Nontrivial solutions to boundary value problems for semilinear strongly degenerate elliptic differential equations

In this paper we study boundary value problems for semilinear equations involving strongly degenerate elliptic differential operators. Via a Pohozaev??s type identity we show that if the nonlinear term grows faster than some power function then the boundary value problem has no nontrivial solution. Otherwise when the nonlinear term grows slower than the same power function, by establishing embedding theorems for weighted Sobolev spaces associated with the strongly degenerate elliptic equations, then applying the theory of critical values in Banach spaces, we prove that the problem has a nontrivial solution, or even infinite number of solutions provided that the nonlinear term is an odd function.     

Isolated boundary singularities of semilinear elliptic equations

Given a smooth domain ${\Omega\subset\mathbb{R}^N}$ such that ${0 \in \partial\Omega}$ and given a nonnegative smooth function ?? on ???, we study the behavior near 0 of positive solutions of ???u?=?u ^q in ?? such that u =? ?? on ???\{0}. We prove that if ${\frac{N+1}{N-1} < q < \frac{N+2}{N-2}}$ , then ${u(x)\leq C |x|^{-\frac{2}{q-1}}}$ and we compute the limit of ${|x|^{\frac{2}{q-1}} u(x)}$ as x ?? 0. We also investigate the case ${q= \frac{N+1}{N-1}}$ . The proofs rely on the existence and uniqueness of solutions of related equations on spherical domains.     

Smoothness of generalized solutions for higher-order elliptic equations with nonlocal boundary conditions

The smoothness of generalized solutions for higher-order elliptic equations with nonlocal boundary conditions is studied in plane domains. Necessary and sufficient conditions upon the right-hand side of the problem and nonlocal operators under which the generalized solutions possess an appropriate smoothness are established.     

Bounded positive solutions of semilinear elliptic equations

In this paper, by using the fixed point theory, under quite general conditions on the nonlinear term, we obtain an existence result of bounded positive solutions of semilinear elliptic equations in exterior domain of Rn, n?3.     

Periodic solutions of nonlocal semilinear fourth-order differential equations

In this paper we study the existence of periodic solutions with prescribed wavelength for two classes of nonlocal fourth-order nonautonomous differential equations. Existence of nontrivial solutions for the first equation is proved using Clark’s theorem. Existence of nontrivial solutions for the second equation is proved using the symmetric mountain-pass theorem.     

Exact boundary behavior of large solutions to semilinear elliptic equations with a nonlinear gradient term

This paper is concerned with exact boundary behavior of large solutions to semilinear elliptic equations △u=b(x)f(u)(C0+|▽u|q),x∈Ω,where Ω is a bounded domain with a smooth boundary in RN,C0≥0,q E [0,2),b∈Clocα(Ω) is positive in but may be vanishing or appropriately singular on the boundary,f∈C[0,∞),f(0)=0,and f is strictly increasing on [0,∞)(or f∈C(R),f(s)> 0,■s∈R,f is strictly increasing on R).We show unified boundary behavior of such solutions to the problem under a new structure condition on f.     

Small perturbation solutions for nonlocal elliptic equations

We present a small perturbation result for nonlocal elliptic equations, which says that for a class of nonlocal operators, the solutions are in C^σ+α for any α∈(0,1) as long as the solutions are small. This is a nonlocal generalization of a celebrated result of Savin in the case of second order equations.     

Multiple solutions for semilinear elliptic equations with Neumann boundary condition and jumping nonlinearities

We obtain nonconstant solutions of semilinear elliptic Neumann boundary value problems with jumping nonlinearities when the asymptotic limits of the nonlinearity fall in the type (Il), l>2 and (IIl), l?1 regions formed by the curves of the Fucik spectrum. Furthermore, we have at least two nonconstant solutions in every order interval under resonance case. In this paper, we apply the sub-sup solution method, Fucik spectrum, mountain pass theorem in order intervals, degree theory and Morse theory to get the conclusions.     

Classification of positive solutions of semilinear elliptic equations

Symmetry of solutions to semilinear elliptic equations via Morse index

In this paper we prove symmetry results for solutions of semilinear elliptic equations in a ball or in an annulus in , , in the case where the nonlinearity has a convex first derivative. More precisely we prove that solutions having Morse index are foliated Schwarz symmetric, i.e. they are axially symmetric with respect to an axis passing through the origin and nonincreasing in the polar angle from this axis. From this we deduce, under some additional hypotheses on the nonlinearity, that the nodal set of sign changing solutions with Morse index intersects the boundary of the domain.

     

Three positive solutions of nonhomogeneous semilinear elliptic equations

In this paper, we use new analyses to assert that there are three positive solutions of Eq. (1.1) in infinite cylinder domain with hole .     

Generalized boundary values of the solutions of semilinear elliptic equations from weighted functional spaces

In weighted C-spaces, we establish the solvability of a boundary-value problem for a semilinear elliptic equation of order 2m in a bounded domain with generalized functions given on its boundary, strong power singularities at some points of the boundary, and finite orders of singularities on the entire boundary. The behavior of the solution near the boundary of the domain is analyzed.
