基于光子晶体非线性Kerr效应设计了一种结构简单的任意比能量输出光分束器, 通过控制抽运光的强度来控制端口能量输出比. 该结构还可以实现控制光传输的动态开关作用, 并且具有插入损耗低、无串扰、信号光的开/关两个状态下的透射率相差非常大的特点, 因此该光开关具有很高的开关比. 关键词: 全光开关 光分束器 非线性Kerr效应 光子晶体  相似文献

In this paper, we have analyzed a nonlinear photonic crystal directional coupler by the finite difference time domain method. We have tried to increase the coupling efficiency and also reduce the coupling length in linear and nonlinear states in this device. In this coupler, refractive index of the rods of the central row is tuned by input signal power due to nonlinear Kerr effect; therefore, input signal beam can be controlled so as to be exchanged between two output ports. Physical length is chosen to be 24a so as to have the highest output power ratio and also the smallest amount of power required for nonlinear performance.  相似文献

A novel beam splitter is proposed based on a two-dimensional (2D) photonic crystal (PC) branched waveguide structure. The beam splitter structure comprises branched waveguide channels and extra dielectric columns. These branched waveguide channels are used to obtain secondary sources and the introduced extra dielectric columns are used to control the phase difference of the secondary point sources. The field distributions of the beam are investigated using the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD). It is found that the number of beams is sensitive to the distance of the waveguide channels ports and extra dielectric columns. By adjusting the positions of the waveguide channels and the parameters of the extra dielectric columns, 1-to-N beam splitters can be realized. These simple, easily fabricated and controllable structures have important potential applications in integrated optical circuits.  相似文献

We propose and analyze a novel multiway high efficiency composite beam splitter based on propagation properties of the light waves in directional coupler and Y-junction. The splitting properties of the beam splitter have been numerically simulated and analyzed using the PWE and FDTD methods. Then in order to obtain equal distribution of power, we place and adjust some additional rods in the output waveguides to optimize the devices. It was shown that a large separating angle, a high beam rate, high flexibility, has been extended to have more light output channels in the beam splitter.  相似文献

The authors design an ultra-compact all-PC-integrated polarization beam splitter which is only composed of three waveguides: one input waveguide and two output waveguides. The input waveguide can support both TM and TE modes, but one of the two output waveguides can only support TM modes while the other can only support TE modes. So an incident beam will be separated into two different polarization beams which emerge from different output waveguides. By the simulation of finite-difference time-domain method, we know that the polarization beam splitter really works the way as we predict.  相似文献

We propose a novel all-optical controllable switch using photonic crystal cavity. For doing this work, the dipole induced transparency phenomenon realized through interaction of light with multilevel nanocrystals is used. Multilevel nanocrystals are doped to photonic crystal rods. Using the proposed structure and applying the control field, the absorbing medium converts to transparent one and switching operation is obtained. Analytical relation for evaluation of the proposed device considering quantum optical effects is presented and studied by investigation of effects of parameters on switching characteristics. We show that high quality all-optical switching operation can be obtained.  相似文献

A polarization beam splitter based on a self-collimation Mach-Zehnder interferometer (SMZI) in a hole-type silicon photonic crystal was proposed and numerically demonstrated. Utilizing polarization dependence of the transmission spectra of the SMZI and polarization peak matching (PPM) method, the SMZI can work as a polarization beam splitter (PBS) by selecting appropriate path length difference in the structure. Because of its intrinsic operating principle, the PBS possesses high polarization extinction ratios (PERs). As its dimensions are only several operating wavelengths, the PBS may have practical applications in photonic integrated circuits.  相似文献

Owing to the unique optical properties high-Q photonic crystal nanobeam microcavities have been demonstrated in a variety of materials. In this paper the design of high-Q silicon-polymer hybrid photonic crystal nanobeam microcavities is investigated using the three-dimensional plane-wave expansion method and finite-difference time-domain method. We first discuss the design of high-Q nanobeam microcavities in silicon-on-insulator, after which the polymer is introduced into the air void to form the hybrid structures. Quality factor as high as 1 × 104 has been obtained for our silicon-polymer hybrid nanobeam microcavities without exhaustive parameter examination. In addition the field distribution of resonant mode can be tuned to largely overlap with polymer materials. Because of the overwhelmingly large Kerr nonlinearity of polymer over silicon, the application in all-optical switching is presented by studying the shift of the resonant frequency on the change of refractive index of polymer. The minimum switching intensity of only 0.37 GW/cm2 is extracted for our high-Q hybrid microcavities and the corresponding single pulse energy is also discussed according to the pumping methods. The total switching time is expected to be restricted by the photon lifetime in cavity due to the ultrafast response speed of polymer. Our silicon-polymer hybrid nanobeam microcavities show great promise in constructing small-sized all-optical devices or circuits with advantages of possessing low-power and ultrafast speed simultaneously.  相似文献

By employing the liquid crystal refractive index changes induced by applied electric field, a novel terahertz polarization splitter with tunable the operating frequency and bandwidths has been proposed and theoretically analyzed. It possesses an extinction ratio as high as the polarization splitters based on the two-dimensional photonic crystal waveguides. We propose a compact polarization splitter based on dual-elliptical-core photonic crystal fiber. Two elliptical cores are introduced to increase the difference of effective index between x-polarized and y-polarized mode and three elliptical modulation air holes are used to control the power transfer between the two cores. By optimizing the structure parameters, the length of the polarization splitter is distinctly shortened. Numerical results demonstrate that the compact splitter has the length of 775 μm and up to 50 dB extinction ratio at the central wavelength of 1.55 μm. The corresponding bandwidth of 32 nm could be achieved from the wavelength of 1.534–1.566 μm with the extinction ratio over 20 dB  相似文献

Modal analysis of a deep-etched low-contrast two-port beam splitter grating under Littrow mounting is presented. The guideline for the design of a subwavelength transmission fused-silica phase grating as high-efficiency grating, polarizing beam splitter (PBS), and two-port beam splitter, is summarized. As an example, a polarization-independent two-port beam splitter grating is designed at wavelength of 1064 nm. We firstly analyzed the physical essence of the grating by the simplified modal method. The guideline for the grating design and the approximate grating parameters are obtained. Then using the rigorous coupled-wave analysis (RCWA) with parameters varying around the approximate ones, optimum grating parameters can be determined. With the design guideline, the time for the rigorous calculation of the grating profile parameters can be reduced significantly.  相似文献

We theoretically investigated the design of polarizing beam splitters (PBS) of two-layer dielectric rectangular transmission gratings in Littrow mounting. The PBS grating is aimed to separate TE and TM polarized waves into two different transmitted orders, i.e. the 0th and −1st orders. The polarization-dependent diffraction process is analyzed by using a simplified modal method. The mode reflection and transmission at the interface of the two layers are illustrated. Design equations are given based on the average mode indices of the even and odd modes inside the grating region, which are verified by using rigorous coupled wave analysis. Moreover, with simulated annealing algorithm, two kinds of two-layer PBS gratings are optimized for operation over the C-band (1520-1570 nm). Compared with the single-layer transmission PBS gratings, such two-layer scheme exhibits a great flexibility of design. The PBSs of two-layer dielectric transmission gratings should be useful for practical applications.  相似文献

A soft glass dual core polarization splitter based on highly birefringent photonic crystal fiber (PCF) is proposed and the full vector finite element method (FEM) is employed to analyze the impacts of structural parameters on birefringence and the coupling length, and simulation results show that high birefringence on the order of 10−2 can be obtained at 1.55 μm, moreover, hole size, hole pitch and elliptic ratio all affect birefringence and the coupling length. Based on these results, the PCF's structure is optimized to realize a polarization splitter of 282 μm whose largest extinction ratio is around −45.42 dB at 1.55 μm. Meanwhile, the bandwidth at the extinction ratio of −10 dB is about 90 nm, and around 32 nm at −20 dB.  相似文献

大角度倾斜入射时,光学薄膜表现出强烈的偏振效应。入射光S分量和P分量的反射率和透射率曲线,以及反射或透射引起的两个分量的相位变化都不再相同,彼此有一定的偏振分离。通过对产生偏振效应内在原因的分析,采用一个在近红外波段对于45倾斜入射光的S分量和P分量等效导纳非常接近的膜系结构,结合单纯形法优化算法,设计得到一个1 500~1 600 nm范围内反射率都是50%的近红外消偏振分光膜。结果显示,在45入射时,S分量和P分量的反射率曲线偏振分离小,反射和透射引起的相位变化也控制在很小范围。  相似文献

研究及分析了光波在分束结构中的传播行为和特性,发现当增大波导邻近两侧空气孔半径时,能形成完全光子禁带范围内某一频率光波单一偏振态的传播,基于此原理提出了一种全新结构的偏振光分束器,计算与模拟结构表明,该结构可以实现TE模与TM模高效大角度分离. 器件尺寸不超过17.6 μm×9.8 μm,在集成光回路中无疑有着很大的应用潜力. 关键词: 光子晶体 偏振光分束器 时域有限差分法 平面波展开法  相似文献

In this paper, a photodetector based on InGaAs micro-ring resonator array with 5 μm radius, in telecommunication wavelength region has been investigated. Then for the first time to our knowledge, with the change of refractive index due to optical nonlinear effects (such as: Kerr effect, two photon absorption, free carrier dispersion and free carrier absorption), an all-optical switch, based on pump-probe configuration using this photodetector have been proposed. So, the suggested device, will introduce a dual functionality that is important from view point of economically purposes and in term of integration. By numerically solving the light propagation equations, with FDTD and Crank–Nicolson methods, in addition to steady state and transient response, also we have found the frequency response, in both configurations. With increasing reverse bias voltage, and optimizing the free carrier transportation from absorption region, switching frequency can be increased up to 200 GHz. Also by optimal choosing of parameters such as the number of rings and spaces between two adjacent rings and so on, the box-like spectral response of photodetector with high efficiency is achievable.  相似文献

In this paper a compact polarization beam splitter based on a deformed photonic crystal directional coupler is designed and simulated. The transverse-electric (TE) guided mode and transverse-magnetic (TM) guided mode are split due to different guiding mechanisms. The effect of the shape deformation of the air holes on the coupler is studied. It discovered that the coupling strength of the coupled waveguldes is strongly enhanced by introducing elliptical airholes, which reduce the device length to less than 18.Sttm. A finite-difference tlme-domain simulation is performed to evaluate the performance of the device, and the extinction ratios for both TE and TM polarized light are higher than 20 dB.  相似文献

Bitwise comparison and classification of binary data is an essential requirement in digital signal and image processing applications. Here in this paper a new method of a one bit all-optical binary comparison scheme is proposed. This scheme is developed by the proper use of optical nonlinear material and also polarization encoding technique. Very high speed performance can be adopted easily in this mechanism. The scheme can be used to compare any two bits such as 0 and 0, 0 and 1, 1 and 0, 1 and 1.  相似文献

An ultra-high precision thin-film polarizing beam splitter (PBS) has been designed and fabricated. Using Needle optimization technology, we design the thin-film polarizing beam splitter that is transparent for P polarization and reflective for S polarization with ultra-high precision at 64.8° angle of incidence and 632.8 ± 10 nm wavelength band. The experiments with the fabricated thin-film PBS demonstrate that both the reflectance of P polarization and transmittance of S polarization at 64.8° angle of incidence and 632.8 nm wavelength point are less than 0.02%, which is ultra-high for reported PBSs.  相似文献
