The activity concentrations of natural radionuclides in sands, gravels, cements and in different kinds of concretes were measured by -spectrometric methods. The222Rn exhalation rate from concretes was measured by closed chamber method and the emanation coefficient was calculated. Radon α-activity concentrations have been measured inside and outside various building materials by combining a calculational method with the solid state nuclear track detector (SSNTD) technique. Radon emanation coefficients of the studied materials have been evaluated. A new calibration method for determining the radium (226Ra) and thorium (232Th) specific activities of the considered building materials has been developed. The radon production rates per unit volume of the studied materials have been evaluated. The influence of the material porosity on the radon emanation coefficient and radon production rate have been investigated.  相似文献

In this work the use of our recently constructed irradiation chamber was involved in the current experiments. The absorption of alpha particle in air has been studied through a set of experiments in which the stopping power has been measured. A comparison between the calculated values and the present experimental results is given and a good agreement has been found. Critical angle (θc) determination has been carried out using two different techniques, via indirect and direct measurements, under different etching conditions and at various alpha energies. An empirical fit of θch (h is the removal thickness layer) dependence has been calculated and found to work well in the studied h ranges. Also, the inclined alpha tracks parameters of energies between 1.0 and 5.0 MeV have been studied. Results can be successfully applicable in alpha autoradiography studies and detector efficiency determination for track registration in plastic recorders.  相似文献

A device consisting of poly allyl diglycol carbonate (PADC) foils with a polyethylene and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) radiator was calibrated in order to perform the dosimetry of an 241Am-Be source covering a dose range from 0 to 3.1 mSv. Working conditions were established for a good visualization and counting of tracks: chemical attack was made in two steps with different solutions and etching times. A good fit was obtained for the dose as a function of the number of tracks per unit surface area. The calculated decision threshold was 0.12 mSv.  相似文献

Indoor radon and thoron concentrations were dominated with their exhalation rate from building materials. Thus, the evaluation of exhalation rate with highly precise is important. This paper presented a new technique to measure the dependence radon/thoron exhalation rate, from building materials used in Japan, on absolute humidity. The measurement technique consisted of a solid state alpha detector equipped a ventilation-type chamber and humidity control system in a flow through method. The exhalation rate of dried samples (Indian red granite and Japanese gray granite) was measured at various absolute humidity levels in the range of 1–20 g cm−3. It was found that exhalation rate increased exponential with increasing of absolute humidity for both samples. Furthermore, the dependence of radon emanation coefficient on building material’s temperature was also studied using an accumulation chamber equipped with scintillation cell alpha detector. The emanation coefficient of dry sample increased proportionally with increasing the material’s temperature with a correlation factor of 0.88.  相似文献

Wasted petroleum, scale and sludge, samples associated with petroleum industries have elevated level of radionuclides concentrations which increase the radiation dose received to the workers. Radon concentration, emanation coefficient and exhalation rate give good information about the radioactivity levels. Twelve samples of scale, sludge and sand, collected from different oil fields in the Red Sea Refineries company for petroleum services in the eastern desert of Egypt, were selected for this study. Radon concentration released from selected samples was measured using AlphaGUARD radon monitor. Radon emanation coefficient and its exhalation rate were calculated based on the measured value of radon concentration. Correlation among radon exhalation rate with radium content and “emanated radon concentration” (radium concentration × emanation coefficient) as well were found to be of 0.94 and 0.99, respectively. Therefore, radon exhalation rate could be useful index for both radium concentration and emanated radon. Radon emanation coefficient was increased more than twice due to water content within material of less than of 10 %.  相似文献

Extraction of microamounts of cesium by nitrobenzene solutions of sodium, ammonium and thallium dicarbollylcobaltates (M+B; M+ = Na+, NH4+, Tl+) in the presence of benzo-15-crown-5 (B15C5, L) has been investigated. The equilibrium data have been explained assuming that the complexes ML+ and ML2+ (M+ = Na+, NH4+, Tl+; L = B15C5) are present in the organic phase. In the first part of this paper, the influence of radon (222Rn) exhalation rate from walls and air exchange upon its concentration in room air was considered using a simple mathematical room model. The exhalation rates have been determined in ten low ventilated rooms of ten villas in Jeddah city (Western Province) of Saudi Arabia. An electroprecipitation method has been applied for the determination of the 222Rn gas concentration in these rooms. The mean 222Rn gas concentration was found to be 46.80±8.80 Bq m?3. The mean 222Rn exhalation rate was estimated to be 20.11±6.90 Bq m?2 h?1. The mean inhalation dose due to the exposure to 222Rn gas was calculated to be 1.18±2.30 mSv y?1.The second part of this paper deals with a study of natural radionuclide contents of samples collected from the building materials of these rooms under investigations in part one. Analyses were performed in Marinelli beakers with a gamma spectroscopy system to quantify radioactivity concentrations. The collected samples revealed the presence of the uranium–radium (226Ra) and thorium (232Th) radioisotopes as well as 40K. The mean activity concentration of 226Ra, 232Th and 40K was determined to be 48.30±5.08, 43.90±5.63 and 223.90±7.55 Bq kg?1, respectively. These activities amount to a radium equivalent (Raeq) of 125.96±15.90 Bq kg?1 and to a mean value of external hazard index (Hex) of 0.34±0.04.  相似文献

This paper presents the extent of thoron (220Rn) interference in the radon (222Rn) exhalation rate, measured by solid state nuclear track detector based ‘Can’ technique. Experiments were carried out following the standard procedure of ‘Can’ technique as well as active technique as a reference method for 222Rn and 220Rn exhalation measurements. It was found that 220Rn interference may lead to overestimation of 222Rn exhalation by a significant factor which can be as high as 12 depending upon the rate of 220Rn exhalation from samples.  相似文献

Kodak LR-115 type II solid state nuclear track detectors (SSNTD) have been used for determining uranium contents in different phosphatic sedimentary rock samples. These samples belong to different stratigraphic layers from the upper Cretaceous to Paleogene in the Marrakech neighboring High Atlas north flank area. Measurements have been made of radon (222Rn), release from diverse quaternary samples collected from different sediment deposits in the Errachidia and Beni-Mellal areas (Morocco). The radon diffusion coefficient as one of some important parameters of radon transport in the soil has been measured using solid state nuclear track detectors (SSNTD). Radon -activity, uranium content and radon exhalation rate have been determined in the studied samples. Uranium concentrations were found to vary from 0.14 to 9.52 ppm whereas the radon exhalation rate varied from 0.003 to 0.145 Bq.m-2.h-1. A positive correlation has been found between radon exhalation rate and uranium content in the studied samples. The average radon diffusion coefficients were found to vary from (1.26±0.09).10-6 m2.s-1 to (4.3±0.36).10-6 m2.s-1. Furthermore, the correlation between 222Rn diffusion coefficient and porosity are also discussed.  相似文献
