Let M be a 3-manifold with torus boundary components \(T_{1}\) and \(T_2\). Let \(\phi :T_{1} \rightarrow T_{2}\) be a homeomorphism, \(M_\phi \) the manifold obtained from M by gluing \(T_{1}\) to \(T_{2}\) via the map \(\phi \), and T the image of \(T_{1}\) in \(M_\phi \). We show that if \(\phi \) is “sufficiently complicated” then any incompressible or strongly irreducible surface in \(M_\phi \) can be isotoped to be disjoint from T. It follows that every Heegaard splitting of a 3-manifold admitting a “sufficiently complicated” JSJ decomposition is an amalgamation of Heegaard splittings of the components of the JSJ decomposition.  相似文献

In this note we confirm a conjecture raised by Benjamini et al. (SIAM J Discrete Math 28(2):767–785, 2014) on the acquaintance time of graphs, proving that for all graphs G with n vertices it holds that \(\mathcal {AC}(G) = O(n^{3/2})\). This is done by proving that for all graphs G with n vertices and maximum degree \(\varDelta \) it holds that \(\mathcal {AC}(G) \le 20 \varDelta n\). Combining this with the bound \(\mathcal {AC}(G) \le O(n^2/\varDelta )\) from Benjamini et al. (SIAM J Discrete Math 28(2):767–785, 2014) gives the uniform upper bound of \(O(n^{3/2})\) for all n-vertex graphs. This bound is tight up to a multiplicative constant. We also prove that for the n-vertex path \(P_n\) it holds that \(\mathcal {AC}(P_n)=n-2\). In addition we show that the barbell graph \(B_n\) consisting of two cliques of sizes \({\lceil n/2\rceil }\) and \({\lfloor n/2\rfloor }\) connected by a single edge also has \(\mathcal {AC}(B_n) = n-2\). This shows that it is possible to add \(\varOmega (n^2\)) edges a graph without changing its \(\mathcal {AC}\) value.  相似文献

Let \(\mathbb {F}_{p^m}\) be a finite field of cardinality \(p^m\), where p is a prime, and kN be any positive integers. We denote \(R_k=F_{p^m}[u]/\langle u^k\rangle =F_{p^m}+uF_{p^m}+\cdots +u^{k-1}F_{p^m}\) (\(u^k=0\)) and \(\lambda =a_0+a_1u+\cdots +a_{k-1}u^{k-1}\) where \(a_0, a_1,\ldots , a_{k-1}\in F_{p^m}\) satisfying \(a_0\ne 0\) and \(a_1=1\). Let r be a positive integer satisfying \(p^{r-1}+1\le k\le p^r\). First we define a Gray map from \(R_k\) to \(F_{p^m}^{p^r}\), then prove that the Gray image of any linear \(\lambda \)-constacyclic code over \(R_k\) of length N is a distance preserving linear \(a_0^{p^r}\)-constacyclic code over \(F_{p^m}\) of length \(p^rN\). Furthermore, the generator polynomials for each linear \(\lambda \)-constacyclic code over \(R_k\) of length N and its Gray image are given respectively. Finally, some optimal constacyclic codes over \(F_{3}\) and \(F_{5}\) are constructed.  相似文献

Let p be an odd prime number and \(\ell \) an odd prime number dividing \(p-1\). We denote by \(F=F_{p,\ell }\) the real abelian field of conductor p and degree \(\ell \), and by \(h_F\) the class number of F. For a prime number \(r \ne p,\,\ell \), let \(F_{\infty }\) be the cyclotomic \(\mathbb {Z}_r\)-extension over F, and \(M_{\infty }/F_{\infty }\) the maximal pro-r abelian extension unramified outside r. We prove that \(M_{\infty }\) coincides with \(F_{\infty }\) and consequently \(h_F\) is not divisible by r when r is a primitive root modulo \(\ell \) and r is smaller than an explicit constant depending on p.  相似文献

Let \(\Pi \) be a plane of order \(q^{3}\), \(q>2\), admitting \(G\cong PGL(3,q)\) as a collineation group. By Dempwolff (Geometriae Dedicata 18:101–112, 1985) the plane \(\Pi \) contains a G-invariant subplane \(\pi _{0}\) isomorphic to PG(2, q) on which G acts 2-transitively. In this paper it is shown that, if the homologies of \(\pi _{0}\) contained in G extend to \(\Pi \) then \(\Pi \) is either the desarguesian or the Figueroa plane.  相似文献

We study generalizations of the classical Bernstein operators on the polynomial spaces \(\mathbb {P}_{n}[a,b]\), where instead of fixing \(\mathbf {1}\) and x, we reproduce exactly \(\mathbf {1}\) and a polynomial \(f_1\), strictly increasing on [ab]. We prove that for sufficiently large n, there always exist generalized Bernstein operators fixing \(\mathbf {1}\) and \(f_1\). These operators are defined by non-decreasing sequences of nodes precisely when \(f_1^\prime > 0\) on (ab), but even if \(f_1^\prime \) vanishes somewhere inside (ab), they converge to the identity.  相似文献

Let \(k\ge 1\) and \(n_1,\ldots ,n_k\ge 1\) be some integers. Let \(S(n_1,\ldots ,n_k)\) be a tree T such that T has a vertex v of degree k and \(T{\setminus } v\) is the disjoint union of the paths \(P_{n_1},\ldots ,P_{n_k}\), that is \(T{\setminus } v\cong P_{n_1}\cup \cdots \cup P_{n_k}\) so that every neighbor of v in T has degree one or two. The tree \(S(n_1,\ldots ,n_k)\) is called starlike tree, a tree with exactly one vertex of degree greater than two, if \(k\ge 3\). In this paper we obtain the eigenvalues of starlike trees. We find some bounds for the largest eigenvalue (for the spectral radius) of starlike trees. In particular we prove that if \(k\ge 4\) and \(n_1,\ldots ,n_k\ge 2\), then \(\frac{k-1}{\sqrt{k-2}}<\lambda _1(S(n_1,\ldots ,n_k))<\frac{k}{\sqrt{k-1}}\), where \(\lambda _1(T)\) is the largest eigenvalue of T. Finally we characterize all starlike trees that all of whose eigenvalues are in the interval \((-2,2)\).  相似文献

A bounded linear operator T acting on a Hilbert space is said to have orthogonality property \(\mathcal {O}\) if the subspaces \(\ker (T-\alpha )\) and \(\ker (T-\beta )\) are orthogonal for all \(\alpha , \beta \in \sigma _p(T)\) with \(\alpha \ne \beta \). In this paper, the authors investigate the compact perturbations of operators with orthogonality property \(\mathcal {O}\). We give a sufficient and necessary condition to determine when an operator T has the following property: for each \(\varepsilon >0\), there exists \(K\in \mathcal {K(H)}\) with \(\Vert K\Vert <\varepsilon \) such that \(T+K\) has orthogonality property \(\mathcal {O}\). Also, we study the stability of orthogonality property \(\mathcal {O}\) under small compact perturbations and analytic functional calculus.  相似文献

Let S be a semigroup, and \(\mathbb {F}\) a field of characteristic \(\ne 2\). If the pair \(f,g:S \rightarrow \mathbb {F}\) is a solution of Wilson’s \(\mu \)-functional equation such that \(f \ne 0\), then g satisfies d’Alembert’s \(\mu \)-functional equation.  相似文献

In this paper, we study \(\lambda \)-constacyclic codes over the ring \(R=\mathbb {Z}_4+u\mathbb {Z}_4\) where \(u^{2}=1\), for \(\lambda =3+2u\) and \(2+3u\). Two new Gray maps from R to \(\mathbb {Z}_4^{3}\) are defined with the goal of obtaining new linear codes over \(\mathbb {Z}_4\). The Gray images of \(\lambda \)-constacyclic codes over R are determined. We then conducted a computer search and obtained many \(\lambda \)-constacyclic codes over R whose \(\mathbb {Z}_4\)-images have better parameters than currently best-known linear codes over \(\mathbb {Z}_4\).  相似文献

We prove Nikol’skii type inequalities that, for polynomials on the n-dimensional torus \(\mathbb {T}^n\), relate the \(L^p\)-norm with the \(L^q\)-norm (with respect to the normalized Lebesgue measure and \(0 <p <q < \infty \)). Among other things, we show that \(C=\sqrt{q/p}\) is the best constant such that \(\Vert P\Vert _{L^q}\le C^{\text {deg}(P)} \Vert P\Vert _{L^p}\) for all homogeneous polynomials P on \(\mathbb {T}^n\). We also prove an exact inequality between the \(L^p\)-norm of a polynomial P on \(\mathbb {T}^n\) and its Mahler measure M(P), which is the geometric mean of |P| with respect to the normalized Lebesgue measure on \(\mathbb {T}^n\). Using extrapolation, we transfer this estimate into a Khintchine–Kahane type inequality, which, for polynomials on \(\mathbb {T}^n\), relates a certain exponential Orlicz norm and Mahler’s measure. Applications are given, including some interpolation estimates.  相似文献

Fix (not necessarily distinct) objects i and j of a locally small category S, and write \(S_{ij}\) for the set of all morphisms \(i\rightarrow j\). Fix a morphism \(a\in S_{ji}\), and define an operation \(\star _a\) on \(S_{ij}\) by \(x\star _ay=xay\) for all \(x,y\in S_{ij}\). Then \((S_{ij},\star _a)\) is a semigroup, known as a sandwich semigroup, and denoted by \(S_{ij}^a\). This article develops a general theory of sandwich semigroups in locally small categories. We begin with structural issues such as regularity, Green’s relations and stability, focusing on the relationships between these properties on \(S_{ij}^a\) and the whole category S. We then identify a natural condition on a, called sandwich regularity, under which the set \({\text {Reg}}(S_{ij}^a)\) of all regular elements of \(S_{ij}^a\) is a subsemigroup of \(S_{ij}^a\). Under this condition, we carefully analyse the structure of the semigroup \({\text {Reg}}(S_{ij}^a)\), relating it via pullback products to certain regular subsemigroups of \(S_{ii}\) and \(S_{jj}\), and to a certain regular sandwich monoid defined on a subset of \(S_{ji}\); among other things, this allows us to also describe the idempotent-generated subsemigroup \(\mathbb E(S_{ij}^a)\) of \(S_{ij}^a\). We also study combinatorial invariants such as the rank (minimal size of a generating set) of the semigroups \(S_{ij}^a\), \({\text {Reg}}(S_{ij}^a)\) and \(\mathbb E(S_{ij}^a)\); we give lower bounds for these ranks, and in the case of \({\text {Reg}}(S_{ij}^a)\) and \(\mathbb E(S_{ij}^a)\) show that the bounds are sharp under a certain condition we call MI-domination. Applications to concrete categories of transformations and partial transformations are given in Part II.  相似文献

Let A be an ordered Banach algebra with a unit \(\mathbf{e}\) and a cone \(A^+\). An element p of A is said to be an order idempotent if \(p^2 = p\) and \(0 \le p\le \mathbf{e}\). An element \(a\in A^+\) is said to be irreducible if the relation \((\mathbf{e}-p)ap = 0\), where p is an order idempotent, implies \(p = 0\) or \(p = \mathbf{e}\). For an arbitrary element a of A the peripheral spectrum \(\sigma _\mathrm{per}(a)\) of a is the set \(\sigma _\mathrm{per}(a) = \{\lambda \in \sigma (a):|\lambda | = r(a)\}\), where \(\sigma (a)\) is the spectrum of a and r(a) is the spectral radius of a. We investigate properties of the peripheral spectrum of an irreducible element a. Conditions under which \(\sigma _\mathrm{per}(a)\) contains or coincides with \(r(a)H_m\), where \(H_m\) is the group of all \(m^\mathrm{th}\) roots of unity, and the spectrum \(\sigma (a)\) is invariant under rotation by the angle \(\frac{2\pi }{m}\) for some \(m\in {\mathbb N}\), are given. The correlation between these results and the existence of a cyclic form of a is considered. The conditions under which a is primitive, i.e., \(\sigma _\mathrm{per}(a) = \{r(a)\}\), are studied. The necessary assumptions on the algebra A which imply the validity of these results, are discussed. In particular, the Lotz–Schaefer axiom is introduced and finite-rank elements of A are defined. Other approaches to the notions of irreducibility and primitivity are discussed. Conditions under which the inequalities \(0 \le b < a\) imply \(r(b) < r(a)\) are studied. The closedness of the center \(A_\mathbf{e}\), i.e., of the order ideal generated by \(\mathbf{e}\) in A, is proved.  相似文献

Let Q be a quasigroup. For \(\alpha ,\beta \in S_Q\) let \(Q_{\alpha ,\beta }\) be the principal isotope \(x*y = \alpha (x)\beta (y)\). Put \(\mathbf a(Q)= |\{(x,y,z)\in Q^3;\) \(x(yz)) = (xy)z\}|\) and assume that \(|Q|=n\). Then \(\sum _{\alpha ,\beta }\mathbf a(Q_{\alpha ,\beta })/(n!)^2 = n^2(1+(n-1)^{-1})\), and for every \(\alpha \in S_Q\) there is \(\sum _\beta \mathbf a(Q_{\alpha ,\beta })/n! = n(n-1)^{-1}\sum _x(f_x^2-2f_x+n)\ge n^2\), where \(f_x=|\{y\in Q;\) \( y = \alpha (y)x\}|\). If G is a group and \(\alpha \) is an orthomorphism, then \(\mathbf a(G_{\alpha ,\beta })=n^2\) for every \(\beta \in S_Q\). A detailed case study of \(\mathbf a(G_{\alpha ,\beta })\) is made for the situation when \(G = \mathbb Z_{2d}\), and both \(\alpha \) and \(\beta \) are “natural” near-orthomorphisms. Asymptotically, \(\mathbf a(G_{\alpha ,\beta })>3n\) if G is an abelian group of order n. Computational results: \(\mathbf a(7) = 17\) and \(\mathbf a(8) \le 21\), where \(\mathbf a(n) = \min \{\mathbf a(Q);\) \( |Q|=n\}\). There are also determined minimum values for \(\mathbf a(G_{\alpha ,\beta })\), G a group of order \(\le 8\).  相似文献

Let k be an odd positive integer, L a lattice on a regular positive definite k-dimensional quadratic space over \(\mathbb {Q}\), \(N_L\) the level of L, and \(\mathscr {M}(L)\)  be the linear space of \(\theta \)-series attached to the distinct classes in the genus of L. We prove that, for an odd prime \(p|N_L\), if \(L_p=L_{p,1}\,\bot \, L_{p,2}\), where \(L_{p,1}\) is unimodular, \(L_{p,2}\) is (p)-modular, and \(\mathbb {Q}_pL_{p,2}\) is anisotropic, then \(\mathscr {M}(L;p):=\) \(\mathscr {M}(L)\) \(+T_{p^2}.\) \(\mathscr {M}(L)\)  is stable under the Hecke operator \(T_{p^2}\). If \(L_2\) is isometric to \(\left( \begin{array}{ll}0&{}\frac{1}{2}\\ \frac{1}{2}&{}0\end{array}\right) ^{\kappa }\,\bot \, \langle \varepsilon \rangle \) or \(\left( \begin{array}{ll}0&{}\frac{1}{2}\\ \frac{1}{2}&{}0\end{array}\right) ^{\kappa }\,\bot \, \langle 2\varepsilon \rangle \) or \(\left( \begin{array}{ll}0&{}1\\ 1&{}0\end{array}\right) ^{\kappa }\,\bot \, \langle \varepsilon \rangle \) with \(\varepsilon \in \mathbb {Z}_2^{\times }\) and \(\kappa :=\frac{k-1}{2}\), then \(\mathscr {M}(L;2):=T_{2^2}.\mathscr {M}(L)+T_{2^2}^2.\,\mathscr {M}(L)\) is stable under the Hecke operator \(T_{2^2}\). Furthermore, we determine some invariant subspaces of the cusp forms for the Hecke operators.  相似文献

We introduce and study the first-order Generic Vopěnka’s Principle, which states that for every definable proper class of structures \(\mathcal {C}\) of the same type, there exist \(B\ne A\) in \(\mathcal {C}\) such that B elementarily embeds into A in some set-forcing extension. We show that, for \(n\ge 1\), the Generic Vopěnka’s Principle fragment for \(\Pi _n\)-definable classes is equiconsistent with a proper class of n-remarkable cardinals. The n-remarkable cardinals hierarchy for \(n\in \omega \), which we introduce here, is a natural generic analogue for the \(C^{(n)}\)-extendible cardinals that Bagaria used to calibrate the strength of the first-order Vopěnka’s Principle in Bagaria (Arch Math Logic 51(3–4):213–240, 2012). Expanding on the theme of studying set theoretic properties which assert the existence of elementary embeddings in some set-forcing extension, we introduce and study the weak Proper Forcing Axiom, \(\mathrm{wPFA}\). The axiom \(\mathrm{wPFA}\) states that for every transitive model \(\mathcal M\) in the language of set theory with some \(\omega _1\)-many additional relations, if it is forced by a proper forcing \(\mathbb P\) that \(\mathcal M\) satisfies some \(\Sigma _1\)-property, then V has a transitive model \(\bar{\mathcal M}\), satisfying the same \(\Sigma _1\)-property, and in some set-forcing extension there is an elementary embedding from \(\bar{\mathcal M}\) into \(\mathcal M\). This is a weakening of a formulation of \(\mathrm{PFA}\) due to Claverie and Schindler (J Symb Logic 77(2):475–498, 2012), which asserts that the embedding from \(\bar{\mathcal M}\) to \(\mathcal M\) exists in V. We show that \(\mathrm{wPFA}\) is equiconsistent with a remarkable cardinal. Furthermore, the axiom \(\mathrm{wPFA}\) implies \(\mathrm{PFA}_{\aleph _2}\), the Proper Forcing Axiom for antichains of size at most \(\omega _2\), but it is consistent with \(\square _\kappa \) for all \(\kappa \ge \omega _2\), and therefore does not imply \(\mathrm{PFA}_{\aleph _3}\).  相似文献

Let \(k\in \mathbb {N}^*\) be even. We consider two trigonometric series \( F_k(x)= \sum _{n=1}^\infty \frac{\sigma _{k-1}(n)}{n^{k+1}} \sin (2\pi n x)\) and \(G_k(x)= \sum _{n=1}^\infty \frac{\sigma _{k-1}(n)}{n^{k+1}} \cos (2\pi n x),\) where \(\sigma _{k-1}\) is the divisor function. They converge on \(\mathbb {R}\) to continuous functions. In this paper, we examine the differentiability of \(F_k\) and \(G_k\). These functions are related to Eisenstein series, and their (quasi-)modular properties allow us to apply the method proposed by Itatsu in 1981 in the study of the Riemann series. We focus on the case \(k=2\) and we show that the sine series exhibits a different behaviour with respect to differentiability than the cosine series. We prove that the differentiability of \(F_2\) at an irrational x is related to the continued fraction expansion of x. We estimate the modulus of continuity of \(F_2\). We formulate a conjecture concerning differentiability of \(F_k\) and \(G_k\) for any k even.  相似文献

Given a model \(\mathcal {M}\) of set theory, and a nontrivial automorphism j of \(\mathcal {M}\), let \(\mathcal {I}_{\mathrm {fix}}(j)\) be the submodel of \(\mathcal {M}\) whose universe consists of elements m of \(\mathcal {M}\) such that \(j(x)=x\) for every x in the transitive closure of m (where the transitive closure of m is computed within \(\mathcal {M}\)). Here we study the class \(\mathcal {C}\) of structures of the form \(\mathcal {I}_{\mathrm {fix}}(j)\), where the ambient model \(\mathcal {M}\) satisfies a frugal yet robust fragment of \(\mathrm {ZFC}\) known as \(\mathrm {MOST}\), and \(j(m)=m\) whenever m is a finite ordinal in the sense of \(\mathcal {M}.\) Our main achievement is the calculation of the theory of \(\mathcal {C}\) as precisely \(\mathrm {MOST+\Delta }_{0}^{\mathcal {P}}\)-\(\mathrm {Collection}\). The following theorems encapsulate our principal results: Theorem A. Every structure in \(\mathcal {C}\) satisfies \(\mathrm {MOST+\Delta }_{0}^{\mathcal {P}}\)-\(\mathrm { Collection}\). Theorem B. Each of the following three conditions is sufficient for a countable structure \(\mathcal {N}\) to be in \(\mathcal {C}\):(a) \(\mathcal {N}\) is a transitive model of \(\mathrm {MOST+\Delta }_{0}^{\mathcal {P}}\)-\(\mathrm {Collection}\).(b) \(\mathcal {N}\) is a recursively saturated model of \(\mathrm {MOST+\Delta }_{0}^{\mathcal {P}}\)-\(\mathrm {Collection}\).(c) \(\mathcal {N}\) is a model of \(\mathrm {ZFC}\). Theorem C. Suppose \(\mathcal {M}\) is a countable recursively saturated model of \(\mathrm {ZFC}\) and I is a proper initial segment of \(\mathrm {Ord}^{\mathcal {M}}\) that is closed under exponentiation and contains \(\omega ^\mathcal {M}\) . There is a group embedding \(j\longmapsto \check{j}\) from \(\mathrm {Aut}(\mathbb {Q})\) into \(\mathrm {Aut}(\mathcal {M})\) such that I is the longest initial segment of \(\mathrm {Ord}^{\mathcal {M}}\) that is pointwise fixed by \(\check{j}\) for every nontrivial \(j\in \mathrm {Aut}(\mathbb {Q}).\) In Theorem C, \(\mathrm {Aut}(X)\) is the group of automorphisms of the structure X, and \(\mathbb {Q}\) is the ordered set of rationals.  相似文献

Let \((M,\Omega )\) be a connected symplectic 4-manifold and let \(F=(J,H) :M\rightarrow \mathbb {R}^2\) be a completely integrable system on M with only non-degenerate singularities. Assume that F does not have singularities with hyperbolic blocks and that \(p_1,\ldots ,p_n\) are the focus–focus singularities of F. For each subset \(S=\{i_1,\ldots ,i_j\}\), we will show how to modify F locally around any \(p_i, i \in S\), in order to create a new integrable system \(\widetilde{F}=(J, \widetilde{H}) :M \rightarrow \mathbb {R}^2\) such that its classical spectrum \(\widetilde{F}(M)\) contains j smooth curves of singular values corresponding to non-degenerate transversally hyperbolic singularities of \(\widetilde{F}\). Moreover the focus–focus singularities of \(\widetilde{F}\) are precisely \(p_i\), \(i \in \{1,\ldots ,n\} \setminus S\). The proof is based on Eliasson’s linearization theorem for non-degenerate singularities, and properties of the Hamiltonian Hopf bifurcation.  相似文献
