Dynamic holography in photorefractive materials using self-pumped phase conjugate beam of the object beam itself as the other writing beam is proposed. Our detailed theoretical analysis shows four-fold increase in the diffraction efficiency of dynamic holograms if recorded using this geometry even in photorefractive crystal like BTO (having low optical activity) without applying external field. We propose a new way to record images in a photorefractive LiNbO3 crystal. This method involves only a single object light without any reference light. We believe that the recording is attained by fanning holograms that result from interference between the object light and its scattered light. Although volume gratings are involved, the recorded pattern can be viewed not only with a laser light beam that is incident over a certain angular range but also with white light.  相似文献

We investigate experimentally and numerically a novel method of modifying photorefractive waveguides in a lithium niobate crystal by a guided beam. The guided beam with a strong optical power can change the refractive index of the photorefractive waveguide because of the photorefractive effect. The modification of waveguide structure can be utilized for optical dynamic interconnection. Changes of optical characteristics of a probe beam caused by a modification beam are investigated. Experimental results show that the transmitted power or the peak intensity of the probe beam decreases exponentially as a function of total exposure energy of the modification beam. We also numerically analyze the refractive index change caused by the modification beam in the photorefractive waveguide. The numerical results show good agreement with the experimental results.  相似文献

利用变分方法求解了小光强光折变非线性薛定谔方程,得到了高斯光束在外加正偏压光折变晶体中的演化特性,以及高斯光束宽度压缩与展宽的动态振荡规律,给出了高斯光束的宽度、振幅和波前曲率的表达式,研究了势函数与光束宽度的关系.结果表明,小光强高斯光束在正偏压光折变晶体中传播时,其宽度和振幅将经历周期地变化或者展宽发散,在一定条件下高斯光束在晶体中可以形状不变地传播,形成“高斯孤子”,这些特性在工程实践中具有很高的实用价值. 关键词: 高斯孤子 高斯光束 变分方法 光折变非线性方程  相似文献

本文提供一种测量两束相干的ps光脉冲的空间二维时间振幅相关函数的新方法.在此方法中,光脉冲是被记录在一种光致折变的体积全息介质中,而所记录的信息可以通过直接量度在介质中所形成的光栅的空间分布而读出.这种方法可的可行性已为实验证实,它是通过3.5ps倍频锁模Nd:YAG激光测量光致折变晶体LiNbO3来实现的。  相似文献

Talbot interferometry with a larger applicable scope has been investigated based on the intensity amplification method to weak moiré fringes by using photorefractive crystal as a light amplifier. It not only has function of conventional Talbot interferometry, but also is suitable for situations such as weak incident beam and detected object with strong absorption. The investigation indicates that the method or technique is feasible and the results of theoretical analysis are verified by experiments. Based on this investigation, Talbot interferometry with an adaptive light intensity compensator is proposed and some merits and demerits of the technique have briefly been discussed.  相似文献

We propose a new holographic memory scheme based on random-phase-coded multiplexing in a photorefractive LiNbO3:Fe crystal. Experimental results show that rotating a diffuser placed as a random-phase modulator in the path of the reference beam provides a simple yet effective method of increasing the holographic storage capabilities of the crystal. Combining this rotational multiplexing with angular multiplexing offers further data-storage possibilities. A dynamic incoherent-to-coherent converter using the photorefractive fanning effect is demonstrated in a BaTiO(3):Ce crystal, and high-quality positive replicas of the incoherent image are obtained with a resolution of 32line pairs/mm. In this method the incoherent image-bearing beam modulates the transmission intensity of the coherent beam directly, and no readout beam is required. When the intensity ratio of the incoherent beam to the coherent beam is smaller than 5, the transmission intensity of the coherent beam increases almost linearly with increased intensity of the incoherent beam.  相似文献

This paper reports that when an intense extraordinary-polarized laser beam illuminates a photorefractive BaTiO3 crystal, the dynamic beam fanning light is formed to be a thermal-like light source with a long correlation time and wide spectral bandwidth. The experimental results of the first- and second-order double-slit interference with such photorefractive fanning light source, can be understood with the theoretical simulation in terms of Hanbury-Brown and Twiss effect.  相似文献

Photoconductive dependence of two-beam coupling between the pump beam and the signal beam in photorefractive materials have been analyzed in case of non-degenerate wave mixing under the undepleted pump approximation method. During the two-wave mixing in photorefractive materials, steady state amplification of the signal beam and oscillation characteristics of a single unidirectional ring resonator has been studied. The domination of the two-beam coupling gain over the combined absorption and resonator losses such as Fresnel reflections from the crystal and imperfect mirrors builds up unidirectional oscillation. The buildup of such an oscillation leads to a saturation of the gain, which can be explained in terms of the photorefractive phase-shift. The existence of this phase-shift between the photorefractive index grating and the illumination intensity pattern, which is of characteristic of the photorefractive effect, leads to an energy transfer between the two beams. For a single unidirectional ring resonators, the effects of photoconductivity of the materials, two-beam energy coupling coefficient, dielectric constant, crystal thickness, and material's absorption coefficient on amplification of the two-beam coupling gain and photorefractive phase-shifts of the signal beam have also been studied in detail. It has been found that amplification of the signal beam and phase-shift can be enhanced by taking the photorefractive crystal having higher photoconductivity and lower dielectric constant, which improves performance of the resonators.  相似文献

A mutually pumped phase-conjugator (MPPC) consisting of two photorefractive crystals is investigated experimentally at a wavelength of about 807 nm. In addition to a Rh:BaTiO3 crystal, which is used in a modified bridge configuration for phase-conjugation, a Co:BaTiO3 crystal is used to amplify the phase-conjugate beam by wave-mixing. The phase-conjugate power is at least doubled compared to that using only one crystal, and the beam quality of the phase-conjugate beam is distinctly improved. Moreover, the temporal stability of the phase-conjugate output using two crystals is much higher than that using only one crystal. The polarization properties of the volume gratings in photorefractive B12SiO20 crystals permit to increase the contrast and signal to noise ratio in the image plane of a large size vibrating object structure. The experiment is based on the nearly degenerate two wave mixing of a pump beam with a low intensity signal beam due to the object structure (moving grating recording with an externally applied field in the 110 crystallographic direction). For a correct orientation of the incident recording beam polarizations, the pump beam emerging from the crystal is linearly polarized, while the signal, after two beam coupling is elliptically polarized. The selective attenuation of the direct pump and scattered beams is obtained with a polarizer. Improved contrasts in the interferogram plane of the vibrating object are demonstrated.  相似文献

Consistent experimental and numerical simulation studies of photorefractive surface wave propagation in Bi12TiO20 and Bi12SiO20 crystals are presented. We induce the photorefractive surface wave with a Gaussian beam of small diameter and show that light leakage from the surface wave takes the form of multiple beam reflection from the crystal surface. The efficiency of surface wave excitation is proved to be much higher for the divergent Gaussian beam than for the convergent one.  相似文献

We report the experimental observation of the dynamic pattern formation of a broad coherent light beam in a biased photorefractive crystal due to the spatiotemporal modulation instability. When the nonlinearity exceeds a specific threshold, the coherent light beam not only breaks up into light spots due to the modulation instability but also fast fluctuates both spatially and temporally, forming an optical turbulent beam, which behaves as a quasi-homogeneous speckled beam or a partially incoherent beam. We investigate the spatial coherence property of an optical turbulent beam from the visibility of the averaged double-slit interference fringe. We also numerically demonstrate the visibility variation of the instantaneous interference fringe of an optical turbulent beam.  相似文献

This work proposes to obtain surface contouring by phase-shifting real-time holography using photorefractive sillenite crystals which provides the surface contouring from a change in phase of wavefront of the object illumination beam. The real-time holography using the photorefractive Bi12SiO20 crystal and the four-frame phase-shifting technique was used to obtain the phase map, this map was filtered by an anisotropic sin/cos filter and the unwrapping process used was the cellular-automata technique. We obtained experimental results of the surfaces of the large objects with real discontinuities, and these results agree with the dimensions of the object.  相似文献

研究了温度对串联光折变晶体回路中高斯光束传播特性的影响.假设一束暗孤子光束和一束高斯光束分别入射到回路的两块晶体上,利用数值计算方法分析了改变暗孤子所在的晶体温度对高斯光束在另外一块晶体中传播特性的影响.结果表明,调节暗孤子的晶体温度能够影响另一块晶体中高斯光束的传播特性,可以决定高斯光束在晶体中是否能够演化为稳定传播的明孤子波.  相似文献

基于相位共轭技术,提出了一种动态体全息衍射特性的实时测量方法.在光学系统设计中,通过调整使得物光和参考光较强,而与参考光共轭的再现光非常弱(约为参考光的1/1 000),借助非常微弱的共轭再现光实现了动态体全息的非破坏性实时测量.三束光的强度和偏振态可通过1/4波片、偏振片和衰减片进行调节和组合,可记录光强调制型或偏振态调制型体全息.本方法适合于光致折射率变化和光致变色材料体全息的测量.  相似文献

Based on a two-level model of optical transitions, the problem of positive and negative feedback effects during simultaneous reading and writing of dynamic holograms in photorefractive crystals has been solved analytically. The diffraction efficiency and the gain coefficient are shown to be nonlinear functions of the readout beam intensity and are nonreciprocal with respect to the readout from the two input ports. The readout beam intensity value that affects a previously recorded grating is shown to depend on microscopic parameters such as the cross-section of photoionization, the recombination coefficient and the concentration of photorefractive centres. An analysis of the amplitude of the overall shared grating has shown that with increasing readout beam intensity the holographic grating thickness decreases. In this case, under negative feedback the grating amplitude decreases, while with positive feedback it increases. The possibility is shown of achieving (under positive feedback) a maximum value of diffraction efficiency and complete energy transfer in a finite thickness of the photorefractive crystal, in contrast to the infinite thickness required in the standard two-beam coupling case.  相似文献

A technique has been proposed to analyze small in-plane component of vibrations by measuring the fringe shift, and analysing the correlation output of captured vibrating Young's fringes with a photorefractive correlator. Fringes are formed due to interference between the reconstructed speckled beam recorded for stationary object beam, and vibrated speckled beam transmitting through a BaTiO3 crystal after introducing a small shift in the diffuser position. The correlation peak intensity is affected due to mismatch of vibrations between two piezo-mirrors in the object beam. High correlation output gives an indication of the frequency matching of known reference and unknown vibrations, thus giving information on the frequency of vibration. Vibration amplitudes of the order of a wavelength of light have been measured by counting the number of fringes passing past a line in the observation plane.  相似文献
