The problem of free shape consists in finding the form that an elastic body must have in a natural state in order that it shall assume a given form in an equilibrium configuration under the action of assigned loads. The problem, that is of interest in itself, arises in some practical applications and can constitute a preliminary step in the study of some mechanical properties of classes of equilibrium configurations that are not natural states. This paper examines the problem of free shape for inextensible elastic rods which in equilibrium are subject only to the action of forces and couples applied to the ends, and whose deformations can be described by the theory of finite displacements of thin rods due to Kirchhoff. After the general equations governing the problem have been deduced, they are employed to give a classification of the free shapes of rods that in equilibrium are circular rings.  相似文献

A nonuniform temperature distribution, the presence of surface-active substances and impurities, and also other factors lead to a change in the wetting angle along a plane. A study is made of the influence of a small perturbation of the equilibrium contact angle on the shape of the free surface of the liquid. Two cases are considered: a surface of small slope in a gravity field and a nearly spherical shape under conditions of weightlessness. The equilibrium shapes of a liquid drop on an inclined plane under conditions of hysteresis of the wetting are also obtained.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Mekhanika Zhidkosti i Gaza, No. 4, pp. 164–167, July–August, 1983.I thank I. In [1, 2], Kiselev and Rapoport investigated the flow of a jet over an elastic plate and shell. In the present paper, the problem of two-sided flow past an elastic shell is investigated in the exact nonlinear formulation. At a sufficiently high rigidity and small curvature of the shell in undeformed state it is shown that the problem has a unique solution, and a method is proposed for finding it. Some results of calculations are given.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Mekhanika Zhidkosti i Gaza, No. 5, pp. 139–143, September–October, 1981.  相似文献

Sufficient conditions are given on the coordinate systems which enable reduced equilibrium equations to be derived for perfectly elastic materials involving deformations which depend in an essential way only on two of the three coordinates. Reduced equilibrium equations given previously for plane and axially symmetric deformations are special cases of the equations given here. These equations considerably reduce the calculations involved in investigating possible solutions of finite elasticity, either exact semi-inverse solutions or approximate perturbation solutions. Moreover a formula for the pressure function appearing in the reduced equilibrium equations is given which relates to the corresponding pressure function associated with the inverse deformation. This formula is similar to one given previously for fully three dimensional deformations.  相似文献

We describe an analytic method for the computation of equilibrium shapes for two-dimensional vesicles characterized by a Helfrich elastic energy. We derive boundary value problems and solve them analytically in terms of elliptic functions and elliptic integrals. We derive solutions by prescribing length and area, or displacements and angle boundary conditions. The solutions are compared to solutions obtained by a boundary integral equation-based numerical scheme. Our method enables the identification of different configurations of deformable vesicles and accurate calculation of their shape, bending moments, tension, and the pressure jump across the vesicle membrane. Furthermore, we perform numerical experiments that indicate that all these configurations are stable minima.  相似文献

The dispersion of antisymmetric waves in a fluid-saturated porous elastic layer with free surfaces is studied. Attenuation effects are ignored. Cases with open-pore and closed-pore surface boundary conditions are considered. There are finite numbers of propagating waves and infinite numbers of waves with complex and imaginary wave numbers in the porous elastic layer. The dispersion is a function of the parameters of the porous elastic layer and of the type of wave symmetry. Institute of Hydromechanics, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Kiev. The stress state of an elastic orthotropic medium with an arbitrarily oriented triaxial ellipsoidal inclusion is analyzed. A solution is obtained using the triple Fourier transform and the Fourier-transformed Green’s function for an infinite anisotropic medium. The high efficiency of the approach is demonstrated by solving the problem for a transversely isotropic material with a spheroidal cavity for which the exact solution is known. A numerical analysis is conducted to study the stress distribution over the surface of the inclusion with different orientations in the orthotropic space. It is revealed that in some cases the orientation of the inclusion has a strong effect on the stress concentration __________ Translated from Prikladnaya Mekhanika, Vol. 43, No. 4, pp. 55–61, April 2007.  相似文献

In this paper, a two-dimensional model for linear elastic thick shells is deduced from the three-dimensional problem of a shell thickness 2ε, ε > 0. From different scalings on the tangent and normal components of the displacement uε as widely used in recent works, the limit displacement appears to be Kirchhoff–Love displacement of a different type. It contains additional terms to those found in the Reissner–Mindlin model and satisfies more general equations containing the classical terms found in the literature and some new terms related to the third fundamental form. Such terms could not be well handled in the usual framework. Shear stresses across the thickness are also computed. This model appears to be appropriate to handle stiffened shells which, in fact, cannot be considered uniformly as shallow shells. As a by-product it also lays the mathematical background to justify the Reissner–Mindlin model for plates and will probably contribute to a better understanding of the locking phenomenon encountered in computational mechanics.  相似文献
