The principal resonance of a single-degree-of-freedom system with two-frequency parametric and self-excitations is investigated. In particular, the case in which the parametric excitation terms with close frequencies is examined. The method of multiple scales is used to determine the equations of modulation of amplitude and phase. Qualitative analyses are employed to study the behaviour of steady state responses, limit cycle responses and 2-torus responses, including their stability and bifurcation. The effects of damping, detuning, and magnitudes of self-excitation and parametric excitations are analyzed. The theoretical analyses are verified by numerical integration results of the governing equation and the modulation equations.  相似文献

The resonant resonance response of a single-degree-of-freedom non-linear vibro-impact oscillator, with cubic non-linearity items, to combined deterministic harmonic and random excitations is investigated. The method of multiple scales is used to derive the equations of modulation of amplitude and phase. The effects of damping, detuning, and intensity of random excitations are analyzed by means of perturbation and stochastic averaging method. The theoretical analyses verified by numerical simulations show that when the intensity of the random excitation increases, the non-trivial steady-state solution may change from a limit cycle to a diffused limit cycle. Under certain conditions, impact system may have two steady-state responses. One is a non-impact response, and the other is either an impact one or a non-impact one.  相似文献

The use of non-linear energy sink to passively control vibrations of a non-linear main structure under the effect of bi-frequency harmonic excitation is addressed here. The excitation is assumed to induce both 1:1 and 1:3 resonance, and the response of the system is studied after using the Multiple Scale/Harmonic Balance Method, applied to obtain amplitude modulation equations in the slow time scale. The efficiency of the non-linear energy sink to reduce or suppress vibrations of the main structure is finally discussed.  相似文献

Non-linear feedback control provides an effective methodology for vibration mitigation in non-linear dynamic systems. However, within digital circuits, actuation mechanisms, filters, and controller processing time, intrinsic time-delays unavoidably bring an unacceptable and possibly detrimental delay period between the controller input and real-time system actuation. If not well-studied, these inherent and compounding delays may inadvertently channel energy into or out of a system at incorrect time intervals, producing instabilities and rendering controllers’ performance ineffective. In this work, we present a comprehensive investigation of the effect of time delays on the non-linear control of parametrically excited cantilever beams. More specifically, we examine three non-linear cubic delayed-feedback control methodologies: position, velocity, and acceleration delayed feedback. Utilizing the method of multiple scales, we derive the modulation equations that govern the non-linear dynamics of the beam. These equations are then utilized to investigate the effect of time delays on the stability, amplitude, and frequency–response behavior. We show that, when manifested in the feedback, even the minute amount of delays can completely alter the behavior and stability of the parametrically excited beam, leading to unexpected behavior and responses that could puzzle researchers if not well-understood and documented.  相似文献

This study analyses the nonlinear transverse vibration of an axially moving beam subject to two frequency excitation. Focus has been made on simultaneous resonant cases i.e. principal parametric resonance of first mode and combination parametric resonance of additive type involving first two modes in presence of internal resonance. By adopting the direct method of multiple scales, the governing nonlinear integro-partial differential equation for transverse motion is reduced to a set of nonlinear first order ordinary partial differential equations which are solved either by means of continuation algorithm or via direct time integration. Specifically, the frequency response plots and amplitude curves, their stability and bifurcation are obtained using continuation algorithm. Numerical results reveal the rich and interesting nonlinear phenomena that have not been presented in the existent literature on the nonlinear dynamics of axially moving systems.  相似文献

A set of nonlinear differential equations is established by using Kane‘s method for the planar oscillation of flexible beams undergoing a large linear motion. In the case of a simply supported slender beam under certain average acceleration of base, the second natural frequency of the beam may approximate the tripled first one so that the condition of 3 : 1 internal resonance of the beam holds true. The method of multiple scales is used to solve directly the nonlinear differential equations and to derive a set of nonlinear modulation equations for the principal parametric resonance of the first mode combined with 3 : 1 internal resonance between the first two modes. Then, the modulation equations are numerically solved to obtain the steady-state response and the stability condition of the beam. The abundant nonlinear dynamic behaviors, such as various types of local bifurcations and chaos that do not appear for linear models, can be observed in the case studies. For a Hopf bifurcation, the 4-dimensional modulation equations are reduced onto the central manifold and the type of Hopf bifurcation is determined. As usual, a limit cycle may undergo a series of period-doubling bifurcations and become a chaotic oscillation at last.  相似文献

Non-linear free and forced vibrations of doubly curved isotropic shallow shells are investigated via multi-modal Galerkin discretization and the method of multiple scales. Donnell’s non-linear shallow shell theory is used and it is assumed that the shell is simply supported with movable edges. By deriving two different forms of the stress function, the equations of motion are reduced to a system of infinite non-linear ordinary differential equations with quadratic and cubic non-linearities. A quadratic relation between the excitation and the fundamental frequency is considered and it is shown that, although in case of hardening non-linearities the results resemble those found via numerical integration or continuation softwares, in case of softening non-linearity the solution breaks down as the amplitude becomes larger than the thickness. Results reveal that, expressing the relation between the excitation and fundamental frequency in this form, which was considered by many researchers as a useful tool in analyzing strong non-linear oscillators, yields in spurious results when the non-linearity becomes of softening type.  相似文献

Based on the Coriolis acceleration and the Lagrangian strain formula, a gen- eralized equation for the transverse vibration system of convection belts is derived using Newton's second law. The method of multiple scales is directly applied to the govern- ing equations, and an approximate solution of the primary parameter resonance of the system is obtained. The detuning parameter, cross-section area, elastic and viscoelastic parameters, and axial moving speed have a significant influences on the amplitudes of steady-state response and their existence boundaries. Some new dynamical phenomena are revealed.  相似文献

The non-linear integro-differential equations of motion for a slender cantilever beam subject to axial narrow-band random excitation are investigated. The method of multiple scales is used to determine a uniform first-order expansion of the solution of equations. According to solvability conditions, the non-linear modulation equations for the principal parametric resonance are obtained. Firstly, The largest Lyapunov exponent which determines the almost sure stability of the trivial solution is quantificationally resolved, in which, the modified Bessel function of the first kind is introduced. Results show that the increase of the bandwidth facilitates the almost sure stability of the trivial response and stabilizes the system for a lower acceleration oscillating amplitude but intensifies the instability of the trivial response for a higher one. Secondly, the first and second order non-trivial steady state response of the system is obtained by perturbation method and the corresponding amplitude–frequency curves are calculated when the bandwidth is very small. Results show that the effective non-linearity of whether the amplitude expectation of the first order steady state response or the amplitude expectation of the second order steady state response is of the hardening type for the first mode, whereas for the second mode the effective non-linearity of whether the amplitude expectation of the first order steady state response or the amplitude expectation of the second order steady state response is of the softening type. Finally, the stochastic jump and bifurcation is investigated for the first and second modal parametric principal resonance. The basic jump phenomena indicate that, under the conditions of system parameters with a smaller bandwidth, the most probable motion is around the non-trivial branch of the amplitude response curve, whereas with a higher bandwidth, the most probable motion is around the trivial one of the amplitude response curve. However, the stochastic jump is sometimes more sensitive to the change of the bandwidth, in other words, a small change of bandwidth may induce a series of stochastic jump and bifurcation.  相似文献

This paper investigates the transverse 3:1 internal resonance of an axially transporting nonlinear viscoelastic Euler-Bernoulli beam with a two-frequency parametric excitation caused by a speed perturbation. The Kelvin-Voigt model is introduced to describe the viscoelastic characteristics of the axially transporting beam. The governing equation and the associated boundary conditions are obtained by Newton’s second law. The method of multiple scales is utilized to obtain the steady-state responses. The Routh-Hurwitz criterion is used to determine the stabilities and bifurcations of the steady-state responses. The effects of the material viscoelastic coefficient on the dynamics of the transporting beam are studied in detail by a series of numerical demonstrations. Interesting phenomena of the steady-state responses are revealed in the 3:1 internal resonance and two-frequency parametric excitation. The approximate analytical method is validated via a differential quadrature method.  相似文献

This contribution deals with the quenching of self-excited vibrations by means of parametric excitation due to periodic variation of spring stiffness. A three-mass chain system is investigated in detail. It is shown that the self-excitation can be fully or partly suppressed in a particular frequency interval.  相似文献

To investigate the principal resonance in transverse nonlinear parametric vibration of an axially accelerating viscoelastic string, the method of multiple scales is applied directly to the nonlinear partial differential equation that governs the transverse vibration of the string. To derive the governing equation, Newton‘s second law, Lagrangean strain, and Kelvin‘s model are respectively used to account the dynamical relation, geometric nonlinearity and the viscoelasticity of the string material. Based on the solvability condition of eliminating the secular terms, closed form solutions are obtained for the amplitude and the existence conditions of nontrivial steady-state response of the principal parametric resonance. The Lyapunov linearized stability theory is employed to analyze the stability of the trivial and nontrivial solutions in the principal parametric resonance. Some numerical examples are presented to show the effects of the mean transport speed, the amplitude and the frequency of speed variation.  相似文献

In this paper, the nonlinear planar vibration of a pipe conveying pulsatile fluid subjected to principal parametric resonance in the presence of internal resonance is investigated. The pipe is hinged to two immovable supports at both ends and conveys fluid at a velocity with a harmonically varying component over a constant mean velocity. The geometric cubic nonlinearity in the equation of motion is due to stretching effect of the pipe. The natural frequency of the second mode is approximately three times the natural frequency of the first mode for a range of mean flow velocity, resulting in a three-to-one internal resonance. The analysis is done using the method of multiple scales (MMS) by directly attacking the governing nonlinear integral-partial-differential equations and the associated boundary conditions. The resulting set of first-order ordinary differential equations governing the modulation of amplitude and phase is analyzed numerically for principal parametric resonance of first mode. Stability, bifurcation, and response behavior of the pipe are investigated. The results show new zones of instability due to the presence of internal resonance. A wide array of dynamical behavior is observed, illustrating the influence of internal resonance.  相似文献

This paper examines the validity of non-linear vibration analyses of continuous systems with quadratic and cubic non-linearities. As an example, we treat a hinged-hinged Euler-Bernoulli beam resting on a non-linear elastic foundation with distributed quadratic and cubic non-linearities, and investigate the primary (Ωωn) and subharmonic (Ω≈2ωn) resonances, in which Ω and ωn are the driving and natural frequencies, respectively. The steady-state responses are found by using two different approaches. In the first approach, the method of multiple scales is applied directly to the governing equation that is a non-linear partial differential equation. In the second approach, we discretize the governing equation by using Galerkin's procedure, and then apply the shooting method to the obtained ordinary differential equations. In order to check the validity of the solutions obtained by the two approaches, they are compared with the solutions obtained numerically by the finite difference method.  相似文献

A semi-analytical procedure for obtaining stability conditions for strongly non-linear single degree of freedom system (SDOF) subjected to random excitations is presented using stochastic averaging technique. The method is useful for finding stability conditions for systems having highly irregular non-linear functions which cannot be integrated in closed form to yield analytical expressions for averaged drift and diffusion coefficients. In spite of numerical methods available for finding stability of SDOF system by determining Lyapunov exponent, the proposed technique may have to be adopted (i) when the excitation is non-white; and (ii) when numerical integration fails due to convergence problem. The method is developed in such a way that it lends itself to a numerical computational scheme using FFT for obtaining numerical values of drift and diffusion coefficients of Its differential equation and the corresponding FPK equation for the system. These values of averaged drift and diffusion coefficients are then fit into polynomial form using curve fitting technique so that polynomials can be used for stability analysis. Two example problems are solved as illustrations. The first one is the Van der Pol oscillator having non-linearities which can be treated purely analytically. The example is considered for the validation of the proposed method. The second one involves non-linearities in the form of signum function for which purely analytical solution is not possible. The results of the study show that the proposed method is useful and efficient for performing stability analysis of dynamic systems having any type of non-linearities.  相似文献

The non-linear large deflection-small strain analysis and post-buckling behavior of an out-of-plumb Timoshenko beam-column of symmetrical cross section subjected to end loads (forces and moments) with non-linear bending connections at both ends, and its top end partially restrained against transverse and longitudinal translations are developed in a classical manner. A set of non-linear equations based on the “modified shear equation” that includes the effects of (1) shear deformation and the shear component of the applied axial forces; and (2) shortening of the beam-column due to both axial forces and “bowing” are presented. The proposed method and corresponding equations can be used in the large deflection-small strain analysis of Timoshenko beam-columns with non-linear bending connections, as well as lateral and longitudinal non-linear restraints at the top end. This paper is an extension of previous work presented by the senior author on the large deflection and post-buckling behavior of Timoshenko beam-columns with linear elastic semi-rigid connections and linear elastic lateral bracing. Three comprehensive examples are included that show the effectiveness of the proposed method and corresponding equations. Results obtained in the three examples are verified against analytical solutions available in the technical literature and against results from models using the FEM program ABAQUS.  相似文献

The non-linear normal modes (NNMs) and their bifurcation of a complex two DOF system are investigated systematically in this paper. The coupling and ground springs have both quadratic and cubic non-linearity simultaneously. The cases of ω1:ω2=1:1, 1:2 and 1:3 are discussed, respectively, as well as the case of no internal resonance. Approximate solutions for NNMs are computed by applying the method of multiple scales, which ensures that NNM solutions can asymtote to linear normal modes as the non-linearity disappears. According to the procedure, NNMs can be classified into coupled and uncoupled modes. It is found that coupled NNMs exist for systems with any kind of internal resonance, but uncoupled modes may appear or not appear, depending on the type of internal resonance. For systems with 1:1 internal resonance, uncoupled NNMs exist only when coefficients of cubic non-linear terms describing the ground springs are identical. For systems with 1:2 or 1:3 internal resonance, in additional to one uncoupled NNM, there exists one more uncoupled NNM when the coefficients of quadratic or cubic non-linear terms describing the ground springs are identical. The results for the case of internal resonance are consistent with ones for no internal resonance. For the case of 1:2 internal resonance, the bifurcation of the coupled NNM is not only affected by cubic but also by quadratic non-linearity besides detuning parameter although for the cases of 1:1 and 1:3 internal resonance, only cubic non-linearity operate. As a check of the analytical results, direct numerical integrations of the equations of motion are carried out.  相似文献

The stability of a rotor system presenting a transverse breathing crack is studied by considering the effects of crack depth, crack location and the shaft's rotational speed. The harmonic balance method, in combination with a path-following continuation procedure, is used to calculate the periodic response of a non-linear model of a cracked rotor system. The stability of the rotor's periodic movements is studied in the frequency domain by introducing the effects of a perturbation on the periodic solution for the cracked rotor system. It is shown that the areas of instability increase considerably when the crack deepens, and that the crack's position and depth are the main factors affecting not only the non-linear behaviour of the rotor system but also the different zones of dynamic instability in the periodic solution for the cracked rotor. The effects of some other system parameters (including the disk position and the stiffness of the supports) on the dynamic stability of the non-linear periodic response of the cracked rotor system are also investigated.  相似文献
