Dynamics of a simple two degrees of freedom (d.o.f.) mechanical system is considered, to illustrate the phenomena of modal interaction. The system has a natural symmetry of shape and is subjected to symmetric loading. Two stable equilibrium configurations are separated by an unstable one, so that the model system can perform cross-well oscillations. Nonlinear statics and dynamics are considered, with the emphasis on detecting conditions for instability of symmetric configurations and analysis of bi-modal non-symmetric motions. Nonlinear local dynamics is analyzed by multiple scales method. Direct numerical integration of original equations of motions is carried out to validate analysis of modulation equations. In global dynamics (analysis of cross-well oscillations) Lyapunov exponents are used to estimate qualitatively a type of motion exhibited by the mechanical system. Modal interactions are demonstrated both in the local dynamics and for snap-through oscillations, including chaotic motions. This mechanical system may be looked upon as a lumped parameters model of continuous elastic structures (spherical segments, cylindrical panels, buckled plates, etc.). Analyses performed in the paper qualitatively describe complicated phenomena in local and global dynamics of original structures.  相似文献

Dynamics of a class of strongly nonlinear single degree of freedom oscillators is investigated. Their common characteristic is that they possess piecewise linear damping properties, which can be expressed in a general asymmetric form. More specifically, the damping coefficient and a constant parameter appearing in the equation of motion are functions of the velocity direction. This class of oscillators is quite general and includes other important categories of mechanical systems as special cases, like systems with Coulomb friction. First, an analysis is presented for locating directly exact periodic responses of these oscillators to harmonic excitation. Due to the presence of dry friction, these responses may involve intervals where the oscillator is stuck temporarily. Then, an appropriate stability analysis is also presented together with some quite general bifurcation results. In the second part of the work, this analysis is applied to several example systems with piecewise linear damping, in order to reveal the most important aspects of their dynamics. Initially, systems with symmetric characteristics are examined, for which the periodic response is found to be symmetric or asymmetric. Then, dynamical systems with asymmetric damping characteristics are also examined. In all cases, emphasis is placed on investigating the low forcing frequency ranges, where interesting dynamics is noticed. The analytical predictions are complemented with results obtained by proper integration of the equation of motion, which among other responses reveal the existence of quasiperiodic, chaotic and unbounded motions.  相似文献

The nonlinear forced vibrations of a cantilevered pipe conveying fluid under base excitations are explored by means of the full nonlinear equation of motion, and the fourthorder Runge-Kutta integration algorithm is used as a numerical tool to solve the discretized equations. The self-excited vibration is briefly discussed first, focusing on the effect of flow velocity on the stability and post-flutter dynamical behavior of the pipe system with parameters close to those in previous experiments. Then, the nonlinear forced vibrations are examined using several concrete examples by means of frequency response diagrams and phase-plane plots. It shows that, at low flow velocity, the resonant amplitude near the first-mode natural frequency is larger than its counterpart near the second-mode natural frequency. The second-mode frequency response curve clearly displays a softening-type behavior with hysteresis phenomenon, while the first-mode frequency response curve almost maintains its neutrality. At moderate flow velocity,interestingly, the first-mode resonance response diminishes and the hysteresis phenomenon of the second-mode response disappears. At high flow velocity beyond the flutter threshold, the frequency response curve would exhibit a quenching-like behavior. When the excitation frequency is increased through the quenching point, the response of the pipe may shift from quasiperiodic to periodic. The results obtained in the present, work highlight the dramatic influence of internal fluid flow on the nonlinear forced vibrations of slender pipes.  相似文献

The nonlinear interaction of the first two in-plane modes of a suspended cable with a moving fluid along the plane of the cable is studied. The governing equations of motion for two-mode interaction are derived on the basis of a general continuum model. The interaction causes the modal differential equations of the cable to be non-self-adjoint. As the flow speed increases above a certain critical value, the cable experiences oscillatory motion similar to the flutter of aeroelastic structures. A co-ordinate transformation in terms of the transverse and stretching motions of the cable is introduced to reduce the two nonlinearly coupled differential equations into a linear ordinary differential equation governing the stretching motion, and a strongly nonlinear differential equation for the transverse motion. For small values of the gravity-to-stiffness ratio the dynamics of the cable is examined using a two-time-scale approach. Numerical integration of the modal equations shows that the cable experiences stretching oscillations only when the flow speed exceeds a certain level. Above this level both stretching and transverse motions take place. The influences of system parameters such as gravity-to-stiffness ratio and density ratio on the response characteristics are also reported.  相似文献

Stability and nonlinear dynamics of two articulated pipes conveying fluid with a high-frequency pulsating component is investigated. The non-autonomous model equations are converted into autonomous equations by approximating the fast excitation terms with slowly varying terms. The downward hanging pipe position will lose stability if the mean flow speed exceeds a certain critical value. Adding a pulsating component to the fluid flow is shown to stabilize the hanging position for high values of the ratio between fluid and pipe-mass, and to marginally destabilize this position for low ratios. An approximate nonlinear solution for small-amplitude flutter oscillations is obtained using a fifth-order multiple scales perturbation method, and large-amplitude oscillations are examined by numerical integration of the autonomous model equations, using a path-following algorithm. The pulsating fluid component is shown to affect the nonlinear behavior of the system, e.g. bifurcation types can change from supercritical to subcritical, creating several coexisting stable solutions and also anti-symmetrical flutter may appear.  相似文献

This paper considers the problem of simple linear mechanical oscillators forced by complicated forcing functions, such as those induced by fluids or humans. Such problems arise in civil engineering in the design of bridges, grandstands and towers. The paper questions whether low dimensional models have much to contribute to the understanding of such problems, given the complicated possibilities of high-dimensional forcing.  相似文献

An “incompressible fluid” model in gas dynamics is developed in the linear approximation. Using the dissipative relaxation time as a characteristic scale, we arrive at another form of the dimensionless Boltzmann equation. In the limiting case of small Knudsen numbers an approximate solution is obtained in the form of a Hilbert multiple-scale asymptotic expansion. It is revealed that for slow, weakly nonisothermal processes the asymptotic expansion for the linearized Boltzmann equation leads in a first stage to equations for the velocity, pressure and temperature that do not contain the density (quasi-incompressible approximation). The density depends on the temperature and can, if necessary, be found from the equation of state. The next-approximation equations contain the Burnett effects, the velocity calculation being reduced to the general problem of finding a vector field from a given divergence and rotation. The trivial equilibrium of a two-degree-of-freedom autonomous system may become unstable via a Hopf bifurcation of multiplicity two and give rise to oscillatory bifurcating solutions, due to presence of a time delay in the linear and nonlinear terms. The effect of external excitations on the dynamic behaviour of the corresponding non-autonomous system, after the Hopf bifurcation, is investigated based on the behaviour of solutions to the four-dimensional system of ordinary differential equations. The interaction between the Hopf bifurcating solutions and the high level excitations may induce a non-resonant or secondary resonance response, depending on the ratio of the frequency of bifurcating periodic motion to the frequency of external excitation. The first-order approximate periodic solutions for the non-resonant and super-harmonic resonance response are found to be in good agreement with those obtained by direct numerical integration of the delay differential equation. It is found that the non-resonant response may be either periodic or quasi-periodic. It is shown that the super-harmonic resonance response may exhibit periodic and quasi-periodic motions as well as a co-existence of two or three stable motions.  相似文献

为研究输运不同流体的海洋立管在海流作用下的振动规律,在大型波浪流水槽中进行涡激振动模型实验。实验分别将四种不同质量比的立管模型竖直固定于支架上,立管外部承受不同速度的流体作用,上端施加顶张力。立管模型上均匀布置六个测点,根据每个测点布置的两个应变计,分别测得来流向和横向两个方向振动响应。通过小波变换对实验数据进行去噪处理,利用振型分解法求解立管各点涡激振动位移。考察输运不同流体对立管自振频率以及涡激振动响应的影响,并利用雨流计数法对模型进行疲劳分析。实验结果表明,随质量比增加立管涡激振动频率降低;低质量比的立管更容易产生大位移。  相似文献

The dynamics of a low-viscosity fluid layer inside a rotating cylinder under transverse translational vibration relative to the rotation axis is investigated experimentally. A novel vibrational effect, the generation of intense azimuthal fluid flows with velocities comparable with the cavity rotation velocity, is revealed. 研究了两端弹性支承输流管道静态失稳和动态失稳临界流速. 根据梁模型横向弯曲振动模态函数,由两端弹性支承的边界条件得到了其模态函数的一般表达式. 根据特征方程具体分析了弹性支承刚度、质量比、流体压力和管截面轴向力等主要参数对失稳临界流速的影响. 数值计算结果表明,管道在弹性支承下的动力稳定性比较复杂,在较小的弹性支承刚度和较小的参数范围内,管道主要表现为动态颤振失稳;在较大的弹性支承刚度和较大的参数作用下,管道的失稳形式主要表现为静态失稳;并且失稳临界流速随流体压力和管截面轴向压力的增加而下降,随管截面轴向拉力的增加而上升.  相似文献

Investigations of the structural stability of the general equilibrium model show that within a nonlinear framework, the differential equation governing price adjustment requires two conditions: (a) The number of agents must be greater than or equal to the number of commodities; and (b) severe restrictions on the nature of preferences must be placed. These restrictions are the same as the restrictions on preferences that are required by Chipman and Moore (1980) in order to obtain an exact and an invariant measure of consumer surplus, which is the measure and standard of value in neoclassical economics. When the Chipman-Moore conditions are examined, it is clear that the required restrictions on preferences can also be understood as requiring the constancy of the marginal utility of money, either with respect to all prices (homothetic preferences), or with respect to income and all prices except the numeraire commodity (parallel preferences). The constancy of the marginal utility between the rich and the poor implies an unintended interpersonal comparison of utility. This makes the theory of value rather special, and has implications for much applied work such as benefit-cost analysis or other social decision-making, which requires a general theory of value. It is the utilitarian formulation of welfare, which by definition means that only utility information is taken into account, that leads to the restrictive theory of value. Consequently, avoiding utilitarianism requires an approach to social choice theory that takes other information about well-being into account in social decision-making.  相似文献

A single-mass two-degrees-of-freedom system is considered, witha radially oriented nonlinear restoring force. The latter is smooth andbecomes infinite at a certain value of a radial displacement. Stabilityanalysis is made for planar oscillation, or motion along a givendirection. As long as this motion is periodic, the nonlinearity in therestoring force provides a periodic parametric excitation in thetransverse direction. The linearized stability analysis is reduced tostudy of the Mathieu equation for the (infinitesimal) motions in thetransverse direction. For the case of free oscillations in the givendirection an exact solution is obtained, since a specific analyticalform is used for the (strongly nonlinear) restoring force, which permitsexplicit integration of the equation of motion. Stability of the planarmotion in this case is shown to be very sensitive to even slightdeviations from polar symmetry in the restoring force (as well as to theamplitude of oscillations in the given direction). Numerical integrationof the original equations of motion shows the resulting motion to be awhirling type indeed in case of the transversal instability. For thecase of a sinusoidal forcing in the given direction solution for the(periodic) response is obtained by Krylov–Bogoliubov averaging. Thisresults in the transmitted Ince–Strutt chart – namely, stabilitychart for transverse direction on the amplitude-frequency plane of theexcitation in the original direction.  相似文献
