The synthesis and structure determinations of (2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxolan-4-yl)-methyl acrylate, 4-(2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxolan-4-yl)methyl itaconate, and [(2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxolan-4-yl)methyl] methyl fumarate are described. Reactivity ratios in the copolymerization of these monomers with other comonomers are reported and the Alfrey-Price Q and e values calculated. The post-polymerization study of the effects of ultraviolet light and heat on these polymers and copolymers is presented. The 1,3-dioxolane group when appended to the polymer chain performs as an internal ultraviolet sensitizer. A mechanism is offered to explain the crosslinking behavior of these polymers when treated with ultraviolet light.  相似文献

(2-Ethyl-2-methyl-1,3-dioxolan-4-yl)methyl- and (2-methyl-2-phenyl-1,3-dioxolan-4-yl) methyl acrylates were synthesized and polymerized. The photochemical behavior of the resulting polymers was investigated to determine whether the polymers pending on the 1,3-dioxolane structure were readily crosslinked with ultraviolet (UV) irradiation. The degree of crosslinking was estimated by the weight-loss method by immersion in acetone, with the result that the polymer with an aromatic substituent was more photocrosslinkable than the polymer that bore the aliphatic substituent. The catalytic effect on photocrosslinking of polymers was also studied by using benzoin and cobalt naphthenate. The infrared (IR) spectra of polymers irradiated in air that showed the new band at 3450 cm?1 were attributed to a hydroxyl group; however, the spectra of polymers irradiated in vacuum displayed little absorption at 3450 cm?1. To explain the mechanism of crosslinking model compounds were prepared and irradiated with UV light. It was concluded that crosslinking proceeds mainly from the fission of the 1,3-dioxolane ring and the coupling of the yielding radicals, together with autooxidation by atmospheric oxygen.  相似文献

Abstract

Postpolymerization of vinyl monomers initiated by pendant peroxycarbonate groups of grafted polymer chains on carbon black (CB) was investigated. The grafting of polymers having pendant peroxycarbonate groups onto CB was achieved by the trapping of polymer radicals formed by the thermal decomposition of copolymers of t-butylperoxy-2-methacryloyloxyethyl-carbonate (HEPO) with vinyl monomers such as vinyl acetate (VAc), styrene (St) and methyl methacrylate (MMA). The copolymers having pendant peroxycarbonate groups were prepared by copolym-erization of HEPO with vinyl monomers using azo initiator under irradiation of UV light at room temperature. The amount of remaining pendant peroxycarbonate groups of the poly(VAc-co-HEPO)-grafted CB obtained from the reaction at 90°C was maximum and decreased above the temperature. Furthermore, the postpolymerization of vinyl monomers, such as St, MMA, and VAc was initiated in the presence of poly(VAc-co-HEPO)-grafted and poly(St-co-HEPO)-grafted CB and the corresponding polymers were postgrafted onto CB to give branched polymer-grafted CB. The percentage of poly(St)-postgrafting (proportion of post-grafted poly(St) to poly(MMA-co-HEPO)-grafted CB used) increased with increasing polymerization time, but became constant at 20% after 4 hours.  相似文献

(2-Oxo-1,3-dioxolan-4-yl) methyl vinyl ether (OVE) was synthesized with high yield by addition reaction of glycidyl vinyl ether with carbon dioxide using tetrabutylammonium bromide (TBAB) as a catalyst. OVE was also prepared by reaction with β-butyrolactone or sodium hydrogencarbonate in the presence of TBAB as the catalyst. Poly [(2-oxo-1,3-dioxolan-4-yl) methyl vinyl ether] [P(OVE)] was obtained with high yield by cationic polymerization of OVE catalyzed using boron trifluoride diethyl ether complex in dichloromethane. Polymers bearing pendant 5-membered cyclic carbonate groups were also prepared by radical copolymerization of OVE with some electron-accepting monomers. Furthermore, addition reaction of P(OVE) with alkyl amines yielded the corresponding polymer having pendant 2-hydroxyethyl carbamate residue with high conversions. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

Novel copolymers composed of a styrene (St) derivative bearing a vicinal tricarbonyl moiety and various vinyl monomers such as St, methyl methacrylate (MMA), and N‐vinylpyrrolidone (NVP) were synthesized by (1) radical copolymerization of a St derivative with a 1,3‐diketone structure with St, MMA, and NVP and (2) successive oxidation of the resulting copolymers with N‐bromosuccinimide in DMSO to convert their 1,3‐diketone moieties in the side chains into the corresponding vicinal tricarbonyl moieties. Their tricarbonyl moieties were readily hydrated in water‐containing acetone to generate the corresponding copolymers bearing geminal diol structures in the side chains. On the other hand, heating the resulting copolymers bearing the geminal diol structures in vacuo‐enabled successful recovery of the vicinal tricarbonyl moieties to demonstrate the reversible nature of this system. The mechanism for the photoinduced release of glycolic acid from its 2-nitrobenzyl ether was reinvestigated. The pH-dependent rate constants of the thermal reactions initiated by irradiation are similar to those reported previously for 2-nitrobenzyl methyl ether. Novel 1,3-dioxolane C-nucleoside analogues of tiazofurin 2-(2-hydroxymethyl-1,3-dioxolan-4-yl)-1,3-thiazole4-carboxamide as well as N-nucleoside analogues of substituted imidazoles 1-(2-hydroxymethyl-1,3-dioxolan4-yl)-4-nitroimidazole and 1-(2-hydroxymethyl-1,3-dioxolan-4-yl)-4,5-dicyanoimidazole were synthesized from methyl acrylate through a multistep procedure. Abstract

The behavior of benzyl bromide functionalized poly(phenyleneethynylene)s as macroinitiators in the atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of methyl methacrylate (MMA) was investigated. The 1H NMR observation of the ATRP using the exclusively para‐linked poly(phenyleneethynylene) macroinitiator PPE1A, and the low molecular weight initiator R‐BzBr, respectively, revealed lower reactivity for the macroinitiator. Comparison of graft copolymers, which were obtained from ATRP of MMA with PPE1A and the partially meta‐linked poly(phenyleneethynylene) PPE1B, showed higher reactivity in the case of PPE1B, expressed by a larger degree of polymerization in the PMMA side chains, as well as higher initiatior efficiency. This might be caused by better solubility of the less symmetric PPE1B. Investigation of the graft copolymers PPE2A and PPE2B was carried out by means of 1H NMR spectroscopy, gel permeation chromatography (GPC) as well as UV/vis spectroscopy. Impairment of the delocalized π‐electron system of the conjugated polymers during the ATRP was not detectable.  相似文献

Poly[(2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxolan-4-yl)methyl methacrylate)] [poly(solketal methacrylate) (PSMA)] was synthesized by free radical polymerization. By partial hydrolysis of the acetal group, random copolymers of SMA with 2,3-dihydroxypropyl methacrylate (DHPMA) were synthesized whereas complete cleavage lead to poly(2,3-dihydroxypropyl methacrylate) (PDHPMA). The copolymer composition was determined by 1H NMR spectroscopy. FTIR spectroscopy indicates the synthesis of random copolymers with different degrees of hydrogen bonding as measured by a shift of the OH vibration bands. The glass transition temperature of the random copolymers increases linearly with increasing DHPMA content, resulting in a positive deviation from the Fox equation. The thermal degradation of both homopolymers and their random copolymers has been studied. Finally, the solution behaviour of the copolymers and PDHPMA in water studied by dynamic light scattering showed a strong tendency of the polymer chains to form clusters in the size range of 15-62 nm. The size and the kind of associating interactions within the clusters strongly depend on the copolymer composition.  相似文献

Methods to micropattern multiple protein components on surfaces under mild conditions are of interest for biosensing, proteomics, and fundamental studies in cell biology. Here, we report on the composition-dependent thin-film solubility behavior of o-nitrobenzyl methacrylate (oNBMA, a protected form of methacrylic acid)/methyl methacrylate (MMA)/poly(ethylene glycol) methacrylate (PEGMA) random terpolymers, materials which are promising as aqueous-processible photoresists. Over a broad range of terpolymer compositions, these materials formed initially water-insoluble films, which, upon UV irradiation, rapidly dissolved in aqueous solutions above a critical pH. This threshold pH ranged from approximately 5-7 depending upon the copolymer composition and decreased as the relative ratio of MMA to PEGMA in the copolymers decreased. In addition, in a narrow window of compositions near 35:0:65 oNBMA/MMA/PEGMA (wt ratio), an inverse behavior was observed: thin films that were initially water soluble became kinetically stable in aqueous solutions after UV exposure. The time for these films to completely dissolve was hours rather than seconds, and the rate of dissolution was both temperature- and pH-dependent. This behavior is consistent with a transient stability imparted by inter- and intramolecular hydrogen bonding in the film. Using copolymers of this composition as negative tone photoresists, we demonstrated patterning of two proteins into two discrete regions of a surface. The selective solubility of the resist copolymer allows the entire patterning process to be completed using only biological buffers as solvents and across a temperature range between 4 and 37 degrees C without subjecting either protein to ultraviolet irradiation or dehydration. These materials are thus of interest for complex surface photopatterning under mild aqueous conditions.  相似文献

Polystyrene-block-poly(5,6-benzo-2-methylene-1,3-dioxepane) (PSt-b-PBMDO), poly(methyl methacrylate)-block-PBMDO (PMMA-b-PBMDO) and poly(methyl acrylate)-block-PBMDO (PMA-b-PBMDO) were synthesized by two-step atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of conventional vinyl monomers, then BMDO. First, the polymerization of St, or MMA, or MA was realized by ATRP with ethyl α-bromobutyrate (EBrB) as initiator in conjunction with CuBr and 2,2-bipyridine (bpy). After isolation, polymers with terminal bromine, PSt-Br, PMMA-Br and PMA-Br, were obtained. Second, the ATRP of BMDO was performed by using macroinitiator, PSt-Br (or PMMA-Br, PMA-Br) in the presence of CuBr/bpy. The structures of block copolymers were characterized by 1H NMR spectra. Molecular weight and polydispersity index were determined on gel permeation chromatograph. Among the block copolymers obtained, PMA-b-PBMDO shows the most narrow molecular weight distribution.  相似文献

This work describes thermal analysis evaluation of a glycerol derived compound (fatty acid esters of (2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxolan-4-yl) methanol) developed to work as a biofuel. Mixtures of these ketal–glyceryl esters with fatty acid methyl esters typical of soybean biodiesel were prepared and evaluated in relation to biodiesel critical thermal properties such as temperature of crystallization, thermal stability and volatilization measured by differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetric analysis. The volatility of the products containing fatty acid methyl esters and (2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxolan-4-yl) methyl esters could be predicted by thermogravimetric analyses conducted in nitrogen that avoided time consuming distillation and greatly reduced material expenditure.  相似文献

Block copolymers composed of hydrophilic poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) and hydrophobic biodegradable polyesters have been reported as thermogelling polymers, because they feature temperature-dependent sol-to-gel or gel-to-sol transitions in aqueous solutions. In this study, a series of thermogelling poly(ethylene glycol methyl ether)-block–poly(cyclohexylenedimethylene adipate)-block–poly(ethylene glycol methyl ether) triblock copolymers and PEG-block–poly(cyclohexylenedimethylene adipate) multiblock copolymers was synthesized by reacting hydroxyl-terminated poly(cyclohexylenedimethylene adipate) (PCA) with poly(ethylene glycol methyl ether) and PEG, respectively, using 1,6-diisocyanatohexane as the coupling agent. Two hydroxyl-terminated PCAs, i.e., poly(1,4-cyclohexylenedimethylene adipate) and poly(1,3/1,4-cyclohexylenedimethylene adipate), were synthesized by the condensation reaction of adipic acid (AA) with 1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol (CHDM) and 1,3/1,4-CHDM, respectively, and used as the hydrophobic polyester blocks of these thermogelling copolymers to compare the effect of crystallinity on the sol-to-gel transition behavior.The polymers were characterized using proton nuclear magnetic resonance, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, gel permeation chromatography, differential scanning calorimetry, solubility testing, and rheological analysis. Experimental results revealed that the structure of the PCA block (crystalline vs. amorphous), the molecular weights of the hydrophobic PCA and hydrophilic PEG blocks, and the type of thermogelling polymer (triblock vs. multiblock) influenced the solubility, polymer micelle packing characteristics, maximum storage modulus, and sol-to-gel temperature of the polymers. Among all the samples at 40 wt.% aqueous solutions, triblock copolymer TB3 showed sol-to-gel temperature at 22 °C, and had the highest maximum storage modulus about 170 Pa.  相似文献

Two analogues of diphenylethene carrying phenanthrene (1-(9-phenanthryl)-1-phenylethene (PPE)) and anthracene (1-(2-anthryl)-1-phenylethene (APE)) units were used in radical polymerization of styrene (St) and methyl methacrylate (MMA) at 80 °C using AIBN as initiator. Because of the nature of the polymerization, the resulting polymers possess the corresponding chromophoric groups. Using the methodology of a DPE system, these labelled polymers were further used for the synthesis of block copolymers. In this way poly(methyl methacrylate)-b-poly(styrene) and poly(methyl methacrylate)-b-poly(acrylonitrile) with molar masses of 60,000-90,000 g/mol were synthesized. Incorporation of the chromophoric groups into both homo- and block copolymers was confirmed by spectral measurements.  相似文献

The synthesis and characterization of a photocleavable block copolymer containing an ortho‐nitrobenzyl (ONB) linker between poly(methyl methacrylate) and poly(d ‐lactide) blocks is presented here. The block copolymers were synthesized via atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of MMA followed by ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of d ‐Lactide and ROP of d ‐lactide followed by ATRP of MMA from a difunctional photoresponsive ONB initiator, respectively. The challenges and limitations during synthesis of the photocleavable block copolymers using the difunctional photoresponsive ONB initiator are discussed. The photocleavage of the copolymers occurs under mild conditions by simple irradiation with 302 nm wavelength UV light (Relative intensity at 7.6 cm: 1500 μW/cm2) for several hours. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Photo crosslinking due to the photo polymerization of unsaturated acrylic side-groups attached to copolymers of glycidyl methacrylate and methyl methacrylate (GMA-MMA) by reaction with acrylic acid in the presence of benzoin methyl ether as photolabile initiator has been investigated. The composition of these copolymers based on (GMA-MMA, 30:70) were determined by [1H] NMR spectroscopy. The reactivity ratios for the GMA-MMA system were determined using the Kelen-Tüdös method.

The dielectric properties of copolymers based on GMA-MMA acrylate ester (30:70) and homopolymers of MMA in combination with different polyfunctional acrylate ester monomers before and after exposure to UV irradiation have been studied in a solid state matrix, over a frequency range of 100 Hz to 50 kHz and at temperatures in the range 20–70°C.  相似文献

By oximes reaction with glycidyl vinyl ether O-[2-hydroxy-3-(vinyloxy)propyl]oximes of ketones and acetaldehyde were synthesized in 54–72% yield, and by acid catalysis the compounds were converted into O-[(2-methyl-1,3-dioxolan-4-yl)methyl]oximes in 61–88% yield.  相似文献
