LetN, be a von Neumann algebras on a Hilbert space , a common cyclic and separating vector. Assume to be cyclic and also separating forN . Denote by , N , N the modular operators to (, ), (N, ), resp (N , ). Assume now -it N it N for allt 0. (Such type of inclusions ((N U, ) , ) are called half-sided modular.) Then the modular groups it , N ir , N is ,t, r, s generate a unitary representation of the group S1(2, )/Z 2 of positive energy.Another result is related to two half-sided modular inclusions (1 , ) and (2 , ). Under proper conditions the three modular groups it , 1 ir , 2 is ,t, r, s generate the three-dimensional subgroup of O(2, 1) of two commuting translations and the Lorentz transformation.Partly supported by the DFG, SFB 288 Differentialgeometrie und Quantenphysik.  相似文献

For automorphism groups of operator algebras we show how properties of the difference t – ' t are reflected in relations between the generators , . Indeed for a von Neumann algebraM with separable predual we show that if t – 't 0.28 for smallt, then = 0(+)°-1 where is an inner automorphism ofM and is a bounded derivation ofM. If the difference t – ' t =O(t) ast ; 0, then = + and if t – ' t 0.28 for allt then =. We prove analogous results for unitary groups on a Hilbert space andC 0,C 0 * groups on a Banach space. This paper subsumes an earlier work of the same title which appeared as a report from Z.I.F. der Universität BielefeldWith partial support of the U.S. National Science Foundation  相似文献

The paper contains an interpretation of the domain patterns found on iron whiskers. An explanation of the closure structure at the end of a whisker grown in the [111] direction is given on the basis of a quantitative analysis. Structures, which form on whiskers strained by axial pressure and bending, are also dealt with. The results are in good agreement with experiment.

The Kubo-Toyabe semiclassical formula, describing the time development of the polarization of a particle in zero external field at a lattice site with cubic local environment, is generalized for uniaxial site symmetry. The relaxation function and, in particular, its first moments and long time asymptotics obtained in a closed form depend on the angle between polarization and the crystalc-axis and are shown to vary sensitively with the asymmetry of the field distribution at the particular muon site. Besides the exact uniaxial variant of the Kubo-Toyabe relaxation function, an approximate simple interpolation formula is also derived, which is correct for both short times and in its long time asymptotics. The two parameters (, 1) in the uniaxial formulae can be determined by using the observed values of the second momentM 2 for two different crystal orientations.  相似文献

Conclusions A feature of our problem of restoration of fluctuations in ionosphere height is that the experimental data(t, k) obtained at a fixed reception point are functions of time, whereas the function 1(u, y2) to be restored is a function of the coordinates. If we use the assumption that the irregularities migrate transversely, coordinate y2 can be exchanged for time t. Restoration with respect to the second coordinate u=xi–x0/2 is in effect obtained by using data(t, k) on some set of carrier frequencies. The resultant solution of the restoration problem is in the form of an expansion of 1(u, y2) in known functions determined from the observed data(t, k). We have evaluated the solution accuracy, which depends on the overall power signal-to-noise ratio at all frequencies used. We have demonstrated that the restoration algorithm contains an optimum number (with respect to accuracy) of coefficients to be evaluated.Khar'kov Aviation Institute. Long-range components of the interaction in statistical mechanical systems may affect the critical behavior, raising the system's effective dimension. Presented here are explicit implications to this effect of a collection of rigorous results on the critical exponents in ferromagnetic models with one-component Ising (and more genrally Griffiths=Simon class) spin variables. In particular, it is established that even in dimensions d<4 if a ferromagnetic Ising spin model has a reflection-positive pair interaction with a sufficiently slow decay, e.g. as J x=1/|x| d+ with 0<d/2, then the exponents , , and 4 exist and take their mean-field values. This proves rigorously an early renormalization-group prediction of Fisher, Ma and Nickel. In the converse direction: when the decay is by a similar power law with >-2, then the long-range part of the interaction has no effect on the existent critical exponent bounds, which coincide then with those obtained for short-range models. Also in the Physics Department. We present a microscopic theory of the problem of finding the properties of a particle interacting with potentials located at random sites. The sites are governed by a general probability distribution. The starting point is the multiple scattering equations for the amplitude k 1|T |k 2 in terms of the individual scattering amplitudes k 1|T |k 2. We work with quantitiesA defined by k 1|T |k 2=k 1|T |k 2exp[i(k 1k 2)R ]. The theory is based on a splitting of the fundamental equation forA into equations for the mean A and the fluctuationsAA . Neglect of the fluctuations yields the quasicrystalline approximation. We rearrange the equation forAA to isolate the collective part of the fluctuations. We then make the simplest microscopic truncation which is thatAA is a restricted two-body additive function of the site positions. With the contribution of the collective fluctuations, this yields results forA that are accurate to ordert 4.Work supported in part by the National Science Foundation under Contract No. NSF DMRWork supported in part by the National Science Foundation under Contract No. NSF DMR  相似文献

We study perturbative QCD at the five-loop level. In particular we considerR = tot(e + e hadrons)/(e + e + ) andR = ( v+hadrons)/( ev). We use our method to estimate the five-loop coefficients. As a result, we obtain s (M z ) = 0.1186(11) and s (34 GeV) = 0.1396(16), which are accurate at the 1% level. We also findR = 3.8350(18), which is consistent withR and is accurate to 0.05%.  相似文献

Let : [0, 1][0, 1] be a piecewise monotonie expanding map. Then admits an absolutely continuous invariant measure. A result of Kosyakin and Sandler shows that can be approximated by a sequence of absolutely continuous measures n invariant under piecewise linear Markov maps itn. Each itn is constructed on the inverse images of the turning points of . The easily computable measures n are used to estimate the Liapunov exponent of . The idea of using Markov maps for estimating the Liapunov exponent is applied to both expanding and nonexpanding maps.  相似文献

Exact series expansion data of Sykes et al. are used to calculate the average numberc n and perimeters n of clusters of sizen20 in the site percolation problem for the triangular, square, and honeycomb lattice. At the percolation thresholdp n we find a sharply peaked distribution of perimeterss n with mean s n =((1–p n )/p c )n+O(n ) and width s n 2S n 2n 1.6 where1/=0.39. This perimeter s n should not be interpreted as a cluster surface in the usual sense. Two tests confirm the universality hypothesis with reasonable accuracy. The asymptotic decay of the cluster numbersc n withn is consistent with the postulated asymmetry aboutp c : logc n n forn with1 forp<p c and1/2 forp>p c .  相似文献

The path-integral approach to quantum theory of continuous measurements has been developed in preceding works of the author. According to this approach the measurement amplitude determining probabilities of different outputs of the measurement can be evaluated in the form of a restricted path integral (a path integral in finite limits). With the help of the measurement amplitude, maximum deviation of measurement outputs from the classical one can be easily determined. The aim of the present paper is to express this variance in a simpler and transparent form of a specific uncertainty principle (called the action uncertainty principle, AUP). The most simple (but weak) form of AUP is S, whereS is the action functional. It can be applied for simple derivation of the Bohr-Rosenfeld inequality for measurability of gravitational field. A stronger (and having wider application) form of AUP (for ideal measurements performed in the quantum regime) is | t (S[q]/q(t))q(t)dt|, where the paths [q] and [q] stand correspondingly for the measurement output and for the measurement error. It can also be presented in symbolic form as (Equation) (Path) . This means that deviation of the observed (measured) motion from that obeying the classical equation of motion is reciprocally proportional to the uncertainty in a path (the latter uncertainty resulting from the measurement error). The consequence of AUP is that improving the measurement precision beyond the threshold of the quantum regime leads to decreasing information resulting from the measurement.  相似文献

The ergodic properties of two stochastic models I and II are investigated. Each model is described by a fieldx(t),t > 0, on the lattice =Z d,d < . For I,x(t) evolves according to the equations wherex s (t) R for eachs eF. Here the {ws(t): s } are independent, one-dimensional Wiener processes, 2 is a bounded interaction between adjacent lattice sites, and the potentials 1 and 2 satisfy appropriate regularity conditions. It is shown that for each model,x(t) is a Markov process on an infinite-dimensional phase spaceX. The probability measures onX that satisfy the Dobrushin-Lanford-Ruelle (DLR) conditions are stationary for this process and have a mixing property. Moreover, for I any stationary, time-reversal-invariant probability measure that has certain regularity properties must satisfy the DLR conditions. This paper is based on a portion of the author's Ph.D. thesis.(2)  相似文献

Refractive-index and optical-absorption spectra of Bi-substituted yttrium iron garnet films, epitaxially grown by liquid-phase epitaxy, have been measured in the spectral regime 0.26 m1.9 m by thin-film interference for 0.52 m and by ellipsometry for0.52 m. The Y3–x–y Bi x Pb y Fe5–z Pt z O12 films contain bismuth in the range Ox 1.42, lead in the range 0.01 y0.08 and platinum in the range 0.005<=z0.03. There is satisfactory coincidence between the results from ellipsometry and thin-film interference in the overlapping wavelength region. The materials investigated are the same as reported earlier from this laboratory in ter mof their magnetic and magnetooptic properties.  相似文献

Conclusions For holography using a convergent subject beam arrangement, the effect associated with increased extrafocal information density is most pronounced when the parameter 2ac/F is small. This relationship between the object parameters (a and c) and the characteristics of the holographic system (, F) is encountered most frequently in problems of microfilming (ac) and radar imaging (ac,a 2/F is small). It is only in the case 2acF99 with an accuracy of not worse than 1%, that we can assert that the sizes of the minimal Fourier holograms will coincide.Gorkii State University. The ultraslow motion of defects in high purity hexagonal H2O ice has been studied by proton dipolarT 1D measurements in the strong collision limit, using the Jeener technique. The obtained NMR correlation times agree rather well with both the Schottky H2O diffusion timest s=r 2/6D and the deuteron correlation times in D2O ice, suggesting that Schottky rather than interstitial diffusion dominates spin-lattice relaxation in both H2O and D2O ice.On leave of absence from University of Ljubljana, Institute J. In a previous paper asymptotic creation and annhilation operatorsa ± # have been constructed by the Kato-Mugibayashi method from the creation and annihilation operatorsa # for spin 1/2 fields with an interaction Hamiltonian density which is an evendegree polynomial in the field with ultra-violet cut-off and its derivatives. For any eigenvector of the total HamiltonianH=H 0+H I partial isometries ± have been defined so thata ± # equal ± a # *± on the ranges ± of ±. Since the existence of a groundstate ofH has been proved, the existence of at least one pair ± follows. The purpose of this paper is to show that for any ± orthogonal to the distribution of spins and momenta of the interacting Schrödinger states exp[–itH]± approaches fort the distributions of spins and momenta of the free state exp[–itH 0] if a wave-amplitude renormalization is carried out in ±. This is achieved by studying the expectation values of the operators in themaximally abelian W*-algebra generated by operators of the form a*a, in terms of whichany information about spins and momenta can be expressed.Supported in part by the National Research Council of Canada.  相似文献

A recent calculation, in the weak-noise limit, of the rate of escape of a particle over a one-dimensional potential barrier is extended by including an inertial term in the Langevin equation. Specifically, we consider a system described by the Langevin equation , where is a Gaussian colored noise with mean zero and correlator (t)(t')=(D/)exp(–|t–t'|/). A pathintegral formulation is augmented by a steepest descent calculation valid in the weak-noise (D0) limit. This yields an escape rateexp(–S/D), where the actionS is the minimum, over paths characterizing escape over the barrier, of a generalized Onsager-Machlup functional, the extremal path being an instanton of the theory. The extremal actionS is calculated analytically for smallm and for general potentials, and numerical results forS are displayed for various ranges ofm and for the typical case of the quartic potentialV(x)=–x 2/2+x 4/4.  相似文献

We consider the problem of finding the quantum mechanical phase associated with the propagation of a particle in a given external gravitational field, and conclude that it ism ds. In weak fieldsh this allows us to calculate the gravitationally induced phase on a freely traveling particle as 1/2 h P dx whereP is the ordinary momentum. This formula has the expected Newtonian limit and is then used to calculate effects in matter wave interferometry such as those due to gravity waves and the dragging of the ether frame by rotating bodies. Light wave interferometry is then considered and is shown to be also described by 1/2 h K dx , whereK is the wave vector of the light, and the integral is along the path of the ray. Matter and light wave interferometry are compared in various cases.A preliminary version of this work was presented at the Grenoble Workshop on Neutron Interferometry, June 1978.  相似文献
