The purpose of this paper is to identify all eight of the basic Cayley–Dickson doubling products. A Cayley–Dickson algebra \({\mathbb{A}_{N+1}}\) of dimension \({2^{N+1}}\) consists of all ordered pairs of elements of a Cayley–Dickson algebra \({\mathbb{A}_{N}}\) of dimension \({2^N}\) where the product \({(a, b)(c, d)}\) of elements of \({\mathbb{A}_{N+1}}\) is defined in terms of a pair of second degree binomials \({(f(a, b, c, d), g(a, b, c,d))}\) satisfying certain properties. The polynomial pair\({(f, g)}\) is called a ‘doubling product.’ While \({\mathbb{A}_{0}}\) may denote any ring, here it is taken to be the set \({\mathbb{R}}\) of real numbers. The binomials \({f}\) and \({g}\) should be devised such that \({\mathbb{A}_{1} = \mathbb{C}}\) the complex numbers, \({\mathbb{A}_{2} = \mathbb{H}}\) the quaternions, and \({\mathbb{A}_{3} = \mathbb{O}}\) the octonions. Historically, various researchers have used different yet equivalent doubling products.  相似文献

It is proved that for a cosine family \({\{c(t)\}_{t \in \mathbb{R}}}\) in a normed algebra with a unity e, the following assertions hold: (1) If \({\sup_{t \in \mathbb{R}}\| c(t) - e \| < 2}\), then c(t) =  e for every \({t \in \mathbb{R}}\). (2) If \({\lim sup_{t \to 0}\| c(t) - e \| < 2}\), then \({\lim_{t \to 0} c(t) = e}\). It is also shown that the two respective results, each specific for one of the assertions, are equivalent.  相似文献

We give a direct proof of the fact that the \(L^p\)-norms of global solutions of the Boussinesq system in \({\mathbb {R}}^3\) grow large as \(t\rightarrow \infty \) for \(1<p<3\) and decay to zero for \(3<p\le \infty \), providing exact estimates from below and above using a suitable decomposition of the space–time space \({\mathbb {R}}^{+}\times {\mathbb {R}}^{3}\). In particular, the kinetic energy blows up as \(\Vert u(t)\Vert _2^2\sim ct^{1/2}\) for large time. This contrasts with the case of the Navier–Stokes equations.  相似文献

Let \(\mathrm{SM}_{2n}(S^1,\mathbb {R})\) be a set of stable Morse functions of an oriented circle such that the number of singular points is \(2n\in \mathbb {N}\) and the order of singular values satisfies the particular condition. For an orthogonal projection \(\pi :\mathbb {R}^2\rightarrow \mathbb {R}\), let \({\tilde{f}}_0\) and \({\tilde{f}}_1:S^1\rightarrow \mathbb {R}^2\) be embedding lifts of f. If there is an ambient isotopy \(\tilde{\varphi }_t:\mathbb {R}^2\rightarrow \mathbb {R}^2\) \((t\in [0,1])\) such that \({\pi \circ \tilde{\varphi }}_t(y_1,y_2)=y_1\) and \(\tilde{\varphi }_1\circ {\tilde{f}}_0={\tilde{f}}_1\), we say that \({\tilde{f}}_0\) and \({\tilde{f}}_1\) are height isotopic. We define a function \(I:\mathrm{SM}_{2n}(S^1,\mathbb {R})\rightarrow \mathbb {N}\) as follows: I(f) is the number of height isotopy classes of embeddings such that each rotation number is one. In this paper, we determine the maximal value of the function I equals the n-th Baxter number and the minimal value equals \(2^{n-1}\).  相似文献

The purpose of this work is to classify, for given integers \({m,\, n\geq 1}\), the bordism class of a closed smooth \({m}\)-manifold \({X^m}\) with a free smooth involution \({\tau}\) with respect to the validity of the Borsuk–Ulam property that for every continuous map \({\phi : X^m \to \mathbb{R}^n}\) there exists a point \({x\in X^m}\) such that \({\phi (x)=\phi (\tau (x))}\). We will classify a given free \({\mathbb{Z}_2}\)-bordism class \({\alpha}\) according to the three possible cases that (a) all representatives \({(X^m, \tau)}\) of \({\alpha}\) satisfy the Borsuk–Ulam property; (b) there are representatives \({({X_{1}^{m}}, \tau_1)}\) and \({({X_{2}^{m}}, \tau_2)}\) of \({\alpha}\) such that \({({X_{1}^{m}}, \tau_1)}\) satisfies the Borsuk–Ulam property but \({({X_{2}^{m}}, \tau_2)}\) does not; (c) no representative \({(X^m, \tau)}\) of \({\alpha}\) satisfies the Borsuk–Ulam property.  相似文献

Given a C 2 semi-algebraic mapping \({F} : {\mathbb{R}^N \rightarrow \mathbb{R}^p}\), we consider its restriction to \({W \hookrightarrow \mathbb{R^{N}}}\) an embedded closed semi-algebraic manifold of dimension \({n-1 \geq p \geq 2}\) and introduce sufficient conditions for the existence of a fibration structure (generalized open book structure) induced by the projection \({\frac{F}{\Vert F \Vert}:W{\setminus} F^{-1}(0) \to S^{p-1}}\). Moreover, we show that the well known local and global Milnor fibrations, in the real and complex settings, follow as a byproduct by considering W as spheres of small and big radii, respectively. Furthermore, we consider the composition mapping of F with the canonical projection \({\pi: \mathbb{R}^{p} \to \mathbb{R}^{p-1}}\) and prove that the fibers of \({\frac{F}{\Vert F \Vert}}\) and \({\frac{\pi \circ F}{\Vert \pi \circ F \Vert}}\) are homotopy equivalent. We also show several formulae relating the Euler characteristics of the fiber of the projection \({\frac{F}{\Vert F \Vert}}\) and \({W \cap F^{-1}(0)}\). Similar formulae are proved for mappings obtained after composition of F with canonical projections.  相似文献

Let \({p \in (1,\infty)}\), \({s \in (0,1)}\) and \({\Omega \subset {\mathbb{R}^{N}}}\) a bounded open set with boundary \({\partial\Omega}\) of class C 1,1. In the first part of the article we prove an integration by parts formula for the fractional p-Laplace operator \({(-\Delta)_{p}^{s}}\) defined on \({\Omega \subset {\mathbb{R}^{N}}}\) and acting on functions that do not necessarily vanish at the boundary \({\partial\Omega}\). In the second part of the article we use the above mentioned integration by parts formula to clarify the fractional Neumann and Robin boundary conditions associated with the fractional p-Laplacian on open sets.  相似文献

Consistent reconstruction is a method for producing an estimate \(\widetilde{x} \in {\mathbb {R}}^d\) of a signal \(x\in {\mathbb {R}}^d\) if one is given a collection of \(N\) noisy linear measurements \(q_n = \langle x, \varphi _n \rangle + \epsilon _n\), \(1 \le n \le N\), that have been corrupted by i.i.d. uniform noise \(\{\epsilon _n\}_{n=1}^N\). We prove mean-squared error bounds for consistent reconstruction when the measurement vectors \(\{\varphi _n\}_{n=1}^N\subset {\mathbb {R}}^d\) are drawn independently at random from a suitable distribution on the unit-sphere \({\mathbb {S}}^{d-1}\). Our main results prove that the mean-squared error (MSE) for consistent reconstruction is of the optimal order \({\mathbb {E}}\Vert x - \widetilde{x}\Vert ^2 \le K\delta ^2/N^2\) under general conditions on the measurement vectors. We also prove refined MSE bounds when the measurement vectors are i.i.d. uniformly distributed on the unit-sphere \({\mathbb {S}}^{d-1}\) and, in particular, show that in this case, the constant \(K\) is dominated by \(d^3\), the cube of the ambient dimension. The proofs involve an analysis of random polytopes using coverage processes on the sphere.  相似文献

Let \({\varphi}\) be a Musielak–Orlicz function satisfying that, for any \({(x,\,t)\in{\mathbb R}^n \times [0, \infty)}\), \({\varphi(\cdot,\,t)}\) belongs to the Muckenhoupt weight class \({A_\infty({\mathbb R}^n)}\) with the critical weight exponent \({q(\varphi) \in [1,\,\infty)}\) and \({\varphi(x,\,\cdot)}\) is an Orlicz function with uniformly lower type \({p^{-}_{\varphi}}\) and uniformly upper type \({p^+_\varphi}\) satisfying \({q(\varphi) < p^{-}_{\varphi}\le p^{+}_{\varphi} < \infty}\). In this paper, the author obtains a sharp weighted bound involving \({A_\infty}\) constant for the Hardy–Littlewood maximal operator on the Musielak–Orlicz space \({L^{\varphi}}\). This result recovers the known sharp weighted estimate established by Hytönen et al. in [J. Funct. Anal. 263:3883–3899, 2012].  相似文献

We consider the strong field asymptotics for the occurrence of zero modes of certain Weyl–Dirac operators on \({\mathbb{R}^3}\). In particular, we are interested in those operators \({\mathcal{D}_B}\) for which the associated magnetic field \({B}\) is given by pulling back a two-form \({\beta}\) from the sphere \({\mathbb{S}^2}\) to \({\mathbb{R}^3}\) using a combination of the Hopf fibration and inverse stereographic projection. If \({\int_{\mathbb{s}^2} \beta \neq 0}\), we show that
$$\sum_{0 \leq t \leq T} {\rm dim Ker} \mathcal{D}{tB}=\frac{T^2}{8\pi^2}\,\Big| \int_{\mathbb{S}^2}\beta\Big|\,\int_{\mathbb{S}^2}|{\beta}| +o(T^2)$$
as \({T\to+\infty}\). The result relies on Erd?s and Solovej’s characterisation of the spectrum of \({\mathcal{D}_{tB}}\) in terms of a family of Dirac operators on \({\mathbb{S}^2}\), together with information about the strong field localisation of the Aharonov–Casher zero modes of the latter.

The paper is devoted to sharp weak type \((\infty ,\infty )\) estimates for \({\mathcal {H}}^{\mathbb {T}}\) and \({\mathcal {H}}^{\mathbb {R}}\), the Hilbert transforms on the circle and real line, respectively. Specifically, it is proved that
$$\begin{aligned} \left\| {\mathcal {H}}^{\mathbb {T}}f\right\| _{W({\mathbb {T}})}\le \Vert f\Vert _{L^\infty ({\mathbb {T}})} \end{aligned}$$
and
$$\begin{aligned} \left\| {\mathcal {H}}^{\mathbb {R}}f\right\| _{W({\mathbb {R}})}\le \Vert f\Vert _{L^\infty ({\mathbb {R}})}, \end{aligned}$$
where \(W({\mathbb {T}})\) and \(W({\mathbb {R}})\) stand for the weak-\(L^\infty \) spaces introduced by Bennett, DeVore and Sharpley. In both estimates, the constant \(1\) on the right is shown to be the best possible.

We introduce and study adhesive spaces. Using this concept we obtain a characterization of stable Baire maps \({f : X\to Y}\) of the class \({\alpha}\) for wide classes of topological spaces. In particular, we prove that for a topological space X and a contractible space Y a map \({f : X \to Y}\) belongs to the nth stable Baire class if and only if there exist a sequence \({(f_k)_{k=1}^\infty}\) of continuous maps \({f_k : {X \to Y}}\) and a sequence \({(F_k)_{k=1}^\infty}\) of functionally ambiguous sets of the nth class in X such that \({f|_{F_k}=f_k|_{F_k}}\) for every k. Moreover, we show that every monotone function \({f : \mathbb{R} \to \mathbb{R}}\) is of the \({\alpha}\) th stable Baire class if and only if it belongs to the first stable Baire class.  相似文献

We call the \({\delta}\)-vector of an integral convex polytope of dimension d flat if the \({\delta}\)-vector is of the form \({(1,0,\ldots,0,a,\ldots,a,0,\ldots,0)}\), where \({a \geq 1}\). In this paper, we give the complete characterization of possible flat \({\delta}\)-vectors. Moreover, for an integral convex polytope \({\mathcal{P}\subset \mathbb{R}^N}\) of dimension d, we let \({i(\mathcal{P},n)=|n\mathcal{P}\cap \mathbb{Z}^N|}\) and \({i^*(\mathcal{P},n)=|n(\mathcal{P} {\setminus}\partial \mathcal{P})\cap \mathbb{Z}^N|}\). By this characterization, we show that for any \({d \geq 1}\) and for any \({k,\ell \geq 0}\) with \({k+\ell \leq d-1}\), there exist integral convex polytopes \({\mathcal{P}}\) and \({\mathcal{Q}}\) of dimension d such that (i) For \({t=1,\ldots,k}\), we have \({i(\mathcal{P},t)=i(\mathcal{Q},t),}\) (ii) For \({t=1,\ldots,\ell}\), we have \({i^*(\mathcal{P},t)=i^*(\mathcal{Q},t)}\), and (iii) \({i(\mathcal{P},k+1) \neq i(\mathcal{Q},k+1)}\) and \({i^*(\mathcal{P},\ell+1)\neq i^*(\mathcal{Q},\ell+1)}\).  相似文献

Let \({\varphi: \mathbb{P}^N_K\to\mathbb{P}^N_K}\) be a morphism of degree d ≥ 2 defined over a field K that is algebraically closed field and complete with respect to a nonarchimedean absolute value. We prove that a modified Green function \({\hat{g}_\varphi}\) associated to \({\varphi}\) is Hölder continuous on \({\mathbb{P}^N(K)}\) and that the Fatou set \({\mathcal{F}(\varphi)}\) of \({\varphi}\) is equal to the set of points at which \({\hat{g}_\Phi}\) is locally constant. Further, \({\hat{g}_\varphi}\) vanishes precisely on the set of points P such that \({\varphi}\) has good reduction at every point in the forward orbit \({\mathcal{O}_\varphi(P)}\) of P. We also prove that the iterates of \({\varphi}\) are locally uniformly Lipschitz on \({\mathcal{F}(\varphi)}\) .  相似文献

Let \({\mathcal L}\equiv-\Delta+V\) be the Schrödinger operator in \({{\mathbb R}^n}\), where V is a nonnegative function satisfying the reverse Hölder inequality. Let ρ be an admissible function modeled on the known auxiliary function determined by V. In this paper, the authors characterize the localized Hardy spaces \(H^1_\rho({{\mathbb R}^n})\) in terms of localized Riesz transforms and establish the boundedness on the BMO-type space \({\mathop\mathrm{BMO_\rho({\mathbb R}^n)}}\) of these operators as well as the boundedness from \({\mathop\mathrm{BMO_\rho({\mathbb R}^n)}}\) to \({\mathop\mathrm{BLO_\rho({\mathbb R}^n)}}\) of their corresponding maximal operators, and as a consequence, the authors obtain the Fefferman–Stein decomposition of \({\mathop\mathrm{BMO_\rho({\mathbb R}^n)}}\) via localized Riesz transforms. When ρ is the known auxiliary function determined by V, \({\mathop\mathrm{BMO_\rho({\mathbb R}^n)}}\) is just the known space \(\mathop\mathrm{BMO}_{\mathcal L}({{\mathbb R}^n})\), and \({\mathop\mathrm{BLO_\rho({\mathbb R}^n)}}\) in this case is correspondingly denoted by \(\mathop\mathrm{BLO}_{\mathcal L}({{\mathbb R}^n})\). As applications, when n?≥?3, the authors further obtain the boundedness on \(\mathop\mathrm{BMO}_{\mathcal L}({{\mathbb R}^n})\) of Riesz transforms \(\nabla{\mathcal L}^{-1/2}\) and their adjoint operators, as well as the boundedness from \(\mathop\mathrm{BMO}_{\mathcal L}({{\mathbb R}^n})\) to \(\mathop\mathrm{BLO}_{\mathcal L}({{\mathbb R}^n})\) of their maximal operators. Also, some endpoint estimates of fractional integrals associated to \({\mathcal L}\) are presented.  相似文献

Given a smooth, symmetric and homogeneous of degree one function \(f\left( \lambda _{1},\ldots ,\lambda _{n}\right) \) satisfying \(\partial _{i}f>0\quad \forall \,i=1,\ldots , n\), and a properly embedded smooth cone \({\mathcal {C}}\) in \({\mathbb {R}}^{n+1}\), we show that under suitable conditions on f, there is at most one f self-shrinker (i.e. a hypersurface \(\Sigma \) in \({\mathbb {R}}^{n+1}\) satisfying \(f\left( \kappa _{1},\ldots ,\kappa _{n}\right) +\frac{1}{2}X\cdot N=0\), where \(\kappa _{1},\ldots ,\kappa _{n}\) are principal curvatures of \(\Sigma \)) that is asymptotic to the given cone \({\mathcal {C}}\) at infinity.  相似文献

We use the variational concept of \({\Gamma}\)-convergence to prove existence, stability and exhibit the geometric structure of four families of stationary solutions to the singularly perturbed parabolic equation \({u_t=\epsilon^2 {\rm div}(k\nabla u)+f(u,x)}\), for \({(t,x)\in \mathbb{R}^+\times\Omega}\), where \({\Omega\subset\mathbb{R}^n}\), \({n\geq 1}\), supplied with no-flux boundary condition. The novelty here lies in the fact that the roots of the bistable function f are not isolated, meaning that the graphs of its roots are allowed to have contact or intersect each other along a Lipschitz-continuous (n ? 1)-dimensional hypersurface \({\gamma \subset \Omega}\); across this hypersurface, the stable equilibria may have corners. The case of intersecting roots stems from the phenomenon known as exchange of stability which is characterized by \({f(\cdot,x)}\) having only two roots.  相似文献

Let \(\Phi _{n}(x)=e^x-\sum _{j=0}^{n-2}\frac{x^j}{j!}\) and \(\alpha _{n} =n\omega _{n-1}^{\frac{1}{n-1}}\) be the sharp constant in Moser’s inequality (where \(\omega _{n-1}\) is the area of the surface of the unit \(n\)-ball in \(\mathbb {R}^n\)), and \(dV\) be the volume element on the \(n\)-dimensional hyperbolic space \((\mathbb {H}^n, g)\) (\(n\ge {2}\)). In this paper, we establish the following sharp Moser–Trudinger type inequalities with the exact growth condition on \(\mathbb {H}^n\):
For any \(u\in {W^{1,n}(\mathbb {H}^n)}\) satisfying \(\Vert \nabla _{g}u\Vert _{n}\le {1}\), there exists a constant \(C(n)>0\) such that
$$\begin{aligned} \int _{\mathbb {H}^n}\frac{\Phi _{n}(\alpha _{n}|u|^{\frac{n}{n-1}})}{(1+|u|)^{\frac{n}{n-1}}}dV \le {C(n)\Vert u\Vert _{L^n}^{n}}. \end{aligned}$$
The power \(\frac{n}{n-1}\) and the constant \(\alpha _{n}\) are optimal in the following senses:
  1. (i)
If the power \(\frac{n}{n-1}\) in the denominator is replaced by any \(p<\frac{n}{n-1}\), then there exists a sequence of functions \(\{u_{k}\}\) such that \(\Vert \nabla _{g}u_{k}\Vert _{n}\le {1}\), but
    $$\begin{aligned} \frac{1}{\Vert u_{k}\Vert _{L^n}^{n}}\int _{\mathbb {H}^n} \frac{\Phi _{n}(\alpha _{n}(|u_{k}|)^{\frac{n}{n-1}})}{(1+|u_{k}|)^{p}}dV \rightarrow {\infty }. \end{aligned}$$

  2. (ii)
    If \(\alpha >\alpha _{n}\), then there exists a sequence of function \(\{u_{k}\}\) such that \(\Vert \nabla _{g}u_{k}\Vert _{n}\le {1}\), but
    $$\begin{aligned} \frac{1}{\Vert u_{k}\Vert _{L^n}^{n}}\int _{\mathbb {H}^n} \frac{\Phi _{n}(\alpha (|u_{k}|)^{\frac{n}{n-1}})}{(1+|u_{k}|)^{p}}dV\rightarrow {\infty }, \end{aligned}$$
    for any \(p\ge {0}\).

This result sharpens the earlier work of the authors Lu and Tang (Adv Nonlinear Stud 13(4):1035–1052, 2013) on best constants for the Moser–Trudinger inequalities on hyperbolic spaces.

In this article, using the heat kernel approach from Bouche (Asymptotic results for Hermitian line bundles over complex manifolds: The heat kernel approach, Higher-dimensional complex varieties, pp 67–81, de Gruyter, Berlin, 1996), we derive sup-norm bounds for cusp forms of integral and half-integral weight. Let \({\Gamma\subset \mathrm{PSL}_{2}(\mathbb{R})}\) be a cocompact Fuchsian subgroup of first kind. For \({k \in \frac{1}{2} \mathbb{Z}}\) (or \({k \in 2\mathbb{Z}}\)), let \({S^{k}_{\nu}(\Gamma)}\) denote the complex vector space of cusp forms of weight-k and nebentypus \({\nu^{2k}}\) (\({\nu^{k\slash 2}}\), if \({k \in 2\mathbb{Z}}\)) with respect to \({\Gamma}\), where \({\nu}\) is a unitary character. Let \({\lbrace f_{1},\ldots,f_{j_{k}} \rbrace}\) denote an orthonormal basis of \({S^{k}_{\nu}(\Gamma)}\). In this article, we show that as \({k \rightarrow \infty,}\) the sup-norm for \({\sum_{i=1}^{j_{k}}y^{k}|f_{i}(z)|^{2}}\) is bounded by O(k), where the implied constant is independent of \({\Gamma}\). Furthermore, using results from Berman (Math. Z. 248:325–344, 2004), we extend these results to the case when \({\Gamma}\) is cofinite.  相似文献
