Structural properties of human scleral tissues are investigated using polarization-dependent terahertz time-domain spectroscopy. Cross-linked tissue shows polarization-independent transmission properties, whereas normal tissue is polarization-dependent. This results from the different structural arrangements of the collagen fibrils that compose the human scleral tissues. In cross-linked tissue, collagen fibrils structurally form interlocking arrangements, unlike the regular parallel arrangement found in normal tissue. Our results demonstrate that terahertz spectroscopy is a powerful tool for investigating the structural characteristics of biological tissues and systems.  相似文献

We study experimentally the absorption and refraction spectra for a number of amino acids, proteins and nucleic acids in the frequency range 0.1–3.5 THz. The characteristic absorption lines are revealed. The spectroscopy of water solutions of proteins and nucleic acids is carried out under conditions of total internal refraction. This method can be used for studies of the functional properties of biomolecules and the dynamics of their interaction.  相似文献

This work, intended for advanced undergraduate students, explains the basic concepts and an actual scientific use of Terahertz Raman spectroscopy, displaying some of the benefits of this versatile technique for structural analysis of molecules building up materials since this technique has been increasingly used for molecular characterization in chemistry. A good didactic example of the experimentally applied temperature dependence of molecular vibrations according to the Boltzmann distribution is the ratio of anti-Stokes to Stokes Raman peak intensity used to calculate the temperature of a nylon 6,6 sample. The comparison of the temperature of nylon 6,6 calculated from the experimentally determined anti-Stokes to Stokes peak intensity ratio in the Terahertz region with the temperature set with the help of a heating-freezing stage is discussed. The limitations of Terahertz Raman spectroscopy are also part of this fundamental discussion.  相似文献

The electrodynamic response of spin glasses (in the form of thin AuFe films) in the terahertz frequency range has been studied using backward-wave oscillator (BWO) spectroscopy (10–40 cm?1) and optical ellipsometry (5000–33000 cm?1) techniques at temperatures from 5 to 295 K. The room-temperature dynamic conductivity spectra of AuFe films are typical of metals and can be described within the framework of the Drude theory of conduction by free charge carriers. Changes in the microscopic parameters of charge carriers in AuFe films with increasing iron content, which are related to additional scattering of carriers on the impurity magnetic moments, have been studied on the quantitative level, including the carrier relaxation frequency and characteristic time, plasma frequency, and conductivity. It is established that the spin-glass phase at a temperature of ~5 K exhibits dispersion of the conductivity in the frequency range 10–40 cm?1, which can be related to the appearance of a mobility gap in the subsystem of free electrons involved in the RKKY interaction between magnetic centers (Fe atoms).  相似文献

Terahertz (THz) imaging which is a new technology for material classification and nondestructive detection has been extensively investigated in the past decade. The time-domain waveform acquired at each point of the object by using the THz time-domain spectroscopy contains much information about the object. Processing this waveform will present the characters of the object. Several methods are adopted to generate the image of the explosive samples and results are compared and discussed. Experiment results indicate that this new imaging technology can be used for explosive detection.  相似文献

Velocity modulation spectroscopy has been investigated in the terahertz region, employing pure rotational transitions of ArH+ and rotation-tunneling transitions of H3O+ to study the competition between pressure broadening and Doppler broadening on the lineshapes, neutral suppression, and modulation efficiency. Velocity modulation is demonstrated to be effective to frequencies as low as 60 cm−1, yielding S/N values for ArH+ (770/1) that surpass published terahertz FM results by an order of magnitude.  相似文献

Facts are presented evidencing a strong electron-phonon interaction in doped BSCCO superconductors. A pronounced fine structure in dI/dV characteristics of Josephson junctions has been observed which is caused by interaction of AC Josephson current with Raman-active optical phonon modes. “Quantization” of the “gap” voltage for natural nanosteps on the cryogenically cleaved surfaces of BSCCO proves the existence of the intrinsic Josephson effect. A sharp extra structure in the current-voltage characteristics of nanosteps is attributed to the presence of the extended van Hove singularity.  相似文献

The energy spectra of quantum-well narrow-bandgap Hg1 ? y Cd y Te/Cd x Hg1 ? x Te heterostructures have been studied. The dependences of the effective cyclotron mass on the density (in classical magnetic fields) and the transition energy (in quantizing fields) have been obtained from the cyclotron resonance measurements. These dependences confirm the near-linear dispersion law for the electrons with small mass at the band bottom (the minimum cyclotron mass measured is 0.003 m 0). The interband photoconductivity of the CdHgTe-based structures with the long-wavelength photoresponse edge lower than 6 meV has been demonstrated.  相似文献

以最新被斯德哥尔摩公约列入持久性有机污染物的硫丹为研究对象,采用太赫兹时域光谱技术获得了α硫丹在0.2~2THz频率范围内的吸收系数谱和折射率谱,结果显示在此频率范围内存在有一系列特征吸收峰,并且通过实验和理论计算对比发现在1.70和1.88THz处的实验吸收峰与1.68和1.91THz处的理论吸收峰有很好的吻合;经分析认为,这吻合峰是由于分子内集体振动引起的,实验中的其他峰值可能归因子分子间弱相互作用力和混合振动。研究结果证明了THz-TDS技术进行持久性有机物检测的可行性,为THz-TDS系统在持久性有机物识别和残留物检测方面的应用提供了依据。  相似文献

Terahertz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS) is an effective nondestructive and noninvasive tool for investigating sulfur-containing pigments. Combined with Raman spectroscopy and vibrational mode analysis, it is significant for artifact identification and conservation. In this work, the terahertz absorption spectra of pararealgar (As4S4) and orpiment (As2S3) samples mixed with polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) are characterized in a range from 0.2 THz to 2.2 THz, and their distinctive peaks are observed, respectively. Meanwhile, qualitative analysis is also implemented by using Raman spectroscopy as a complementary technique. The lattice vibrations are simulated by using solid-state density functional theory (ss-DFT), illustrating different characteristic absorption peaks for specific crystalline structures and dynamic properties. This work provides a reliable database of sulfur-containing pigments for using the THz technology to actually analyze and diagnose cultural relics.  相似文献

In the last few decades, significant progress has been achieved in the development of generators and detectors of terahertz radiation (at frequencies in the range from ≈300 GHz to ≈3 THz). Different terahertz spectroscopic techniques have been widely used now in investigating semiconductors, superconductors, molecular magnets, multiferroics, metamaterials, and other promising objects. It has been demonstrated that terahertz spectroscopy offers wide but not completely realized possibilities for studying quantum phase transitions in electron-correlated systems.  相似文献

The purpose of this paper was to apply terahertz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS) combined with clustering by fast search and find of density peaks (CFSFDP) for pesticide detection. To solve similar distance problem in THz spectra data, we proposed a method PCA-CFSFDP. Principal component analysis (PCA) was used to reduce dimensions of THz spectrum data, and then used the result of PCA as the input of CFSFDP. The performance of PCA-CFSFDP was investigated, and the experimental results showed that PCA-CFSFDP approach can get a satisfactory detection result. In addition, the proposed method was compared with K-means. The comparison results demonstrated that PCA-CFSFD outperforms K-means. Therefore, THz-TDS combined with PCA-CFSFDP is a potential identification tool for pesticide detection.  相似文献

The voltage response of a thin-film normal-metal hot-electron bolometer based on a SINIS (superconductor-insulator-normal metal-insulator-superconductor) structure to the radiation of a high-temperature Josephson junction in the terahertz frequency region was measured. Bolometers were integrated with planar log-periodic and double-dipole antennas, and Josephson junctions were integrated with log-periodic antennas. Measurements showed that the Josephson junction at a temperature of 260 mK was overheated by the transport current, so that its electron temperature exceeded 3 K at a bias voltage of 1 mV. The maximum response of a bolometer with a double-dipole antenna was observed at a frequency of 300 GHz, which agreed well with the calculated value. The Josephson radiation was observed at frequencies up to 1.7 THz. The voltage response of a bolometer reached 4×108 V/W, and the total noise-equivalent power reached 1.5×10?17 W/Hz1/2.  相似文献

利用太赫兹时域光谱技术获得了DNA碱基分子胞嘧啶和胸腺嘧啶在0.1―3.5 THz的特征吸收谱,发现胞嘧啶在2.53 THz的特征吸收细节信息。采用考虑了周期性边界条件的赝势平面波密度泛函方法对胞嘧啶分子晶体进行了结构优化和晶格动力学计算,模拟重现其太赫兹特征吸收光谱,并成功辨识了胞嘧啶在0.1―3.5 THz的所有特征吸收峰。研究结果表明,这些重要的生物分子在太赫兹频段表现出鲜明的光谱特性,胞嘧啶分子3.5 THz以下的吸收特性均来源于由分子间氢键支配的外振动模式。  相似文献

We demonstrate time-domain attenuated total reflection spectroscopy in terahertz frequency region. Geometry of the reflection measurement is well optimized to obtain accurate optical constants of water or aqueous biomolecular system. We determine the dielectric constants of distilled water and sucrose solutions with this technique.
