The microsolvation patterns of the uracil radical anion in water clusters U-(H2O)n with n ranging from 3 to 5 were investigated by the density functional theory approach. The electron detachment energies (VDE) of the stable anionic complexes with different numbers of hydration water are predicted. The linear dependence of the VDE value of the most stable anionic complexes with respect to the hydration number suggests the importance of the clustered waters in the microsolvation of the radical anion of the nucleobases. The formation of the water clusters is found to be necessary in the most stable conformers of the tri-, tetra-, and pentahydrated radical anion of uracil. The microsolvation pattern with three or more well-separated hydration water molecules in the first hydration layer is less stable than the arrangement with the waters in tight clusters. The charge transfer between the anionic uracil and the hydration water is high. Good agreement between the experimental and the theoretical vertical detachment energy yield in this study further demonstrates the practicability of the B3LYP/DZP++ approach in the study of radical anions of the DNA subunits.  相似文献

The hydrated nucleoside anions, uridine(-)(H(2)O)(n=0-2), cytidine(-)(H(2)O)(n=0-2), and thymidine(-)(H(2)O)(n=0,1), have been prepared in beams and studied by anion photoelectron spectroscopy in order to investigate the effects of a microhydrated environment on parent nucleoside anions. Vertical detachment energies (VDEs) were measured for all eight anions, and from these, estimates were made for five sequential anion hydration energies. Excellent agreement was found between our measured VDE value for thymidine(-)(H(2)O)(1) and its calculated value in the companion article by S. Kim and H. F. Schaefer III.  相似文献

The electronic properties, specifically, the dipole and quadrupole moments and the ionization energies of benzene (Bz) and hydrogen cyanide (HCN), and the respective binding energies, of complexes of Bz(HCN)(1-4), have been studied through MP2 and OVGF calculations. The results are compared with the properties of benzene-water complexes, Bz(H(2)O)(1-4), with the purpose of analyzing the electronic properties of microsolvated benzene, with respect to the strength of the CH/π and OH/π hydrogen-bond (H-bond) interactions. The linear HCN chains have the singular ability to interact with the aromatic ring, preserving the symmetry of the latter. A blue shift of the first vertical ionization energies (IEs) of benzene is observed for the linear Bz(HCN)(1-4) clusters, which increases with the length of the chain. NBO analysis indicates that the increase of the IE with the number of HCN molecules is related to a strengthening of the CH/π H-bond, driven by cooperative effects, increasing the acidity of the hydrogen cyanide H atom involved in the π H-bond. The longer HCN chains (n ≥ 3), however, can bend to form CH/N H-bonds with the Bz H atoms. These cyclic structures are found to be slightly more stable than their linear counterparts. For the nonlinear Bz(HCN)(3-4) and Bz(H(2)O)(2-4) complexes, an increase of the binding energy with the number of solvent molecules and a decrease of the IE of benzene, relative to the values for the Bz(HCN) and Bz(H(2)O) complexes, respectively, are observed. Although a strengthening of the CH/π and OH/π H-bonds, with increasing n, also takes place for the Bz(H(2)O)(2-4) and Bz(HCN)(3-4) nonlinear complexes, Bz proton donor, CH/O, and CH/N interactions are at the origin of this decrease. Thus CH/π and OH/π H-bonds lead to higher IEs of Bz, whereas the weaker CH/N and CH/O H-bond interactions have the opposite effect. The present results emphasize the importance of both aromatic XH/π (X = C, O) and CH/X (X = N, O) interactions for understanding the structure and electronic properties of Bz(HCN)(n) and Bz(H(2)O)(n) complexes.  相似文献

Microsolvation effects on the stabilities of uracil and its anion have been investigated by explicitly considering the structures of complexes of uracil with up to five water molecules at the B3LYPDZP++ level of theory. For all five systems, the global minimum of the neutral cluster has a different equilibrium geometry from that of the radical anion. Both the vertical detachment energy (VDE) and adiabatic electron affinity (AEA) of uracil are predicted to increase gradually with the number of hydrating molecules, qualitatively consistent with experimental results from a photodetachment-photoelectron spectroscopy study [J. Schiedt et al., Chem. Phys. 239, 511 (1998)]. The trend in the AEAs implies that while the conventional valence radical anion of uracil is only marginally bound in the gas phase, it will form a stable anion in aqueous solution. The gas-phase AEA of uracil (0.24 eV) was higher than that of thymine by 0.04 eV and this gap was not significantly affected by microsolvation. The largest AEA is that predicted for uracil(H2O)5, namely, 0.96 eV. The VDEs range from 0.76 to 1.78 eV.  相似文献

Microhydration effects on cytosine and its radical anion have been investigated theoretically, by explicitly considering various structures of cytosine complexes with up to five water molecules. Each successive water molecule (through n=5) is bound by 7-10 kcal mol(-1) to the relevant cytosine complex. The hydration energies are uniformly higher for the analogous anion systems. While the predicted vertical detachment energy (VDE) of the isolated cytosine is only 0.48 eV, it is predicted to increase to 1.27 eV for the lowest-lying pentahydrate of cytosine. The adiabatic electron affinity (AEA) of cytosine was also found to increase from 0.03 to 0.61 eV for the pentahydrate, implying that the cytosine anion, while questionable in the gas phase, is bound in aqueous solution. Both the VDE and AEA values for cytosine are smaller than those of uracil and thymine for a given hydration number. These results are in qualitative agreement with available experimental results from photodetachment-photoelectron spectroscopy studies of Schiedt et al. [Chem. Phys. 239, 511 (1998)].  相似文献

We present adiabatic electron affinities (AEAs) and the vertical detachment energies (VDEs) of the uracil molecule interacting with one to five water molecules. Credibility of MP2 and DFT/B3LYP calculations is supported by comparison with available benchmark CCSD(T) data. AEAs and VDEs obtained by MP2 and DFT/B3LYP methods copy trends of benchmark CCSD(T) results for the free uracil and uracil-water complexes in the gas phase being by 0.20 - 0.28 eV higher than CCSD(T) values depending on the particular structure of the complex. AEAs and VDEs from MP2 are underestimated by 0.09-0.15 eV. For the free uracil and uracil-(H(2)O)(n) (n = 1,2,3,5) complexes, we also consider the polarizable continuum model (PCM) and discuss the importance of the microsolvation when combined with PCM. AEAs and VDEs of uracil and uracil-water complexes enhance rapidly with increasing relative dielectric constant (ε) of the solvent. Highest AEAs and VDEs of the U(H(2)O)(5) complexes from B3LYP with ε = 78.4 are 2.03 and 2.81 eV, respectively, utilizing the correction from CCSD(T). Specific structural features of the microsolvated uracil-(H(2)O)(n) complexes and their anions are preserved also upon considering PCM in calculations of AEAs and VDEs.  相似文献

In recent years neutral indole(H2O)n clusters have been used to model the hydration of biomolecules containing an indole moiety. Both experimental and theoretical studies of the binary indole...OH2 system show NH...OH sigma hydrogen-bonding. By introducing a cation to the indole...OH2 model, cation...pi and ion...dipole electrostatic interactions are placed in direct competition with conventional indole...OH2 hydrogen-bonding. The effects, arising from a monovalent potassium cation on (indole)m(H2O)n clusters, were investigated using infrared photodissociation spectroscopy in the OH and NH stretching regions. In K+ (indole)1(H2O)(n < or = 4) and K+ (indole)2(H2O)(m < or = 3) clusters, the electrostatic ion...ligand interaction inhibits the formation of an indole NH...OH2 sigma hydrogen-bond. However, indole...H2O pi hydrogen-bonding via the five-membered indole ring is observed with three or more ligands around the ion.  相似文献

Dynamics and mechanism of proton transfer in a protonated hydrogen bond (H-bond) chain were studied, using the CH(3)OH(2)(+)(CH(3)OH)(n) complexes, n = 1-4, as model systems. The present investigations used B3LYP/TZVP calculations and Born-Oppenheimer MD (BOMD) simulations at 350 K to obtain characteristic H-bond structures, energetic and IR spectra of the transferring protons in the gas phase and continuum liquid. The static and dynamic results were compared with the H(3)O(+)(H(2)O)(n) and CH(3)OH(2)(+)(H(2)O)(n) complexes, n = 1-4. It was found that the H-bond chains with n = 1 and 3 represent the most active intermediate states and the CH(3)OH(2)(+)(CH(3)OH)(n) complexes possess the lowest threshold frequency of proton transfer. The IR spectra obtained from BOMD simulations revealed that the thermal energy fluctuation and dynamics help promote proton transfer in the shared-proton structure with n = 3 by lowering the vibrational energy for the interconversion between the oscillatory shuttling and structural diffusion motions, leading to a higher population of the structural diffusion motion than in the shared-proton structure with n = 1. Additional explanation on the previously proposed mechanisms was introduced, with the emphases on the energetic of the transferring proton, the fluctuation of the number of the CH(3)OH molecules in the H-bond chain, and the quasi-dynamic equilibriums between the shared-proton structure (n = 3) and the close-contact structures (n ≥ 4). The latter prohibits proton transfer reaction in the H-bond chain from being concerted, since the rate of the structural diffusion depends upon the lifetime of the shared-proton intermediate state.  相似文献

Microhydration effects upon the adenine-uracil (AU) base pair and its radical anion have been investigated by explicitly considering various structures of their mono- and dihydrates at the B3LYP/DZP++ level of theory. For the neutral AU base pair, 5 structures were found for the monohydrate and 14 structures for the dihydrate. In the lowest-energy structures of the neutral mono- and dihydrates, one and two water molecules bind to the AU base pair through a cyclic hydrogen bond via the N(9)-H and N(3) atoms of the adenine moiety, while the lowest-lying anionic mono- and dihydrates have a water molecule which is involved in noncyclic hydrogen bonding via the O4 atom of the uracil unit. Both the vertical detachment energy (VDE) and adiabatic electron affinity (AEA) of the AU base pair are predicted to increase upon hydration. While the VDE and AEA of the unhydrated AU pair are 0.96 and 0.40 eV, respectively, the corresponding predictions for the lowest-lying anionic dihydrates are 1.36 and 0.75 eV, respectively. Because uracil has a greater electron affinity than adenine, an excess electron attached to the AU base pair occupies the pi* orbital of the uracil moiety. When the uracil moiety participates in hydrogen bonding as a hydrogen bond acceptor (e.g., the N(6)-H(6a)...O(4) hydrogen bond between the adenine and uracil bases and the O(w)-H(w)...N and O(w)-H(w)...O hydrogen bonds between the AU pair and the water molecules), the transfer of the negative charge density from the uracil moiety to either the adenine or water molecules efficiently stabilizes the system. In addition, anionic structures which have C-H...O(w) contacts are energetically more favorable than those with N-H...O(w) hydrogen bonds, because the C-H...O(w) contacts do not allow the unfavorable electron density donation from the water to the uracil moiety. This delocalization effect makes the energetic ordering for the anionic hydrates very different from that for the corresponding neutrals.  相似文献

The coordination or ion pairing of the hydrogen-bonded anions H(CF3CO2)2- and H(CH3SO3)2- to NEt4+, Li+, Cu+, and/or Cu2+ was investigated. The structure of [Cu2(H(CH3SO3)2)4]n consists of centrosymmetric dimeric moieties that contain two homoconjugated (CH3SO2O-H...OSO2CH3)- anions per Cu2+ ion, forming typical Jahn-Teller tetragonally elongated CuO6 coordination spheres. The oxygen atoms involved in the nearly linear O-H...O hydrogen bonds (O...O approximately 2.62 A) are not coordinated to the Cu2+ ions. The structure of Cu2(CO)2(H(CF3-CO2)2)2 consists of pseudo-C2-symmetric dimers that contain one homoconjugated (CF3COO-H...OCOCF3)- anion per Cu+ ion, forming highly distorted tetrahedral Cu(CO)O3 coordination spheres. Three of the four oxygen atoms in each hydrogen-bonded H(CF3CO2)2- anion are coordinated to the Cu+ ions, including one of the oxygen atoms in each O-H...O hydrogen bond (O...O approximately 2.62 A). Infrared spectra (v(CO) values) of Cu(CO)(CF3CO2) or Cu(CO)(CH3SO3) dissolved in acetonitrile or benzene, with and without added CF3COOH or CH3SO3H, respectively, demonstrate that HA2- anions involving carboxylates or sulfonates are more weakly coordinating than the parent anions RCO2- and RSO3-. Direct current conductivities of THF solutions of Li(CF3CO2) containing varying concentrations of added CF3COOH further demonstrate that Li+ and NEt4+ ion pair much more weakly with H(CF3CO2)2- than with CF3CO2-.  相似文献

We report vertical detachment energy (VDE) and IR spectra of Br2.-.(H2O)n clusters (n=1-8) based on first principles electronic structure calculations. Cluster structures and IR spectra are calculated at Becke's half-and-half hybrid exchange-correlation functional (BHHLYP) with a triple split valence basis function, 6-311++G(d,p). VDE for the hydrated clusters is calculated based on second order Moller-Plesset perturbation (MP2) theory with the same set of basis function. On full geometry optimization, it is observed that conformers having interwater hydrogen bonding among solvent water molecules are more stable than the structures having double or single hydrogen bonded structures between the anionic solute, Br2.-, and solvent water molecules. Moreover, a conformer having cyclic interwater hydrogen bonded network is predicted to be more stable for each size hydrated cluster. It is also noticed that up to four solvent H2O units can reside around the solute in a cyclic interwater hydrogen bonded network. The excess electron in these hydrated clusters is localized over the solute atoms. Weighted average VDE is calculated for each size (n) cluster based on statistical population of the conformers at 150 K. A linear relationship is obtained for VDE versus (n+3)(-1/3) and bulk VDE of Br2.- aqueous solution is calculated as 10.01 eV at MP2 level of theory. BHHLYP density functional is seen to make a systematic overestimation in VDE values by approximately 0.5 eV compared to MP2 data in all the hydrated clusters. It is observed that hydration increases VDE of bromine dimer anion system by approximately 6.4 eV. Calculated IR spectra show that the formation of Br2.--water clusters induces large shifts from the normal O-H stretching bands of isolated water keeping bending modes rather insensitive. Hydrated clusters, Br2.-.(H2O)n, show characteristic sharp features of O-H stretching bands of water in the small size clusters.  相似文献

[Ag(UO(2))(3) (OAc)(9)][Zn(H(2)O)(4)(CH(3)CH(2)OH)(2)] (, OAc = CH(3)COO(-)) crystallized from an ethanol solution and its structure was determined by IR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, (1)H NMR, (13)C NMR and X-ray crystallography; it is composed of [Zn(H(2)O)(4)(CH(3)CH(2)OH)(2)](2+) cations and [Ag(UO(2))(3)(OAc)(9)](2-) anions in which triuranyl [(UO(2))(OAc)(3)](3) clusters are linked by the Ag ion.  相似文献

We investigated the reactions between cobalt-oxides and water molecules using photoelectron spectroscopy and density functional calculations. It has been confirmed by both experimental observation and theoretical calculations that dihydroxide anions, Co(m)(OH)(2)(-) (m = 1-3), were formed when Co(m)O(-) clusters interact with the first water molecule. Addition of more water molecules produced solvated dihydroxide anions, Co(m)(OH)(2)(H(2)O)(n)(-) (m = 1-3). Hydrated dihydroxide anions, Co(m)(OH)(2)(H(2)O)(n)(-), are more stable than their corresponding hydrated metal-oxide anions, Co(m)O(H(2)O)(n+1)(-).  相似文献

Photoelectron spectra of singly charged dicarboxylate anions HO(2)C(CH(2))(n)CO(2)(-) (n = 1-10) are obtained at two different temperatures (300 and 70 K) at 193 nm. The electron binding energies of these species are observed to be much higher than the singly charged monocarboxylate anions, suggesting that the singly charged dicarboxylate anions are cyclic due to strong intramolecular hydrogen bonding between the terminal -CO(2)H and -CO(2)(-) groups. The measured electron binding energies are observed to depend on the chain length, reflecting the different -CO(2)H...(-)O(2)C- hydrogen bonding strength as a result of strain in the cyclic conformation. A minimum binding energy is found at n = 5, indicating that its intramolecular hydrogen bond is the weakest. At 70 K, all spectra are blue shifted relative to the room-temperature spectra with the maximum binding energy shift occurring at n = 5. These observations suggest that the cyclic conformation of HO(2)C(CH(2))(5)CO(2)(-) (a ten-membered ring) is the most strained among the 10 anions. The present study shows that the -CO(2)H...(-)O(2)C- hydrogen bonding strength is different among the 10 anions and it is very sensitive to the strain in the cyclic conformations.  相似文献

To explore the relationships between the structures of ligands and their complexes, we have synthesized and characterized a series of metal complexes with two structurally related ligands, 9-acridinecarboxylic acid (HL(1)) and 4-quinolinecarboxylate acid (HL(2)), [Cu(2)(mu(2)-OMe)(2)(L(1))(2)(H(2)O)(0.69)](n) 1, [Cu(2)(L(1))(4)(CH(3)OH)(2)] 2, [Cu(3)(L(1))(6)(CH(3)OH)(6)].3H(2)O 3, [Mn(3)(L(1))(6)(CH(3)OH)(6)].3H(2)O 4, [Co(3)(L(1))(6)(CH(3)OH)(6)].3H(2)O 5, [Cu(L(2))(2)](n) 6, [Mn(L(2))(2)(H(2)O)](n) 7, and [Co(L(2))(2)(H(2)O)](n) 8. 1 is a three-dimensional (3D) polymer with an interpenetrating NbO type network showing one-dimensional (1D) channels, whereas 2 and 3 take bi- and trinuclear structures, respectively, because of the differences in basicity of the reaction systems in preparing the three complexes. 4 and 5 have trinuclear structures similar to that of 3. In 1-5, ligand L(1) performs different coordination modes with N,O-bridging in 1 and O,O'-bridging in 2-5, and the metal ions also show different coordination geometries: square planar in 1, square pyramidal in 2, and octahedral in 3-5. 6 has a two-dimensional structure containing (4,4) grids in which L(2) adopts the N,O-bridging mode and the Cu(II) center takes square planar geometry. 7 and 8 are isostructural complexes showing 1D chain structures, with L(2) adopting the O,O-bridging mode. In addition, the intermolecular O-H...N hydrogen bonds and pi-pi stacking interactions further extend the complexes (except 1 and 6), forming 3D structures. The magnetic properties of 2-7 have been investigated and discussed in detail.  相似文献

We present benchmark CCSD(T) calculations of the adiabatic electron affinities (AEA) and the vertical detachment energies (VDE) of the uracil molecule interacting with one to three water molecules. Calculations with rather large aug-cc-pVTZ basis set were only tractable when the space of virtual orbitals was reduced to about 60% of the full space employing the OVOS (Optimized Virtual Orbital Space) technique. Because of the microhydration, the valence-bound uracil anion is stabilized leading to gradually more positive values of both AEA and VDE with increasing number of participating water molecules. This agrees with experimental findings. Upon hydration by three water molecules, the electron affinity of uracil increased in comparison with AEA of the isolated molecule by about 250 up to 570 meV, depending on the geometry of the complex. CCSD(T) results confirm trends determined by DFT calculations of the microhydrated uracil and its anion, even if electron affinities of the free and hydrated uracil molecule are overestimated by DFT by up to 300 meV.  相似文献

The photoelectron images of Ag(-)(H(2)O)(x) (x=1,2) and AgOH(-)(H(2)O)(y) (y=0-4) are reported. The Ag(-)(H(2)O)(1,2) anionic complexes have similar characteristics to the other two coinage metal-water complexes that can be characterized as metal atomic anion solvated by water molecules with the electron mainly localized on the metal. The vibrationally well-resolved photoelectron spectrum allows the adiabatic detachment energy (ADE) and vertical detachment energy (VDE) of AgOH(-) to be determined as 1.18(2) and 1.24(2) eV, respectively. The AgOH(-) anion interacts more strongly with water molecules than the Ag(-) anion. The photoelectron spectra of Ag(-)(H(2)O)(x) and AgOH(-)(H(2)O)(y) show a gradual increase in ADE and VDE with increasing x and y due to the solvent stabilization.  相似文献

Reaction of Ni(COD)(2) (COD = cyclooctadiene) with dppm (dppm = bis(diphenylphosphino) methane) followed by addition of alkyl or aryl isocyanides yields the class of nickel(0) dimers Ni(2)(mu-CNR)(CNR)(2)(mu-dppm)(2) (R = CH(3) (1), n-C(4)H(9) (2), CH(2)C(6)H(5) (3), i-C(3)H(7) (4), C(6)H(11) (5), t-C(4)H(9) (6), p-IC(6)H(4) (7), 2,6-(CH(3))(2)C(6)H(3) (8)). The cyclic voltammograms of the dimers exhibit two sequential single electron oxidations to the +1 and +2 forms. Specular reflectance infrared spectroelectrochemical (IRSEC) measurements demonstrate reversible interconversions between the neutral Ni(0) dimers and their +1 and +2 forms. Bulk samples of the +2 forms are prepared by chemical oxidation using [FeCp(2)][PF(6)], while the +1 forms are prepared by the comproportionation of neutral and +2 forms. The neutral complexes 6 and 8 were characterized by X-ray diffraction as symmetric, locally tetrahedral binuclear Ni(0) complexes. The +2 forms of these complexes, 6(2+) and 8(2+), have asymmetric structures with one locally square planar and one locally tetrahedral metal center, evidence for a Ni(II)-Ni(0) mixed valence state. The X-ray structural characterization of 6(+) is symmetrical and qualitatively similar to that of the neutral complex 6. The +1 forms all exhibit intense near IR electronic absorptions that are assigned as intervalence charge transfer (IVCT) bands. On the basis of structural, spectroscopic, and electrochemical data, the +1 forms of the complexes, 1(+)-8(+), are assigned as Robin-Day class III, fully delocalized Ni(+0.5)-Ni(+0.5) mixed valence complexes.  相似文献

Structures of protonated alane-Lewis base donor-acceptor complexes H2X2AlNHn(CH3)(3-n)+ (X = F, Cl, and Br; n = 0-3) as well as their neutral parents were investigated. All the monocations H2X2AlNHn(CH3)(3-n)+ are Al-H protonated involving hypercoordinated alane with a three-center two-electron bond and adopt the C(s) symmetry arrangement. The energetic results show that the protonated alane-Lewis complexes are more stable than the neutral ones. They also show that this stability decreases on descending in the corresponding periodic table column from fluorine to bromine atoms. The calculated protonation energies of HX2AlNHn(CH3)(3-n) to form H2X2AlNHn(CH3)(3-n)+ were found to be highly exothermic. The possible dissociation of the cations H2X2AlNHn(CH3)(3-n)+ into X2AlNHn(CH3)(3-n)+ and molecular H2 is calculated to be endothermic.  相似文献
