Suppose that M is a von Neumann algebra of operators on a Hilbert space H and τ is a faithful normal semifinite trace on M. Let E, F and G be ideal spaces on (M, τ). We find when a τ-measurable operator X belongs to E in terms of the idempotent P of M. The sets E+F and E·F are also ideal spaces on (M, τ); moreover, E·F = F·E and (E+FG = E·G+F·G. The structure of ideal spaces is modular. We establish some new properties of the L1(M, τ) space of integrable operators affiliated to the algebra M. The results are new even for the *-algebra M = B(H) of all bounded linear operators on H which is endowed with the canonical trace τ = tr.  相似文献

In this paper, we will define a graph von Neumann algebra over a fixed von Neumann algebra M, where G is a countable directed graph, by a crossed product algebra = M × α , where is the graph groupoid of G and α is the graph-representation. After defining a certain conditional expectation from onto its M-diagonal subalgebra we can see that this crossed product algebra is *-isomorphic to an amalgamated free product where = vN(M × α where is the subset of consisting of all reduced words in {e, e –1} and M × α is a W *-subalgebra of as a new graph von Neumann algebra induced by a graph G e . Also, we will show that, as a Banach space, a graph von Neumann algebra is isomorphic to a Banach space ⊕ where is a certain subset of the set E(G)* of all words in the edge set E(G) of G. Proofs of two assertions are sketched. 1) If the Banach space of a von Neumann algebra A is the third dual of some Banach space, then the space A is isometrically isomorphic to the second dual of some von Neumann algebra A and the von Neumann algebra A is uniquely determined by its enveloping von Neumann algebra (up to von Neumann algebra isomorphism) and is the unique second predual of A (up to isometric isomorphism of Banach spaces). 2) An infinite-dimensional von Neumann algebra cannot have preduals of all orders.  相似文献

The main purpose of this paper is to study certain algebraic structures induced by directed graphs. We have studied graph groupoids, which are algebraic structures induced by given graphs. By defining a certain groupoid-homomorphism ?? on the graph groupoid ${\mathbb{G}}$ of a given graph G, we define the diagram of G by the image ${\delta(\mathbb{G})}$ of ??, equipped with the inherited binary operation on ${\mathbb{G}}$ . We study the fundamental properties of the diagram ${\delta(\mathbb{G})}$ , and compare them with those of ${\mathbb{G}}$ . Similar to Cho (Acta Appl Math 95:95?C134, 2007), we construct the groupoid von Neumann algebra ${\mathcal{M}_{G}=vN(\delta(\mathbb{G}))}$ , generated by ${\delta(\mathbb{G})}$ , and consider the operator algebraic properties of ${\mathcal{M}_{G}}$ . In particular, we show ${\mathcal{M}_{G}}$ is *-isomorphic to a von Neumann algebra generated by a family of idempotent operators and nilpotent operators, under suitable representations.  相似文献
