the other components such that their underlying failure rate is parametrically adjusted with respect to the number of preceding failures. Useful properties of the maximum likelihood estimators of the model parameters are shown, and several tests are proposed to decide whether the new model is the more appropriate one in a given situation. Moreover, for specific distributions, e.g. Weibull distributions, simultaneous maximum likelihood estimation of the model parameters and distribution parameters is considered.  相似文献

The k-out-of-n model is commonly used in reliability theory. In this model the failure of any component of the system does not influence the components still at work. Sequential k-out-of-n systems have been introduced as an extension of k-out-of-n systems where the failure of some component of the system may influence the remaining ones. We consider nonparametric estimation of the cumulative hazard function, the reliability function and the quantile function of sequential k-out-of-n systems. Furthermore, nonparametric hypothesis testing for sequential k-out-of-n-systems is examined. We make use of counting processes to show strong consistency and weak convergence of the estimators and to derive the asymptotic distribution of the test statistics.  相似文献

A consective k-out-of-n system consists of n linearly or cycliccally ordered components such that the system fails if and only if at least k consecutive components fail. In this paper we consider a maintained system where each component is repaired independently of the others according to an exponential distribution. Assuming general lifetime distributions for system's components we prove a limit theorem for the time to first failure of both linear and circular systems.  相似文献

Sequential order statistics have been introduced to model sequential k-out-of-n systems which, as an extension of k-out-of-n systems, allow the failure of some components of the system to influence the remaining ones. Based on an independent sample of vectors of sequential order statistics, the maximum likelihood estimators of the model parameters of a sequential k-out-of-n system are derived under order restrictions. Special attention is paid to the simultaneous maximum likelihood estimation of the model parameters and the distribution parameters for a flexible location-scale family. Furthermore, order restricted hypothesis tests are considered for making the decision whether the usual k-out-of-n model or the general sequential k-out-of-n model is appropriate for a given data.  相似文献

The concept of mean residual life is one of the most important characteristics that has been widely used in dynamic reliability analysis. It is a useful tool for investigating ageing properties of technical systems. In this paper, we define and study three different mean residual life functions for k-out-of-n:G system with a single cold standby component. In particular, we obtain explicit expressions for the corresponding functions using distributions of order statistics. We also provide some stochastic ordering results associated with the lifetime of a system. We illustrate the results for various lifetime distributions.  相似文献

In this paper, we establish several recurrence relations satisfied by the single and product moments of progressive Type-II right censored order statistics from an exponential distribution. These relations may then be used, for example, to compute all the means, variances and covariances of exponential progressive Type-II right censored order statistics for all sample sizes n and all censoring schemes (R 1, R 2, ..., R m ), mn. The results presented in the paper generalize the results given by Joshi (1978, Sankhy Ser. B, 39, 362–371; 1982, J. Statist. Plann. Inference, 6, 13–16) for the single moments and product moments of order statistics from the exponential distribution. To further generalize these results, we consider also the right truncated exponential distribution. Recurrence relations for the single and product moments are established for progressive Type-II right censored order statistics from the right truncated exponential distribution.  相似文献

This paper considers estimating parameters in the discrete distributions of order k such as the binomial, the geometric, the Poisson and the logarithmic series distributions of order k. It is discussed how to calculate maximum likelihood estimates of parameters of the distributions based on independent observations. Further, asymptotic properties of estimators by the method of moments are investigated. In some cases, it is found that the values of asymptotic efficiency of the moment estimators are surprisingly close to one.  相似文献

Anm-consecutive-k-out-of-n:F system is a system ofn linearly arranged components which fails if and only if at leastm non-overlapping sequences ofk components fail, when there arek distinct components with failure probabilitiesq i fori=1,...,k and where the failure probability of thej-th component (j=rk+i (1 ≤ik) isq j =q i , we call this system by anm-consecutive-k-out-of-n:F system with cycle (or period)k. In this paper we give a formula of the failure probability ofm-consecutive-k-out-of-n:F system with cyclek via the failure probability of consecutive-k-out-of-n:F system.  相似文献

In the literature of reliability engineering, reliability of the weighted k-out-of-n system can be calculated using component reliability based on the structure function. The calculation usually assumes that the true component reliability is completely known. However, this is not the case in practical applications. Instead, component reliability has to be estimated using empirical sample data. Uncertainty arises during this estimation process and propagates to the system level. This paper studies the propagation mechanism of estimation uncertainty through the universal generating function method. Equations of the complete solution including the unbiased system reliability estimator and the corresponding unbiased covariance estimator are derived. This is a unified approach. It can be applied to weighted k-out-of-n systems with multi-state components, to weighted k-out-of-n systems with binary components, and to simple series and parallel systems. It may also serve as building blocks to derive estimators of system reliability and uncertainty measures for more complicated systems.  相似文献

Uncertain random variables are tools to deal with a mixture of uncertainty and randomness. A new concept of order statistics associated with uncertain random variables is proposed, and is applied to analyze k-out-of-n systems with uncertain random lifetimes. The chance distributions of order statistics of uncertain random variables are derived from the operational law of uncertain random variables. Finally, the reliability of k-out-of-n systems with uncertain random lifetimes is discussed.  相似文献

Sharp upper and lower bounds are obtained for the reliability functions and the expectations of lifetimes of coherent systems based on dependent exchangeable absolutely continuous components with a given marginal distribution function, by use of the concept of Samaniego's signature. We first show that the distribution of any coherent system based on exchangeable components with absolutely continuous joint distribution is a convex combination of distributions of order statistics (equivalent to the k-out-of-n systems) with the weights identical with the values of the Samaniego signature of the system. This extends the Samaniego representation valid for the case of independent and identically distributed components. Combining the representation with optimal bounds on linear combinations of distribution functions of order statistics from dependent identically distributed samples, we derive the corresponding reliability and expectation bounds, dependent on the signature of the system and marginal distribution of dependent components. We also present the sequences of exchangeable absolutely continuous joint distributions of components which attain the bounds in limit. As an application, we obtain the reliability bounds for all the coherent systems with three and four exchangeable components, expressed in terms of the parent marginal reliability function and specify the respective expectation bounds for exchangeable exponential components, comparing them with the lifetime expectations of systems with independent and identically distributed exponential components.  相似文献

Under the reliability NBU/NWU conditions, the exponential distribution is characterized by stochastic ordering properties which link the geometric compound with minimum order statistics or spacings of order statistics. This somewhat answers a question posed by Kakosyan, Klebanov and Melamed (1984,Characterization of Distributions by the Method of intensively Monotone Operators, Springer, New York). We also show the related results based on the residual life in a renewal process and on record values. Finally, some fundamental properties of the NBUC/NWUC classes of life distributions are investigated.  相似文献

An “m-consecutive-k-out-of-n:F system” consists of n components ordered on a line; the system fails if and only if there are at least m nonoverlapping runs of k consecutive failed components. In this paper, we give a recursive formula to compute the reliability of such a system. Thereafter, we state two asymptotic results concerning the failure time Z n of the system. The first result concerns a limit theorem for Z n when the failure times of components are not necessarily with identical failure distributions. In the second one, we prove that, for an arbitrary common failure distribution of components, the limit system failure distribution is always of the Poisson class.   相似文献

A system with n independent components which has a k-out-of-n: G structure operates if at least k components operate. Parallel systems are 1-out-of-n: G systems, that is, the system goes out of service when all of its components fail. This paper investigates the mean residual life function of systems with independent and nonidentically distributed components. Some examples related to some lifetime distribution functions are given. We present a numerical example for evaluating the relationship between the mean residual life of the k-out-of-n: G system and that of its components.  相似文献

In situations where the experimental or sampling units in a study can be easily ranked than quantified, McIntyre (1952,Aust. J. Agric. Res.,3, 385–390) proposed that the mean ofn units based on aranked set sample (RSS) be used to estimate the population mean, and observed that it provides an unbiased estimator with a smaller variance compared to a simple random sample (SRS) of the same sizen. McIntyre's concept ofRSS is essentially nonparametric in nature in that the underlying population distribution is assumed to be completely unknown. In this paper we further explore the concept ofRSS when the population is partially known and the parameter of interest is not necessarily the mean. To be specific, we address the problem of estimation of the parameters of a two-parameter exponential distribution. It turns out that the use ofRSS and its suitable modifications results in much improved estimators compared to the use of aSRS.  相似文献

In this paper, the joint distribution of some special linear combinations of the (internally) studentized order statistics are derived for both normal and exponential populations; the exact relationship between their pdf's is also obtained. The exact sampling distributions of studentized extreme deviation statistic, which has been proposed by Pearson and Chandra Sekar (1936,Biometrika,28, 308–320), are derived for these two populations. An application to the most powerful location and scale invariant test is discussed briefly.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the linear and circular consecutive k-out-of-n systems consisting of arbitrarily dependent components. Under the condition that at least n?r+1 components (rn) of the system are working at time t, we study the reliability properties of the residual lifetime of such systems. Also, we present some stochastic ordering properties of residual lifetime of consecutive k-out-of-n systems. In the following, we investigate the inactivity time of the component with lifetime Tr:n at the system level for the consecutive k-out-of-n systems under the condition that the system is not working at time t > 0, and obtain some stochastic properties of this conditional random variable.  相似文献

Summary This paper analyses the shift in parameter of a life test model. This analysis depends on the prediction of order statistics in future samples based on order statistics in a series of earlier samples in life tests having a general exponential model. While a series ofk samples are being drawn, model itself undergoes a change. Firstly, a single shift is considered and the effect of this shift on the variance is discussed. Generalisation withs shifts (s≦k) ink samples in also taken up and the semi-or-used priors (SOUPS) have been used to get predictive distributions. Finally, shift afteri (i≦k) stages, from exponential to gamma model is considered and for this case effect of the shift on the variance as well as on the Bayesian prediction region (BPR) is analysed along with set of tables.  相似文献

A multiparameter negative binomial distribution of order k is obtained by compounding the extended (or multiparameter) Poisson distribution of order k by the gamma distribution. A multiparameter logarithmic series distribution of order k is derived next, as the zero truncated limit of the first distribution. Finally a few genesis schemes and interrelationships are established for these three multiparameter distributions of order k. The present work extends several properties of distributions of order k.  相似文献
