Exact results are given for the forces per unit length acting on each of a pair of parallel conducting cylinders when polarized by an external electric field perpendicular to the cylinders. Simple analytic results are obtained at small and large separations of the cylinders. The torque on the cylinders (which acts to align them with the electric field) is proportional to the difference between the longitudinal and transverse polarizabilities. The forces acting on the cylinders (which are equal and opposite) are given by the derivatives of the polarizabilities with respect to their separation. 相似文献

We study the frequency of the plasma oscillations of electron–positron pairs created by the vacuum polarization in a uniform electric field with strength E in the range 0.2Ec<E<10Ec. Following the approach adopted in Ruffini, et al. (2007) [1] we work out one second order ordinary differential equation for a variable related to the velocity from which we can recover the classical plasma oscillation equation when E→0. Thereby, we focus our attention on its evolution in time studying how this oscillation frequency approaches the plasma frequency. The time-scale needed to approach to the plasma frequency and the power spectrum of these oscillations are computed. The characteristic frequency of the power spectrum is determined uniquely from the initial value of the electric field strength. The effects of plasma degeneracy and pair annihilation are discussed. 相似文献

By solving the quantum Vlasov equation, electron positron pair production in a strong electric field with asymmetric laser pulses has been investigated. We consider three different situations of subcycle, cycle and supercycle laser pulses. It is found that in asymmetric laser pulse field, i.e.. when the pulse length of one rising or falling side is fixed while the pulse length of the other side is changed, the pair production rate and mnnber density can be significantly modified comparable to symmetric situation. For each ca,se of these three different cycle pulses, when one side pulse length is constant and the other side pulse length becomes shorter, i.e., the whole pulse is compressed, the more pairs can be produced than that in tile vice versa case, i.e., the whole pulse is elongated. In compressed pulse case there exists an optimum pulse length ratio of asylnmetric pulse lengths which makes the pair number density maximunn. Moreover, the created maximum pair number density by subcycle pulse is larger than that by cycle or/and supercycle pulse. In elongated pulse case, however, only for supercycle laser pulse the created pairs is enhanced and there exists also an optimum asymmetric pulse length ratio that maximizes the pair number density. On the other hand. surprisingly, in both cases of subcycle and cycle elongated laser pulses, the pair number density is monotonically decreasing as the asymmetry of pulse increases. 相似文献

The anisotropy effect of the electric polarization (stretching) of the deuteron in the Coulomb field, caused by the tensor character of the nuclear force, is investigated. The values of the longitudinal (with the major axis, or the spin of the deuteron, directed along the electric field), and transverse components of the deuteron electric dipole polarizability that correspond to the low-energy n-p data, are predicted to be α6 = 0.669 fm3 and α⊥ = 0.555 fm3 (the potential YYm). We report a detailed experimental study of the transverse electric, field in charge-coupled devices. Using a gate-controlled photodiode structure, the effects of doping density, oxide thickness, gate length and gate voltage on the transverse electric field are examined and compared with theoretical calculations. It is found that the existing theoretical model tends to overestimate the transverse field in samples of high doping density and large gate length, or when the gate voltage difference is large. 相似文献

The Landau bands in crossed magnetic and electric fields are studied for the case of a Weyl semimetal. The expression for the energy spectrum of such a system is obtained using an approach based on the Lorentz shift. It is shown that the electric field leads to a substantial transformation of the Landau bands. At the electric field equal to vF H/c, the collapse of the Landau levels occurs and the motion becomes completely linear. Under this condition, the wavefunction is nonzero only for the states with p z = 0. This significantly affects the phenomena related to the unusual surface states, which are characteristic of such materials. 相似文献

Solutions for the problem on the equilibrium configurations of uncharged conducting liquid jets in a transverse electric field are obtained. These solutions correspond to finite-amplitude non-axisymmetric azimuthal deformations of the surface of a round jet: the jet is stretched along the field in its cross-section. The range of electric fields is determined for which solutions of the problem exist. If the electric field strength is over some critical value, the electrostatic equations have no solution, and the jet splits. The obtained solutions are qualitatively examined for stability under small azimuthal perturbations. 相似文献
