We establish the oscillatory behavior of several significant classes of arithmetic functions that arise (at least presumably) in the study of automorphic forms. Specifically, we examine general L-functions conjectured to satisfy the Grand Riemann Hypothesis, Dirichlet series associated with classical entire forms of real weight and multiplier system, Rankin-Selberg convolutions (both “naive” and “modified”), and spinor zeta-functions of Hecke eigenforms on the Siegel modular group of genus two. For the second class we extend results obtained previously and jointly by M. Knopp, W. Kohnen, and the author, whereas for the fourth class we provide a new proof of a relatively recent result of W. Kohnen.  相似文献

This paper deals with both Dirichlet and Neumann problems for a class of nonlinear degenerate elliptic equations with general growth in the gradient. First, we give an existence result of a spherically symmetric solution to the “symmetrized” problems with data depending only on the radials. Second, we prove that the solutions of the original problems can be compared, under a rearrangement, with the solutions of the “symmetrized” problems.  相似文献

A new version of Montgomery's conjecture (1971) on the estimation of Dirichlet sums is disproved by means of a modification of the idea of “short sums” (due to Bourgain, 1991). We also study the distribution of the values of Dirichlet's “long sums”.  相似文献

This paper establishes a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of a unique bounded solution to the classical Dirichlet problem in arbitrary open subset of RNRN (N≥3N3) with a non-compact boundary. The criterion is the exact analogue of Wiener’s test for the boundary regularity of harmonic functions and characterizes the “thinness” of a complementary set at infinity. The Kelvin transformation counterpart of the result reveals that the classical Wiener criterion for the boundary point is a necessary and sufficient condition for the unique solvability of the Dirichlet problem in a bounded open set within the class of harmonic functions having a “fundamental solution” kind of singularity at the fixed boundary point. Another important outcome is that the classical Wiener’s test at the boundary point presents a necessary and sufficient condition for the “fundamental solution” kinds of singularities of the solution to the Dirichlet problem to be removable.  相似文献

In this paper, we study a class of nonlinear value boundary problems for second order differential inclusions with nonlinear perturbations, which satisfy the generalized Hartman condition weaker than that considered in some papers. Using techniques from multivalued analysis, theory of monotone operators and fixed points, we prove the existence of solutions in both “convex” and “nonconvex” cases. Our framework can be incorporated with Dirichlet, Neumann, and mixed boundary problems.  相似文献

Let Ω be a domain of . As a study of boundary behavior of functions and maps in Ω, we consider “the linear cluster set,” which is the cluster set along segment terminating at a boundary point of Ω. We prove that there exist bounded holomorphic functions and maps defined in Ω which have the linear cluster sets of positive measure at every point of a discrete subset of the boundary of Ω under some conditions.  相似文献

In the literature about algebraic geometry codes one finds a lot of results improving Goppa’s minimum distance bound. These improvements often use the idea of “shrinking” or “growing” the defining divisors of the codes under certain technical conditions. The main contribution of this article is to show that most of these improvements can be obtained in a unified way from one (rather simple) theorem. Our result does not only simplify previous results but it also improves them further.  相似文献

We study the rate of convergence of some recursive procedures based on some “exact” or “approximate” Euler schemes which converge to the invariant measure of an ergodic SDE driven by a Lévy process. The main interest of this work is to compare the rates induced by “exact” and “approximate” Euler schemes. In our main result, we show that replacing the small jumps by a Brownian component in the approximate case preserves the rate induced by the exact Euler scheme for a large class of Lévy processes.  相似文献

We construct special sequences of solutions to a fourth order nonlinear parabolic equation of Cahn-Hilliard/Allen-Cahn type, converging to the second order Allen-Cahn equation. We consider the evolution equation without boundary, as well as the stationary case on domains with Dirichlet boundary conditions. The proofs exploit the equivalence of the fourth order equation with a system of two second order elliptic equations with “good signs”.  相似文献

The aim of this paper is the study of some random probability distributions, called hyper-Dirichlet processes. In the simplest situation considered in the paper these distributions charge the product of three sample spaces, with the property that the first and the last component are independent conditional to the middle one. The law of the marginals on the first two and on the last two components are specified to be Dirichlet processes with the same marginal parameter measure on the common second component. The joint law is then obtained as the hyper-Markov combination, introduced in [A.P. Dawid, S.L. Lauritzen, Hyper-Markov laws in the statistical analysis of decomposable graphical models, Ann. Statist. 21 (3) (1993) 1272-1317], of these two Dirichlet processes. The processes constructed in this way in fact are in fact generalizations of the hyper-Dirichlet laws on contingency tables considered in the above paper. Our main result is the convergence to the hyper-Dirichlet process of the sequence of hyper-Dirichlet laws associated to finer and finer “discretizations” of the two parameter measures, which is proved by means of a suitable coupling construction.  相似文献

we investigata th existence of positive solutions of a Dirichlet problem for the system in a bounded convex domain Ω of Rn with smooth boundary. In particular a priori bounds are obtained in the same spirit as in De Figueiredo – Lions – Nussbaum.  相似文献

We prove that every countably additive polymeasure can be decomposed in a unique way as the sum of a “discrete” polymeasure plus a “continuous” polymeasure. This generalizes a previous result of Saeki.  相似文献

We study a mathematical model describing the dynamics of dislocation densities in crystals. This model is expressed as a 1D system of a parabolic equation and a first order Hamilton–Jacobi equation that are coupled together. We examine an associated Dirichlet boundary value problem. We prove the existence and uniqueness of a viscosity solution among those assuming a lower-bound on their gradient for all time including the initial time. Moreover, we show the existence of a viscosity solution when we have no such restriction on the initial data. We also state a result of existence and uniqueness of entropy solution for the initial value problem of the system obtained by spatial derivation. The uniqueness of this entropy solution holds in the class of bounded-from-below solutions. In order to prove our results on the bounded domain, we use an “extension and restriction” method, and we exploit a relation between scalar conservation laws and Hamilton–Jacobi equations, mainly to get our gradient estimates.  相似文献

We extend the Kreiss-Majda theory of stability of hyperbolic initial-boundary-value and shock problems to a class of systems, notably including the equations of magnetohydrodynamics (MHD), for which Majda's block structure condition does not hold: namely, simultaneously symmetrizable systems with characteristics of variable multiplicity, satisfying at points of variable multiplicity either a “totally nonglancing” or a “nonglancing and linearly splitting” condition. At the same time, we give a simple characterization of the block structure condition as “geometric regularity” of characteristics, defined as analyticity of associated eigenprojections. The totally nonglancing or nonglancing and linearly splitting conditions are generically satisfied in the simplest case of crossings of two characteristics, and likewise for our main physical examples of MHD or Maxwell equations for a crystal. Together with previous analyses of spectral stability carried out by Gardner-Kruskal and Blokhin-Trakhinin, this yields immediately a number of new results of nonlinear inviscid stability of shock waves in MHD in the cases of parallel or transverse magnetic field, and recovers the sole previous nonlinear result, obtained by Blokhin-Trakhinin by direct “dissipative integral” methods, of stability in the zero-magnetic field limit. We also discuss extensions to the viscous case.  相似文献

Mixed boundary value problems are characterised by a combination of Dirichlet and Neumann conditions along at least one boundary. Historically, only a very small subset of these problems could be solved using analytic series methods (“analytic” is taken here to mean a series whose terms are analytic in the complex plane). In the past, series solutions were obtained by using an appropriate choice of axes, or a co-ordinate transformation to suitable axes where the boundaries are parallel to the abscissa and the boundary conditions are separated into pure Dirichlet or Neumann form. In this paper, I will consider the more general problem where the mixed boundary conditions cannot be resolved by a co-ordinate transformation. That is, a Dirichlet condition applies on part of the boundary and a Neumann condition applies along the remaining section. I will present a general method for obtaining analytic series solutions for the classic problem where the boundary is parallel to the abscissa. In addition, I will extend this technique to the general mixed boundary value problem, defined on an arbitrary boundary, where the boundary is not parallel to the abscissa. I will demonstrate the efficacy of the method on a well known seepage problem.  相似文献

We consider the nonlinear Schrödinger equation in higher dimension with Dirichlet boundary conditions and with a nonlocal smoothing nonlinearity. We prove the existence of small amplitude periodic solutions. In the fully resonant case we find solutions which at leading order are wave packets, in the sense that they continue linear solutions with an arbitrarily large number of resonant modes. The main difficulty in the proof consists in a “small divisor problem” which we solve by using a renormalisation group approach.  相似文献

We discuss a stationary energy model from semiconductor modelling. We accept the more realistic assumption that the continuity equations for electrons and holes have to be considered only in a subdomain Ω0 of the domain of definition Ω of the energy balance equation and of the Poisson equation. Here Ω0 corresponds to the region of semiconducting material, Ω \ Ω0 represents passive layers. Metals serving as contacts are modelled by Dirichlet boundary conditions. We prove a local existence and uniqueness result for the two‐dimensional stationary energy model. For this purpose we derive a W1,p ‐regularity result for solutions of systems of elliptic equations with different regions of definition and use the Implicit Function Theorem. In this paper, we study second order differential inclusions in with a maximal monotone term and generalized boundary conditions. The nonlinear differential operator need not be necessary homogeneous and incorporates as a special case the one-dimensional p-Laplacian. The generalized boundary conditions incorporate as special cases well-known problems such as the Dirichlet (Picard), Neumann and periodic problems. As application to the proven results we obtain existence theorems for both “convex” and “nonconvex” problems when the maximal monotone term A is defined everywhere and when not (case of variational inequalities).  相似文献

In this paper the factorization method from inverse scattering theory and impedance tomography is extended to a class of general elliptic differential equations in divergence form. The inverse problem is to determine the interface ?Ω of an interior change of the material parameters from the Neumann‐Dirichlet map. Since absorption is allowed a suitable combination of the real and imaginary part of the Neumann‐Dirichlet map is needed to explicitely characterize Ω by the data. (© 2005 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. We develop eigenvalue estimates for the Laplacians on discrete and metric graphs using various types of boundary conditions at the vertices of the metric graph. Via an explicit correspondence of the equilateral metric and discrete graph spectrum (also in the “exceptional” values of the metric graph corresponding to the Dirichlet spectrum) we carry over these estimates from the metric graph Laplacian to the discrete case. We apply the results to covering graphs and present examples where the covering graph Laplacians have spectral gaps.  相似文献
